Found This In House I’m Tearing Apart In A Book Like Someone Wanted To Keep Them Don’t Think It’s Real Money
Answer: Its money from the Philippines when it was occupied by Japan in 1941.
Currency is not worth much unless it is a rare bill where only a limited amount were made (think less than a thousand), even then it needs to be in unfolded pristine condition.
Load More Replies...Curious. Why is it in English if it's the Philippines occupied by Japan? (No judgement or suspicion, just genuinely curious)
Because the Philippines was under the U. S. government when the Japanese invaded just hours after the Pearl Harbor attack.

Found A Rock On The Porch Of My New Home, Flipped It Over And Saw This. Is That A Fossil?

You must be joking...this is a pattern from a modern steel grate. https://cloudfront.zoro.com/product/full/Z2B1Gyfo5oy.JPG
Nope, it's Lepidendron, truly a fossil! Found one of these myself. It's from the Carboniferous era. :) 640px-Lepi...Museum.jpg

I know it really looks like a steel grate imprint, but compare it to this picture. I remember this from my paleontology course.
That's an impression of the trunk of a lepidodendron, a tree-like plant related to ferns, that lived during the carboniferous period.
This should be higher up. :) It's lepidendron, indeed, from the Carboniferous era. Found one of these myself during my paleontology course during my biology undergraduate program. >300 million years old. Truly amazing.

Anyone Know What Those Round Impressions Are Called, And What Are They For ?
Answer: Old windows were made of glass spun out into flatness. That's the center of the spin.
New windows are made of glass floated on a pool of molten tin, which makes very flat panes without any annoying bullseyes.
EDIT: this is also the source of the myth that glass is a liquid and flows over time. See the center pane of your picture? Someone took the time to get a "good" pane for the center of the window, without any bullseye - put your best pane in that spot, obviously. But the glass is still of uneven thickness, getting thicker closer to the bullseye. So people look at panes like that, with thicker glass in one part, and decide that "hey, the glass must have started off perfectly flat and flowed over time". But no. The glass flowed when it was molten (1500 degrees C!) and does not flow at room temperature.
Your explanation seems every bit as feasible to me.
Load More Replies...They are called bull's eyes in the UK and are found in windows hundreds of years old. Windows in the 16th and 17th centuries were very expensive and to make them flat as you would see them in Stately homes was even more expensive. The cheaper version seen here is glass made with out the glazing process of flattening them. You see them still in very old cottages and pubs in England.
I guess the flat one in the middle is of a later date to replace a broken one.
Load More Replies...It's not a myth. When any liquid cools, its initially agitated and disordered molecules end up adopting a crystalline structure, ordered and frozen. But the molecules of glass, however, retain, a completely random structure, characteristic of a liquid.
My uncle is a stained glass historian, artist, and restorer. He says that it true that over time glass will fall to the bottom do to gravity... but this is over decades, even centuries.
Load More Replies...GLASS IS A SUPER-COOLED LIQUIED. It DOES flow over time at room temperature, just so slowly as to not appear to move. If you have the patience, you can put a piece of glass under pressure, and wait a few years (or perhaps decades) and you'll see it flowing. There are some online examples of this. Your EDIT is wrong where you say "myth", because glass actually IS a liquid. Just a very cold one that is so viscous as to be brittle and appear solid.

well if theres some residue ...uhhh nevermind..how much you ant for it?
Load More Replies...It's made of carved ivory and silver and probably a couple of hundred years old. There are people who would pay a lot of money for an artifact like that.
The Opium Wars were two wars in the mid-19th century involving China and the British Empire over the British trade of opium and China's sovereignty. The clashes included the First Opium War (1839–1842) and the Second Opium War (1856–1860). The wars and events between them weakened the Qing dynasty and forced China to trade with the other parts of the world. (Wikipedia) They also forced China to allow England to sell opium to the Chinese. Nice and civilized, right?
The main cause was that Britain introduced China to opium (by lacing food with it) in order to force the Chinese to sell goods that Britain wanted. This caused the Chinese to sell whatever the British wanted, or get more people addicted to it, to get their next hit. So China basically popped a lot of money into buying opium. Also, opium kills people, either by having horrible convulsions from withdrawal, or by absorbing all the nutrients consumed, so the people would starve. And many civilians sold everything they had in order to get more opium, which made them more likely to starve. So opium weakened China, so it was made illegal until Britain forced China to allow people from another country to practice their own law in China. This allowed Britain to keep selling opium. That was an a*****e thing for Britain to do.

It's elephant ivory. Old walrus tusks turn more yellow than brown. The carving is NOT scrimshaw because that would have meant it was done by an American sailor and scrimshaw is generally carved in three dimensions anyway. This is ...///... The silver work is definitely not from North America. The patina is black rather than the greenish bronze characteristic of European or American silver, which often has traces of copper in it. ...///... This is not cast silver, either. Went Exploring In White Sands, New Mexico And Found An... Object. What Is This Thing?
Answer: Looks like it could be titanium - titanium spheres of similar size are a relatively commonly found space debris
Do you want alien face huggers? Cause this is how you get alien face huggers.
It definitely is a tank of some kind, from a spacecraft and these are commonly found as debris, because they almost always survive reentry unscathed. At 18 inches in diameter it's most likely a pressurization and purge tank from a Delta II second stage (see smaller spheres in this picture: Second_sta...20-10C.jpg
). According to the 1967 Outer Space Treaty, international law identifies a reentered spacecraft or portion of a spacecraft as belonging to the state responsible for its original launch, so this is still property of the US Air Force.
Also, forgot to mention that White Sands, New Mexico is home to the White Sands Missile Range where they test all kinds of rockets, so it could be the result of one of those launches.

