Scarily enough, sometimes it does work. Usually the "trapped" partner of the narcissist has already been removed from family, friends, and loved ones, and has nowhere to turn. My ar.seole ex told me his sister was dying of cancer. He didn't drive so all times of night could be 1am 2am etc I would be called upon to drive him an hour to drop him off to see his dying sister. He would come home crying and I would console him, he would would show me things his sister was going to bequeath to his sons. He wanted me to meet his sister but she was always unwell. He told me she had a few weeks and we went shopping for a black suit for him and a black dress for me. One night his phone went off, he was taking a bath and forgot it was on charge. Saw all the messages and texts from some woman, explicit ones etc. I didn't confront him then. I called his ex wife, we got on well. I told her about about his sister and she confirmed that his sister wasn't dying of cancer she was perfectly healthy. His sister didn't even live in that town. So for 3 months I was loosing sleep so that cockwomble could go f.uck his Poundland Barbie. Good times lol

I went through my husband cheating on me when I was in my twenties and I'm now dumbfounded by the lies I talked myself into believing because I didn't want to accept the truth. I finally saw the light and left him and I'm now with a loyal, honest man who helped me to be able to trust again.

I really don't understand men. If you know for a fact that a woman won't be on board with your s**t, there will be someone who does, so let that woman alone. You're wasting someone's time and making them do things against their principles without them knowing (yeah, l was made the side piece without me knowing. This story doesn't fit exactly but I'd like to share... This happened before cellphones were a thing: Boyfriend wanted to prove how much he loved me so he asked me to watch him burn his little black book. He couldn't think of a lie fast enough when, a few days later, I discovered he made a duplicate
Between these and the post about "nice guys", if anything happens to my husband (dies or we split up), I think I'll just be single forever.
The world is full of terrible people. My question to the folks who are blaming the women in these scenarios, is how can you tell who is going to turn out to be a genuine nice guy and who is not? Usually the first clue is discovering a lie... hence these accounts. These guys don't have forehead tattoos or ear tags or smell different... the same is true for predators who spike your drink or random coworkers who stalk women or any one of a host of disreputable jerks. If you really believe that these ladies are just "bad" at choosing men, then help out a bit. Don't be like this. Don't stay silent in support of this. Don't get mad at a woman who wants to take it slow or be cautious. Don't whine about women who try to be diligent and keep guys at arm's length but this pisses you off, 'cuz "not all men". Problem is, good guys and bad guys can look and behave very, very similarly. Until they don't.
Let me give these ladies some advice. If you find yourself constantly attracted to men like this you need to figure why you're falling for the smoke and mirrors of manipulative people. It's likely you fall for others like strippers, aggressive sale reps, populist politicians ....etc. My argument is that there's NO WAY these were a one time scenario. It's likely this toxic behavior was brought to your attention and was dismissed.
