Elton John doesn't get anywhere near the credit he deserves as an all time great. He should be discussed as a Top 5 solo career all time with only Elvis and MJ really being clear cut above him. But no one ever even brings him up in those discussions. I've never seen anyone able to write a coherent and borderline hit level song as quickly as Elton. Give him a sheet of words, they don't even have to be lyrics, and you'll have a hit in 5 minutes. If you don't believe me search "Elton John oven manual song" on YouTube.

Soundtracks from tv show, movies and videogames are as good if not better than original music.

Final Fantasy, Dishonored, Elder Scrolls, Bioshock, Dragon Age, D:BH, Shadow Warrior, Bastion (so incredible!), Brutal Legend, Yakuza... I could go on, but I would like to hear the video game OSTs others enjoy.

You can still be considered a fan if you’ve only listened to one song but still respect the band. It’s so frustrating seeing people call others fake fans for only knowing like 3 songs. It doesn’t matter as long as you enjoy the music

Gatekeeping is just as toxic in the music fan base culture as it is in any other fan base. I don’t need to know everything about someone to enjoy their music. Thanks, though.

Blasting your music makes no sense to me. I hate loud music. Play it at a volume you can hear it at. That’s all you need. Your neighbors don’t need to hear what you’re listening to.

Listening to music in languages you don't understand is far more enjoyable than listening to music in languages you do because you get to enjoy the human presence without having to engage with their problems.

Don't know why, but I cannot understand the words to the vast majority of musical genres, (except for country & western, which I do not like...go figure). Listening to foreign language songs transforms the voices to another instrument whose sound I can enjoy, rather than part of my brain trying to process and understand the words. I really prefer instrumental music because of this.

i listen to a lot of Israeli music. I don't know much hebrew (i can read it when it's written in vowels with about the skill of a 5yo and i won't understand a word. unless it's a prayer, and then i catch a few words) but it's really nostalgic for me because at summer camp we hear that all the time. i think it shows how good a songwriter is if their music is enjoyable without the lyrics.

Sometimes I hear songs in a foreign languaje, even in english (not my first languaje) and enjoy them very much! Until I found that the songs talks about baby unicorns being f***ed by bearded pigs or something like that.

USA here and I have found some awesome music from other countries that were not always in English. One of my favorite rockers were a band out of Denmark in the 70's called "Gasolin'" and I have like every album by them in both Danish and English. Never understood a lot of it but but it still rocked!

Japanese metal comes to mind. Just discovered Ningen Isu "Heartless Scat" a couple months ago. I still have my original vinyl from the early 80's of Loudness before the went mainstream and got an English vocalist. Also... Rammstein!

Ah disagree at the purpose but love the expression and sound of many languages too.It's also a great training for your voice to sing in different languages (pronouncation/ typical vocals and technics like joiking or scatting) I try to find a translation to understand the meaning too

I think that subtracts from the purpose. What good is a message if it only the passion is heard. You wouldn't do the same for a public speech, 'I don't know what that little German with the bad moustache was saying in those black and white films, but he sure seemed passionate about the subject'. Understanding the words are what make the message important, the music is to help you get the message. So agreed. So often when you pay attention to a popular song's lyrics, you find out that it's... crap. generic 'I love you so much and your eyes are beautiful' or 'I want to have sex tonight', and sometimes even less (Hello, Coldplay - one word-songs shouldn't be allowed!!!!!!!!!!1111!!! ) So yes, being able to understand the lyrics is important for me. But there are songs that are so good that I don't mind that I don't understand.

That I never grew out of my edgy phase because I still enjoy punk and alt rock
I grew up in the 2000's so my go-to's are: Green Day, Rise Against, The Offspring, Fall Out Boy, Sum 41, Sick Puppies, Paramore, Thousand Foot Krutch, Tonight Alive, Avenged 7x, Red, and Evanescence. There's more but that's a good list. I also have expanded my tastes, but I will always love punk/rock

Mariah Carey is in fact a musical genius.
What I mean is that for a singer with that kind of voice to have written, co-arranged, and co-produced 95% of her own material is pretty incredible, especially when you take into consideration the way her vocals are layered, her knack for engineering her own vocal climaxes and the way she weaves in different flourishes in each register. Its like she’s paints a canvas with her voice. I simply don't hear as many artists fill an entire song with a range of vocalizations the way she does despite the trashy diva image which I suppose turns most people off.

I'm so f!@#$%g tired of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. They play on every radio station from classic rock to contemporary to weird alternative stations. I can't escape them, and all of their songs sound the same, and I've heard every one a thousand times, I'm just sick of them.

Kpop as a genre demands intense amounts of talent. You can watch one of their live performances and it would be clear. That being said, i despise the industry and how it treats its artists.