In Germany we call them "naked snails", it is a common fear to step into them with bare feet. Also they like to munch on your homegrown salads and vegetables.
Haha, my grandma hated them (they ate her salats and vegetables in the garden), but she wanted them to die peacefully, so she put cups filled with beer in the ground. They drank the beer and drowned in it. Other people kill them with salt or cut through them....nasty.
My mother uses beertraps against snails as well. But the neighbours cat is a drunk.

No, the killer snails are brown. The red and black ones are harmless and not and invasive species like the killer snails. Their real name is Iberian Wood snail, they are from Southern Europe and didn't exist in Denmark before the 1990s, when we were "invaded" by them. These red ones are native and good guys :)

Answer: Very early ceiling fan. The rope at the top would be pulled to create the back and forth motion to fan the air and keep flies away from the table during a meal.
This was a standard design used by the colonists in the Indian subcontinent. It was also shown in the movie "The Bridge on the River Kwai" where a Burmese slave had to sit outside in the heat and regularly pull the rope for his "employers" who could dine in peace.
Actually it's called a fly shew. They're really common in plantations here in New Orleans and the surrounding area. They were used to keep the flys away while the homeowner's and guests ate. And sadly yes, they were generally swung by some poor enslaved child. Ceiling fan, while close isn't entirely accurate

Answer: We call them anti-ligature. If the rest of the items in the room aren't also anti-ligature (door knobs, door hinges, tp dispenser, etc) then it doesn't make much sense to have it there. If everything else IS, then you're in a room designed for individuals that are a suicide risk.
I've been sectioned a few times and I've never had coat hooks, just things like windows that slide, press button showers where the water comes out of a hole in the ceiling, stuff like that. They don't tend to take belts or shoelaces as if you find any way of harming yourself despite all the anti ligature stuff and your shaving kit etc. being locked away, you end up on a 24 hour watch anyway. I honestly don't think many people realise how boring mental health units are. No straight jackets, people running about screaming in nightgowns or abusive guards who wear all white and carry round bunches of keys. Apart from sensible harm prevention, most people act exactly how they do at home. We wear our own clothes, muck about on our phones and watch TV.

Load More Replies...Pretty crappy one, at that. The type of el cheapo picks that tend to come with that kind of pick are great big clunky things, they are not much use, luckily in this case. If anyone is concerned about people actually bothering to *pick* their door lock, as opposed to bypassing it in a simpler way, they should ask a locksmith to install security top pins, such as mushroom pins or spool pins. Also have a hardened anti-drill pin as the first top pin, for good measure. This service ought to be comparable in price to a simple rekeying of the lock, since the amount of work is only a little more.

Car Part Found In Bicyclist Hit And Run Fatality Today
Answer: 1988 chevy Silverado headlamp bezel.
People keep asking how I knew this....I've been a Maryland state inspector for a long time, and part of each car and truck inspection up until recently was a mandatory headlamp adjustment....If I had to guess, I'd say someone from the Hoppy brand headlamp aim checker company probably bribed some politicians a long, long time ago, which made it mandatory for each station to buy their equipment to perform inspections....Anyhow, I've done a shit-ton of headlamp adjustments, so right away I knew what that notch in the plastic was for....I first checked 1988 Ram 1500 trucks and by chance, there was a picture of a mid 80's Chevy truck.

Heathrow Airport. Looks Like It Hasn’t Moved In Ages. What Is This Thing?
Answer: For fire training, for the airport fire brigade.
That was much crappier then the ones I practiced in :-D, prob only for pure firedrill without evacuating passengers. I was acting as injured passenger and it was an old, but betterlooking plane with gaspipes all around to light up fire in chosen parts. Was hurled out by the escape slide. Evacuation in a dark, cramped and smoky cabin was far from the nice movies you see on the plane, esp as the firefighters had to carry many if the "injured" actors out. Tough job, all cred to them!

It Is Approx. 3 Meters Long And Open At The End. Found With Some Similar Looking Ones Scattered Around On A Hillside While Hiking. What Is This Thing?
Answer: This device is called Gazex and it's used to start avalanches, so they can control when and where they happen. This avalanche control system uses specially constructedand "exploder" sites and tubes built at key locations in avalanche territory to set off avalanches at controlled times. The exploders literally detonate a mixture of oxygen and propane from the tube structures. The explosive force expelled from the tubes triggers avalanches. The explosive bursts are fueled by gas canisters stored in tanks beneath the exploders on the mountain.
They always looked like they were on something. Now we know they sample their own supply.

What Is This Black Stuff Appearing On The Walls Of My Hostel’s Bathroom? It’s Almost In Every Corner As Well
Answer: Termite infestation.
When I was a kid in NJ, we kept seeing these weird things (ours were usually a brownish color) going across things like the concrete foundation of the house, or areas of the patio. Sometimes we would find them between stones of the patio, going straight up - like the road to nowhere lol - and then they just stopped, these weird, tiny tubes. Nobody knew what they were until my parents called a pest control guy. Termites do this because they cannot be exposed to light. So, if they need to get from one place to another and there is something they can't chew or burrow through in the way, they bring their environment with them by building these tube-like structures through which they can move. The make them out of various things, I suppose whatever is handy - and stick them together with their saliva, one grain-of-sand sized piece at a time.
