Dreams are an incredibly rich source of inspiration for many artists, conjuring up seemingly random and often bizarre images from deep inside our subconscious. These stories and images tell stories about the artist in a raw and unfiltered way, giving us a peek into their hopes and aspirations, as well as their darkest fears and insecurities.
The challenge of transferring the fleeting, often intangible quality of dreams onto paper must be quite appealing to the adventurous artist. We often wake up with only vague recollections of our dreams, teasingly intriguing snippets of what was a grand production inside of our creative minds. Do you often remember your dreams? How would you interpret them on paper? Scroll down to see these visual representations of different artists' dreams, in a list compiled by Bored Panda and get inspired to dream!

I Had A Dream About Tropical, Waterproof Sheep. I Decided To Paint It
They're special sheep that can be submerged in salty ocean water and only have the very outer layer of their wool get wet or something, I just remember that they were "waterproof" from my dream
I thought sheep ARE waterproof? They have coating on their wool that repels water.
maybe if you counted sheep to fall asleep the thought of sheep stilled stayed? or u want a farm
you would be an excellent illustrator for children's book no doubt check it out ok?
I think it represents however sad and hard the condition is going to be; you will not lose the track of your dreams and you will always remember what you promised to yourself and to other people
Everyone dreams, on average around two hours per night, even people who claim not to. Instead of a single dream, people usually have several short dreams every night, with each one usually lasting only between five to 20 minutes.
This Little Guy Came To Me In A Dream So I Drew Him
In my dream, these three little kittens come outta nowhere to my living room and start just doing kitten stuff. Kittens are always in my dreams, but they usually look normal. This time one looked like this. I call him Darth Kittyus. The second one was kinda crystalline, and I don't remember the third one, but it was weird too. Then this big army of people started trying to bust down my door. I think that was about it
Be careful. People/things trying to come through a door represents something trying to force it's way into your life and invade. I've had dreams like that many times. As for the cats; don't trust innocent-looking things. If they're followed by chaos or danger, next time you see them, get them out of there. Be careful what you let into your life and mind. Judge things not by appearance but by the effects they have. I hope that makes sense.
Kittens are about the child within. Are you hiding something about your inner child with a mask? Or maybe your inner child is just a bit weird. But since you also talked about people trying to break down your door this is about your inner child's resistance to something. Maybe there is something that you want to keep hidden but other people keep pushing your buttons and it makes you feel threatened and defensive. Often we have to remind our inner child that you are safe, that you are good, and that you've got this. I wonder if you were often told you were bad when you were a kid. (Darth Vader was the bad guy) Or maybe you just have a love for star wars and your inner child adores the thought of Darth Kittyus.
He looks like the album art of some mediocre 80s rock band that literally nobody remembers.
The reason that most people claim not to dream is that more that 90% of all dreams are forgotten almost instantly after waking. But why? Dreaming occurs during Rapid-Eye Movement (REM) Sleep, if there is a transition from REM to another sleep stage before waking, the dream will usually disappear before you even knew it was there.
Even if you wake during REM sleep, the chemical processes that cause dreams quickly dissipate and the feeling that you were so caught up in quickly fades. Certain triggers throughout the day can cause a recollection of the dream however, for example if you have an experience that reactivates the same area of the brain that created the dream overnight.
I Saw This Creature In My Dream
She told me that death is not one person, it's many conductors
Well, when a person dies, many of those around dies a little bit inside. Some bits never recover. This character may represent the additional parts that died with the one person.
This kind of looks similar to kali, the hindu goddess, what with the four arms and the two sets of eyes. I had to look it up, but she's known as "She Who is Death". Interpret that how you will, i just had to add some information.
Actually many gods can take this form, sometimes it goes way beyond 4 arms and eyes. And sometimes you can add a few faces haha Also Kali is perceived as a god of death from a destruction perspective, not from caring and accompagning the dead trough the path of death
Load More Replies...A fear not just of death, but the loss of freedom as you get older and a fear of the dying process. The fact that the creature tells you this indicates your desire to cope with aging in an intelligent and mature way.
I read somewhere that our mind can't make faces up for dreams, but every "unknown" face in a dream is a person we at least saw on the streets somewhen, but just can't actively remember. How is that supposed to be true for this face here?
Maybe it's a combination of faces or something like that
Load More Replies...I believe that. Death comes to each person in its own way, and I believe how and when is only determined by God. I don't believe there is a grim reaper.
Wow... this is a really good piece of art but it's sort of strange how you are able to see this so clearly in your dreams and remember exactly what she said. I've never heard of anything like this before and it's cool but also a little creepy, like some physic message.
I Dreamt That Robert De Niro Was Posing For A Model Drawing Class
He had a monobrow and a female body and was dressed as a Playboy bunny while holding the upcoming Tool album
I have an even weirder one- I got kidnapped by a gang of shower heads. Like, shower shower heads. They have round brushes that swivelled around for feet. My brain is messed up.
Robert De Niro the consummate tough guy (metaphor for the unapproachable masculine icon) Playboy bunny is a metaphor for unapproachable sexual fulfillment. A model is something you can see, but cannot interact with. The latest Tool album could be a connection or a metaphor for yourself. If you are a man (the sex of the viewer is not listed then, perhaps you have an idealized view of masculinity and sexuality that you feel you can never achieve. If you are a woman it could be a conflict between your feeling of hyper masculinity (big tough guys can be both attractive and intimidating) and your own feelings of female vulnerability.
My mom always has such dreams where some celebrity is doing something funny..
I've read that he's rather unapproachable so modelling in front of a class with no interaction makes sense. Lol. I think the dream means that the dreamer has an important decision to make in the near future and how the dreamer felt towards the model shows which way they are leaning. If they were nonchalant towards the bunny suit etc it shows they have considered each aspect and are comfortable with the choice. If they felt weirded out by the cd/unibrow etc then perhaps they need to do a little more research or soul searching before finalizing a decision
A researcher called Calvin S. Hall spent decades studying dreams, collecting over 50,000 dream accounts from college students.
He found that dreams evoke many emotions, but most of them tended to be more on the negative side. The most common emotion experienced in dreams was anxiety. It is not known why we tend to have more negative emotions in dreams than positive ones.

