Each day we face the consequences of our actions. Some might be funny, others—not so much. But the aftermath of events allows our brain to learn from mistakes. Research shows that when we repeat an action after an error, we take more time to evaluate the response. That does not eliminate occasional mishaps, though.
Some of them are so amusing or fascinating, it’s a crime to keep them to ourselves. We at Bored Panda have browsed an abundance of online posts and compiled a list of people’s best what happens when moments. If You Die In The UK And Are On The Organ Donor Register, The Nhs Will Send A Letter To Your Family Explaining What Happened To Your Organs
They do in the UK. My friend worked for the Organ and Transplant department of the NHS and this is standard, I'm shocked that other countries wouldn't do the same?
Load More Replies...My brother felt useless for his entire life. He often questioned why he'd even been born. When he died unexpectedly at 33, we donated his organs. In the US, after a certain amount of time, donor families and recipients can arrange to meet. The lady who got my brother's liver was a health food addict. She hated processed stuff. After her operation, she awoke craving a hot dog, which was one of my brother's favorite foods.... The man who got my brother's heart and lungs told us his only goal in life had been to live to see his son graduate high school. His voice broke as he said, "And now I get to play with my grandchildren." ... Those were the only two that contacted us, but both had twenty extra years of life.
This is both a sad, but lovely story. Thank you for sharing it with us, Shyla.

In England the law was changed in 2020 to one of presumed consent: https://www.organdonation.nhs.uk/uk-laws/organ-donation-law-in-england/

Everyone needs to sign up to be an organ donner (unless you have in illness or something that stops you from doing it), your dead, your organs arn't gonna do anything for you anymore, give em to someone who needs them.
In France, you are by default an organ donor and need to sign out. They changed the law years ago. In practice, it is more complicated than that, but I think it it is a good law.
Load More Replies...My mom died in the United States and was an organ donor. Because of the way she died many of her organs failed and we were very sad thinking that would exclude her. We got a letter explaining she had been a skin and cornea donor and it was a really lovely surprise.
I'm so sorry for your loss, but I'm glad that your mom was able to be an organ donor. What a wonderful thing to do, thinking of others during your your time of loss. God Bless you and your family. I am signed up to be an organ donor, too. ❤️🙏
Load More Replies...Here in Aus becoming a donor is 'optin' - since we benefit from social health I personally believe everyone should be on the donor list with the option to 'opt out' - generally, only those with strong objections (for any reason at all) will got to the 'bother' to opt out.
My sister was denied being an organ donor after death due to her history and cause of death. This was June of 2021 when she passed. I still get a letter/ card every holiday from the arkansas chapter of aurora thanking me for at least trying. They are very kind and considerate.
My g/f back then (now my beloved Wife) made me register as a organ donor, the only tiny, itty-bitty issue is, I'm 6'7" 285lbs and...don't think many people will have room in their body for whatever spare part gets removed from my frame
Yeah, but think of that *one* person who might need one of your big a*s organs because others are a bit too small. You're not the only giant on earth 😅
Load More Replies...In the US too, and the hospital staff (I'm an ICU nurse) receives the letter as well. Taking care of these patients is very difficult...it's very technical and task oriented. You need to maintain their blood pressure within certain parameters in order to adequately perfuse and maintain vital organs. It's also important to maintain the pH of the blood and body....so ventilatory support and multiple blood gas checks (via blood work) and other labs, including electrolytes and kidney function tests are necessary. It takes two highly skilled RN's and a dedicated respiratory therapist to do this. Once precurement details have been determined the patient is wheeled out of the ICU to the OR. The whole area is quieted and some OR cases are put on hold. Staff (OR, ICU, Resp therapy etc.) somberly line the hallways to pay their respect, as family members walk alongside the stretcher to the OR door and say goodbye to their loved ones. It's quite sobering. I always cry.
Thank you for the information and your hard work and dedication. I'm sure many lives are saved because of you and your coworkers! God Bless! ❤️ 🙏

I received a letter from LifeBanc for my daughter's donations after she was murdered. She saved 5 lives, including a 5-year-old girl. She was 33 and a mother of 3. Her children and I stay in contact with the recipients. 1986-2019
I'm so sorry you and her family went through such a heartbreaking tragedy. It's beautiful knowing that she changed so many lives.

