We usually expect things to go the worst possible way—whether it’s failing that crucial exam you need to get into uni, or getting painfully rejected by your best friend who you’ve been in love with since childhood. There’s something liberating about expecting the most dreadful scenario, but nothing feels better than when it turns out the opposite.

Luckily, the internet is a magical place and there’s a little corner for everything: the bad and the impossibly good. Like this community on Reddit, r/UnexpectedlyWholesome, which has been sharing incidents and cases that took a U-turn for the wholesome for the past three years since its launch on February 19, 2017.

From a boyfriend praying on Twitter for his girlfriend’s period to come today, to a landlord who said no pets allowed in the property, some things are made to have exceptions and the most wholesome outcomes. No spoilers, but who doesn’t love happily-ever-after endings?

We stan the gays. Also, to those bigoted homophobes commenting, shut the f*ck up. Just because you're religious doesn't mean you can force it onto everyone else. If you don't have anything kind to say, then don't say anything at all.

Yes up to a certain boundary. If his income and the roof over his head depended on it, especially if he has kids, he should definitely buy the laptop... There's always cases, there's always limits. That said I was in exact same situation (lurcher grabbed by spine but far from head so couldn't shake-to-break in 4-5sec, bad pneumothorax) with a similar cost for pulling a 4m old cat through the next 12h, "but he'll probably die the week after from infections, if not he'll probably require skin grafts for $$$"... 1week later he was fine, 10y later he's still here, insured & quieter.

I'm more upset they were going to put the cat down in the first place, imagine if that poor cat's soul wasn't able to crawl onto owner's lap.. that's sad. And I know money can be a problem but they clearly had the money, big shame on owner imo :/ could go on about this all day fking hate people that have pets and don't give them the love and care they deserve, pets give unconditional love and what do some of these prks give back?

I had a dog. When she was old, her health problems started. Diagnosis took ages. Turned out she had pancreatitis. And she was diagnosed with diabetes. We did not even count how much money it costed. And how many sleepless nights when I was sitting with her on the floor of the vet clinic, holding her drip. The vet told us that after diabetes diagnosis, she would live only 6 months more. It was not true. She lived 3 years more. I would do anything possible to save my pet.

@Ola Polowczyk Me & my ex-husband did the same 12 year's ago! Our cat baby Cassie Jo was diagnosed with kidney disease & they gave her less then a week, well it happens her mama was also just diagnosed with kidney disease a year prior so we asked if we could give her daily dialysis like me & they said it won't do any good & its so expensive, we gave her dialysis every nite & got a routine down & my beautiful baby lived 5 more year's with me, worth every penny she was! And I finally got a kidney transplant 6 year's ago & my baby Cassie Jo still is my forever guardian cat angel looking after me & her two baby sister's!

Downvoted. The OP had the money, but wasn't going to use it on his injured pet if the cat hadn't crawled into his lap? Who even doesn't put your badly injured cat in a box or cat carrier? Who even needs a sad little lick to save a life?

My sister's cat was incredibly sick and the vet bill was going to cost her $2,500 for the surgery. Everyone told my sister to put him down and that she would be crazy to spend that kind of money on a cat. My sister was going through a real hard time when it happened so when she called me crying I told her I would split the cost with her because it wasn't spending thousands of dollars on a cat, it was spending thousands of dollars on her to have her best friend with her during her time of need.

It feels like we’re living in a drought of good news. The past year hasn’t been an easy one and the general emotional state of people around the globe is not the best one. And how could it be otherwise with what we’ve all been dealing with lately?

But it turns out that feel-good news like this wholesome post can bring much-needed health benefits, especially in times of crisis. One study from Brigham Young University proved that sharing positive experiences, events, and stories has immense perks. The researchers invited participants to keep a journal of grateful experiences over four weeks, and share them with a partner twice a week. Those partners who received good news reported being in a better mood overall.

I might be generalizing here, but bikers are generally very kind, loyal and good people. Sure, they look tough, but a lot of them are just big teddy bears with hearts of gold. I grew up with them, felt very protected and loved. In here they do a lot of charity work and helping people out. Like big, handsome, bearded knights on metal steeds. I love them.

I have a friend with a stutter, and we have a laugh about it. We've known each other for 20 years+ and are best buds. Someone once made a cruel joke about it to his face, and he said very clearly "The only person allowed to take the piss out of my stutter is my mate here. Not only has he earned that right, but he also does it better!" I looked at him with a look of surprise and shock and said "F**king hell! You didn't even stutter once" I then nodded with smug sarcastic approval while clapping. He looked back at them and said "See? Now piss off you amateur!" In case you are wondering, he is a DJ, and he runs his own Reprographics company.

