If The World Seems Like A Horrible Place Now, These 50 Positive Posts Might Be Just What You Need
Spend enough time on this planet, and life can turn even the softest soul into a hard-shelled skeptic. It’s not always fair, and sometimes it feels easier to expect the worst.
But thankfully, that’s not the whole story. There are still plenty of uplifting moments out there—small glimpses of kindness, warmth, and joy that remind us things aren’t all bad. One place that consistently delivers them is @igwholesome on Instagram. It’s a comforting corner of the internet filled with goodness.
We’ve gathered some of their most heartwarming posts. They’re the kind that might just soften even the toughest of hearts.

We had some Ecuadorians come to our church once asking for help. They'd had some kind of screw-up with their passports (this was like 30 years ago, long before the current immigration issues) and didn't have enough money to keep staying in their hotel while it got sorted. My parents let them stay with us. My dad isn't particularly handy, so the husband did some odd jobs around the house like fixing a couple of doors that didn't close properly and some places in the carpet that needed fixing. The wife taught us kids a bit of Spanish and my mom a few traditional Ecuadorian meals. I still think about them from time to time.
My Ukrainian neighbours just did the same thing, except it was my gate they mended so I can now close it
Every country has a mix of people and most people are a mix of attributes. How about not making sweeping judgements and bringing the whole tone down?

Oh dear, not you too? It can be soul destroying. Good on you for doing the opposite.

Let’s face it: most of our feeds are flooded with stories that can make anyone feel defeated. War, disasters, political chaos, rising crime rates… not exactly the feel-good content anyone’s craving.
Not according to the orange stain currently stinkin' up the White House

They certainly don’t like smart people who actually know what they’re doing, that’s for sure.

Happened to us as well. Our cat got lost when he was out and it started snowing. He couldn't find his way home. After two weeks me and my mom went to a shelter to find a replacement cat. We chose the most sorry case there was; a cat that looked like two half cats stitched together. The front half looked tiny and of normal proportion but half the teeth missing, the back half was huge like yo momma!! This cat was abused and not very trusting, but it took some time to earn that. A week later we heard our own cat was found about two kilometres away. The frost caused her to lose her ears and she was not the same cat anymore mentally. Now with two cats in the house that hated each other.... fun times...
My son’s friend had her birthday party at the animal shelter. (They’re 5) she asked everyone to bring a donation for the shelter in lieu of a gift. Long story short * we adopted a 10 year old, former member of a feral colony male who is the biggest snuggle bug
Dad didn't ask for something full-out gay; he asked for something kinda gay, so this seems spot on, gayness level-wise.

Naturally, when all we consume is doom and gloom, it starts to affect how we see the world. It’s quite a lot to do with the fact that seeing bad news can make us feel helpless, like these problems are just too big to solve, explains Jodie Jackson, author of You Are What You Read.

Literally had this conversation with my partner this afternoon. She thanked me for allowing her to hold space in her heart for the people who she loved before. I asked "why wouldn't I? They helped make you the person you are today."
I easily open heavy doors with the move I learned from a person I very much dislike as a person. I was able to do a job I absolutely love through a person I absolutely don't respect as a leader (though they're very good at their job as a specialist, so I also learned quite a few professional tips from them). There are things about myself that I was able to accept and work with only because people who don't like me pointed those things out to me. I am an amalgamation of every single person I've ever encountered.
Absolutely. Some of the best lessons I use in life are things I gleaned from people who were otherwise not great people. You don't have to be a good person to have good ideas 🤷🏽♀️

this is beautiful. we should all thrive to be a mosaic of different experiences inspired by different cultures, food, music, lifestyles, etc.
Racism and hate are taught. Kids are naturally accepting of everyone. This is adorable.
While I agree with you that racism and hate are often taught, kids are not naturally accepting of everyone. Tolerance, empathy and love must also be taught.

