Yes, but it was his wife who told him to do it. It's quite okay if women have some things for themselves, I assure you. It's quite okay if some stories are about how women look out for each other. Men won't all spontaneously combust because of it, so rest easy.

They are amazing people and kudos to the husband. I just want to say...sometimes you shouldn’t be afraid/shy to talk about your good deeds. This lady could have changed her bus route location/time to somewhere/ time less convenient... And no, I don’t think anyone should feel bad accepting someone else’s kindness. You say thank you and pay it forward. ****also, we need all hands on deck to make progress.

Seems to me that a sister had a nice idea, but a brother was the one watching your back. That's a pretty wonderful story, but I was a bit saddened at the husband not being appreciated for his amazing actions when the wife was appreciated so much for just a suggestion that he do something.

The year 2020 has been one hell of a ride. And although things are finally going for the better, many people still find themselves struggling to cope with uncertainty about the future, prolonged effects of quarantine, and low spirits in times of worldwide health crisis.

A batch of positive news, like this post, has likely done the job and lifted our spirits, but finding inner peace in your mind takes much more than that. In order to find out what an expert has to say about keeping oneself in a good place, Bored Panda reached out to the positivity coach and author of “Positive Young Minds” Lynn How. Lynn specializes in supporting parents, teachers, and children as they navigate through mental health issues and prevention.

According to Lynn, there’s always a source of strength deep inside us which helps us get through all kinds of crises. “Whether it’s work-life balance or combatting an issue such as addiction, a pandemic situation such as this exacerbates our difficulties to the extreme. With suicide at an all-time high and a mental health crisis on our hands, it is time we learnt how to access those skills which will help us to help ourselves.”

But Lynn explains that inner strength is something we most often don’t know we have until it's needed. “It’s what keeps you getting up every day when all you want to do is crawl back under the duvet and pretend the day hasn’t started. It’s the thing that makes you smile at your kids when you’re dying inside.”

My outdoorsman brother died suddenly during the summer. He had told several of us his plans for when he died. I was blocked from traveling to his state by Covid orders, so our surviving brother flew from CO to NY to accomplish his wishes. He and my brother's two closest friends hiked two hours out into the woods to a small lake where my brother had canoed and camped, and there his ashes and those of his dog were reunited with the wilderness they both loved. One friend and my brother were in their 70s, so this was a pretty big thing for them to do.

My sister said she watched her 13 year old daughter jump and cry when she saw her friends the first day back to in-classes. The school had switched to online learning in March and didn’t resume classroom learning until October. That’s 7 months without seeing any of her friends. It’s heartbreaking that the wee ones social activity needed for growth has become collateral damage to the pandemic.

Many people are worried about the sacrifices kids have to make, that they’re missing out on major milestones. They are and I appreciate them for it. Just don’t forget, they’re learning so much about empathy and doing their civic duty. I’m sure that many of us have learned to take care of our needs or value our relationships. It doesn’t mean we don’t need each other (or personal space).

Luckily, “We all have it to some degree and therefore we can build upon it.” In order to do so, Lynn says it's crucial to not be afraid to ask for help and let people know how you feel.”

Another important aspect of finding one’s inner strength is resilience. The positive mindset coach explains that “it’s the ultimate key to that inner strength, that ‘bounceablility’—which is the ability to keep getting up when you get knocked down, is often what you learn in the first few years of your life.”

This is a trait that should be fostered from an early age, but “unfortunately, as parents, we always want to solve children’s problems to cause them the least amount of pain possible.” But resilience is also something we can work on throughout the course of our lives.

I told his superviser that this time, I have no other options left any more but to fire him. "oh, haven't you heard, he died in a terrible accident" and gives me a very detailed, graphic and bloody description of how my worker tried to cross the road and was caught between two lorries. I work in a school. Been in everyday since first lockdown in March 2020 to make sure children and parents could get online, support all the teachers learning how to make online lessons and looking after key worker kids. Even stayed open during the half term for those kids. We opened again to all the children in September. Straight away I had a kid walk into see me in tears. He was just so happy to see us and had missed us. People think teaching is so easy! Give a lesson, all that holiday, finish at 3:30pm! They have no idea of the real workload and sometimes the real heart ache when you learn what goes on in lives of some of these children. I have a number of stories about young children that would make you question humanity and how people could treat their own kids so badly, let alone any child.

When I went to rehab 20 years ago everyone that worked there were recovering addicts. They understood how we felt going through DT's. The main guy over the center told us about the night he was drunk and thought super glue was hemeroid (sp) cream.