Yes. Why is it that as I read the story, my first thought was, "Why was she chasing after a garbage man?" Why is that surprising? I'm sure many garbage men are great husbands. And I'm told they make good money, because, nobody wants to be a garbage man for the pleasant working conditions or job satisfaction.

i had just come out. i had never had a boyfriend, and when i met my future (late) husband, i was so worried i'd do or say something wrong...we were walking in downtown montreal...and i put my arm through his...he said "oh, hell, we can't do that here..."and i pulled away, mortified that i might have made him angry...one week later, we were walking in the same spot. and he stops dead...he takes my arm and loops it into his. When i told him that we can't do that...he looks at me, grabbed me and dipped me and gave me the biggest kiss...a week after that, we were in Lafontaine park...he stopped dead, told me he needed me to sit, and said that he had something to tell me...this is it, i thought, he's breaking up with me..."it's all your fault...i am falling in love with you..." we were only together for 3 1/2 years, but even though i lost him, 28 even after 28 years of being his widower, i would never change anything...i still love him....

You can always get the app and make your order from your phone. You don't even have to use the app to order, since, with the app you can see all the order options, then you have a better feel for what you'd want to drink from reading the descriptions and seeing what the options are.

She heard you, I'm sure. I talked to my mom at the end, she was in hospice. I had to leave for awhile and so I told her don't worry, Bob (my dad) is waiting for you and G (my husband) would take care of me and our kids. She relaxed, you could tell. She was gone a few hours later.

I'm sorry, this person who has supposedly been in a coma for three months looks FAR too healthy for that. Not the least bit drawn, not super skinny (which I would expect if you hadn't been able to eat for three months and was being fed through a tube), nor does this look like the room/bed of a coma patient. As much as we'd all like to believe this is a true story, it just doesn't scream "three month coma" to me.

One day, my mother was changing my diaper and I suddenly started saying "oink" and wouldn't stop. When she called grandma in a panic, grandma yelled out "Honey, it worked!". Turns out my prankster grandfather decided "oink" was going to be my first word and talked the whole family, including my dad, into saying nothing but oink whenever my mom wasn't in the room. I have an old 8mm movie of an aunt holding me at a 4th of July picnic with everyone there saying nothing but "oink" for 5 minutes. I was lucky to grow up in a place of humor and love and absurdity is still my favorite type of funny.

English is not my first language, but understand the meaning of catcalling. I never payed attention to the name after I found one of the cats that live in my job (tv station, lots of space) and started to call her... and it hit me (the realization, not the cat). So disgusting some people do that to others.

We did that at restaurants a few times. One time our server was fantastic, but people at the other table were mean to her. We noticed that and asked to speak to a manager. Poor girl got so worried, but when the manager arrived, my husband and I expressed how amazing out service was. She just stood there and didnt know what to do, but you could see it made her night (and yes, we tipped her really well too to show our appreciation!). It doesnt cost anything to be nice to people. (But we did get 2 free desserts from the manager🙈 and a bottle of wine next time we visited the same restaurant)

Now, please, I am not defending the racist hags I've seen on viral stuff, or unreal fools wanting something for nothing (Like the woman in a $600 Canada Goose down coat bellyaching at the cashier over a $6 price difference). Where I live, when you have to pay $10.00 for ice milk and your additives, you should get all of it. Am I wrong?

I've had an experience like that. When I was training as a teacher, with a 4 year old selective mute in the class, towards the end of my practice, the class were sitting on the carpet and I was asking them questions. Unexpectedly, this girl put her hand up and answered. The teacher and I just slyly looked across at each other as if to say "Oh my god..."

I had a best friend like this back in 1st grade. Exact same condition, but a totally lovely and sweet kid who had lots of intelligence and a lovely smile. Her family was solid, so I would bet she made something of herself and overcame her speech issue.

I have a knife like this. We call it the “family knife” because we all move around all the time and constantly revamp things, but the knife has been around since like 1994 and it just switches official owners. I have it now but I think I’ll give it to my dad since he just came back to the states.

One day I met an old neighbour that'd moved away in the shopping mall of my home town. When we lived in the same street, she had had breast cancer twice. I was so happy that she was still alive that I hugged and kissed her. A man came up to me and said: "Can I have one too?" Spontaneously I kissed him on the cheek. His eyes watered: "My wife died of breast cancer 3 months ago and I've not been kissed since..."

Grandson cried as well, overwhelmed by so many things - his to-be wife, their rescue dog as flower girl, the judge who agreed to marry them for free if he could eat all the smoked salmon he wanted, the plethora of friends, his family from three sides, the camaraderie of the whole event. One day in a billion, for sure.

I believe these are the Sentinelese tribe. In 1880, 2 elderly people and 4 children (tribe members) were taken hostage by outsiders. They became ill from exposure and the adults died. The 4 children were also ill, and were returned to the island. The sick children likely exposed other tribe members. This is such a sad tale. I'm sure there were other deaths. No wonder they are hostile to outsiders.

They once stopped their aggressiv behaviour towards indian ethnologists when those were accompanied by a female scientist for the first time. They even started accepting the Gifts from the indians and brought their children to the beach. Shortly afterwards the indian government changed their policy towards natives and the Sentinels are to be left alone.

