Oh, the baby. You'd think that experience would make him terrified of even the smell of smoke. Such courage.

a - The dog didn't choose to become a "firefighter" b- other animals have no bloody clue what a fire fighter is, so I don't think they will be "following his lead" any time soon.

I fainted twice - two days in a row - in May, 2015. Our loving female cat circled around my wife and me, very attentive and caring, as if she wanted to help. Certainly, neither cats nor dogs are close to stupid but extremely caring.

My dog did this too. She had a cancerous tumor in her stomach and one day we let her outback and when I walked back over to her after about 5 minutes of letting her be alone, I found her sitting like this, the sunset shining on her face and I just knew in that moment she was ready to go. I could see it in her eyes. She passed away peacefully that night. This picture brings all those emotions back.

My old pupper was very sick the end of his life but he still loved walks, so we put him in the wagon to go for walks. My little brother was very young at the time and one day and to ride with him. They both fell asleep together in that wagon riding through the sunshine. My heart melted that day.

A former neighbor inherited a dog that hadn’t been walked in who knows how long, plus the woman had dementia and never knew if she’d fed him, so she’d feed him again! Plus all the table scraps. After they’d had him a few months, he’d lost so much weight that he looked like a different dog!! He was the sweetest long haired dachshund.

I had CPR preformed on me, and was incubated with a 2% chance of living. That was 2 and a half weeks ago and my wife tells me that my Basset Hound Buster, named after the dog from Toy Story, has been laying by the front door every waking moment of the day, and in the hall at night waiting for me to return. He is such a Beautiful black, white, and brown miniature Basset Hound. I came very close to dying. I go home today, and I cannot wait to see Daddy's Boy. I am so glad to have survived.

Back in 2001 I worked at a vet and one day this lady came in with their German shepherd that we have seen since he was a puppy and he was now around 4 years old. She was adamant about putting him to sleep. Didn’t want to sit in the room, just handed me the leash and walked out without hugging or petting him. Our veterinarian was PISSED. So we looked through all his paperwork and found the husband’s work phone number and called him. 15 minutes later he comes running into the office with tears in his eyes and collapsed to his knees when we gave his dog back to him. He had just recently caught his wife cheating and was filing for a divorce. He was juggling moving out of their house and in to a new place and work and everything else you do when your wife is a cheating whore. This was the cherry on top. I think everyone at the vet office cried that day. We saw them again a bit later when their shots came due and both the dog and dad were doing great.

The AKC advises that Huskies have a very strong prey drive and should be supervised around *any* small animals. The sight of a small prey animal running can often kick in their natural instinct to chase, and eat, their prey. Huskies were bred to survive in harsh conditions. Exercise caution. Just because your Husky is your furkid doesn't make them perfect.

I hate that "people" often self "cut" the dog's ears (especially bully breeds) to make them look tough; and if they were "bred" to fight, it is one less part to get caught and torn. It is a brutal process, often done without any sort of sterile environment or numbing. These types of "people" tend to look at the dogs as "property" and not as beings. It is very sad. *note the quotations around the words... definite sarcasm dripping out from my key board.

@Natasha it is a horrible and extremely abusive practice that is used amongst sick human beings who like to call themselves “dog fighters”. The poor dogs’ ears are cropped (mangled would be a better term) to make them look tougher. :( I’m glad this dog got a second lease at life and was adopted by a wonderful person.

I was at pet supplies plus a month-ish ago and there was a guy walking around with a tiny pit bill puppy cradled in his arms. I go to pet it and notice both it’s ears and tail had been chopped off and stitched up with giant purple stitches poking out like evil zippers. I bet the puppy wasn’t even close to 2 months old it still had a puppy belly. I had a huge urge to rescue the puppy and run out of there into the night.

These monsters that cut off ears and tails should be forbidden to ever own any animals. Better yet the should pay a heavy fine and made to work for a dog shelter for 4 years during their weekends and free time.

They shouldn't be allowed to live in society. Whoever can do this to a poor animal has no empathy whatsoever. A monster like this can also harm a child or a "weak" person without feeling any kind of remorse. They are dangerous and should be kept in a cage for the rest of their lives.

That piece of s**t person responsible for cutting those ears off should have the same done to them. The new round ears are adorable and such a good idea to protect against infection and stuff!

I had two dogs who would do the same for me. We had a large lot and children would come and play with mine and when all was over, well you just wouldn't believe the debris left by them. My girls had to clean it up and then they made their friends pick up dropped stuff but there was still stuff. The dogs would sniff out gum wrapper to plastic bottles and bring them to me. They loved to do it and when all was picked up they brought me small rocks or twigs until I told them it was time to go into the house. Loved those dogs.