Load More Replies...I've looked up hijab vs niqab vs burka before, but it's been a while and they aren't words I need often, so I had forgotten. I am older and more culturally-aware now and D**N those garments are very different. (Hijab covering the hair only and NOT the body. Sometimes paired with a jilbab or abaya body garments. Niqab covers the face and body but critically not the eyes. And burka having a mesh eye covering as well which hinders vision.) I'm really going to try hard to keep these straight in my head going forward. (PS additions or corrections welcome, this was just a few minutes of online searches, always up for learning from someone who actually knows the subject!)
A friend of mine had a similar experience in an elevator. Her 5 year old son loud-whispered and asked if the women in burqas were ninjas. (It became a teaching moment and she explained about cultural differences.)
Muslim women here in Jozi who wear niqabs are always shocked when I talk to them. Most people apparently treat them like they are invisible.
That’s awful they are far from invisible , they are human just like us , and all bleed red just like the rest of us , shame to hide their stunning hair mind u but I’ll always smile n say hi to , n I don’t like people lol real introvert but kindness costs nothing does it x
Load More Replies...Any form of indoctrination is evil, poor woman who has to hide in public
It’s not indoctrination nor is it hiding in public, of course there are places where Muslim women are forced to do this as in other places where people are forced to wear certain things as well, if a Muslim woman chooses this why don’t you accept it
Load More Replies...Awwwwww ❤️❤️now that’s beautiful, I’m not a fan of those for one reason only ! But no one’s saying we should pretend the world is made entirely of puppies, rainbows, and glitter. (Okay, maybe a little glitter wouldn’t hurt.) Still, there’s a middle ground.
We don’t have to shut everything out, we just need to add a bit more balance.
“While I don’t recommend burying our heads in the sand and ignoring what is going on around us, we should certainly limit our consumption of bad news and expose ourselves to uplifting content,” Dr. Tal Ben-Shahar, author of Happier, co-founder of the Happiness Studies Academy, and former psychology professor at Harvard, told The Washington Post.
The trash truck guys were always so awesome with my kid when he was a toddler. He'd wait for them every week and they always waved and honked the horn for him. Local heroes for lots of little kids everywhere!
They were amazing during lockdown. They knew all the houses with kids and would always wave to them.
Load More Replies...I drive a bus, and I try to do this. There's a lot of daycares around here, and when the padawans are out in their cart or on their "chain gangs" walking, I'll blast the airhorn and wave. Reward: One of the teachers saying "There's our friend!" and having them all wave back.
When my dog was a puppy, the garbage truck guys took photos of him, just because he was cute!
My very first "dream job" was a garbage man. (late 1970's) the garbage men would get to hang on a handle on the back of the truck while it drove around neighborhoods bashing metal trashcans on the back of the truck....AND THEY GOT TO HANG ON THE HANDLE WHILE THEY DROVE AROUND! 8 year old me would have taken that job over anything on the planet.
I remember this from my street years ago, all the little kids on the street would run along the sidewalk cheering when the garbage truck came by.
My daughter and I would chase the trash truck around she loved it! “twash twuck “
My cats end up on Zoom whether I want them to or not. For some reason they just HAVE to jump on my desk while I'm in meetings. Another coworker's cat does the same. Keeps things interesting!
Mine does that too! If I'm on the sofa reading he's just laying there sleeping, but when I'm at my desk he NEEDS to get in on it
Load More Replies...Even if not, certainly not a cat-astrophe. Every class needs a paws once in a while.
Load More Replies...The one positive thing about covid was getting to meet each other's pets.
My birds ended up on several meetings over COVID (whether I wanted them to or not 😆). I enjoyed it because I'd get questions from people that were normally not fans of/afraid of birds, so there was that distance, but at the same time they got to see the cuddly, sweet side of them.
That happens in meetings all the time. Someone's dog walks in the room and suddenly no on cares about that report being over due anymore.
And science backs it up.
A study from the University of California, Berkeley found that people who read positive news reported a boost in their overall well-being compared to those who consumed negative stories.
Makes sense, right? The researchers suggest that good news helps counteract the emotional effects of stress and anxiety. Like a little vitamin for your brain, cheerfully chewable.
I always thought if you have to use something that helps you, it should be made yours. doesn't matter if it's a wheelchair, glasses or a cane. own that s**t. make it a statement piece that reflects you. go for glitter, spray paint, rosewood or what ever and don't hide it.
Trust me lol when I end up with a mobility scooter or wheel chair and I will , 60 now n walking n not many yrs from that , mine will be spray pained bright purple lol , my fav colours and totally customized look wise 😂

