‘Workers Strike Back’: 40 Times People Realized That Modern Capitalism Is Starting To Look Ridiculous
Everyone’s entitled to a good wage, decent working conditions, and the respect of their peers. It sounds so simple. So fair. So obvious. And yet, many workers still find themselves exploited even in developed countries. Overworked for mere cents, marginalized, their voices and needs unheard.
The r/WorkersStrikeBack subreddit is an online community that advocates and fights for workers' rights in a wide variety of ways. They’re dedicated to supporting strikes and unions, addressing various workplace issues, and giving advice to anyone who might be dealing with especially tough problems or anti-worker sentiment at their jobs.
Created in late October of 2021, the subreddit already has nearly 78k members and is still growing. Scroll down for some of r/WorkersStrikeBack top posts that highlight the dark side of capitalism, and to learn more about the community.

Wow. Medical Debt Causes Divorce Of Married Couple Of 52 Years
She can't technically "inherit" his debt if it was just in his name, however everything she does expect to inherit could be sold by the estate to cover those debts, leaving her nothing. Just putting this out because after my dad died every bank was calling my mom to make good on his debt, until she got a lawyer involved. Don't spend a penny on someone else's debt unless you talk to a lawyer first
I second talking to a lawyer, estate laws are more complicated than you'd think and with a divorce in the mix it gets even more complicated. When my dad died (WA state -so I'm guessing state by state/country by country) we had to prove that we'd tried to notify creditors and given them a certain amount of time to send us notice and documentation for debt. We were required to pay them if they could furnish proof he owed the money. But, they also had to go through our lawyer and weren't allowed to harass us.
Load More Replies...I can't upvote it, it feels like I'm supporting it. But at the same time it's absolutely horrible and I'm ashamed that it came to this!
Yup, yay 'Murika. I have several debt collection agencies after me because I had to spend a month in the hospital for a leg amputation. I have no insurance, no job, no personal wealth...but I'm American therefore I have no protection against bad health or emergencies. The American "healthcare system" considers everyone worthless except the top 10% of lucrative earners. It's all for-profit.
A cousin’s baby was born with a hole in its heart. The medical bills caused them to lose their home & file for bankruptcy. Because American medical is all about profit. As an American I’m sickened & furious about this. I’ve no hope it’ll ever change; too many rich & powerful people have their hands in medical.
Billionaires Must Be Abolished
If Elon Musk spent a dollar per second, it would take him 707 centuries to spend all his money. That's not 100 lifetimes; it's more than 700 lifetimes.
We should change the word to "money hoarder". As in "Money hoarder Jeff Bezos..."
People talk about the money the wealthy have and how that's the problem... all while ignoring how much money the government has and how much (approx. 50%) of it is used for things that bring little (if any) direct (or indirect) benefit to citizens. Btw, It's way more than all the "billionaires" put together.
Jealous much? If someone is smart enough to have legally earned and saved that amount they can wipe their butt with it. I want to be filthy rich but I also have great plans for improving the lives of the poor in my community by building more schools. Many kids here cannot get an education. Bill gates is a philanthropist and I guess he is a billionaire??
This Should Not Be Allowed!
Then the problem is politicians, not "capitalism". No amount of money can buy something (a politician) that isn't for sale. The problem with "income caps" for the disabled (or anyone in similar situations) is that they (like income tax deductions for children) are ludicrously low amounts. Designed, not to actually help people, but for no other reason than to keep people poor. They should reflect a "realistic" income level at which someone can live at without assistance. They shouldn't be used to keep someone from earning more income just because they are getting assistance.