It means so much for someone so young who is not expected to help, making sacrifices to help the best way they can, it renews your faith and drive to makes things better too! Her heart and compassion are moving, and her artwork is beautiful! Bless the very bones of her ❤️

The same thing (kinda) happened to us in October 2020, 2 days before my birthday. We had to put our first cat down that we had rescued in college. I emailed Chewy (and his regular vet and specialty vet), explaining what happened and that I needed to turn off the auto ship for his prescription/prescription food. They all sent cards, and Chewy included some treats and a toy for our little guy kitty. I will ALWAYS use Chewy!!

Chewy is so good about that. I ordered two cases of special food for my diabetic kitty a few years ago. He passed away only after about five cans were eaten. I emailed Chewy about it and they refunded my money and asked me to simply donate the food to a shelter. They also sent a beautiful bouquet of white flowers. After seeing this post, I'm thinking they did that because my kitty was pure white ... although I have no idea how they would have known that and now it scares me a little. lol

No, white is actually a mourning color depending on where you're from and your religion. But it was still sweet. Especially if you had uploaded a pic of your kitty to your Chewy profile. They may have gotten it from that.

From what I’ve been reading, it seems an overwhelming majority of children of anti-vaxxers get themselves vaccinated the second they turn 18 and their parents can’t do a thing to stop them. I applaud them, not only for getting vaccinated, but for surviving to 18!

I was diagnosed with clinical depression when I was 8 years old , so I can't tell you that you will probably never understand how much what you are doing is helping . You're most likely saving a life. The world needs more people like you

I'm glad they came around but honestly, it still baffles me that it can take parents 21 years to accept that their child is attracted to the same gender they are. It's really complicated for me to understand why this can be so hard. 21 years is a long time to spend being disliked by your own parents for this.

The parents were probably taught when they were young that being gay was wrong, or unnatural. When they learn that their child is gay, they might wonder if (or people will tell them that) they did something wrong along the way. It can take a long time for traditional beliefs to change, but I'm glad they eventually could accept it. Baby steps.

hohoho I'm so nervous to come out to mine, I know my step mom is going to give me looks and is going to be whispering "you know you're going to go to hell, right?" or "God thinks that the way you're choosing to live isn't the best, and you should come back to him" and/or leaving little passive-homophobic notes around my stuff, as well as snooping around my s**t more than usual, but hey. It'll only be 2 more years until I can get away, so why tf not. Planning on doing it with my friends, at a roller rink, for my Sweet 16 (a milestone my step mom takes very seriously apparently). Tbh, I don't really care if they don't accept me, because I know they won't kick me out. Even if they do, I have like 3 or 4 friends whos parents are willing to take in any stray gay, lol, and I'm thankful for them every day <3

Yes, animals do know, that's why your daughter's dog considers your daughter her mom. By the way, does the dogie have a name? - "If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and a man." - Mark Twain (1835 - 1910) American writer

As a Turk, i can say that stray dogs are "usually" have good lives. They can move around freely, the people in neighborhood feed them, local shop owners talk about them as if they are one of the people, we give our leftover foods to dogs in my Uni and they can be pet by anyone.

I want this to be me at that age—-and beyond. I come from a very long-lived family, with several members who lived to over 100—even back in the 1980s when that made the news. Knowing that, I have planned my whole life to retire in my eighties instead of my sixties, because why should I spend an entire third of my life trying to survive on ever-dwindling social security and retirement investments? Adding 20-25 years to my working life shortens that downtime, and lets me sock decades more money away, to have a shorter and much more comfortable retirement.

They remind me of a group of HS-aged young men and women I saw at the grocery store. They were wearing masks and staying several feet apart. I gave them thumbs-up. One guy walked up to me and asked, "Do you know us?" I didn't, but appreciated them being cautious. He handed me a pamphlet. They all have faced health crises from birth to present-day, and they wear masks and keep distance to TAKE CARE OF EACH OTHER. I love young people who are AWARE AND CARE.

In a similar vein-I got my doggo from a rescue site-his original owners had to give him up when he was a 6 month old puppy. I was walking in town when he nearly pulled me off his leash to go see a couple walking past. It was his old owners-he was so happy to see them, and they were so pleased that dog boy was living his best life with us. XX

I had a lady come in to get a memorial tattoo of her dogs paw and while we were chatting we discovered that she got her papillon from my mom and I have one of his litter mates at home. So we shared dog pics and it was just wonderful. The one tattoo shop she goes to and the artist who tattoos her and it turns out we are puppy family. She cried, I cried, and she became a regular client and when she got a new pup she stopped by the shop so I could meet him. 🐶

That's what patients look like after major surgery. My mom had multiple heart valves replaced, and my sister screamed "She's dead!" when she saw her after surgery, even though my critical care RN husband tried to prepare us for it. She survived that and breast cancer for another twenty years. Good luck to this young man.