I have a letter like this stored safely at home. My partner passed away in 2016, I also have letters from the recipient and a drawing done by a 7yr old thanking us and telling us that he feels a lot better now. its a truly amazing thing to do.
I am set to be an organ donor. If i can save lives I will. My husband on the other hand, thinks I am crazy. He wants to keep his organs. I want to be cremated, too. I am terribly claustrophobic, and just the thought of spending eternity in a coffin closed up just absolutely terrifies me. So take my organs, burn me up and set me free in the wind! Ashes to ashes and all..
I completely agree! And have the same in place.
Load More Replies...What a thoughtful thing to do. I hope their family can take comfort in the fact their last gift was the most generous thing in the world!
I wish they did this in the states. My fiancé wound up being a donor but assistant we aren't allowed to know about anything. It really would make me feel better to know how he continues to be a hero in death.
Reminds me of this classic ad. Even an a*****e can save lives! https://youtu.be/DVMt0bX2MhM
Wow. This brought tears to my eyes. What a beautiful thing to do!!
I'm from the UK and am on the doner register and did not know this wow !
A friend of mine here in the US lost a family member due to a huge medical mistake. It was all over the news & the family immediately sued. It was settled & several years later they found out the hospital still had some of the patient's organs in storage. Huge scandal again.
My husband received a liver transplant just this past August. We have no idea (live in Utah, US- NO we're not Mormons) who his donor was. We hope to meet the family one day and thank them for their selfless gift. My husbands only 45, and without it he would've passed away before getting to meet our first grandchild (a lil girl we call Bean) that was born 6 weeks afterwards. He wouldn't have been able to be at our youngest sons wedding Oct. 31... I'd love to show them... we hope one day to be able to do that.
What a wonderful way to let the grieving family of the donor know how much that their loved one's organ donations made a difference in other's lives. Although they have list their loved one, I would feel better knowing that they helped someone else have a better life or live. It should be standard.
I'm a regular blood donor and I wish they would send me an email like this when my blood gets used. I would most likely instantly schedule my next appointment.
MY NH/USA drivers license indicates organ donor. Any body that knows me knows I want to give to those that don't have, anything I am no longer using. Let college kids practice on the other bits.
aww that’s nice! kinda like how in Sweden, you are texted when ur donated blood is used
I think that's nice, it's what I'd want when I die. Even if you think you're indestructible it's worth speaking to close friends or relatives about your wishes if you die. I got a donor sign on my boots club card and my husband knows my wishes.
Ireland too. As a medical secretary I remember one particular patient, both kidneys, liver, heart and both corneas helped 6 other patients.
awww! but how is it fair that a young lady waited over FIVE YEARS for a kidney transplant?!?!?!? glad she got it eventually
They have to have a certain genetic match. She must have been difficult to match. That, current health and availability all determine who gets the organ. You have to be nearby and healthy enough to survive the surgery.
Load More Replies...yes, they did that when my brother died and had agreed to donate his organs
I am registered as an organ donor. I have a pretty rare blood type AB+ I really like the idea of my family knowing where mine went.
I'm in the UK and I'm not on the Organ Donor Register. I'm all signed up for the local University for full body donation to the Medical department. On death, acceptance is not guaranteed. My family are aware of my decision 🤓
This is wonderful. In NH the Red Cross lets you know how many people you helped. If you give double reds.
They do this in the US, too. Someone even my my husband's eyeball muscles! LOL
Here in the USA, someone got my dad's corneas, and we got a letter that it was successful.
I'm a donor till I was 16 (my mom signed for me as minor) and now I'm 64 and my 32 son is a donor as well. "a life from a death", but the most are contrary, and it's so sad... there are people waiting for a "spare", dying in the hope. ❤️
Awww that’s so sad but also really sweet (like sad, as in the person dying) 💕 🥹
This should be MANDATORY. The dead don't need organs, screw "religious rights". Mandatory organ donation for all viable subjects.
What religious rights? The Bible tells us we get a new body when we get to heaven. They can take every organ that can be used when I die. Whatever is left needs to be cremated and spread over the Gulf of Mexico. Like my father and my uncle (my father's brother-in-law).
Load More Replies...There's a country somewhere that will text you when someone receives blood that you've donated. They need to do this everywhere too.
The donor program that I think is best would be the 'opt out' one whereby you have to put on your drivers license that you DO NOT want to donate, otherwise your body would go for donation and that would surely increase the much needed numbers of donations.

I really enjoyed this thread and hope to see more of these which is far better than the self indulgent validation seeking threads I am seeing more often on BP these days.
Amen. I hate the "Girl on TikTok is outraged after bridezilla throws a tantrum on the grooms ' family outfits, asks for tiktokers opinion" type of post

Need another one of these posts! I loved this one, it acknowledged all my childish and curiosity-filled questions!