You don't need to be an amazing singer to be a worthwhile, talented artist. Taylor Swift can carry a tune but she isn't incredible, yet she really puts on a show and is a great songwriter. I don't really care if an artist autotunes or edits the sound of their voice, especially if it works with the song. Can't sing or play instruments but youve got Garageband and Autotune DOWN? Cool. You can still make good music in my eyes.

I never got the hype for 'Stairway to Heaven' being some all-time great song. It's a good song but that's about as far as I'd go with it.

As with all Zeppelin songs, it's about all aspects of the composition, music vocal and lyrics. Part of you opinion may be the overplay. Try the song performed by Heart. Both Bonams and Paige are amazing. Sorry, have to agree to disagree.

The first Limp Bizkit album wasn't bad. S#$t went downhill fairly quick after that. Same goes for Kid Rock.

Huey Lewis and the News. Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.
In '87, Huey released this; Fore!, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip To Be Square". A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the band itself.

Jazz is s#$t. It's a group of alleged musicians playing different tunes at the same time. Jazz aficionados that try and claim there's some sort of genius to making a god awful racket talk more s#$%e than wine experts.

Music piracy made music better.
Money as a motivation to make music was basically removed from the equation. Nowadays, the people who make music do so mostly because they're artists. Loads of musicians these days are compelled to create to express themselves, because making music is in their soul, not to pander to an audience and make cash.
Obviously this doesn't apply to mainstream music. Luckily for all of us with Spotify, it's now super easy to ignore trashy mainstream nonsense, dig deep and find some real gems.

My unpopular opinion is: sometimes the worst f!@#$%g people make great art, and there's nothing wrong with finding things that appeal to you in the worst people's music (or painting or film). I won't judge you if you like Mayhem after the Dead drama, or Burzum after all the everything that is wrong with that f@#$%^g awful dude who does Burzum.

Modern metal is better than classic. Lots of that is due to better recording technology, I will admit. But also, having decades of other artists to be inspired by means that we get all these awesome fusions of styles, and I f!@#$%g love it. I respect the trailblazers, but the stuff coming out today is better fleshed out, on average.

Listening to a full album is always a tiresome and unnecessary endeavour. Just pick out 1-2 songs you like and only listen to those. I don't give a damn about the "intended experience".

They were the first true rock *band.* Elvis, Buddy Holly, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, etc, were stars, of course, but the emphasis was on their voice, not the music. With the Beatles it was a collective effort that produced hundreds of great, original, catchy songs.

Most of these are not unpopular to anyone who knows the basic things about music, though. Unpopular would be saying that David Gilmour ruined Pink Floyd, or that Wings is way more interesting as a band than The Beatles got to be. Or that ACDC died with Bon Scott and Brian Johnson's voice is fkcn annoying and a disgrace to the legacy of Scott. Unpopular is aknowledging Courtney Love is just as or maybe more talented than Kurt Cobain was; or that Kim Deal was the only talented musician of The Pixies. Or how The Clash sold out and became a pop band after the 70s... Or the fact that Amy Winehouse was just another junkie who could sing, though not as well as everyone likes to think. In that same genre, Beth Hart kicks the living shït out of her, as do many others.

More unpopular than you think: Let people enjoy their music (as long as it doesn't, like, promote murder or they're little kids). I don't like kpop. Lots of people do. Metal/rock makes me feel like someone is sawing my head in two. A lot of people like those genres (and I might too, if it wasn't for my sensory issues). Music isn't automatically bad just because teenagers like it, and even if it DOES suck, what's the harm on letting them enjoy things?

Christmas music is the worst. Honestly, I hate it and it makes me want to listen to nails on a chalkboard FOR RELIEF. I have only ever liked God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, and I'm not even religious, it's just the least terrible one I've heard. Even then, I only like the slowed versions.

Not really unpopular but anyway: I miss the time where music videos where treated like little pieces of art. Nowadays I feel like a lot off people design them to press emotional buttons and to earn more money or they simply don't exist. Also: why has such a big part of Radio Songs to be about love? Like, I get that its a beautiful thing to weite about but there are sooo many other human emotions and stories who deserve to be told.

Unpopular Opinion (I think, please correct me if I'm wrong): David Bowie-inspired a LOT of artists, such as Annie Lennox, Supergrass, and others. Even some artists have Bowie influences in their songs. I personally LOVE David Bowie, and after listening to him for a long time, I can hear some songs that have gotten inspired by him.

