“Wait A Second, This Is Wholesome Content”: 50 Posts To Restore Your Faith In Humanity
InterviewLife can be hard, Pandas. We understand that. We all might need a pick-me-up once in a while. Something that can show us that people can be good and kind. We’re big proponents of positive content here at Bored Panda, and today, we have the perfect antidote to a stressful day.
That’s why we’re featuring the “wait a second this is wholesome content” Facebook group. A community of like-minded people who like sharing “the most wholesome things out there.” Their mission is as simple as that – to keep the world more wholesome. So scroll down and get some dopamine from our selection of pics from this group!
We reached out to the creator of this group, Illie Nilbog Curtis. She kindly agreed to tell Bored Panda how the group was created, what it's like moderating such a big community, and what challenges the admins run into most often. Read our chat with her below!

my parents always had pets of all kind - up to 7 dogs at one time - not to mention rescued birds, fish... you name it. as they (parents) got older they decided not to take in any more until one day they were all gone. then mom passed on. they live next door to me & it was hard to see dad rattle around the house like a bb in a boxcar. suggested that he get a dog & he resisted. two yrs ago i told him i would get him any dog he wanted for xmas. they always had little dogs. he decided on a doberman pup - ruby rose. at first he thought he made a mistake but he has admitted that she adds so much to his life. also gives him things to do like make her sweet potato chips, dog jerky, etc. he even bought an oversized love seat to replace his recliner so they can cuddle. dogs are miracle workers when it comes to making a person's life better.
"Originally, I created the tag group back in 2017 or 2018," its creator, Illie Nilbog Curtis, tells Bored Panda. "When tag groups were all over Facebook and everyone was using them as their kind of 'meme' in a sense. I don't remember the original content I had made it for, but it originally started as just a tag group."
Illie says that moderating the "wait a second this is wholesome content" group of 169k members can be difficult, but, luckily, she has help. "I have a team of mods that I can't even tell you how much I adore each and every one of them, as a whole and individually. They have become some of my closest friends, whether they live in another state here in the U.S. or overseas. I would be lost without them."
"The biggest challenge we run into, though, is keeping an eye on comment sections, making sure everyone is actually keeping it wholesome. And duplicate posts as we're going through post requests."
Jewish saying: "Save someone, and you save the world". Islamic saying: "Kill someone, and you kill the world".Chapeau to the lunch lady, and chapeau to the girl who never forgot! Maybe this could be a new thread? Or did BP did a "Do you remember kindness in your youth even though you were never able to thank the one who was kind to you".
There was a beautiful article in the Guardian (yes, a bit higher brow than BP - worth a read!) called "The kindest thing I ever saw" and it was beautiful. I still look it up sometimes when I need a boost of faith in humanity.

Load More Replies...Kind kids but honestly nobody is going to call out BS on that religion? I think religion gets way too much of a free pass these days. Christian Science, Jehovah's Witnesses, Scientology, all oppressive cults with insane tenets that are designed to isolate and oppress their followers. What kind of a deranged religion forbids a kid from putting up a costume and why do so many people feel compelled to respect and tolerate it? We've been fighting race and sex based oppression for so long but somehow if it's dressed up as religious creed it becomes ok. It's not.
If forbidding costumes was the worst thing a religion ever did, the world would be a much much better place
Load More Replies...Exactly, it's freaking Halloween (or something else with costumes)
Load More Replies...Ridiculous that followers of any religion could disallow their kids from dressing up. It's not even vaguely a religious festival and never really has been.
Halloween? Yeeah, sorry but it DID originate as a religious pagan festival and many elements were appropriated by certain Catholic groups, which is why many fundamentalist religions, now, reject it and anything to do with it (such as donning a costume) so fervently. (Source: I’m a recovered Christian).