My heart. Years ago I took my nephew rock climbing. We spent the whole day climbing at the gym. He is also my dance partner in a little ballet skit we did together. At the end of the day we sat on the ground looking up at all. The places he had just climbed. He told me " I like rock climbing.. But I think I like dancing with you more." The way he looked at me when he said that will stay with me for the rest of my life.
Just wait until she's a teenager. Then hanging out with her in public will become "the worst day in my life".
Sometimes we click better with our grandparents than our parents.
There's a Dr. Seuss quote that comes to mind: "We're all a little weird, and life's a little weird, and when we find somone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we fall in mutual weird and call it 'love'." That's true of all forms of love, be it familial, romantic, platonic or anything else.
Even better, uplifting stories don’t have to be empty fluff. They can be meaningful and informative, too.
The Engaged News Project found that readers who saw stories offering solutions to poverty stayed on the page longer. It also showed that solution-based journalism made people feel more inspired and even more motivated to help.
Some of the best, most meaningful times I spent with my son (now 13) were baking with him. We started early--he was 3 when we made our first cake. We graduated to basic knife skills by the time he was 6. This spring, we've been working our way through a new meat store near him every Saturday. I can throw on a dry rub or trim fat, but he wants to do it all himself--prep, grilling, plating, the works. It's fantastic.
Yup I taught both my kids to cook from scratch to , at a very young age they now 21m -24fand both are brilliant cooks , it’s a lovely thing to do isn’t it

I had an appointment to see a place when my partner and I were looking to move in together. Got a blizzard that day. Street was ⬜. Got stuck in the middle of an intersection. Three prospective neighbors helped me push us out. You better believe we chose that neighborhood.
They are good people and should be allowed to be part of this country. Variety is what makes this country what it is; it makes us strong, innovative, forward- looking and it makes us who we are. Please remember that we ARE a nation of immigrants, every single one of us.

Load More Replies...My (now ex) husband and me got a little lost on our way to our hotel deep in Shizuoka mountains. Phone battery almost dead, no signal (because deep montains), pitch dark, stupid us, yeah, we know. See a faint light, go towards it to find a small hotel, but not the one we are looking for. Already quite late in the evening, so the entrance is closed, the reception desk empty. We go around the building hoping to find some living soul, and see a little girl in the corridor at the back entrance. She sees us and runs away. Now, we are two expressively foreign faces, staring at her from the darkness, so naturally she'd get scared and want to hide from us, right? But no, turns out the little one just went to call for an adult. The adult is the sweetest Japanese gentleman, who goes to the trouble of starting his car and giving us a lift to our hotel, which, by the way, isn't even a hundred meters apart from the building. All just to make sure those two stupid foreign strangers are safe.
Had a friend leaving our house after visiting during a big blizzard. Left relatively late at night - 10 or 11, realized his truck was stuck so we were all out there pushing. Then all of a sudden someone realized we had an extra person. Neighbour-lady (who I hadn't previously met) had showed up in the night like Batman. No-one had noticed her arrive and she hadn't said a word. Was just quietly helping us push the truck haha. (All kinds of Batman here on this BP thread today!)
Not snow, but at last year's 4th of July parade, one of the classic cars broke down in the middle of the road. No less than 6 men from all over the crowd ran right over and pushed him all the way to the end. I love being from the Midwest.
It's weird not too! Ohio by Lake Erie here. I've pushed and been pushed. We always help neighbors shovel.
Load More Replies...Funny how people hate immigrants but they go out of their way to help more than the people born in the Country that they came to.
When I lived in Idaho, USA, my neighbors all carried bags of clay cat litter in the trunks of their cars in the winter so they could help anyone stuck on the ice.
So, if you’ve ever doubted the power of a wholesome post, don’t. Your brain and body could seriously use a dose of something good. Maybe make some space for more of that in your day, it just might make a real difference.
Now he’s gonna be a lovely adult ,well done mum/dad , you should be proud , your bringing up a lovely lad x
When a classmate turned 7, we all were invited. The cake had been made with some sort of fat that got rancid ("ranzig" in german, translation right?). Everybody mumbled on tiny pieces and assured everyone else it was great because his Ma was known to be sort of rough. I didn't really know about this potentially setting her off, and declared it inedible. Was escorted out, but the next day, everyone was brave enough to agree. Three kids had to be collected by their parents because they had thrown up. What a great day...
This is beautiful, every time I see it, it makes my heart happy.
So refreshing to hear about a lovely soon-to-be stepmother being so gracious about the mother of her step-kids, instead of trying to completely erase her from their memories and lives. Whether their bio mom is alive or not, or a good person or not, it is not for step mom to declare to the kids, but for the kids to decide for themselves, and for the step mom to support their decision.
Goose bumps! This completely unselfish, wonderful woman is an angel on earth.
After my wife died unexpectedly, I told the world I was "done with romance," because I hurt so much. A year later, to my complete surprise, I met and fell in love with the woman to whom I am now married. Early on, I told her I would always love my first spouse. "Of course you will," she said, "That's as it should be." It made me realize that the heart has an infinite capacity for love.
All the apples I eat nowadays taste bland - even the ones from the local farmer's market. They don't smell as good either. Apples just don't taste like they used to. Maybe it's soil depletion. And no, it's not my taste-buds - all other foods taste just fine.
They’re also mealy and mushy and gross-tasting (if there’s any taste at all) when they get to market. I like apples to be crispy and crunchy and sweet but not overly. Generally have to go to an orchard for that. Thing is, I’m 64, and remember that apples used to be nicer and crisper back in the day than they are now. Oh, they’re prettier and more perfectly shaped, for sure. But I would rather have imperfect shaped apples that tasted good. Same goes for all other fresh fruit and vegetables. I couldn’t care less if it doesn’t look perfect, but I care a whole hell of a lot if it doesn’t taste good.
Load More Replies...Apples seeds do not produce the same fruit they came from. Each seed will produce a new, different apple. That's why apple orchards all graft branches from trees that produce the apple they want. You can't just grow the apple you want.
It is also why there are apples everywhere in the world - one of them seeds will find a good spot