Hardly any. Technology has really ruined musicianship. Many rap artists use keyboards in the studio, but most can't really play. Maybe couple of chords - which they typically don't even know the name of. They mostly just press keys to make sounds or noises. Being a skilled, practiced musician is no longer required to record music today. You can even be a terrible singer - that can also be fixed with technology

Some of these were amusing, I kinda wish there were some more specific unpopular opinions though. Mine would be that Country music doesn't quite exist as it once did. Not that I enjoy it, but the older generation of the genre had more sense of identity and as opposed to what we have now. Doesn't help my workplace has pop country and other crap pop on all the time.

Lynyrd Skynyrd worst song ever "Sweet Home Alabama and Free bird" sick of those songs. Some artist get into "fights" for publicity. I don't think Katy Perry and Taylor Swift ever hated each other. Because if they did they should have had a knock down drag out fight at least once it was all publicity never face to face so when they made nice everyone was like ahh and they both were laughing to the bank with all the downloads adding up. Country isn't about country life now they are all people that have never lived outside a city and can't make it in other genres. Unpopular Opinion: Music doesn't need complicated chords, solos that push the instruments to their limits, or fancy timing to be "good". Some of the absolute best songs are just the I, IV, and V chords in 4/4. Engaging music is about sharing an emotion, not demonstrating that you're a virtuoso.

Unpopular is aknowledging Courtney Love is just as or maybe more talented than Kurt Cobain was; or that Kim Deal was the only talented musician of The Pixies. Or how The Clash sold out and became a pop band after the 70s... Or the fact that Amy Winehouse was just another junkie who could sing, though not as well as everyone likes to think. In that same genre, Beth Hart kicks the living shït out of her, as do many others.

omg, thank you. Why must so much of rap and hip hop be about sex, drugs, violence and such? I understand there's a genre of people who enjoy this and I don't have to listen to it if I don't want to, unless the person sitting at the red light next to me is blasting his music...but still, I just don't get it.

More unpopular than you think: Let people enjoy their music (as long as it doesn't, like, promote murder or they're little kids). I don't like kpop. Lots of people do. Metal/rock makes me feel like someone is sawing my head in two. A lot of people like those genres (and I might too, if it wasn't for my sensory issues). Music isn't automatically bad just because teenagers like it, and even if it DOES suck, what's the harm on letting them enjoy things?

Christmas music is the worst. Honestly, I hate it and it makes me want to listen to nails on a chalkboard FOR RELIEF. I have only ever liked God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, and I'm not even religious, it's just the least terrible one I've heard. Even then, I only like the slowed versions.

I think Adele may be a very nice woman. That being said, I don't like her music. Every song is I love you, we're breaking up, I'm sorry we broke up, I want you to come back etc.. it sounds a bit boring and the same over and over .

Not really unpopular but anyway: I miss the time where music videos where treated like little pieces of art. Nowadays I feel like a lot off people design them to press emotional buttons and to earn more money or they simply don't exist. Also: why has such a big part of Radio Songs to be about love? Like, I get that its a beautiful thing to weite about but there are sooo many other human emotions and stories who deserve to be told.

Unpopular Opinion (I think, please correct me if I'm wrong): David Bowie-inspired a LOT of artists, such as Annie Lennox, Supergrass, and others. Even some artists have Bowie influences in their songs. I personally LOVE David Bowie, and after listening to him for a long time, I can hear some songs that have gotten inspired by him.

Hardly any. Technology has really ruined musicianship. Many rap artists use keyboards in the studio, but most can't really play. Maybe couple of chords - which they typically don't even know the name of. They mostly just press keys to make sounds or noises. Being a skilled, practiced musician is no longer required to record music today. You can even be a terrible singer - that can also be fixed with technology

Some of these were amusing, I kinda wish there were some more specific unpopular opinions though. Mine would be that Country music doesn't quite exist as it once did. Not that I enjoy it, but the older generation of the genre had more sense of identity and as opposed to what we have now. Doesn't help my workplace has pop country and other crap pop on all the time.

Lynyrd Skynyrd worst song ever "Sweet Home Alabama and Free bird" sick of those songs. Some artist get into "fights" for publicity. I don't think Katy Perry and Taylor Swift ever hated each other. Because if they did they should have had a knock down drag out fight at least once it was all publicity never face to face so when they made nice everyone was like ahh and they both were laughing to the bank with all the downloads adding up. Country isn't about country life now they are all people that have never lived outside a city and can't make it in other genres. Unpopular Opinion: Music doesn't need complicated chords, solos that push the instruments to their limits, or fancy timing to be "good". Some of the absolute best songs are just the I, IV, and V chords in 4/4. Engaging music is about sharing an emotion, not demonstrating that you're a virtuoso.

A lot.of these were very stupid. Mainstream artists are not as different as old school artists, only the industry is more competitive. Albums are arranged in an order for a reason. they are like an opera, they are supposed to tell a story.