Load More Replies...As a disabled person I can confirm this.. I get just over $500/mo to live on plus $140 for food a month.. And if either goes up the other goes down.. If I tried to make more I could lose both.. And if I have more than $2k in my account they stop giving me benefits as well
I think it is, I did read somewhere that if a disabled person's income goes over a very low threshold, they lose any benefits they receive because of their disability
Load More Replies...Technically, there is no income cap on disabled people. But there is a cap on income if you are enrolled in Medicaid. Medicaid is for very poor people who can’t support themselves. The trouble to me comes when a person who makes a certain amount of money but not enough to support himself and pay for the extra insurance and copays and drugs and all that is cut off from any help at all from Medicaid. It’s an all or nothing situation. In Michigan when my sister went into a nursing home, Medicare paid most of her stay for a short time and then stopped. She had about $60k in savings and investments and a $1400 social security income. Plus a house and car. I had to spend her money till she had less than $2k before she qualified for Medicaid. Nearly $7k a month for the nursing home. She could keep her house and car. After less than two years, the remaining $2k was gone because of the property taxes and insurance on the house. Sold the car for some extra money for that.
It's not just Medicaid. I'd get kicked off of Social Security Disability if I made more than a certain threshold. Last time I checked, that cutoff was $600/month *before taxes.* My doctor bills and medications cost much more than that, not to mention housing, food, utilities, transportation, etc.
Load More Replies...Because corporate welfare provides more ROI than disability payments to individuals who are just a societal drain.
Thanks for calling me "just a societal drain." I guess I can't possibly contribute to society in other ways.🙄
Load More Replies...Sorry, but I have to srsly play my 'barred attorney card' again: in no way, shape or form is there any American law of our federal, state of local governments which is an income cap on disabled people. What this person may be thinking of is that if you are a handicapped person who APPLIES FOR GOVT. WELFARE, then, on the question of whether you get that welfare, if you earn over a certain amount you are ineligible. This is sort of in line w/ the 'I hate the rich' mentality; e.g. if a guy is in a wheelchair, but makes $250k annually, as a business consultant, I'm sure many of us would agree that it's a rational policy that this should make said man ineligible for public assistance. If his handicapped condition rendered him unable to work at all, he'd be eligible for help then. On and on the examples could go.
I'm torn. Just a bit. If the cap were on a level that they really don't need outside help, then it would be ok to loose benefits, so others may have them. But if it is a very low cap (which it seams to be) then this is screwed up.
It is above the federal poverty level which is $13590. Which is ridiculous.
Load More Replies...This is being taking way out of context. The income cap is for disability benefits. Clearly the system needs fixed because like all other systems affiliated with the government, it is FUBAR. Essentially the income cap is there to keep people from abusing disability benefits when they could easily afford their expenses but the system currently also oppresses disabled people to not be able to grow past being a state dependant.
Load More Replies...No. The cap varies if it it social security or disability. But it is always below the poverty line. To qualify is almost a 20 hour a week job and for 6 months I was not allowed to bring in any money
Load More Replies...The online community presents itself as an unabashedly “leftist, anti-capitalist subreddit.” They stress that they are not a place for debates. To them, capitalism is exploitative and evil, and they’re not willing to talk about these basic assumptions.
It’s all very black-and-white. So if you’re going to be posting on the sub, keep in mind that the goal is to give workers more negotiating power at work, not to analyze the nuances of economics and politics. There are plenty of other places to do this. This isn’t one of them.

