Opening politician's financial portfolios would show why many won't take healthcare reform seriously. When you're financially invested to gain from a broken system you really don't want to harm your bottom line.

I had a family member some years ago who thought he was having a heart attack and (yes) drove himself to the hospital. All the tests (ECG,, Bloods etc) - kept overnight, transferred by ambulance the next morning to a cardiac specialist hospital - a week in Cardiac ICU, in case he had a heart attack, while needing to wean of blood thinners for surgery - quadruple bypass - another week in CICU - PT, Nutritionist, etc - discharged home with a home care nurse, cardio gym, nutritionist etc - No health insurance, it cost him $4 per script per month on PBS and that's it.

The really effin sad part is $131k for a whole week in the hospital is pretty damn cheap 😵‍💫

Move to Canada, healthcare's free here!

My dad died a few months ago. Everything was covered by insurance. The funeral was done by family. We paid like $500. He was an abusive crapsack. I don't miss him.

How to tell conservatives vs liberals in America. Hospital bills a patient for $131,000 for a weekend. Not a joke, but a serious political observation: Liberals ask, "why should the patient have to pay so much for a weekend in the hospital?" Conservatives ask, "why should ANYONE have to pay so much for a weekend in the hospital?" See, even if the insurance company pays for it, we still have to pay for the insurance, including a HUGE mark-up. We already HAVE Obamacare. We have insurance that you keep when you leave your job, or you reach 18 or 21 or go to college. But what we also have is a system where the cost constraints of classical economics don't work because someone is always legally obliged to pay the cost no matter how high it is. See, Obamacare wasn't socialism. It was fascism. I don't mean Nazism, but the economic system that Mussolini called the Third Way between capitalism and socialism, where the profit-taking of capitalism combines with the statism of socialism.

Ewww I have a similar story. One time a girl s**t her pants at a party in high school. Her dad came and brought her extra clothes into the bathroom. He came back out with all the shifty clothes in the bag and stood there talking to everyone for like 20 minutes. It smelled terrible and was so odd. All of it. And very gross
