Person Asks “What TV Show Was Amazing At First But Became Unwatchable For You Later On?”, And 30 Folks Deliver
It is astonishing how fast random opinions on the internet can ruin a person’s outlook on a given product of media entertainment.
But sometimes you don’t need some rando’s thoughts because the show beats them to it by imploding on itself through bad script writing, presentation, acting, or any combination of those three and more.
This inevitably leads to Reddit threads like this one, where folks list TV shows and series that started off very well, becoming instant hits, and then getting progressively worse for a multitude of reasons.

First few seasons were great with pretty good pacing. Later seasons devolve into telling one story at a time. They’d have a cliffhanger of a character maybe dying and do 3 weeks of other stories. By the time it gets back to the cliffhanger you have no idea what’s happening. That and it got repetitive.
The current (and final) season has been really good! Princess has been a fantastic character addition (along with Mercer), and now that they're at the Commonwealth, it's become more of a mystery show than a zombie show. And Negan has had an incredible story arc/character development!! So I'm still a fan and will watch it until the final scene!
WHen they killed Glenn, I stopped watching. Then I read they killed Carl.
Same here. Glenn's death HURT!! I was done after that

I was enamored with it for the first 5 seasons. 6 only reinforced my love but I remember some cracks starting to show.
7 went downhill super fast and I refused to sully my memories with 8.
I always find this equally funny, depressing and annoying. GRR martin gave the show runners a roadmap for how the book series was going to end up. This was it. So many people are upset over the fact that the "mother of dragons" who somehow became a feminist icon, despite the many, constant hints over the fact that like the rest of her family, was INSANE. Her ending was obvious. From the point where her brother was given the golden crown and she basically shrugged. The last seasons had their flaws, but people are just pissed that they invested so much into the dragon queen without really paying attention to the very loud subtext
I'm not a fan of Daenerys but the whole last season sucked bad. People aren't mad that they made her a villain, they're mad that they botched it. The writing the whole season was awful and they screwed up the plot, the characters, and the character development because they were rushing to go work on their side project instead. There's a difference between an upsetting ending and an ending that's upsetting because it's bad. I would have loved to see the villian arc they were setting up work out, but this was not it. They needed way more time to get her to that point (they could have had four more seasons, but they chose not to), and the way they did it, they just went straight to the end. It's not a slow descent into madness, she just snaps all of a sudden. Yeah they're was foreshadowing and setup, but not enough that you'd think she'd start grilling thousands of people when she'd been acting pretty sane. It's just lazy and it doesn't work at all.
Load More Replies...I think that's a bit harsh, the first two episodes season 8 were awesome, The Long Night was an absolutely fantastic episode.
(1/2) The only problem with the last two seasons was, that they did not take so much time for the evolution of the story and characters as they did in the first seasons. No more funny or serious dialogues, which don't really advance the plot, but explain and develop the characters. Trips (from the Wall to Dragonstone, for example) which took half an episode in the earlier seasons took only from one scene of this storyline to the next. Seasons 7 & 8 should have been a lot longer, at least with a season 9, if not season 10. The storylines itself and the development of the characters were okay.
(2/2) There were signs in the earlier seasons that Daenerys was not the nice liberating queen people wanted her to be (espescially those who named their daughters Khaleesi). Ser Jorah died happily, having saved his queen's life (before she was going mad), Jamie's story was sad but predictable (sorry for Brienne, but she survived), and so on. Only Bran was a bit wasted, his character could/should have been more important. And: Episode 69 (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms) which takes place in the night before the Battle of Winterfell, is probably the best episode of any TV series ever done. The whole atmosphere and tension is fantastic. And why? Because they took the time that was needed for the story to create atmosphere, tension and emotions.
Load More Replies...IMO the climax is in The Long Night episode and in the wrong sequence/timeline. They don't have to change the ending/story but tweaking the timeline would suffice. Should have tied up all the loose ends in King's Landing first, killing off Cersei & Jamie Lannister, The Mountain, and the people. Then, Jon & Daenerys continue to Winterfell (transport mode via dragons?) to fight the undead army. With Daenerys dying in battle or being killed by Jon (fine by me because of her atrocities in King's Landing). The show started in Winterfell, it would have been perfect to end in Winterfell too. My preference. 🤷♂️
I don't understand why so many people were unhappy with season 8. Is it because so many people can't handle if there is no happy end? I think it was consequent. Of course, not all episodes were perfect, but 'The Bells' and especially 'The Long Night' were awesome, imo.
Grey's Anatomy 100%. The show was great, but I just can't keep up with all the twists and turns and freaky accidents anymore. It's also a lot less funny. It should have ended seasons ago.
It's gotten way too political. I loved the original group of interns. I hung on until Alex left but after his exit I was pretty much done. The final straw was killing off DeLuca. Plus so sick of Owen's inability to just do the right thing as far as his personal relationships. Also got sick of the Teddy-Koracick-Owen triangle. Koracick deserved better.
This needs to be higher. Medical series with characters killed off in freak accidents is the biggest cliche. They pull that c**p far too often and it’s lazy writing.
I watch a lot of TV. I always have something playing in the back round when i'm working, so i go through a lot of series. My mother loved this show, and i resisted giving it a chance until after it had already been on 5 or 6 seasons. The core group of originals was great, they had great chemistry, the story lines were engaging, even when ridiculous. But....then originals started leaving, stories got dumber, and the other :::gag::: shondaland shows seemed to be taking priority, and eventually they all started to become a means of delivering that big condescending, entitled, selfish and grating speech that just makes you want to kick the character in the face. Add to that the fact that at the start of the show, "Meredith" was played by a 34 year old actress, playing a 22 year old character. 18 years later, she's 52 playing 40 and continuing to behave like she's 22 in her personal life while being the greatest most best doctor in the land just like her mother. 8 years past defense.