Oh, nice. Dead trees are the basis for books, after all. Also, the word "book" relates to the German word for beech (Buche) and probably because the first runes were carved into beech-staffs back in the very olden days. So this is doubly-triply fitting!

I secretly hoped for a boy, when I was expecting my firstborn. Out came a beautiful daughter, and of course I loved her as she was. 15 years later, I found out that I actually GOT the son I had hoped for ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 The love is the same ❤️

It's funny how things work out in the end! I have a similar story. I really wanted a sister but ended up having a "brother". I was sad at first but we were still close growing up and I loved him. I found out 19 years later that I had a sister all along! I love her still dearly and my kids now have a wonderful aunt. My son's only concern was that he still wanted her to be his friend. When we told him yes he was happy. Love is love ❤!

My family is similar. I have autism, but ever since we found that out a few years ago, nothing has changed. They have not once abused or mistreated me, and despite being imperfect just like me and everyone else in the world, they try so hard. I couldn't have been born into a better place if I tried. ❤️👨‍👩‍👧

Oh no - autism does not mean 'imperfect'. No way, never! My husband and my son both has autism, and they are both perfect. It can be a challenge to understand each other now and then, but life never gets boring that way, and if it was possible to remove the autism from them, I would protest. I love them both just exactly the way they are.

Randomly Reunited With My Sister Tonight After She Ran Away From Home In 2005

Randomly Reunited With My Sister Tonight After She Ran Away From Home In 2005

The story is quite long and painful, but the summary is that we were raised in an abusive home. She had an undiagnosed mental illness and ran away at 17, I was 16. She was on the streets and dealing with addiction, in and out of rehab but she's been clean for nearly a year now. It wasn't random in that we accidentally bumped into each other, but random in that I assumed I'd never see her again as she became a distant memory, but that all changed overnight. I received a call before bed yesterday from another family member that they'd made contact with her, and that she'd actually moved back to our home city 2 years ago. Less than 24 hours later and she's back in my life again. The whole thing feels very surreal and I'm still trying to wrap my head around what just happened.

BRAVO that is dedication. I share a king size bed with 10 old blind, heart patients dogs, 5 are 21 yrs of age. They let me have 12 inches of the bed and 1 pillow. I was on the road for work around the world for close to 30 yrs, and amazing could never get a good nights sleep. I finally recorded the dogs snoring (at that time I had 12 Saints), and the little chis, min pins, poms and heinz57. After I made the recording I looped it and when I went to bed in a hotel/motel I played that tape and was fast asleep in minutes. You know when you wake up and are in hell....no dogs there....

It's scenes and stories like this that made me changed the whole plan for my new house. I have large dogs and have had in the past so know the troubles that come with age. My house is now on a slab, no deck or porch steps, one story, and textured concrete floors. The old dogs can have an accident anywhere! Of course, this is on top of the 70'X90' pond I put in for them/us. Most expensive dog toy in Placer County.

My daughter has been doing this since about the same age, every 3-4 years she makes a donation. She's 34. It's such an easy thing to do, and many hair dressers will give free or discounted haircuts for the donation. Be sure to know your hairdresser, a few years ago, she found out the one she was going to was actually selling the hair, not donating

This Caring Dog Was Worried The Baby Isn’t Visibly Eating

Their dog hasn’t eaten well since they brought their baby home - the dog kept taking food into the living room and leaving it there. Someone suggested the dog might be worried the baby isn’t visibly eating, so is “feeding” the baby. They tried giving the baby a bowl of food at the same time. It worked.

What Started As An Accidental Text Turned Into An Annual Tradition

This all started through a message sent to the wrong number about a Thanksgiving dinner. The man in the middle asked if he could come to Thanksgiving anyway even though they were complete strangers. They've been having Thanksgiving together for years now.

Yeah, and I disagree with it. I think both parents and children owe one another respect and decent treatment. And parents have the additional responsibility of their children's care and safety, for as long as the child is young and unable to care for themselves.