For Six Years Now This Dream Has Been Recurring Every Couple Months. So Far I Have Drawn 32 Illustrations From It
I have had a recurring dream for 6 years now of a hidden tribe in a jungle. They share the valley they inhabit with a creature that can take their souls and allow them to be reborn in whatever next body they want and they retain all their previous memories. This tribe has lived for thousands of years, protecting this creature from outsiders. Some of them will be reborn as animals too (and retain all human memories) to preserve the valley in other ways
It sounds like a yearning of yours, to protect family and community, and even more specifically culture and tradition. It sounds ds like you yearn for freedom to do that, and for that community/culture you hold so dear to be kept apart and safe from the influences and schemes of those outside who would try to change and control it. At the very least, I think you need to write a fantasy novel.
Is it possible that you were once part of that tribe, but remembered late?
again, no interpretation, just admiring a truly gifted artist. this is beautiful...
This would be a beautiful story. It could be a series. I'd read/watch
I Keep Dreaming I'm Buried And Becoming A Red Tree
That's the interesting thing about my dreams lately - I'm in full astronaut gear, even in situations where it would be bizarre to find someone wearing it
To dream of being buried alive may represent feelings of being trapped in a permanent dead end situation. Trees in dreams symbolize our desires and hopes. Make of this what you will ❤
Or! you read about the tree pod burial things.
Load More Replies...I can't exactly say what I think it means but this gives me a sense of hope and a new rebirth. It's very bittersweet, I would say. It's just so beautiful though.
Being in the astronaut suit probably means you feel isolated. Being buried shows that you feel trapped, but the tree could represent finding a new way of living where you don't feel trapped or isolated.
I think this could mean that you feel like a fish out of water in your own life and it's slowly burying you. The tree is your hope to have light at the end of the tunnel and come out how you wish you were on the other side, if only you could let go of what holds you back. (this is based solely on the picture and explanation. It is not, by any means, a judgement of any kind)
Being buried suggests feelings of being confined, trapped in an inescapable life situation. Trees suggest a desire to be reborn anew, they are often seen as symbols of growth and harmony. Perhaps you feel trapped and want to escape to a better life.
i saw this as listening to "forest" by SOAD and was deeply moved
There are some common dreams that we all have, regardless of who we are or where we are from. While obviously, most of our dreams result from our own experiences, some themes unite us all, like being chased, being attacked, or falling (those negative emotions again). Other universal dreams include being stuck and unable to move, arriving late, flying, and being naked in public.
I Painted A Dream. What Do You Think This Means?
I had this dream where I was riding around on a shark and "mining" the babies from the rocks. It was in World of Warcraft graphics, and I was mining like in the game. The babies were just growing out of the rocks. They ranged from normal sized babies to some very huge ones floating on stones everywhere. I went down into the water as well and mined some of the babies down there too. It was a very confusing experience
This could mean the desire to have a baby, or perhaps take you life in a new direction (babies = metaphor for new birth in any of a number of ways). The sharks represent the fear of doing so. Perhaps the dream is a metaphor for a desire to complete an unfulfilled ambition but you are afraid.
Another take on Baby dreams as well as Bride dreams: has nothing to do with wanting a child or getting married; they are new beginnings. So something new is happening or one may want to start something new in their life.
Load More Replies...I think you were listening to baby shark before you went to sleep and your mind decided to create a world with babies and sharks
Babies represent new beginnings, the shark signifies your power, or your strength and since you are riding the shark collecting babies I would say you have lots of opportunities around you for new beginnings and you just have to use your personal power to collect them. Water in dreams is emotion. So maybe some of these are emotional new beginnings.
Babies could mean projects you want to do. They don't have to represent literal babies. Everything in dreams is symbolic.
...I don't know what to mine for I'll mine this anyway...