My mom’s poodle thinks she’s the nanny of all babies that come to her house! With both of my great nephews, as soon as they would start to fuss or cry, she would come and jump on the boys’ mom or any other adult she could get to easily and jump against our knees and then stare at us until the baby stopped crying!! Even if you were already holding the baby!! The boys’ mom (my niece) said her cocker spaniel was the same way when they were at home!!

What a poisonous comment! I don't think the baby feels alone, or is in any kind of danger. Perhaps you should examine your own life instead of criticising others'. Maybe you should worry less about other people's responsabilities and more about doing something positive for somebody else.

Actually, cheetahs in zoos often have anxiety/stress issues, even in groups. Sometimes stressy cheetah +stressy cheetah just gives you two stressed kitties. At some zoos they get given therapy dogs, usually goldens, to keep them company and chill them out. Apparently it works really well.

Cheetah moms can't raise a single cub on their own--just one cub won't stimulate milk production. When a single cub is born in a breeding program, they are cared for by humans and given a dog as a playmate and socialization mentor. If you're on I5 in Oregon, the Wildlife Safari Park in Winston is a great place to see this conservation effort in practice.

I'm VERY allergic to cats and I'm grateful people don't put their cats in the cart I will later use to buy stuff. Same goes for dogs and other allergy sufferer. Please be considerate of other people who have to live with a different reality than you. If it's a service animal, fine, but don't put him/her in the cart.

Oh cmon people, I've seen hundreds of dogs at target. This good boi is perfectly fine because he's in the cart, and he's a small pupper. The reason why they say "no dogs allowed" at stores is so they won't run around the place ripping/chewing stuff up. They let service dogs in obviously because those people need them, but even then, who says a service dog isn't as germ-y as a regular dog? After all, they're both dogs...

Another reason most of you seem to overlook is that there are actual people who have a fear of dogs. Oh and possibly too, they don't want the dogs to pee or c**p all over the store. Ooooh or hey, how about something innocent triggers a dog that isn't trained to attack someone, god forbid a child. The rules are there for a reason and that reason isn't there for you to ignore!

I come to BP because the posts are fun and FOR THE MOST PART people don’t fight like children. Today is not one of those days. Yes it’s illegal to take pets in stores that sell food. No, service animals are not pets. This may be a dog in training, only the owner knows. Don’t fight between each other on here, talk to your local grocery store if it bothers you so much. There are people in my town that bring large, aggressive dogs that they can’t control into the grocery store, where the DO do their business near the cooler cases. Our store says they can only ask if it’s a service animal, if the person says yes, that’s it. If they say no, the store can ask them to leave. If our health department happens to be in the store, they can do something to the people that are in there without service animal vests on. Also, there are many many reasons for service animals other than to help the blind. PTSD, seizures, anxiety/ panic attacks, diabetes. Many others.

service dogs aren't just eyes for blinds, trained in a certain way to lead walking with opportune harnesses, it can be just a relief for less visible incapacitations like panic attacks or depression, so yes, this can be a very helpful service dogs, despite what rules says.

In some countries dogs aren’t allowed on public transport, unless they’re small enough to be carried in a bag. The end result is that you sometimes see some very large bags!

I have never felt the need to use a kennel because I have chronic illnesses/pain that keep me home a lot but to the people who think they are cruel, why is it any different than a parent putting their child in a playpen for safety's sake while they cook or take a shower? It's a safe place for the pet to be left unattended.

Exactly. I have a terrier mix & if I allowed him free run of the house when we weren't home, he'd be a constant danger to himself. He's hyper with a short attention span and will eat whatever isn't nailed down.

My dog loves his crate as it is his place where no one is allowed to bother him and he can sleep in peace. When his at home during the day half the time he is in his crate taking a nap.

Wrong. We lock him in the cage at night because he will break the occasional window if he hears cats fighting outside. It's not torture, if he were to be out, he could break more windows and get hurt. He's lucky he hasn't gotten hurt yet. Also, we properly trained him so that he could see it as his home, room, bed, etc. And not a trap. Often times he will sleep there during the day without us telling him to.

If you have a dog it's always a good idea to have a kennel, just in case they need treatment, or for travelling. Common sense.

Our local strip mall does fireworks every weekend to "thank" the community. Between almost daily thunderstorms and now weekly fireworks my poor dogmas a wreck. I can't imagine why our town allows them this often just based on the damage to the environment alone.