She recalls running to her mom yelling something like, "Mom! There's a black woman on TV and she ain't no maid!" She begged Gene Roddenberry to be on the show, even if she were just a background character. The part of Guinan was created for her starting second season. Representation matters.
I don’t know why your comment isn’t on top. You are spot on!

My mother’s secretary was black. When I was 5 she bought me a black baby doll. It wasn’t **very** dark, those times being as they were, so it looked very much like me. I kept it for YEARS until it got lost in a move when I was in my 40s. Seeing yourself represented is everything, even if it’s just a commercial on TV, bandages… Or a baby doll.
My daughter is Latina with dark eyes, skin and hair. When she was little, she always bought a new Barbie or Brat doll with her allowance and it was always blonde. It wasn’t until she got older that she understood why I kept trying to push the black and brown dolls on her. But she turned out OK so I’m happy.

When my daughter was into Barbie's, I took her shopping for one. It was the first time ever I saw a redheaded Barbie. I cried! Being a redhead and always teased and insulted by my classmates, I think this would have helped my self-esteem. As a child, I hated myself for years. This memory still brings tears
Why would a hunk of plastic offset the teasing and insults? As a redhead myself, i dont see Barbie changing any of that

As I was coming out I watched her drive away in a much newer, nicer vehicle than I had. She had a fairly new Cadillac escalade (big luxury SUV)and I was driving my little 20 year old beater. Oh well, I got a rotisserie chicken out of it.

I hate roller coasters - I always have. I don't like that "stomach drop" feeling. I don't feel an adrenaline rush on them. My entire life I was told "just get on and ride it, we're all riding it, you'll get used to it" - even by my family. I never "got used to it". I finally realized in my late 20s that I don't HAVE to get on the roller coaster even if all of my friends/boyfriend want to. I'd stand in the line with them, and as soon as we got to the top, they'd get on the roller coaster and I'd step across to the exit side and just wait at the exit for them. It was so incredibly freeing.
I’ve never been on a roller coaster before, and I don’t ever want to get on one either. More parents should say such sweet things to their kids.

A bikini cut is a 'pfannenstiel' - not all surgeries can be done that way rather than an up and down cut, but they mostly try to leave the smallest/best/unobtrusive scar they can.