This image seems similar to the dream that you are being chased but cannot go anywhere. A horse is a symbol for physical stamina and power. Banana legs mean that you do not have the ability to move forward in life.
This means you want a pony, but you cant have one because you are low on potassium.
Fear of losing control(over legs?) A horse is usually a symbol for physical power. Bananas are idiosynractic, specific smell and are known to bruise easily. Afraid of broken legs or arms? Recent accidents?
I'm sorry, but I had to laugh when I saw this one! . . Do you remember that song about not riding the white horse? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwATF5dnfq4 Clearly, that song is about drugs. If you're as old as I am, you probably remember that people claimed in the 1960s that smoking banana peels made people high. Combine that all together, and you get some sort of message about seemingly-strong drugs which are really not gonna make you high ........ maybe.
This Was My Dream
My thoughts exactly! Beautiful trip/dream though.
Load More Replies...does anyone else have entire dreamscapes of these where you just wander until you wake up
It’s uncertain whether animals dream, but “it seems very likely,” Hugo Spiers, an experimental psychologist at University College London, told National Geographic. We've all seen and heard a dog seemingly having a great time while sleeping, wagging its tail and trying to run with its legs in the air. Just like us, animals have sleep stages that include cycles of REM and non-REM sleep, so it's definitely likely that your pup is indeed dreaming of frisbees in the park and endless butts to sniff.
Illustrated My Dream
Although I definitely hear things during dreams, the thing I always remember about them the most is the feeling. The intense emotions and feelings kind of overpower anything audible, like hearing isn't even necessary. But with this drawing specifically, I don't recall any noises. It was a powerful and looming silence, an intense dread permeated the atmosphere
From my earliest of memories, I too don't hear anything in my dreams. And I don't see any faces either. In fact I only FEEL physical sensations in my dreams. 🤷♀️
You can feel things in your dreams too? I can hear and see faces and even see in color, but the images are usually blurry only a few times have they been very clear like reality. But the thing I notice the most now is I can feel things; the feeling of being submersed in water, of cloth on my skin, even the feeling of flying :D , but more terrifyingly i can even feel in my nightmares. Like being struck by lightning and feeling excruciating pain (no where near an electrical outlet or anything when i woke up either). What i truly wanted to say though is I didnt realize there were others who could too. But then again I didnt know some people dream in black and white until recently too

I had a dream and then decided to paint it. It's lots of pigs screaming and wanting to escape a tower in which they're kept
I thought it looked like an octopus tentacle at first lol