Sad Reality
Then people say that if wages go up, prices go up. Not true, and it has been proven that wages go up then people have money to buy more things and businesses make more profit.
Yes, people say a lot of untrue things in an effort to prop up the same stupid systems that don't work. Like "trickle down economics" which of course has had 50 years to show it doesn't work. Formerly called "horse and sparrow" economics which said that if you give the horse enough oats, they'll s**t some of it out for the sparrows to pick through on the roadway. The rich are the horses and friends, you and I are the sparrows. We don't have to keep doing the same stupid thing. Vote for something better and it AIN'T the people who want to keep this current system.

The Average 14th century peasant put in 1,440 hours. That's 340 more hours off a year... which would equate to over 8 weeks of additional vacation with our current work-day schedule.
"Hmmm, so workers do better with shorter shift? You mean, less than 40 hours a week? Make them work on a Saturday!"
“Worker exploitation is not up for debate. It is evident. If you intend to debate, go elsewhere,” the mods explain. “Capitalism is an inherently exploitative economic system. This is not up for debate.”

Pretty sure my country is about 1 dollar hour and more than 4 dollars a burger (in national currency would be R$5.51 hour, R$22.90 a big mac). If you think living in America sucks, come here to suck more.

I cannot count how many times I have ranted about that same argument. I mean seriously, they have stated "we have more money than we know what to do with", on Sky News and now they're crying poverty?? F**k off!
Dear Dave, What a "radical" proposal! Why that would mean these folks would have to develop some kind of conscience or, even, "empathy" about as likely to happen as either of the United States political parties to stop taking campaign donations from them! Remember, "money makes the world go 'round" (Cabaret) and it certainly makes the politicians drool.
And why are we still paying out billions of dollars in subsidies to oil companies?! I use the word "we" advisedly: our taxes pay for this.
Look to the stock market as the reason why. They can borrow against their stock valuation for exploration, manufacturing, etc. Stock holders get their cut which raises the price of their stock if their returns are large enough for others to want to invest. Employees are not paid enough so their margins can increase. Look to the stock market
Also: Google made three times as much money as Exxon. Also making more: Apple, Berkishire Hathaway, Microsoft, Facebook/Meta, Amazon, AT&T... So why do people always attack oil companies for making "obscene profits?" Because Russian and Saudi oil competitors want to hobble their American competition. (Saudi Aramco makes seven times more money than Exxon.)
Fun fact: Exxon, Chevron, BP and Shell make so much money when oil prices go up because they IMPORT oil. The more they choke off the supply of domestic oil, the more money they make. That's why they funded all those humans-are-destroying-the-planet TV shows that you grew up watching.
In the subreddit’s view, mass striking is what leads to real change. However, it has to be done as efficiently, as widely as possible. They have a handy guide in the subreddit’s sidebar on the right with a whole host of resources for anyone who is thinking of organizing a strike at work.

That's another "Only in Murica"-thing, I suppose? Minimal wage started in January 2015 in Germany and got up from 8,50 €/h to 10,45 €/h since than. Still low, but improving.
Same in the UK. Minimum wage introduced in 1999 at £3.60. This April it will be £9.50.

It's interesting that minimum wage in countries that Americans look down on is much better than their's. But they still think that they're better than everyone else. Not all Americans, but judging by posts and comments, most of them.

And no, 80% capacity doesn't mean giving them a lunch break.
That would work if one employee called off. What about the first summer day or special event when 10 employees call "out sick"

Basically, The Laws Exist To Protect The Capitalist Class
If you are a bank and go bankrupt, government will help you out with a few billion dollars taken from taxpayers' pockets.
Remember, the U.S. Congress, when I last checked, had 50% of its members checking in as millionaires. Surely their own wealth doesn't influence their decisions, right (Hint, hint, wink, wink)???
This is something most Americans did not understand about capitalism... They are not capitalists. They're workers, wage earners and consumers. The capitalists are the super wealthy that fight against them earning a fair wage that competes with the inflation that they literally create and bust unions because it's not in their interest. Capitalist's are literally the "let them eat cake" crowd. We all should know how France eventually dealt with them... 200 that's ago. Now they're totally on board too. The French have become sheep too... Baaaaaaa
And when a company goes bankrupt, shareholders get to make money before pensions and wages are paid.
Re: Student Loans and bankruptcy, This was not the way it was 30+ years ago. You were able to get your loan dismissed in a bankruptcy, you also could default on your loan and nothing negative would happen. Then sometime during the 1990's, there were laws passed that changed everything. They sited professionals like, doctors, lawyers, etc who were making good money but not paying back their loans.
That's a misleading title. It all depends on the type of bankruptcy. Chapter 7( complete loss) or chapter 11 ( finance restructuring. You also CHOOSE to take on debt from school as a personal LOAN. Employment is contractual and highlights the event of going bankrupt.
Ummm no. An employee who is owed wages is listed as an unsecured creditor and will still receive payment. Not immediately, but they still get paid.
For Angel, the future looks bleak. They don’t have much optimism that capitalism as a whole can be replaced easily. In fact, they think that capitalism evolved into corporatism.
"We often see many small businesses collapsing because they are not able to fight with the current trend or to combat with the giant competitors. So they have two options, close the business or sell it," Angel mused.