Even back then I never, ever got gay hate. My high school choir director in the 70s, who was adored by all of his students, came out as gay after retiring and divorcing his wife. The thought that if he came out earlier he would have been fired, denying decades of students his ability to inspire young singers infuriates me. Before his recent death during COVID, a bunch of his former students, including me, created a video of us singing one of the songs we traditionally performed. He was more than touched.
This drives me a bit nuts. I was raised in a VERY "Catholic" family. Dad was a Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus (not the same as the other kind of "Grand Knight".) Mom ran a bunch of the help systems for pregnant teens. We had Uncle Kevin, in the early 1970s on... he was a "Confirmed Bachelor". Literally everyone except my youngest sister knew that meant gay. (She learned this decades later, and she's further left than any of us.) Kevin was a real part of the family. No judging. Just a bit different. We had an "aunt" too - the term for her was "spinster." And yes, their "friend" was always welcome. This was West Coast, but the idea that acceptance and inclusion is new is so inaccurate. We were all just people even 50 years ago.
It is weird that younger people do not believe that tolerance existed many years ago. My uncle was never married and everybody knew pretty much that he never will. This was in the 80s. No one ever made comments in the family and no one kept pestering him about finding a wife. He never came out really, i think he felt that it is nobodies business and he did not want to push it on people. So he stayed schrödingers homo, so to speak. Nowadays he would maybe just tell people ( he died 20 years ago) but would people really be more tolerant or would they just pretend because it is expected? I am not so sure
Load More Replies...I'm with you, can't understand why the established Christian religions won't tolerate LGBTQ+ community. Many of us were livid. Christ doesn't hate, ya know? She got another job easily enough but still. I understand it's getting more acceptable for Catholics under the last pope but still not perfect. People can be so mean.
For what it's worth, there are Christian denominations that don't hate gay people, the ELCA church is one

I think a lot of depends on where you were in the US. The coasts were definitely more accepting soon.
I was teaching my daughter to ride a bike. I promised I would not let go until she asked me to. Running behind her holding the bike's saddle with one hand the other on her shoulder. "Can I take my hand off your shoulder?" "OK dad" "Ok, you're still going! I'm holding with my 4 fingers and thumb. Can I just use 3 fingers to hold you upright?" "Ok, dad" "Ok well done, can I try with 2 fingers?" Ok, Dad" "Can I try with just one?" Ehhh, OK..." "OK, Do you really think I'm holding you up with just one finger?" "Am I riding on my own?" "What do you think? I promised not to let go until you asked me to." "You can let go now dad!" SHe taught herself to ride with just the confidence of being supported. She is magnificent.
This guy is Shen, he makes funny and sometimes really wholesome comics. I found him via Webtoon, he’s great. Ya’ll should check him out sometime.
There is always a light at the end of the tunnel, you just have to go the distance. Have been living with cronic depression for 30+ years now.
So interesting though that the baby gets the joke on so many levels. I love it 😻
I’ve seen this one so many times and I love it as much as the first time!
I've worked in a hotel with a golf course. The cart girls (basically a snack/beer golf cart that they drive around the course and sell stuff to the golfers) take a lot of @buse. Mostly from old fat guys who think being rich makes them attractive. 🙄
..they think being rich makes them attractive............That's great. I gotta remember that one. :)
Load More Replies...If I ran that golf course, and I heard this story, I'd do two things. First, I'd get a sign made for the golf cart with "BEER ANGEL" in huge letters. Second, I'd give her permission to skip any golfer who calls to her with anything but respect. And when they came in and complained that the beer cart didn't sop for them, I'd tell them, to their face, she doesn't stop unless she's respected.
All drink carts should be so labeled. The drink LADIES could wear wings...
Every guy or girl that comes around to give me a beer on a hot day is a “Beer Angel”!
Some people are utter sh!t, regardless of occupation or money. Some people are great, but sometimes they seem to be in the minority.
Why be crude and ruin someone’s day when you can be nice and make someone happy ?
My thing is giving eye contact, a smile and a thank you to every person behind a counter. I've been there and know it can be dehumanizing. It costs nothing to do this and can make their job a little bit better.
THIS! It's a bittersweet feeling when I smile at a cashier and wish them a nice day and they react like I was a saint sent from Heavens.