I watched about that much til it got boring and too weird. I enjoyed them giving Disney characters a twist separate from their movie counterparts. Then something about seeing Elsa basically cosplaying the animated movie made me stop. It was more fun when they left us guessing who the new person was and not throwing it in our faces like that.
Yes, it was good then got bad. I also thought the lgbtq+ relationships were forced, not that im against them they just didnt seem natural at all
To be fair, a lot of het relationships there also seemed forced. When characters get paired up just for the sake of making another couple, it always feel weird.
Load More Replies...The costumes were AMAZING!! The outfits Regina and Snow had were incredible. They hooked me right away but by the end I was done. It just got a bit lost.
It was a confusing show to watch even at the beginning, but it made some sense, then it just all fell apart.
I think this suffered from wanting to constantly introduce new characters instead of focusing on the ones they had and writing better for them. It became such a 'thing' to introduce new disney or fairytale characters just to say they had them there. It was a great concept but unfortunately I don't think they thought past the first 2 seasons as to how they'd push it forward. It was a little like Prison Break where the concept was amazing but got old and eventually just got stupid over time. If the point is you're some kind of super genius and you're getting yourself arrested to help break someone out of prison but end up spending 5 years in prison... it's kind of dumb.
I remember the first two seasons were good, but when the Wizard of OZ stuff was brought in it got pretty bad and I decided to quit
I watched it for a while then it just got confusing cuz I took a break for a week or two. I felt like it never stopped and I was never gonna finish it
I could not even watch season 1. I cant stand snowwhite, really annoying character.
the first season was great with unpredictable twists an alternative tellings of the stories we all know and love. with the second season it started to be predictable but still watchable. later it just got weird and cheesy. i watched it just out of habbit and hoped it would end fast. All the new characters I was just waiting for the smurfs and alf to also appear 🤦🤷 i stopped in 5-6th season

Call me something unpleasant, but I don't understand what the fuss is about. The show could have been very interesting indeed and probably shouldn't have been cancelled, but Fillion was awful. He's basically playing himself, I guess - childish, self-absorbed, petty man. It is ok-ish in Castle, but how can such a man inspire such undying loyalty as captain Mal, I really don't understand.
Load More Replies...Loved Firefly. Music, the coats, no aliens (I love sci fi but aliens are difficult, on a budget best avoid).
Oh Captain Tight-Pants. He was too damn pretty for this show to be cancelled. Look at that chilled jaw.

