It’s surely amazing to run into someone that you personally know, but what about running into someone that everyone knows? Well, it surely will be something memorable, and hopefully it went smoothly, because if it was awkward, then it calls for a share with folks online.
Chuck Wending on Twitter, @ChuckWending, decided to ask people to share their weirdest celebrity encounters ever. With over 5k likes, the tweet contained famous people of all calibers: Ice-T, John Waters, Hulk, Sting and others. And it seems that any public spaces such as lifts, airports, Disneyland and bars are the perfect setting for those meetings to happen. Enjoy these serendipitous encounter stories that were quite random and a little bit awkward and vote for your favorite ones.

There will always be an empty chunk in my heart for Carrie. I never got to meet her, but everyone I know who did had the most uniquely beautiful stories to tell. Same with Mark Hamill. They understood their fanbase, but especially, they are just kind, wholesome human beings. I'm going to mourn the rest of my life that we lost Carrie when she was turning Leia into the ultimate hero of the whole SW saga, and just when we needed her most.

I was selling art pieces at a local nerd convention and saw a doggo coming down the aisle (this was before the show was open to the public, so we were all still setting up). I immediately dropped what I was doing to hang out with the dog. Realized after sitting down on the floor with the dog that Carrie Fischer was standing above me holding the leash and laughing. Apparently every other vendor had gone crazy when they saw her, but I just saw dog and was awkwardly oblivious to humans. She bought three pieces of my fanart and thanked me for the laugh. I made sure to say goodbye to the dog.

I saw him before a show in Pittsburgh (I worked at the stadium). I didn't believe it was him...had a bright teal windbreaker on, boat shoes with no socks, hair all did, nice glasses. Went out on stage a few hours later looking like he'd been thrown from a train in his regular getup.

Saw John Candy at the teller counter in the Main branch Royal Bank in Vancouver. Went up to him and threw the smallest post it note to him and asked him to sign because the girls back at the office won't believe it. He chuckled a signed no problem. It read ' Thanks for the Acting lessons...John Candy'. Very humble man.

Maya Angelou. She was buying an outfit, and nobody recognized her except me and one other girl in the shop, and we fan-girled like idiots. Got her autograph. Then had to explain who she was, which really killed the buzz, frankly. But she was amazingly sweet about our going super-fan-girl on her. :-)

Some years ago in southern France, I met a guy in the street and thought "this man looks exactly like Jean Paul Gaultier", Apparently I mumbled the phrase and he smiled at me "Oui, c' est moi!"

Back in the dark ages, you know, the 1980's, I was returning to work from lunch. Very bright outside, very dim corridor to the elevators. All I could make out was a couple fussing with a baby blocking the hallway. Grumbled to myself as I moved to slide past them. It was Joe and Jennifer Montana with their 1st child. I mumbled a hello and scooted past.

I saw a celebrity once, i can't remember who it was, i know i have seen a couple movies with her in it. It was at a doll store and we just let her go on with her day. My dad didn't say anything to me about her being famous until she left. That is how i try to treat celebs whenever i see them

Bono in a downtown hotel in Lincoln, NE. Very, very nice guy. I was waiting for the elevator and there he was only with his bodyguard, it was very late and poor guy was exhausted after an event at the Lied center on UNL campus. They were waiting for the limo to take them to Omaha. Beautiful blue eyes. And yes, he gave me his autograph!

Round about 2009 my daughter and I went to watch Avatar in London. She was 11 at the time and realised she was sat next to an Eastenders Actor (UK soap) the character was Masood Ahmed and she was really excited but I said unless you know his real name she had to leave him in peace. I don't know if it was the right thing to do but Nitin Ganatra was just a nice guy out with some friends so I thought he deserved a night off.

Was in a café having breakfast when I noticed someone kicking a soda machine at the motel next door. If was Don Van Vliet (Captain Beefheart). I knew it was him as I just saw him just the night before in a concert in Petaluma. He didn't seem happy the soda machine took his money.

Petaluma has a concert venue? My stepfather’s Aunt Tess lived in Petaluma when I was a little girl and it was soooo far away from San Jose (which, at the time, was still “Prune Capital of the World,” so a very long time ago)—it really seemed to be a long way from anywhere. Now that I live up on the Mendo coast, I go through there anytime I’m heading down to the Bay Area to visit friends and family (only a nephew still lives in San Jose) and traffic is an absolute nightmare.

Worked for Independence NHP in Philadelphia and was asked to take some people up on the elevator in the Franklin Court. Was waiting for the car to come down and realised it was Leslie Nielsen so I stupidly said "Looks like you picked the wrong week to quit touring!" He laughed like hell and I managed to get his autograph and talked to him about an old show my Dad and I used to watch called "Sea Hunt" He was such a great guy.

