A True Madlass
Madlass Researcher
She's one of the heroes Ronaldo is getting paid as. This is so f*cking wrong.
Load More Replies...It's a truly sad state of affairs when athletes are paid more money per season than most people see in a lifetime. The people saving and changing lives for the greater good should be getting that kind of money, not the footballers, etc.
The sad truth is that the powerful know good people don't have to be paid a lot to do good, because they will do it anyway.
Load More Replies...Popularity pays, that's how modern society has created it. The frivolous, unnecessary luxuries in life are generally the most sought after - can't really blame the people who take advantage of this after realising they have a natural talent that the masses are eager to pay for the privilege of watching - I personally don't understand the prestige that actors, singers, althletes get like they're some kind of higher being than the rest of us minions. I appreciate talent, but I'm not about to worship these people or fall over myself if I see one of them in the street.
Yes, this! And I don't clamour to waste my hard earned money on their self-branded merchandise. As if just putting their name on crap somehow makes it better? (I see you, Kardashians 👁️👁️)
Load More Replies...The moment I saw this post, I knew BoredPanda has deteriorated in recent times. This woman’s name is Isabel Garcia Tejerina and she never made this claim. This has already been verified as fake by several fact checking sites back then in 2020. But it’s sad to see BoredPanda publish this fake post as a symbol of women awesomeness. Since when has Boredpanda become another meme sharing platform??
Does that really matter? It's still true no matter who said it.
Load More Replies...Seriously doubt he could. He looked like a fool on Jeopardy.
Load More Replies...Not wrong at all. But big pharma is still making millions. Ever asked them to share their profits with researchers.
They just put money into their own company's research, but don't freely share results. Profits are purely for their own shareholders and investors pockets.
Load More Replies...mRNA research started in the late 1980s. Scientists have been begging for money in order to make vaccines. Even with the first SARS they had the vaccine almost ready but because it fades on its own the funding for it stopped.
Whilst the sentiment is true, the event isn't: fact checker says this never happened: https://factuel.afp.com/coronavirus-cette-chercheuse-espagnole-denonce-les-bas-salaires-de-sa-profession-aucune-trace-delle
Of course, the idea is still right. Sometimes fiction makes a better point that reality.
Load More Replies...I agree w the message. The image is fake though. She is Isabel García Tejerina, a politician who hold the agriculture ministry in Spain a while ago. The picture was taken before COVID.
The athletes are paid by someone, and don't really have much say how much they earn other than improving on their performance and popularity. I'm not sure how money is syphoned in the sport federations and clubs, but that would be a better area to look at. I'm taking a wild guess that athletes wouldn't be paid much if it weren't for the fans paying to see games, and all those sweet, major brand sponsorships. Perhaps brand companies could start sponsoring researchers. Or would that run a risk of conflict of interest and more conspiracies being generated? I don't think there's an easy answer to this.
She's right! I'd like to also add that there is no reason we all can't thrive. It's insane how we value money over human beings. Saying that this person or that person is worth more or more deserving of their needs being met. As if the football player is more worthy of having food, water, housing, education, and healthcare. Plus every material thing they could want. Like the cashier or scientist or doctor, or janitor doesn't deserve those things or have those needs. We all do! So just remember when you deny people money you are denying them the very thing they need to exist. We all live on this planet and can thrive. No one is more deserving of being treated humanly and decently. To hear some of y'all tell it, a teenager just starting out doesn't have the need or right to eat and take care of themselves. How can you possibly not see that we all have a right to those basic things that we literally have to have in order to live? There's plenty of what we all need to carry on. So the only reason I can think of to deny anyone these things is because you want folks to suffer and go without. And that is just wrong and not how it's supposed to be.
Sad state of affairs, we would be so progressive if it were in reverse, not undermining sportive talent but we need to invest in research for the survival of our susceptible race
Totally agree. It's criminal what professional sports people are paid, when so many health organizations are struggling because of lack of funds.
This is exactly why it baffles me that people call footballers heroes. Yes, you can admire them or whatever but hero?! For kicking a ball into a net? I don’t think so.
Yes lady. 1800 shameful. And some Spaniards are scrambling scrambling that salary.
There's always plenty of money to pay celebrities, but paying scientists properly and support research? That's impossible, we don't have money for that!
Cool, now let’s talk about teachers and first responders vs the money American football set make?
Things will have to get much, much worse before any of the people with all the money decide that it's time to invest in our general welfare.
Another one not named. I get the feeling no one is going to be acknowledged here
We sabotage our own covid restrictions with football (or soccer if you cant catch it), because people could get mad and then we wonder why our numbers now skyrocket.
She cant do life saving work due to budget, while people who run around for entertainment are made millions. She has every right to be upset.
Load More Replies...She’s wrong on this. It’s pretty easy to argue that what athletes and celebrities do is unimportant work, but the point is is that sports/TV/movies are A BUSINESS. The industries they work in generate tens of billions in revenue. They’re not athletes, they’re employees, and if they generate money for their employees, they’re entitled to their share of revenue. It’s literally what every other employed person does.
I don't think she's arguing about market forces for entertainment, I think it's the argument about how little governments prioritise research and things that are good for society until it's too late. Governments are prioritising footballers because corporate sponsorship and lobbying go hand in hand.