Season 1 was great and fresh. Season 2 didn't know what to do with itself and just started giving everyone super powers.
By Season 3, characters were just changing motivations at the drop of a hat and it was just a huge mess of bad writing.
Writers strike was season 2 iirc. Either way they'd an amazing first season then started to go off the rails in 2. 3 and 4 were close to unwatchable except at that stage I'd invested too much time not to finish
Load More Replies...I also loved season 1, it had so much potential (despite the slightly irritating "Save the cheerleader" storyline)... when season 2 started I was so disappointed at how they messed it up and just did nothing with it.
I loved the first series of Heroes and the epic ending with characters sacrificing themselves. Season 2 just reset and said 'no, they didn't actually die'. So they undercut the emotional impact of the climax of season 1. I saw a few more epidsodes, but they didn't seem to know what they were doing, anymore, so I quit it.
Dumbest damn series ever. First season interesting, then it was like multiple personalities +.
I think it really fell apart by season 967. Seriously though, most scripted dramas shouldn't go beyond three seasons.

This. Season 1 was a damn near perfect 1 season story. If they had had any balls at all, they would've stopped there and gone down in history as one of the best single seasons of all time. But some assholes at HBO backed the money truck up, and we all know how that ended...
I’ve stuck with it, but yes totally agree! Season 1 was intriguing, mind bending and quite beautiful. Subsequent seasons just don’t have the magic…don’t have Sir Anthony Hopkins either coincidence?
I stopped watching this when Delores took over a human body and the actress changed... it totally spoilt the whole set of series for me
Yeah once they left Westworld I was done. And I really tried to like it especially because I really love the cast. But I just couldn't do it.
I watched the first episode of season 2 and decided to quit. Season 1 pretty much answered all the questions I had about this world and tied everything up in a neat little bow. I remember thinking: "where do you even go from here? The park is done."
I loved season 1. Season 2 sucked but I stuck with it till the end. Season 3, I barely finished episode 1 and I decided to give up
Not the worst offender, but That 70's Show tanked pretty hard once Eric left. He was sorely needed to make the chemistry of the group work.
Much like Friends they had covered every possible dating combo. Still has it's funny moments in the later seasons though.
Like the episode they stole the Fatso Burger clown!!? Bob arguing with the clown (Fez)was hilarious!! Red's reaction vs Kitty's!! 🤣🤣

Yes I loved the first two seasons after that went way down the rabbit hole
After watching the series I decided to read the books. MUCH BETTER than the show. The books stop before the ridiculous stuff all starts to happen. I am going to read them again when I'm done with the Game of Thrones series.
When the fairies entered the picture, I exited.
When the side characters are more interesting than the main plot, you know there's a problem.
I stuck around for the hot men. But that was about it.
Load More Replies...Yes! Him and Pam. She was my other favorite.
Load More Replies...I tried to stick with it out of nostalgia for the books, but the last season was just awful. Later seasons, I was only watching for Alexander Skarsgård
Correct. The last season felt rushed, like they just wanted to hurry and end it.
Load More Replies...i felt and still feel cheated after watching the last episode. such a shame, id recommend reading the books though x
Season 1 was murder mystery in a world that had vampires, and it was awesome. Then it became about the vampires, werewolves, pixies, etc. and the writing for that wasn't nearly as good.
Loved Eric and Pam, Bill irritated me for some reason. But the whole threesome dream between Sookie, bill, and eric was when I knew that the show had officially jumped the shark.
When Sookie ended up with some faceless rando, I was beyond pissed! THAT was the payoff for sticking till the end?!
Lol. I loved it up until the end. But I've heard many people say they stopped watching around that time too.

