We live in a fast world where most people are always in a rush and are looking for ways to reach their destination as quickly as possible. For this reason, a lot of us like to use taxi services for fast and comfortable transportation.

Driving a car requires a lot of attention, patience and carefulness, especially when the driver has some passengers with them. Having this in mind, Twitter user @sarahschauer started a thread by sharing her experience of taking a cab. The woman revealed that once when she was using the service, she was in a hurry and asked the driver to go as quickly as he could, to which he replied “I am from Russia.” The woman continued her story by saying that at that time she was quite sure that they were “about to break the sound barrier.”

So here are some more of the funny and wild taxi ride stories that people chose to share on the internet.

It seems that people actually enjoy these “fast and furious” rides. This tweet encouraged people to share their wild ride experiences. What was interesting to notice is that a lot of these stories happened somewhere in Eastern Europe and the most prominent cases of fast driving were in Russia or by drivers who are from there.

This thread also sparked a debate on reckless driving and the possibility of these drivers costing someone their life. Some of the Twitter users admitted that they were afraid of such drivers, showing that they do not trust them completely.

As he's from Naples and so is the famous pizza, you would expect him to know the colours red and green.

The Czech Republic is NOT Eastern Europe, there's still a lot of land towards the east and it's still Europe

That is the f*ing truth. We took a taxi at 2am in Budapest. I think the guy had been smoking with the windows up all night long, drove at breakneck speed through all assortment of traffic signals, while playing death metal at full volume. I have never been so afraid for my life. All 4 of us white knuckled it the whole way home.

It's a free advice: Never start crossing the pedestrian crossing in Praha if you are not ready to sprint!

Prague isn't eastern Europe 🙃 it's central Europe and they're not Slavs.

As a Czech I have to correct you since what you're claiming is not entirely correct. The Czech Republic is not in eastern Europe, that's true. Czechs are of Slavic descent however. We're from the western side so there's a lot of mental differences between us and our eastern or Southern counterparts. I'd say that we're the closest to what anyone from the US would consider not Slavic since we're not standing out in any crazy ways.

As someone who lives in the Czech Republic, this is kind of ironic as it is funny because if you drive down the D1 then you'll piss your pants literally

As many mentioned before, the Czech Republic is in the Central Europe, not eastern. Not just geographically but even historically we are much closer to German speaking countries. On the other hand most of the Uber drivers in Prague are from Eastern Europe, mostly post ussr countries.

As many already said, the Czech Republic is in the Central Europe. But too many Uber drivers here are from the Eastern Europe. Mostly from post ussr countries.

Can confirm! Prague, 2003, got into a Taxi very drunk (I either hired a prostitute or got robbed - I still had my purse, but no money in it), a then not-that-old Mercedes Taxi (W 124, Diesel, don't know exact engine) was our way to the hotel ... he accelerated and didn't stop doing so, ran over like 20 red lights and when I finally could get a lil glimpse on the speedo, it declared our current speed was 150 km/h. On a huge road, ok, but still - in a major city, in pre-EU Czechia (no idea about the police there back then ... were they corrupt? Did we have enough money to bribe them out of beating us to near-death?), but we made it to the hotel without further inconvenience. I'm pretty sure it was a lame version (Diesel in that era weren't fast - the fastest W124 Diesel can run 202 km/h, looked it up ... but this wasn't a 300 D Turbo, likely a 200 D or so. They can run 160 ... and I think that was what he aimed for.

To see traffic madness, one should visit Southeast Asia. The rules are mere suggestions.

Honestly he could be Greek too! Absolutely no difference! And let me guess! Never use signals when turning either!

According to the European Commission, the road safety statistics for the year 2020 show that the number of fatalities has slightly decreased in the European Union but still hasn’t reached the set goal. It is also known that the country where the most car accidents occur in Europe is Romania, with 96 people killed for one million inhabitants, according to the 2019 statistics.

Recent information on road safety suggests that the EU has the safest roads and managed to decrease the percentage of road deaths by 36% in the span of 10 years (2010-2020). Of course, the pandemic also had an impact on the statistics. Even though the traffic slowed down because of the strict measures, the report suggests that those who did risk leaving their home had an “impact on the number of road fatalities.”

Worst experience was in Kairo. We came across a like 6-line street. I thought "this will take forever to get through " bc there were no traffic lights for the others to stop and no way they let us through. So the cab driver kept honking while driving straight across the street. We were horrified and I think my hair turned grey that very moment.