I Drew A Picture Of My Nightmare
Before anyone says anything, I haven’t watched the Babadook recently. I know it looks like him. This was a particularly terrifying nightmare that I woke up from in a cold sweat. In my dream, I was laying in my bed trying to sleep, and when I opened my eyes The Dagman (somehow I just knew that was his name) was standing in my doorway staring right into my soul. Needless to say, I freaked out and somehow managed to escape my room but no matter where I went he would always be creeping on me in the doorways
Man I am highly against viewing & reading the images right before bed...I don't think I'm going to sleep tonight after this! :-/
Well, if you dream of anything weird, don't forget to make it into artwork! :)
Load More Replies...Perhaps your subconscious has clung onto the metaphor of the babadook and you need to also make friends with and nurture your own inner demon? Also, if this is a real entity don't deny or acknowledge it, just accept it and carry on.
I've met him. His name is Bux, he lives in the other dimension and terrorizes kids. Boogie men are harmless though.
I know you say you haven't but the similarities are too undeniable https://waxworkrecords.com/collections/vinyl/products/the-babadook
My sister saw someone like him crawl out of her bedroom floor. She was awake.
I had a similar dream, but it was just a sensation of something chasing me, not a real face. Kind of like the build up in the Babadook.
Painting Of A Very Vivid Dream I Had In 2014
It actually started quite sadly. I dreamt that my boyfriend died - I was standing at a beach, crying my eyes out, and suddenly the sky kind of opened and revealed this scenery. It was the most breathtaking picture I've ever seen, and the only fitting words to describe it with are either Eden, paradise or heaven. It was crazy how real it felt. By looking at this, I knew he was safe and in peace. I woke up and started crying immediately after opening my eyes and had to make a quick sketch. It was the most powerful and vivid dream I've had so far
Oh!! I have had a very similar experience a few times. I was just standing at some kind of sunny meadow and suddenly saw light, felt warmth and had the experience of feeling an absolute oneness with everything, I felt like I knew everything (not in a "teacher, I know this!" but in a "I have become aware of how everything is", factual, serene way). I vividly remember a math problem just making total sense. But the most amazing was the feeling of absolute comfort, of all encompassing love. I have had dreams with an "everything is ok now"-feeling after different persons died, too. I felt like I knew they were ok and everything between us was ok, too. But that first dream was something else, it was like a glimpse into a different reality. I love my dreams.
I call this a celestial dream. I've have several over a long stretch of time that I remembered upon waking up.
This art... wow. It's a masterpiece. And that is such a heartwarming story even though it's in a dream. Even though I don't have many dreams and I usually can't remember them, I do believe that dreams can have deep meanings and very powerful messages, as I think is here. And I agree there are no other words to describe it, it's just heavenly.
Does this even KIND OF remind anyone of Colton Burpo's description of heaven? "Yeah dad. Thats where all the rainbow colors are.". The drawing definitely has lots of colors. And is it a coincidence that the SKY opened up? Come on guys. Am I seriously the first to think this?
reminds me of a story i wrote back when i had my sanity, it was pretty sad but beautiful

I Have Been Drawing A Recurring Dream Of 8 Years. I Feel My Images Would Fit In Here. This Is One Of Them
These dreams started to reoccur a week after the death of my brother. This drawing is based on the part of an idea where a tribal elder was telling his tribe about a prophecy he had of a green, pale-skinned man coming across the seas full of self-importance and malice. He would devour all of the life of the forest peoples and then vomit it back up mixing his culture of evil into their culture, changing it forever
A green pale skinned man could be a metaphor for death (i.e. the Bible's book oif Revelation says Death Rides a Pale Horse) This shows an obvious feeling of intrusion. The death of your brother perhaps led you to fear for your own mortality and the pain you suffered when death took your brother from you.
That's interesting that you should point out that Revelations says Death Rides a Pale Horse. The Aztecs believed that Quetzalcoatl would appear to them as a pale creature with two heads. When Cortez arrived, he came to them riding a white horse. The Aztecs thought he was Quetzalcoatl, the bringer of death. He turned out to be just that. The picture above reminds me of Aztec art. Funny how that seemed to come full circle.
Load More Replies...U should write the entire dream with you illustrations in a book. You have talent, I think it would be an interesting read as well as visually appealing.
You had a colorblind dream. The pale-skinned man was actually supposed to be orange and...well...the rest is self-fulfilling.
sounds like the profecy that the aztecs follow, i from mexico and history indigenous people have said a tribe leader said a blonde man will arrive, Spaniards (europeans) arrive and that's why Aztecs weren't hostile to them, because a spiritual leader spoke to them about it before. we know what happened after that.
My interpretation: Sounds like you're describing the 'white man' destroying the americas/africa. Your brother must've been extremely important to you.
Yes. The terrible Self-righteous Christian European bringing "civilization" to the "barbarians".