It might be that he's not allowed to celebrate Halloween...
Load More Replies...Although it's super nice of these kids to do this, I'm wondering if Justin's friend had to lie to his parents about this? Is he allowed by his crappy religion to imagine and go along with this scenario?...or is that banned too?
You have no right to call anyone's religion "crappy" Let people live however the hell they want to, what's it to you?
Load More Replies...Illie says that communities like these help keep the Internet more positive. "I think it's important because even though this initially started as a joke, as a meme even, since it was meant to be a tag group, it turned into a corner of the internet where we didn't allow any of the day-to-day negativity in."
"It turned into a safe haven for only positive content, allowing discourse and educating but no bullying, trolling, or put-downs, and making sure that everyone has a chance to be heard and validated."
Let's face it – most of us spend too much time online. Sometimes, we might seek emotional support in the form of positive content. In fact, a survey by the Richmond Foundation asked people ages 13 and 25 if they are likely to turn to social media to deal with their emotions. 24.3% of the respondents said they were more than likely to do that, and 9.2% said it would be very likely.

<3 When our dog was still alive, our cat used to join us on our walk, circling us, sometimes crossing our path to exchange scents, and sit down at a small distance from doggo to p00p together. Whenever we made a short extra round beyond 'his' territory, catty would sit back and waile a warning, then wait until we returned and follow us back home.
My dog & cat were total sisters and our cat would come on walks around the block with us. She would hide & jump out at the dog for ambush attacks or come running full speed to crash into the dog to give her loves.
Load More Replies...Aww, I take my three cats out for a walk without a harness nearly every day it’s nice out! And I know if it’s going to rain if they refuse!
I do that too. My cats love going for walkies. Even my elderly cat won't play anymore but she loves walks.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, The World Health Organization urged people to actively seek wholesome content. "Find opportunities to amplify positive and hopeful stories," they wrote in 2020. Granted, the pandemic was an especially difficult time emotionally for many people. But that doesn't mean we don't crave positivity online even now.
In 2022, Dr. Michèle Lamont, a sociology professor at Harvard, conducted a study where she interviewed 80 undergraduate students. She found that they greatly valued optimism and being active towards social change. Whereas the older generations expect hardships, the younger gen focuses on positivity to move on from them.
That's why I don't understand people being biased against queers. I tell them I don't have a problem with people loving each other. I do have a problem with people having each other.

Load More Replies...my son did the same thing to me but it was during a field trip that visited a school house from the 1800s. they all dressed up & were taught in the manner of those times. then there was a discussion about values of the times. all the parents/chaperons were in the back watching. the question put to them was what would make a person feel that they were rich. some said having land while others said having lots of livestock. my son: my mom - that's all i need to feel rich. i had to leave the room to keep from bawling out loud.
It's called Zhuazhou and is hold on the childs 1st birthday. And the story that the child picks the parent instead is a common urban legend I've heard at least a dozen of times now.
At three years old, they aren't going to know the value of a dollar. So they aren't going to choose that. The pen, maybe a three year old might know what that is for, for scribbling. The toy, most definitely know that is to play with. To me three years old would more than likely pick the toy. Does anybody else have a thought on this?
how can people not love birds? this is empirical evidence that they are kind, loving creatures
Birds like parrots mate for life. Losing their mate is devastating, to the point of giving up entirely.
Birds pine for their mates and also their owners if they pass away. It takes quite a bit of patience and care to rehome previously owned birds if the loss of their beloved human was recent. They are very emotional and empathic creatures. ( I am a bird owner, exclusively of rehomed or rescued birds)
Do your rescue birds ever accept a new mate if theirs has passed?