Money does not mysteriously appear out of thin air. If someone gains more money, someone else must lose it, as it is only a matter of distribution. If the re-distribution of money would go top to bottom, everybody would scream "communism!". But somehow everybody is OK with the richest 1% getting richer while for some full-time workers things like having a place to sleep or even eating at least one meal per day become an unaffordable luxury.
There seems to be an unwarranted degree of admiration for people who are wealthy. I'm sure there's quite a machine in place to encourage the continuation of that admiration.

There will always be a boot locker to take their place. In todays world, there will always be enough people willing to work against the common interest to prevent this from happening. Part of it is because people are desperate and need relief from their short term problems and part is because their are many dumb people that think they are smart. Those in power have figured it out. Keep people on the edge of failure. Give them just enough to have something to lose and create division so that they blame each other. Then sit back and enjoy the show.

Now, unions have been weakened and you see the price in Amazon, Walmart, etc. The government no longer has access to determine whether businesses are operating legally or not. Most of those people in government positions will end up working in the companies they investigated. They operate as paid-off inspectors.
My dad is a retired steel-worker & I saw the consequences of weakening unions through him. Until 20 years ago, unions fought for & won gains in wages, pensions, time off, & health care in every contract negotiation. Over time, these gains got smaller & smaller to the point where the union doesn't fight for how much workers gain but to minimize/mitigate annual losses. And yet we wonder why people voted for Trump! So many people were more disenfranchised each passing year & therefore so desperate for a change that they'd do ANYTHING that might slow their free fall into poverty. Personally speaking, I DESPISE Trump & everything he pretends to stand for. However, I can kind of see why some people were willing to take a risk w/him business-wise, regardless of how obscenely greedy, racist, misogynous, homophobic, & xenophobic he is — they willfully ignored everything else in hopes of retaining their jobs & homes.
Load More Replies...Because, in general, America’s working class doesn’t have the luxury of engaging in ideological pursuits. This comes up quite often in modern life with the various cries of "BOYCOTT!". "We have many companies that have been bought by enormous giants that I do not want to mention and they won't stop there, they are trying to get their hands on any business category. The founder of ‘Humans of Capitalism’ told Bored Panda how they envision the future. However, that wouldn’t necessarily make things perfect, as someone would still control the system of distribution.
It’s Never In More Pay
I've learned this lesson many times, and yet I feel like trash when I give less than 100%. It probably has to do with being in healthcare and how my efforts (or lack thereof) directly impacts patients.
What do you do if you run a business where you have three employees and there’s one particular unpopular task that has to be done ever so often and all three of your employees are qualified to do the task. You arrange it so each of the three employees takes turns doing that task. Two employees do a good job but one does not do it right because he/she doesn’t like doing it. None of your employees like doing it but two of them still do it well. Far too many managers would solve the problem by making the good employees who do a good job do it and let the bad employee off. Good managers make the bad employee do that task every time till they do it like they’re supposed to then go back to a rotation.
I've heard a saying many times, "if you want something done quick, ask the busiest person!" and I'm dying inside every time.