Attended a Star Trek convention at a Pittsburgh hotel in the mid-70s. Was waiting at an elevator with my SO and two teenage girls. Elevator opens and inside is James Doohan and two "bodyguards". We all get in and nobody is saying anything. It's so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Next floor up, Doohan and his entourage get off. As soon as the door closes, the two girls start giggling. "OMG, we rode an elevator with Scotty!" SO and I smile. Ten years later at a Superman convention in Cleveland, I get on an elevator... and there's James Doohan. Alone. We rode up one floor... in silence... and he gets off. I have regretted ever since that I didn't say hello and how much I appreciated his work. It's why I approached and talked to Jack Kirby at what turned out to be his last SDCC appearance. He was sitting alone at a table while those on each side of him had many people hanging around, talking and laughing. This has troubled me ever since. He should have been surrounded by fans.

In the early 90's at the height of the Saved by the Bell craze, my sister lined up at a local K-Mart where Mark Paul Gosselaar was appearing. Unfortunately the line was too long, and after two hours, the autograph session was over and we did not get our autographs or to see Mark. Luckily our Mom knew his Limo driver and told her which hotel he was staying in. My Mom walked right up to him in the hotel lobby, apologized, and asked if he wouldn't mind taking a photo with her girls. He immediately kneeled down, and put an arm around both my sister and I. My Mom snapped the photo and he even gave us each an autograph. Within minutes a hoard of about 50 girls stormed the lobby! Mark took off like lightning and ran up an escalator guarded by security. My Mom would have been a hero that day if she had only remembered to turn on the flash for the camera...lol Still grateful for Mark being so kind at such a young age! A very nice guy :-)

i saw someone on tik tok who played pool in a bar with Kristen Stewart and the next day her girlfriend was admitted to hospital with ruptured ovarian cysts and her gf said that Kristen Stewart literally made her ovaries explode

I met Margaret Atwood, back in the mid nineties after a lecture she gave in Pittsburgh. I brought "Cat's Eye" for her to autograph, and as she did I just gushed about how she was my favorite author of all time, and how I'd also read her short story anthologies and poetry and rambled on. I lamely finished that this was much more exciting for me than when I'd met the President. She looked shocked and said "You met the PRESIDENT?" When I nodded she smiled and said "I'm very flattered.".

My encounter with Neil Gaiman wasnt weird, but awesome. It was at the Edinburgh Book Festival the year The Graveyard Book came out. As you can imagine, huge line of people (including me) waiting for him after his reading. Some people had gifts for him, some had their whole book collection, most just had one or two. The staff were going up and down the line, "he can only sign one item per person!" Then I'm next in line, and someone reiterates to me "one item!" as I step up to the table. Neil said "what's this?" And I stammer & stutter that I was hoping he could also sign my friend's copy of American Gods - I am slow at reading so it had been in my possession for months, so as a way of saying "thank you" had hoped to get it signed too. Neil smiles at me and my mum (who was there as my support, this was only a few weeks after starting treatment for depression) and said "well, you have two books and there are two of you here, so I'm sure it's no problem". And signed both ^_^

When I worked at a grocery store I got to meet John Glenn and his wife. Super sweet and amazing people (RIP). And when I met Rick Nash (pro hockey) as a bank teller I dropped his money all over the floor. That man is breath taking.

My scout troop was always doing charity events (we handled the flag ceremonies and manual labor in full uniform). We got to meet loads of people who were either famous or just rich, but we were never allowed to converse with them. Sometimes though they’d make a point to see us after the fact. I can’t recall specifically who anymore, but I remember they were all very nice to us.

Our daughter and I were walking along Sawtell beach when 2 very cute little dogs came running up to us and jumping up to say hi. The owner came up apologising for their behaviour. It was Jon English!

We saw Farrah Fawcett trying shoes on in a Manhattan store and being the early 80s she was so famous, I knew who she was. We'd just come to the US. Anyway, Ryan O'Neal stood in the doorway so I stood in front of him, asked my mom Who Dis? and she hung her head in shame! He watched me do it, too. I was 10.

I had the honor of meeting Harriet Nelson back in late 80's. Told how in love love i was with her grandsons, Nelson (Hairband). We had a lovely conversation for about an hour. Such a Classy Lady. 😎💞

I used to know Mr. Fuji, who was easily one of the nicest people on the planet. I actually met him when he took my ticket at a mall theater. My girlfriend at the time worked there so I got to know him. His kid was going to college nearby, and he loved the movies, so he just became a ticket taker at a Regal while he was living there. Amazing human being.

If you live in or anywhere near a sizable city, check with your local (i.e., non-chain) bookstore about any upcoming or potential upcoming author events. If they know people are interested, they might just arrange something.