We did the same. Mike had had large dogs for most of his life, and had worked with rescue organizations and helped train dogs. He loves dogs. When he and his wife had to relocate (bad situation), I invited them to move to the DC area and come in with me, so we could save money on housing. At that point, none of us were employed. We soon got jobs, but spent ten years moving from rental to rental, and having to move every 2 - 3 years was killing us, physically and financially. And not having a dog was making Mike sad. So we managed to put together some money, and finally bought our Forever Home. Big enough house on .6 acres, with a big back yard and lots of trees and bushes. A year later, I put in a new fence in the back yard, and Mike started looking at rescue outfits. So we brought home Ren. This is the day we brought him home. Rens-Arriv...0efdea.jpg

The psychology behind this is that people tend to dislike losses more than they like gains. For example, if an egg falls on the ground and breaks, we're more likely to focus on that than the fact that there are still nine more eggs we were lucky enough to get at the store. Bad things, in general, elicit a stronger emotional reaction from us. Bad impressions and stereotypes, for one, form quicker than positive ones.

My Dad died suddenly when I was 16, too early for video cameras. My uncle found some cine film, and had transferred to VHS. I still remember how it felt to see him moving, and hear his voice again, even though we can't play the tape anymore.
There are places that can transfer VHS footage to DVD. Hope you can find somewhere that can help.

Load More Replies...Every once in a while my cat (who passed last September) would boop me back when I booped his snoot. I made sure to say "boop" when he did since I said it when I did it to him.
I had gone shopping and bought a bag of kitty litter. When I got home I set it on the living room floor. I went out again for a few hours. When I got home this time, the bag of litter had been clawed open by my cat, Sparky. The litter had spilled onto the carpet. There was a kitty poop on top of the litter! Turns out that they're litter box in bathroom was, well, gross actually. So...they did the smart thing!
That reminds me of a BP article where a woman accidentally locked the room where the cat’s litter box was. So he opened a bag of kitty litter and pooped on top of it!
Load More Replies...Another story about Sparky the grey cat. I lived next to a busy road when I got Sparky as a kitten. I would take him out to the fence and talk to him, saying, "This is a busy street and I want to keep you safe. So do not go beyond this fence." I did this many times during his first couple years of life. He NEVER went beyond the fence which is uncharacteristic for a male-bodied cat! He understood me! So, please talk to your furballs. They grok more than we know!
I used to kiss my latest rescue cat on his cute little nose, and soon he started giving me kisses. Sticking his sticky little nose into my nostril :-D }-p
Our grey tabby girl does that. We kissed her a lot right on the nose as a kitten and now when I get home from work she sometimes meows to get my attention from the back of the couch, then stretches up me once I face her to let me kiss her snoot, then sits back down. She's such a sweet cat.

Back to article headlines – research by Claire Robertson and colleagues revealed that people click on headlines with negative words such as 'hate' and 'worst' more than with words like 'love' and 'best.' Previous research also showed that people share content more if it makes them angry.

Hope he found out they can be recorded on DVD's. I did that with all my family tapes.
That raises a question: "Why share something if it makes you feel bad?" Negativity in the comments section also works in a similar way. That's why some people might dump their frustrations on others.
Comments sections are often anonymous, so people rarely feel the consequences of their words in real life. There's also the online disinhibition effect: some things that are acceptable online would hardly be acceptable in real life – there are rarely any checks and balances.
How people treat animals is how I treat them this person gets a 28472837373839747373362367384/10

Load More Replies...So, how can we avoid falling into this pit of negative news and comments? Arlin Cuncic, MA, recommends starting with the platforms we choose. She suggests choosing outlets that focus on positive news and don't have the anonymity element in the comments.
Cuncic also says that educating yourself outside of the comments section can be helpful. "Read trusted sources of information and form your own opinion rather than relying on what you learn from the comment sections of news sites or social media pages," she writes.
I adore puffins. I first heard about/fell in love with them while my brother was stationed in Iceland with the US Air Force. He had given me a stuffed puffin toy and I just had to read everything I could about them.
I went to Iceland as my first solo trip. I found a spot that had tons of them. I made three separate trips to get pics of them, two of the trips it was rainy, windy, and cold. My last trip, which was last day there, it was beautiful and sunny. Out of those three trips, I took about 500 pictures, on both a digital camera and on my phone, and spent around three hours total. Was so worth it!