Building Class Conscience Through Memes
Oil company execs are going to be buying the Russian oligarchs seized yachts.
American companies put in ads for new positions which are batshit crazy, requiring 20+ years experience in software that was first created 2 years ago, doctor's degrees and so forth for "entry level" positions -- then of course when they "cant' find qualified applicants" they bring in someone from overseas who meets none of the requirements either. And of course our government knows these companies are scamming everyone and all they care about is how much of a bribe they're getting for allowing loopholes for companies to rob everyone.
They can see a dark future where, as technology progresses, more and more workers will lose their jobs.
"I believe that 50 years from now machines will provide food, clothing, healthcare services, and much more, by themselves, with little to no employees monitoring them. America Needs A Socialist Revolution
God forbid you say the “S” word. Most Mercian’s think it’s Communism. They have no idea what socialism really is.
Wrong. Restaurants have to price in the cost of all labor and overhead, in addition to the food and drink cost. All told the conventional wisdom of the restaurant biz is that if you don't charge at least 3x your cost of food or drink sold you'll actually be losing money on those sales overall.
Socialism was welcome in America until after the Civil Rights Movement. Then "those people" would abuse the system & never work.
I seriously suspect that almost no one in America understands what either socialism or communism really is about. We have only biased views of some countries' attempts that went wrong. Just like America often appears to be an attempt at democracy gone wrong. Good ideas; bad implementation.
The Owner Class Does None Of The Work And Owns All Of The Wealth, The Working Class Does All Of The Actual Work And Gets Almost None Of The Wealth
I'm all for socialism... as you can see from previous posts. But this specific argument is flawed. The problem is, a huge amount of money needs to go into finding and mining the gold, and if it turns out that the gold mine is a failure... the miners still got paid for their work, but the mine owner just wasted a whole bunch of money. The individual miners didn't take any risk. -- So the question is, if you don't like this model, then who should take on the risk? Co-ops are a possible solution, where the miners pool their resources together and invest in the mine, and if it fails, they all share the loss. Another option is socialism, where the government owns the mine and takes on the risk, so ultimately the tax-payer will take the hit if it is a failure. -- There are options, but someone will have to suffer if the mine fails.

Yes. My parents' generation worked decades for the same organization and retired with a defined benefit pension. By the time I was starting out in the mid 90s, pensions were a thing of the past and corporations were laying off masses of people, even folks who had been there for decades. Oh, I mean "downsizing". Oh, I mean "rightsizing". It didn't matter what kind of marketing speak they tried to shop to us. Loyalty to the employee was dead. That's the work world I started in and I'm in my 50s now. The "work 40 years for the same company and get sent off with a gold watch and a nice pension" work culture died decades ago before the young workers of today were even born.

Years ago (early 1900s) workers NEEDED unions because companies were taking advantage of them, 6 -7 day weeks, 10-16 hour days, conditions were horrid ,unsafe, and if you got injured on the job? Bye bye! Look up the slaughter houses in Chicago. But eventually, many union bosses became too powerful, only looking out for themselves. They wanted concessions that were putting companies out of business, even insisting small businesses had to join ,which they couldn't afford. Not all unions were like this, but many big ones were. So a lot of people stopped joining because of the fees charged (as much as $200-$500 a month, a lot in the 80s). That's why they tried to get rid of them. Now, almost 50 years later, we have a whole new set of problems with companies & unions are making a comeback. Unions can be an amazing asset for workers; fair pay, good benefits, legal representation, etc. But, just like govt, we can't let them control us

As I have aged (late 50's now) I have become LESS conservative. I don't complain about taxes, even now that I will be paying a huge capital gains tax this year. Why? Because I prefer comprehensive health care, reasonably honest police and courts, better care for those who are disadvantaged by circumstances beyond their control, and so much more. I don't NEED a new Mercedes every two years.
When I was a kid, my parents didn't have much money, and supported "liberal" causes like the civil rights movement, Planned Parenthood, improved labor laws, and anti war demonstrations. It's been absolutely heartbreaking to see this transformation, and it has damaged my relationship with both of them.

However, what the middle american does not understand is that (a) racism is a side-effect of capitalism, and that their racist rants are perpetrating capitalist differences so as to create a labour class made of black people who can be exploited (b) capitalism is in itself what is keeping them (and black people) poor, and that (c) wealth is never achieved by hard work it is achieved by social networks.

