If not for the three grey hairs peeking out, I’d feel as fresh as new. It seems like only yesterday we’d drink Capri Sun, burn CDs and listen to the Smashing Pumpkins. Speaking of the latter, kids these days call it “dad rock,” and how can you blame them?

The oldest of Gen Z, aka the newest generation that was born between 1997 and 2012, is now 24. No, it’s not you who are 24, it’s the kids who have no clue what “pick up the phone'' means.

So today, we’re diving deep into the world of no illusion, ready to face one fact we all dread (hence the booming skincare industry among millennials!)—we are old. Thanks to the corner of Reddit ‘Heck I’m Old,’ we have a collection of posts to make you feel not just old, but rather ancient. “When you look at kids nowadays and see their music you can't help but think of how everything is old,” says the group’s description and from what you see below, they ain’t lying.

If you ever feel like time is passing at the pace of a hadron collider, you can be sure you’re not the only one. Most of us feel that the passage of time is inevitable, and that it only makes us older (but also wiser, more confident and happy overall!).

Having said that, it's no secret that our modern society is obsessed with freezing and even turning back time. This ageing paranoia that’s sweeping across our society has been heavily fueled by social media, where young folks constantly put pressure on achievements, looks, and everything, really. Its competitive nature shows that someone is doing better and has accomplished more by your age than you have.

Being scared of ageing is not only nothing new, it seems like it creeps into the minds of younger generations obsessed with anti-ageing life choices earlier than ever in history. In 2018, a report from the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) found that millennials felt the most negatively towards ageing, viewing it as a steep decline and assuming dementia and loneliness as inevitable.

In some extreme cases where fear of getting older interferes with your life, doctors diagnose people with gerascophobia. “Gerascophobia sufferers have very frequent thoughts about changes in their appearance due to ageing and increasingly losing control over their life as they get older. These thoughts trigger panic attacks, shortness of breath, sweating and shaking," Dr. Rose Aghdami, a consulting and coaching psychologist, told Refinery29.

"Their behavior is affected too, as they often avoid certain activities which remind them of ageing, withdraw from social contact, and become more isolated."

The RSPH has also urged people to stop using the term 'anti-ageing' popularized by the beauty industry, since it could be putting pressure on women to see ageing as something inherently detrimental. Another 2017 study found that 30% of women under 35 were regularly using anti-wrinkle products, a fact that’s so obvious when browsing through social media that you don’t need a survey for it

I kind of liked that the stations turned off at 11pm or 12am. No way you could stay up really late or all night watching TV. But it really was a pain to have to stand up for the national anthem before you went to bed😆! But if you were a kid it was really frustrating if you woke up too early and the channel wasn't on yet. You had to find something to do on Saturday mornings until the cartoons came on.

Bunny - Rabbit ears, just looked it up and they are sold but not the old school ones bc just why lol.. Using another tape player to make a mix tape of music. Beta player and soon to be vhs. Many many many many vhs tapes that were taped over a million times and written on and crossed off on that white sticker line. Haaaaaaaaa. The only cell phone was a car phone and only if you had a good amount of money. I used land line and when I turned 18 I bought a pager. Haaaa a pager lol. They were so freaking cool but so dumb... Teenage kids actually playing man hunt and hide and seek. Kids now a days have NO IDEA what bored is.. Walkman and then the discman which was so super cool even though it skipped a million times through a song. I could go on and on.. Was a great visit to my childhood 🥰

An 8 year old could walk in and buy cigarettes. We took guns to school in the country. Left them in the jeep with the bong. Less than $10 for a concert ticket. Same for the t-shirt. Muscle cars on dirt roads as a teen, fueled by 70 cent/gallon gas. Unlimited supply of big block Pontiacs and mopars. For a few hundred bucks . People who were skilled, and worked for a living. Absolutely not being expected to give even the slightest f**k about the opinions of anyone that isn't actually in your life. No f***s. Not even a fractile portion thereof. When social media was the hallway in between classes. Back when only the real true assholes felt entitled. Karen was just some girls name. A dollar would buy 4 candy bars. McDonald's coffee stirrer was the absolute premier coke spoon of the Disco generation. I could do this all day, but I'm actually being paid to do something entirely other than this. In light of that...

I only disagree with your "People who were skilled, and worked for a living" comment. People nowadays have more vacation time but use less of it than ever. Cell phones mean you NEVER actually have a real vacation day or sick day from work. No pensions to retire with. No company loyalty to the employees... Oh & college loans designed in such a way that they are NEVER PAID OFF. Every job you can get nowadays requires college. Even an (secretary) administrative assistant. But the company still wants to only pay you like you're "ONLY a secretary."

There were only 3 TV channels in Britain until late 1982. Of those channels, BBC1 and 2 were closed down for half the day so all you had was a test card and muzak.

There was a box on the top of the tv that you would press a button to turn to that particular channel. No remote. You had to get up and push a button. Oh, and if the screen was "rolling" and wouldn't stop you would bang on the top of the tv to get it to stop rolling. And most often it worked!

The TV programing ended at midnight. Unless it was Friday or Saturday night. Then there was the Midnight Movie on one of the 4 channels we had.

The child was the remote control for the tv. And we only had 8 channels where I'm from and the kids station turned off at like 9pm or some channels changed to a different one.

Lots of the south and east of the UK only had 4 channels until digital tv took over. We couldn't get Channel 5 because it would interfere with French TV. Those with money could get Sky.

Then they left the room, when they returned I said you googled it didn’t you? And they said yes but they could not imagine a whole phone company be named after Michigan. Apparently they didn’t read the googling quite far enough. So far that’s the oldest I ever felt I’m sure there’s more to come.

I remember my mother standing by the kitchen sink or sitting at the table for hours after dinner, with the phone cord stretched across the room while she talked to her friend. I used to work in a retail bank. A customer brought in a bag of crowns. For those that don't know half a crown was two shillings and sixpence or 12 and a half pence. Therefore a crown is five shilling or 25p. Banks will only give you the value of the coin or note you have to take things to a dealer to get more. The young cashier exchanging these coins didn't give the customer five shillings each, she gave them five pounds each. Oooops

All of the TV channels went off the air from midnight to 5 AM. They played the "Star Spangled Banner" then had test pattern while off air. And we only had 4 counting the Educational channel.

I have ALL of Star Trek the Next Generation (Yes, every single episode), on VHS with NO commercials because... we pressed PAUSE, with the TV GUIDE synopsis for each episode tucked into the case of each 'cassette'. As for Video Games? Mine came on a CASSETTE TAPE - that played through a cassette machine through a Tandy Vision (Radioshack), until I worthy of using Dad's Coleco. This of course, before STTNG.

We used to carry a book that had a map of every state, and in many cases had maps of bigger cities in the car during every road trip. More specific to my teenage years though: We used to print out step by step directions and often times end up getting lost because the directions never accounted for detours or topographical changes.

I still remember the channels we had.. 2 PBS, 4 CBS, 5 ABC, 7 NBC, 25 FOX, 38 WSBK (later UPN) and WLVI 56 (later the WB). And if we had the disconnected cable hooked up, we could tune into tnt on 9 and cartoon network on 11 somehow. Plus didnt have to adjust the antenna and had perfect picture. Also the 60s+ had scrambled naughty channels. If the dials were adjusted just right....could catch a glimpse of something.. occasionally..

Well, be honest, in USA is more things celebrated as historical. Once i was on a police station in small city near New York and on the walls was a sign, something like “rich history of the town Sayreville” and there was a date “incorporated in 1920”. Yes, my milk in fridge is older and have richer history 😀😀 No offense though, i know America is really young compared to Europe ☺️