Load More Replies...My favorite fact about puffins is that the Porgs in Star Wars came about because the film was shot on an island where they nested, and there were SO MANY that it was impossible to edit them out, so they just used CGI to turn them into characters, which is why the Porgs have bird-like mannerisms
Yep. I like the theory that Opus is a Puffin and not a Penguin.

Distancing yourself from the negativity can also help. There's nothing wrong with blocking, unfriending, or unfollowing the pages and people that cause you to have negative reactions. Instead, Cuncic encourages people to contribute to the positivity online. Share wholesome stories with others and leave positive comments – be that little part of change.
That is SO awesome. I love seeing evidence that true love endures.
Don't forget https://sci-hub.se/, one specifically for free articles usually behind paywalls
I majored in environmental studies and so many of the instructors would give us digital versions of required reading for free. It was appreciated!
What country is this from? In the United States, colleges and universities cannot legally require students to buy textbooks from the school bookstore. In fact, school bookstores are required by federal law to provide, upon request from a student, all identifying information about a textbook including title, author, edition number, year published, and ISBN number.
Oh man. When I was in uni there were books that were extremely expensive AND needed to be ordered by a bookstore from overseas. Internet as we know it today did not exist yet . We all spent countless hours copying entire books. Sometimes doing 4 copies at once meaning after the copying you had to manually split the pile into 4 books, for your fellow students.
College textbooks are a massive scam. My father wrote a book on archaeology. Given the nature of it, he first went to a publisher that did college text books. They wanted to charge 150 to 200 per copy. He declined, even though it would have meant more royalties per sale, because he knew it would mostly be used by students. He went to a different publisher, and now the book is available on amazon for about 30 bucks.
1998 to 2002 I easily spent 800 to 1200 on books per term. I can't imagine what is like now. It's insane

Sometimes, we need to tell our lizard brain not to engage in activities that give us instant gratification. That includes looking at the comments section. If you know yourself to be one to fall into the rabbit hole of negative comments under a news article, just don't do it. "You might decide that you will only spend five minutes reading comments on social media, and avoid comments on news outlets websites altogether," Cuncic suggests.

Lastly, taking a break from all devices is always an option, too. Cuncic recommends not using your smartphone at least 45 minutes before bed. Similarly, designate short periods of time during the day when you're device-free. "Go and do something like go for a walk in nature, do some meditation, write in a journal, or call a friend," she adds.

I hope the owner realizes just how important and valuable this offer is!! Not just for autism, more conditions cause you having a hard time with external impulses. I can remember my kids once running to the counter before bowling, asking them to turn down the music because dad can't cope with it. They turned it off completely (okay, not many guests, but still). The place is closed now, but seeing it still gives me the warmest feelings.
I'm not autist, but a restaurant/cafe without music, noise and hulabaloo is a bless. Especially for a Finn living in Bulgaria...
I wish there was more understanding around autism and other neurospicy issues in public spaces. It's exhausting to deal with dirty looks when a child is just being themselves.
I was on a school trip a while ago. It was with an alternative provision, so while not a special needs class, we do have a much higher ratio of ND kids than mainstream. Kids were around 12 to 14 year olds. When it was time to leave, one boy started to have a meltdown. It was more or less expected, and I stood with him talking in a soothing way. Just as he was reaching that point where he was being to regulate and wanting a hug, a passing couple stopped really close and stared. The woman then said 'what he needs is a good slap'. So then I had about 10 kids descending in to meltdown. Grrrr. On the other hand, we had given each child a little money for ice-cream, but they had to go up to the counter themselves (some found this really challenging) the staff were so patient and kind. One girl really struggled, kept giving up then going back. When she proudly held up her ice-cream, a few people in the queue clapped. Her smile was priceless.

The owner was very old and couldn't take her any more. Unfortunately Eclipse died, I think last year.