Which (and this is painful for me to type) just shows how pointless most desk jobs are. Fast food workers provide a service, delivering food directly to the people who want it. I... crunch numbers on a spreadsheet. Now, my role does have a touch more responsibility (if a McDonald's cashier screws up, a customer gets 7 nuggets instead of 8, or even the other way around. If I screw up, several cashiers may not actually get paid (for example, I'm not actually McDonald's payroll). But is my job really creating that much of a difference in society that I'm worth as much as twice theirs? (Sorry, bit rambling, can't fit a diatribe into the character limit)
I have done the maths, though. Raise the minimum wage to $15 and on the current exchange rate, the US McDonalds worker would be earning more than me - a part qualified management accountant, based outside Greater London. Because minimum wages aren't global, neither is the cost of living. But the internet is, so I'm not sure I've not dismantled my own argument.

This is agism and it hides the fact that college tuitions skyrocketed in a very short time. When my grandfather came home after WWII, he went to a state college and tuition was free. That was less than 80 years ago.
I went to a state university in the early 90s, only 30 years ago. My tuition tripled during my time there. Granted, it went from dirt cheap to still kind of affordable. My state used to invest heavily in its state colleges and university and that's the point they decided to be more like a business and less like a public good. Tuition has since quadrupled, along with rent in the city where I went to school. You know what hasn't quadrupled? Wages. The kinds of retail jobs I worked that let me graduate without student loans pay about 50% more than they did back then. Yeah. I worked through university and it was really freaking hard. I even had a little help from my folks where they could. I ate beans and rice. I never had a weekend. It took 5 years instead of 4. I was physically at my breaking point by the end of it. And now it's much, much harder. I can't expect anyone to do that under today's conditions.
Load More Replies...I calculated it out for my home state. In state resident tuition, with room and board and mandatory fees, at the University of New Hampshire is $34,978.00 per year. Minimum wage in NH is the Federal Minimum wage of $7.25. Working a minimum wage job you would have to work 95 hours a week 52 weeks a year, just to earn your tuition. That doesn't even take into account the taxes taken out of your check or other expenses like transportation to your job or clothing to wear or health insurance. Not all jobs pay minimum wage you say. "A smart , responsible, hard working high school graduate could probably find a job paying $15 an hour. " Maybe, So let's assume $15 an hour, 50 weeks a year to account for holidays, sick days ect, and an extra $5000 to cover basic expenses beyond tuition. This hypothetical student now has to work 53 hours a week in addition to attending class and keeping up with all their course work.
Here are some real-world calculations to back this up. Annual cost-to-attend at my alma mater is $22,271 for 15 credit-hours in one fall and one spring semester, including dormitory and basic meal plan (books, student health insurance and personal expenses not included). To pay for this basic state university experience you would need to work a full 40-hour week getting paid 13.75/hr and putting 100% of that after-tax income toward your education to not go into debt for school.
If you add $1300/semester for the mandatory insurance and books the hourly rate you would need to be paid for a 40-hour week goes up to: $15.40/hour. Illinois minimum wage is $9.25/hr.

Hell, even if 10% was passed on as new wages for employees....quick google search, thats 383000 employees. lets round that down to 38000 to account for the top brass that get fair raises anyway... lets just say everyone gets an equal share of that, that means the annual income for the employee would increase by $53,421/year. I'm not sure what they pay hourly, but lets assume minimum wage. 40hr work week, I'll be generous and assume 2 weeks off a year, that would put them at 67.921/year or 33.96/hr. Even just evenly distributing 1% of that would still average out to about 2.61/hr more
Another way to look at it is that ~28% increase over last year means about 4.5B more, so following the same idea as above would mean an hourly increase of about $5.90, or close to doubling the federal minimum wage

I don't think that the original author is actually trying to claim there's no inflation, but rather that using inflation as an excuse for increased prices and such while ignoring the record profits posted by major companies at the expense of people like myself who, even with a decent, salaried position are still living cheque to cheque and debating which bill to pay and which to let go late (this month I paid my car insurance, last month it was electric). In the 90s my friends and I were all babysitting at 14. How have we gone from considering teenage babysitters standard practice of responsible parents to criminal negligence in a single generation.
There are plenty of states in the US that would allow a 14 year old to be married and some that would essentially force her to have a baby if she became pregnant, but she can't babysit her little brother.