Whenever I get the urge to see my friends and for things to be "just normal" and be able to travel and all that - and I do get these urges, don't get me wrong - I always picture those people fighting on the front line and think - how could me seeing my friends be more important than them? As long as older people are able to take basic care of themselves and their surroundings, I believe they should be allowed to stay independent. Sure, check on them regularly, and take them some ready made meals to heat up, so they can take a break from cooking once in a while, but don’t run their lives for them, and don’t take their autonomy away from them until they’re so incapacitated it’s the only thing you—-and they—-can do. I’ve seen way too many older relatives, who had been thriving living on their own, go downhill and die with lightning speed, when a busybody relative decides to put them in a home and liquidate all their assets (which is usually the main motivation, btw—-f*****g moneygrubbers!).

We're doing this in my village- when people go out for their lockdown exercise they take a bin bag and collect some rubbish. It's astounding how much crap there is around a small rural village in England. We have a village Facebook page to catch up, say which bits have been done etc and keep in touch with each other. Although the pandemic is a disaster for many reasons, it has also helped bring some communities together and allowed us to take a breath and realise what is really important.

I do this sometimes. There is one back waterway on the Tennessee River that my husband likes to catch fish on. It is a wooded area that I think people camp on. It is always trashed. I started bringing trash bags to clean up. Usually I read while he fishes but I can't read with a bunch of trash around me.

I walk a bit, it helps with depression. I take a bag and take rubbish from wherever I go that day- mostly the beach, lots of local walkers do the same.

And this is why you wear a fricken mask! So people don't have to watch their parents dying in front of them! I had to refrain from punching a guy in the throat when he entered my local store and, when asked to put on a mask, smugly turned around and said "No..I'm not giving up my freedom." I responded with "Freedom of what..being an asshole and putting everyone's lives at risk?"

Freedom is such a misused word. In today's world people don't seem to understand. Having a freedom should never mean you have to take someone else's to get yours. It's a selfish time we all exist in.

Death is something we all have to face, since my mum died from cancer I have no fear. The thing that really matters is who is there to love and comfort you when it actually matters. Your grandfather is loved, it’s the most we can all hope for. I wish him peace and I wish I could hug your mum, she has tough times ahead.

I worked hotel front desks for years, and have heard stories from housekeepers of some of the really gross stuff—-and people—-they’ve encountered, a lot of which would just turn your stomach. Because of that, whenever I travel, I hang up my towels, make my bed, and straighten out the room everyday. The day I check out, I strip down the bed and take down the towels, then put them in a neat pile to go on the laundry cart. Most of all, I leave a thank you note and nice tip. Housekeepers work too hard, and put up with too much s**t (sometimes literally, yuck) and make too little, so anything you can do to ease their day is incredibly appreciated, believe me.

if you look at the bottom left under most Bored Panda pictures they can take you to the sources, in this case Reddit. Someone had the same question and he answered "Actually, yes. A prosthetic foot doesn't flex like a real one. So it can act like a hook, and trip you up a lot. And there's a lot of lines (ropes) on a sailboat to get snagged on."

Congratulations and Great Job! My husband is British, and has been thinking about becoming a US citizen, so he ordered the study guide and sample tests. I was born here, and got As in History and Civics in school—-including college—-and the test threw me for a loop! Never ever think an immigrant who becomes a naturalized citizen knows nothing about the US. I’ll bet they know a lot more than you do!

Our companion animals tune into us so well, they just know something’s wrong—-sometimes even before we do—-and also know exactly what we need from them. I have four cats and a dog. When I’m sick, or laid up for some reason, I always have at least one of them with me, sometimes almost all of them; dog in his bed right next to the bed, or cats up on the bed next to me. It’s like they take shifts, and they each make sure someone’s with me before they leave to eat, go potty, visit with my husband, etc then come right back. I can’t imagine life without them.

Even with really good dental insurance, crowns are prohibitively expensive. Takes a long time to save up for them. Your smile is beautiful—-and so worth the wait and sacrifice. Brava!

This puppers looks like my sisters dog, Suzie. My Dad had late stage Alzheimer's, but he always recognized the dog. He'd pet her when she nuzzled, he'd feed her people food when my sister wasn't looking and if she started barking, whether he was awake or asleep, she'd get a very firm "Hush up! No go lay down!" And she'd obey him....

The biggest expense for a tradesperson is the investment in good quality tools, for a variety of purposes—-some of them are purpose made for very specific jobs and nothing else—-and they are not cheap! You have just given your son part of the core of his toolkit. Make it a tradition to give him at least one good quality tool he needs every Christmas until he’s got a complete set, plus spares and sturdy carrying cases and toolboxes. Same with work boots and clothes, which are also pricey for good quality.