So sad that we lost her in 2022. I saw her a few times while she was riding the bus. https://www.kiro7.com/news/local/eclipse-seattle-dog-who-rides-bus-by-herself-dies/JXRS2PSNZNG63GR463RJHSX2EI/
My town is home to one of the national training sites for guide dogs. Since they only train during the week, they have an option to adopt a guide dog for the weekend so they aren't stuck in a kennel. After you pass their requirements, you go and pick up a dog or puppy, and they stay with you for the weekend. Every weekend it's a different dog. This is so they can work on their social skills, and just be dogs. There are a lot of restrictions as to not compromise their training, but I've had a friend do it and they loved it! I would totally do, but I work during the weekend 😫

Instead of the dogs playing poker painting someone should make a “dogs watching a play” painting
This feels like a great way to get stage actors more practice and/or to utilize existing rehearsals.
I personally love bees because my grandpa has thousands and because of them I have only ever had store bought honey once in my life and the difference was huge and the store bought honey wasn’t as sweet or fresh and the bees that make store bought honey aren’t treated good and they use smokers
OMG really! I find bees on my lawn and carry them to a safe spot so i can finishing mowing. I'm allergic, but I love them. Now I can feed them too!!
If it's sitting on the ground that's a good sign. Though this keyring is good on a pinch, it's better to put them on a flower.
Load More Replies...Just bought a set. I’m the one in our local pub garden that will rescue bees whilst the men all run away 😂
I would pull wet bees out of my pool and put them in a sunny spot with a drop of honey.
My granddad looked like a black santa claus and I miss him! Taught me to ride horses too
I also have synesthesia, but mine relates colors to letters, numbers and full words. To this day, I can remember customer's full account numbers from a bank I worked at more than 35 years ago. I see them as a series of colors.
I have grapheme-colour synesthesia too :) I remember all my previous phone numbers and debit/credit card numbers because of the colours and textures haha
Load More Replies...I never knew some people could only see colors when listening to music
Not only colors from music, just music also makes colors. I don't remember what it's called but it also applies to taste, touch, and some other non-sight things that make color
Load More Replies...Buy the color blind friend those glasses that let them see color. In doubt? Watch the videos of the person seeing color for the first time. Kids go Wow and adults cry.

Not sure I understand this one, TBH, is 'Black Hair' or hairstyles like this somehow discouraged or disparaged in the US?
Oddly, yes. It is, or at least has been, a problem that a lot of places have policies on what kind of hairstyles their employees can wear. These often exclude styles that work well for black hair.

I have a "pet" toad that lives in my window well. I noticed him hanging out in there so I went and bought him a little house, some plants, a tiny pond, and a jar of dried mealworms to put in a little leaf shaped dish. At night he taps on the window to say hi. I get a lot of enjoyment out of watching him. Sometimes he brings a friend around, but mostly it's just him chilling out there. :)
I'm going to take a wild guess that his name is "Toads" in the Contacts list.
My mom sang this when I was a child. We all sang it at her funeral. Great post. Thanks for sharing. :-)
wait .... do you realize you called your dad a looser? i can only hope that wasn't intended
Building shelves is an important skill. It can make hoarding look ok for years! Nah, seriously (although, true, that is...), if you're able to do that, and maybe even somewhat nice, it spares you a ton of money and you never need to compromise due to space and available sizes. You built it into the space it is supposed to fit in, and of course, it does. I do that ... well, did, ran out of space...
I hope your parents love each other and stay together forever because this is true love

Yeah ... made the olives sad ... what kind of human does that?
Load More Replies...Ok, now ... take a green olive that has resided in oil, preferably a seed oil. Take a FRESH toe of garlic and cut to fit in the hole. Put in. Eat this. Load More Replies...My wife LOVES butterflies. I spent months researching all the different things that would attract every kind of butterfly in our region. What they feed on, where they lay their eggs, where they rest, do they like certain colours and what ones they avoid. Winter before last, I made a seating area in our garden and surrounded it with the various plants, fruits, and colours. Last year, while reading a book in the seating area, she found that she was a perch for at least 15 butterflies at once. I loved seeing her so happy. She called me at work yesterday (I've never hear her sound so excited), to tell me she can't wait, because she's just see the first caterpillars of the year.