“I think four things are essential for a full life: being true to yourself, being kind to yourself and others, having fun, and working hard to achieve your dreams,” she shared.

“Also, stop caring so much what other people think (you learn this as you get older!). We know we’re on track if we’re happy. Emotional pain signals that we need to change something in our lives,” Ariane explained to us how we can gauge if we’re on the right path in life or if we should consider changing some things.
Bored Panda wanted to get Ariane’s opinion on why some women are still pressured to get married as soon as possible, even in the West, in the 21st century. “Maybe not as soon as possible, but certainly at some point,” she said.
“I felt the pressure so badly, I went and married the wrong guy and regretted it,” Ariane opened up to us.

She also offered a good comeback for when a woman gets asked why she’s not married yet. “I guess the comeback depends on the person asking, but try sighing and joking, ‘I guess I’m just not over your dad!’”
According to comedy writer Ariane, there are still many challenges that women face in this day and age, even in the West. She told us that “there’s still a lot of misogyny” and the sexual assault conviction rate is “shocking.”
“In the UK, only 7% of cases get to court and convictions are only 1.7% when it’s estimated that 95% of perpetrators are guilty. There’s definitely still a lot of work to do,” she said.

Writer and human rights advocate Elizabeth Arif-Fear previously explained to Bored Panda that women still face barriers to entry, sexist attitudes, and harassment because of their gender. This can occur in the workplace, as well as at home. For instance, there’s still the expectation that women ‘should’ be the ones to do the lion’s share of the housework, even if they work full-time jobs.

Definitely Should Be Here!
“If both partners are working full-time then they should be sharing the housework equally. Sadly, research shows that women still do more housework than men even when working. On a practical level, if a couple is committed to an equal level of partnership, drawing up a chore timetable can be useful, as can designating roles by working out who does what based on their likes and strengths,” Elizabeth said.

Unfortunately, I suspect the cameraperson holds more power than the young woman, amazing as she is. Without it being documented, I doubt very much that they would have "lined up" to arrest her, she wouldn't have even had time to open that booklet. Recording for posterity (aka evidence) is what made them hesitate.
“These attitudes go beyond chores. They are a symptom of sexism. In such a relationship, both partners are not equal. No woman should be expected to work two full-time jobs—one paid and one at home—while her able-bodied husband sits back and does nothing at home,” the expert said.

And of course we don't know anything about her unlike Paul Revere. What a load of crap. Once again, a woman did twice the job a man did and a man got the credit.
“In today’s world, looking after the home and/or children is a full-time job in itself and such work needs to be shared. Families often have to rely on two incomes and women have the right to pursue professional goals—something which their spouse should encourage as part of an equal partnership,” she told us.

“Being financially dependent on a man is not a healthy or safe option. Spouses must be equal in opportunities and shared duties. As working patterns have shifted with the economy in the past decades, outdated sexist attitudes also need to shift. A women’s role is where she wants to be—just like a man’s.”

According to Elizabeth, it’s not a woman’s job to pick up or look after her male relatives. “If she chooses to stay at home as the family is financially able to manage on one wage, that must be the couple’s joint decision. Even then, there must be mutual respect, sharing of responsibility, and a fair equitable division of chores.”