I think there was a report that the tribe tends to receive women better than men because of its dynamics, and she also listened to someone who'd had interactions (at a distance) with these people by offering things of value to them like coconuts and other food.

That one confuses me. I don‘t think I ever was so enthusiastic about someone just because of his looks. Interested, sure, but nothing more until I‘d know they were good, kind people. (Not judging here, just surprised. If I had a crush on someone, I could not just switch to their twin.)

You have to start at something. Some people start with physical attraction but obviously that’s just a thin sheet that goes along with a foundation you’d later build with someone based on something other than looks.

I would do this with my kids when they were little. Especially my son. He really struggled to sleep alone in the dark. I asked if he was brave enough to share my space with me. He said he would be there!! It didnt last long and I am glad he grew out of his fear of the dark. I however, miss that time.

I was in the vet office's parking lot with my dog for her yearly check-up. She was so excited she wagged her tail too hard against the seat upholstery and split the end of her tail open. Blood everywhere from what looked like a pinprick. The wound wouldn't heal so she had to have her tail amputated. I tell everyone she wagged her tail off. She still cannot control her wag.

Treating drug addiction as a crime instead of an illness has devastated this country, with the worst happening to people of color. The War on Drugs cost us a whole lot more than tons of money. It cost us useful lives.

Probably using their free will to make their own decisions. Whatever those might be. Do you think that the owners of McDonald's are at fault for the obesity they caused. No, they have a product. You choose if you want that product. Same for drug dealers.

It's initially kind of weird that an opiate dealer looks out for people's wellbeing. if you looked out for people's wellbeing you wouldn't be selling opiates, would you? would be fascinated to talk to this person (the dealer)

If they're convinced that opiates are not a bad thing, they don't think of themselves as poison merchants. And there sure are reason not to think opiates are bad, but on the other hand, street drugs of any kind are bad for sure...

I read about a similar incident in Rayya Elias' memoir, Harley Loco. I can't do the story justice, but basically she'd been a hardcore drug addict for years. After more than a year sober, she had a personal crisis that sent her back to the streets, desperately trying to score drugs. She too was refused by her old dealer. There were other people that fateful night, including an undercover cop, people you wouldn't think would help a former junkie but they did just that. It honestly seemed like divine intervention. The book was great, by the way.

Kinda sounds like the book Sarah by JT LeRoy. I’m surprised a dealer would be this kind. On the other hand, if a doctor suddenly cuts off a patient, the dealer might be saving the patient’s life. Maybe there are moral shades of grey on this topic

I always had a habit of putting up my tree just around Thanksgiving and taking it down just after my birthday on March 9th. Once, I had my Christmas tree up from November of 2015 until March of 2017. My friend / roommate who lived with my wife and I, put it up for me when I was working absurd hours. He died of a heart attack at age 50 on my couch in 2016. I never had the heart to take it down. I finally did. After my birthday of 2017.

In my experience: India. I'm from the UK and have grown up with curries, but when I lived in India, I went out to a small-time restaurant in a regular little town and ordered my meal. When I started on it, the flavours were mind-blowing! We think of curries being good here, but imagine them being ten times better than the best one you've had. The difference is the ingredients coming from that place and being fresh. To any Indians reading, I thank you. You gave me the best culinary experience of my life.

I love that they came back 96 days later to apologize. It implies that it remained on their mind, they didn't forget what they said which shows that it weighed heavily on them. Pain is infectious and the only thing harder than facing anger and abuse with understanding and empathy is accepting that response and working to make yourself a better person and correcting your past actions.

Fairly wholesome but it still should have been made free. I bet there are other extra options that don't help disabled people and could be easily behind a paywall (I understand the creator deserves to be paid). Now it seems like every single disabled person should have to write which seems ridiculous.

Anyone here with smiliar issues who can confirm or deny that a dark mode is explicitly required? I just wonder because any electronic devices I have offer a brightness setting. In contrast, most of the app games on my phone don’t have any dark mode.

I have slight light sensitivity (which has been worse this year). Dark mode is much better than just brightness settings. Watching a movie at 0% brightness is awful. Watching it in dark mode takes all the annoying side light away while still leaving the movie watchable.

Thanks everyone. I think I should clarify that I wasn‘t shocked because they had your number, but because it‘d be absolutely unthinkable in my country to get text messages from an army recruiter. It just seems so close to those unsolicited advertising calls you get from shady companies.

I find it creepy that the US actively tries to recruit over what appears to be a random text message

In the military, you get the stuff for free you get for (kind of) free in europe anyway - like healthcare insurance. They eff you over by depriving the entire country of a system that actually works - and then offer it if you risk your life for other people's profit. Of which you won't get the smallest share.

I think, 'improve yourself' is better. If I were content 'being myself' all the time I would be a worse person for it.

"Being himself" didn't work for now, apparently. Useless advice. Won't help with anxiety and insecurity. Sometimes people need some guide to hold on.