For My Concentration I’ve Chosen To Illustrate My Dreams. Here’s What I’ve Got So Far
I’m a high school student in AP Studio Art. I’m also an extremely active, and often lucid dreamer. For my concentration (theme) I’ve chosen to illustrate my dreams. My first one definitely wasn’t my best. It’s me hiding while some kind of entity is coming through the door. The second dream is recurring for me. I often dream of huge waves and flooding water and being caught in it. Not in a scary way, in a relaxing way. And the third one - I had that dream after falling asleep watching Cosmos, actually. It was so mesmerizing watching all the colorful explosions in the sky
Flowing water could indicate the generally ebb and flow of our day to day existence. The Cosmos could indicate our feelings about the future. The sense of calm and wonder could indicate a feeling of being in control and comfortable with your life. The wonder of explosions of the Cosmos could indicate a sense of wonder and excitement about your future. I hope I am right on this one.
This is ironic bc I'm literally procrastinating doing my AP Art homework by reading this article 😭I think my concentration is going to be disability, but I'm not sure yet
That third one in particular is brilliant! I really like the exaggerated perspective.
I Saw This Right Before Waking Up After A Nap On My Couch The Other Day
It was a familiar face, but I knew it was only a disguise hiding whatever it really was. It felt evil. Like it wanted something from me and was trying to trick me. I wasn't scared of it, but aware of its deceptive nature
It could also be telling you to be aware of people around you who may appear nice etc but are actually deceptive and manipulative under the mask
I have had a similar dream, except it had long sharp teeth on the face.
Maybe it represents someone in your life. Possibly a significant other, or maybe a coworker who might be trying to decieve you or take advantage of you.
Man With Feet As Hands Came Back To My Dream Again
I am absolutely terrified of him, both times I woke up in cold sweat. He isn’t actually threatening though, he is just inconsolable (and slightly abrupt when he speaks). It also felt threatening that he kept giving me his footfoot instead of his handfoot when I was trying to comfort him (he sits behind me while crying), but he doesn’t actually do anything that motivates that. I was also sure he was going to hunt me and hurt me in the first dream, and I ran from him, but he did say that he wasn’t going after me, and I never saw him running

Say Hi To This Unsettling Little Fella Who Popped Up In My Dreams Last Night
I don't remember the whole dream I had, but it played out like that pretty common horror movie scene where the family calls in a medium to check out the weird activity in the house, and the medium is walking around like "hmm, yes, I sense a dark energy here, particularly in this room." The dream was basically that, but the "camera" was looking down a hallway, 1st person perspective, and something pushed past the people standing in the hall, and the "camera" cut to face the people, and this creepy figure, about the size of a 10-year-old child, was standing in the shadows

Have You Ever Looked At Your Hands In A Dream?
I find my depiction to be the case when I'm lucid in dreams. I'm not sure if I can recall ever noticing my hands otherwise, in normal dream states
I always make an attempt in my dreams to read something.. the letters are always jumbled.
I used to try experimenting in my dreams. I opened and read a big green book, but the letters squirmed around and I interpreted the words “Behind you” and “Run”. (At the time, I was in my kitchen baking with my mother, and reading on the countertop) I looked around as my mom turned her back to me, working on the stove, and as I looked behind me I saw a tall black figure. I got up and ran to my mom, but the black figure caught my leg an inch away from her. I tried to scream but the world was silent. The black thing devoured me and walked away, as my mom turned to look at me. Missing, she couldn’t see my ghost. I tried everything but she didn’t know I was there… soon it all faded to black…

Three obvious images. The Devil a symbol of a mysterious and unknowable evil. A chessboard could be a symbol of feelings of being manipulated i.e. We are just pawns in the game of life. Where i was meet with noone. It suddenly turned into an abandoned hospital hallway. With big steel metal doors with dirty port hole glass to look in. Peeking inside looked like operating rooms. It was dim, maybe damp and moldy. While peeking in i saw babies hug upside down from hooks, some on metal tables., Some dissected. Some with green ooze flowing out. It was weird.. Then i ran back to the escalator. And was back in a brightly lit mall with lots of people walking around. But looking up you can still see the dark 3rd floor with a sort of ominous cloud. As if light was being sucked in.. ..
Once I had a dream that everyone but me was a solar-powered robot, and they would behave normally during the day, but when the sun set they would act all lethargic and they would start acting really weird, almost like they were extremely drunk. Later I found out that there was an organization of normal people like me who were trying to fix them. Pretty sure the government caught them not behaving weirdly one night and although I woke up before anything happened, I’m pretty sure they were all killed and their bodies were used to make new robots.
I had a dream that Hillary Clinton could barely walk because she has too many nipples keeping her balance off kilter
What. The. HELL. What the hell goes on in that tiny mind of yours???
Load More Replies...IKR. My dreams are going to be like this.
Load More Replies...It's funny reading commenters interpretations. I feel that it reveals more about the interpreter than the dreamer.
"Dreams are the answers to questions we haven't yet figured out how to ask." So...the question here is... ???sheep???
Last night I saw a dream that it's already weekend and I don't have to go to work. When my alarm waked me up I knew it will be a bad day.
I had a dream last night where on one side of a US dollar was US money and on the other was canadian money. I was rich in canadian and US money. Anyone know what that means?