I could see her before me, grabbing her car key while waiting for an answer. I declined, but just the offer (and she WOULD live up to it) made all the difference in the world. That's the kind of dad i became after her example. 24/7/365 on-call. Moms are powerfull sfuff!
Sounds just like my Mom, I am blessed to still have with me (she is 90). I have always known she was there for me and would help me in any way she could, though I have a wonderful husband, sisters, and friends, I will be devasted the day she passes, perhaps because I will be afraid/uncertain for the first time in my life.

I was grocery shopping and turned around from getting milk out of the fridge section and this guy was in my cart. No clue where he came from. He was mad when I finally caught him as he tried to scurry into my groceries. But then when he felt my hands were warm as I carried him outside (leaving my cart), he hugged onto my hand and closed his eyes and turned green. Didn’t move for a bit too, just took a short recharge on my hand. He was so thankful. It was so sweet.
That's exactly what I was thinking! What a great show!

Been feeling a bit bad about the squirrels having been shut out by the spinning bird feeder. I made them a special place of their own to have a sit down lunch with some squirrel dignity.
If you think about how humans are just little mammals scurrying around this floating space rock for a brief moment in time….we can be pretty cute sometimes

Jumping spiders have singlehandedly cured my fear of spiders/bugs in general.
So, meet my boy, Cannon.
Jumping spiders are fun, friendly, surprising, active and harmless. They don't spin webs, they just walk around, and jump.

I helped the old lady next door with her new TV.

Talkeetna, Alaska is a great place! The Blue Grass festival they have every year is so fun.
I KNOW THIS PLACE! I went there once on a memorial weekend camping trip to talkeetna with my family a few years ago! You get to hold baby bunnies and they wrap them in little washcloths and call them bunny burritos 💕
This is adorable, but carrots aren’t good for bunny tummies, they’re too sugary. My rabbits would be terrified at being handled by strangers, but I guess some would be okay with it.
Years ago, My father and I were working in his attic. He missed a step, and went through the insulation and sheet rock. I caught him around the neck and pulled him back up with him choking the whole time. If he had fallen though, he would have landed on my mother's plate glass coffee table. He always made the joke that I "choked the life back into him". He passed in 2020. I miss him every day.
My dad put his foot through the ceiling once when he accidentally stepped in the wrong place up in the attic. Unfortunately for him that part of the ceiling had custom wallpaper. Mom was not pleased. :)
One of my friends has a story that starts, “The second time (her husband) fell through the ceiling…”. He also knocked himself out using a crowbar to get a tree root out of the ground. He’s thankfully better at being a neurosurgeon.
This is an important lesson I had to learn as a man. It didn't really sink in until my 40's. Sometimes you just need to listen and sometimes you can try to help. The hard part was knowing the difference until I learned how simple it was to just ask "Would you like me to just listen or try to help?"
Please enjoy this photo of my dog enjoying an ice cream at the park
Oooo! Don't do that! Not good for your critter! https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/nutrition/can-dogs-eat-ice-cream/
Life is short. Everyone eats things that aren’t good for them, as a treat sometimes. I say this as someone on a very strict and somewhat boring diet.

Load More Replies...I find concepts like this heartening. It's good to know that I'm a teensy, insignificant part of universal history. My life, good and bad, is mostly irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. It reminds me not to take myself seriously, to stop ruminating over little things, and to try to keep my footprint as small as I am. Humans live outsized lives relative to their importance, and it causes SO many problems: climate change, pollution, war, hate, fear....
My 4 year old niece drew me at school today. I always wear my hair up in a bun, so she drew me with one