I've worked retail for over 40 years and would like people to respect our positions. I would like this more than candy.
Oh, I love this! I always make a little extra effort to acknowledge the difficulty of what they do and crack a joke, but I think I might add candy too!
I always ask if they have enough for x amount for cash back.
Load More Replies...The older I get (I am 58 now) the more I take care to really acknowledge people. I can feel this makes a difference.
What a great idea! I wish I had thought of that years ago! Being a cashier can be hideous.
I had that done to me!! 😁 I was eyeing some new and quite expensive chocolates on the display when a customer approached. I checked him out, he asked if the candy was good, to which I replied honestly that I don't know. Then he added the chocolate to his purchase, and when I went to give him the receipt he handed me the candy with some sweet, encouraging words 😊 I was just a teenager in my first job, trying to do my best despite the anxiety, and it not only made my day. It stays with me as a joyful memory to this day - 20 years later.
This is f*****g perfect. It certainly brought back MY beautiful smile.
When I gave a presentation at a conference of of the speakers in my group had her boyfriend come prepared with relevant questions just in case no one in the audience wanted to ask us anything. Truly appreciated - he's a good guy.
My ex got her PhD in biology, we used to lay in bed at night and she would tell me about all the stuff that goes on in her lab or what her paper is testing (some basic bit of research that everyone knew was correct but no one had actually did the research). When at the family cabin we would walk around at night and she would tell me the stories behind the constellations. Unfortunately, we hate each other now but the memories are still good
Stick your finger in your ear and scratch it... then you really had it

Well, y'all, I am sorry, but those hateful-a*s caterpillars that everyone is afraid to step on are going strong because of my butterfly bushes, milkweed, and butterfly weed.
My mom has a huge bed of plants for them. Same as yours but also coneflowers. The butterflies love them.

One is a picture of a full-grown deer. The other is of the deer's clunky little brother. Give both the deer and the brother time.
I mean, he's old but I dount he's a Brazillian. /s

I recently watched a compilation video of babies picking their first Pokemon. Squirtle was the most popular.
If I'm on a walk and see earthworms on the pavement I give them a toss onto a lawn.
Same on our patio and sidewalk after a rain and the sun comes out. Nothing worse than a bunch of dried worms everywhere! get back into my garden!

On a side note, it's always weird to me when people use the plural form of the verb when the subject is singular (but is a word that means a group of things). We don't do that in the US. They do this in the UK, and maybe other places. In US it would be "Her school HAS said her class HAS missed out...." It's regular, since the subject is singular, whereas the UK pattern is irregular.
When I read "Her school have said" I was sure OP is in the USA.

this is the time that doctors are jealous of vets. doctors get mavis with a gammy hip while vets get vlad the destroyer that turns out to be a gerbil needing its teeth trimmed. i know which would be more fun

My son used to LOVE giving injections. Dude is a Lantus pro between me and his grandmother... a year ago, he got diagnosed with a whole bunch of stuff (on the annoying side rather than the life threatening side, thank føøk) and the docs told him he'd be giving himself HGH injections for approx. 3 years, six times a week. The universe prepares you, man. He's three months in, has gained five-ish inches and 45 pounds. My former lacrosse left wing's gonna be looking at football fullback next year at this rate!
Do you by any means think a 4-year old or his parents arranged the event? Here’s the background, educate yourself https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josh_fight.

But even though I do have consistent habits about going to certain businesses and even sometimes getting to know the servers a bit, I always mess it up by wanting variety.
In my family we “ca caw”, like crows. The other “ca caws” back. Works great with kids!
A friend of mine with a lot of kids was talking with her 2 oldest, like 14 and 12. The 14 yr old said, "I think 9-yr-old is beginning to suspect that Santa isn't real. The 12 yr old is like, "HE ISN'T?" 😲
Some people have leg day. Some people have egg day. Whatever works.
I can't quite make it all out. Can anyone else tell me what it says?
I guess if you wait long enough, what goes around comes around!
Load More Replies...Is this to somehow imply that with grown people, anyone in this situation should react the same, and if they don't, they are somehow in the wrong? I sure hope not. How incredibly intolerant such an attitude would be - to try to force a sexual orientation on someone.
If the adult's response is, "I'm not attracted to guys, so it's a shame, I guess we will just stay friends" then they're fine. The striking thing is not that the boy is bi or pan, it's that he's so empathetic that his first response is "oh no! I've been using the wrong pronouns!"

True. I don't care about the life of any celebrity, even people I actually like. They are human beings who deserve privacy, too.