He's going to personally till, plant, water, chase off pests, fertilize, harvest, transport, and sell 4million tomatoes. Himself. That's a good business plan. /s
No, instead he's going to hire plenty of workers workers which he'll pay less than the money they need to buy a tomato meal.

Load More Replies...They're not Tribbles! Agricultural production requires significant time and capital expense, and also presents enormous risk to the farmer. A crash in market prices or a failed crop can be the end of them.
Sigh... As a farmer he is waaaaaay the heck off on his business model. Doing it that way would bankrupt you VERY quickly.

It's like they understand the concept, but just can't make the connection as to why!! If you keep your salary competitive, your employees are more likely to stay. Duh.
Which completely misses the cogent point: if you didn't need to pay for living expenses, why the hell would you work for someone else? Of course it's about money. Duh.
I'd rather make $10 an hour at a job I love than $30 an hour at a job I hate but that's just me.
That question has two answers depending on whether or not you have money.

It sounds like BP is trying to paint this as an evil thing? Nestle is a substantial food producer/distributor, wouldn't continuing to produce/distribute food in the non-occupied parts of Ukraine be a good thing?
Well That’s Terrifying
I was reading not too long ago that one of their challenges in staffing their warehouses is that they've already run through so many employees that the pool of available employees who haven't already worked for them is becoming quite small. So many people have worked at their fulfillment centers and gotten burnt out or been fired for not being able to meet their ridiculous quotas. Those positions have high turnover. They tend to be located outside major population centers in small to mid sized towns, so there's not a huge influx of new people into the area and they're exhausting the people who live there.
This is so true. My sister out in Utah was hired and quit 3 times in the past year at their Salt Lake City fulfillment center. The burn out is real.

Capitalism is a terrible system. It just happens to be better than all the other terrible systems we've tried. I'll stick with the least worst economic system until we get something that is proven to work better.
Our financial system is f****d up. Like, how are we supposed purchase necessities if we make $2 an hour with 90% of it going to taxes and bills? And they wonder why the homeless population is getting bigger. Minimum wage should be raised to an actual wage we can LIVE off of. People still live with their parents because the system isn't giving them enough to live. I say tax the s**t out of the billionaires. They've got enough money just laying around. And inflation isn't making things any better. Workers wages stay the same while the price of goods go up making it even more impossible to live. Even if you get like $25000 or more a year, most of it is going to fixed expenses like bills and taxes so you have $11 to go buy this week's groceries. The middle class is shrinking because we're all losing money while billionaires are getting richer. This concludes my TED Talk. (yes I know a lot of this is an exaggeration but it helps me express how f****d up this is)
Living in a country that US tourists find expensive and got high taxes I don't get these posts. For our taxes we for example just pay between 11-32 USD depending on who, how, where and when. We never pay more than 127 USD during a 12 month period and the daycost for any hospital recovery is 11,60 USD. But I can add that medical prices were raised a lot after the ISIS war when we received many refugees. How ever most medicine have humane prices and also have a maximum cost per year: 252 USD counted from the first purchase. For daycare the maximum tax is 111 USD/month/child over 3 y. Elementary school is payed with the taxes and includes food and books. Most roads are payed for and some more things. But of course do we have rich people who only gets richer and low-wages. as for a cleaner it's approximately 2297 USD/month and unions for all categories of employments. We have brakes and free water! Some workplaces even have free coffee/tea/hot chocolate and/or soda and access to food for a reduced costs for ordinary workers. So reading these posts I get terrified and will never visit US.
Can people in America work in a Mcdonald's without high school? Just curious... Here vast majority of jobs require high school meanwhile there are people in college who can't write properly.
The majority of students at the University of Wyoming can barely write their names. Hyperbole aside, most of the students I encounter write at a 9th-grade level.