IMO, it should have been 2 seasons of him reaching the presidency, and then 2 seasons of everything going downhill.
4 seasons total, 1 for each suit of cards. 2 for building the house of cards, 2 for making it fall apart.
Try the UK original. 3 seasons. 4 episodes per. House of Cards. To Play the King. The Final Cut. Ian Richardson's Francis Urquhart.... Superb.
Indeed. This is where I first saw this, and it wasn't until years later that I saw the American version. I read the books, as well, from which the British series came into being.
Load More Replies...The show was destroyed when they killed off Kevin Spacey. He was the show. As long as he was in opposition. As soon as he got into the Oval Office - the show began to dwindle
The problem with this was that there was this ominous promise of evil and it was there for the first few seasons but fizzled out toward the end. I also hate that they tried to make Claire some good-guy character in the end when she was just as guilty and evil as Frank was for the first few seasons. She was vicious and calculated and deliciously cold and then suddenly she's just trying to do her job and not be put aside by the good ole boys club. And after Kevin Spacey left it was just a nightmare. They tried but the finale was just ridiculous.

What's especially frustrating is if they had ended the show after 4 seasons like the creators wanted to the ending everyone hated actually would have made sense because they wouldn't have proven 4-5 times that Robin and Ted don't work together.
Yes!! Why would he literally let her go and then want her back?! Also, spend a year getting us to fall in love with the mother and then kill her off?! WTF. I'm still mad and it's been 7 plus years.
Load More Replies...I saw the alternate ending on youtube, and is waaaay better than the original!
That ending was truly just.... if they weren't already done someone should have gotten fired. It was truly one of the worst finales I've ever seen. Way to completely disappoint fans while also making the entirety of the plot pointless in the end. When I think of worst series finales of all time this and Dexter are right up there as #s 1 and 2. But I would watch the dexter finale a thousand times over watching this again. I literally haven't been able to watch the show in reruns because it was so infuriating that I just can't bring myself to watch it..
How to Get Away with Murder. The first season had some intrigue and plot... and then they just start murdering people left and right after that.
1. Season awesome, 2. Season awesome, 3. Season awesome but best to end it with the third
Overall I really liked the show, but it did jump the shark a few seasons in.

Then for some reason, the writers decided to go to the supernatural b******t superhero unrealistic insult your intelligence level c**p, pandering to low brow narratives with the same dragged boring scripts. They turned a wonderful, fresh original story into a total cringeworthy unwatchable shitshow. I could not watch it anymore, it got that bad.

Flash and Arrow both got screwed by Netflix DareDevil showing how good it could be imo.
I was into both Arrow and Flash, then Daredevil came out and I just kept noticing inconsistencies and budget issues.
But I will say Grant Gustin does make a good Barry Allen.
Flash Season 1 was amazing. They threw out enough red herrings to keep even the fans of the comics guessing ("Eddie Thawne? Oh, he's totally going to be the Reverse Flash..."). Harrison Wells was absolutely compelling, just a great season all around. Season 2... Zoom was pretty intimidating but it was basically a repeat of another speedster wanting Barry to go faster. The Time Remnant thing got confusing fast. Barry's dad got released from prison, then immediately left the show - even though reuniting with him was like the driving force behind the entire first season. And Wally showing up out of nowhere like a long lost brother on a daytime soap opera was just cringe.
It was doing well on its own but messing with time got tiresome and hammy villains ruined the more grounded main cast.
I kind of noped out of The Flash after season 4. They should've stopped after season 3.
The CGI is horrible. The story and villains are honestly stupid. The first 4 seasons are good but after that complete garbage. Once my favorite actor left and his character(s) died, I was like nope. Somehow they're making a Season 9. Don't get me started with Iris. She should have died early on.
I don't see what Daredevil has to do with Flash but ok lol the problem is how they keep trying to act like everybody is more important than The Flash on his own dang show.

As soon as Ragnar will killed off, I turned off. His sons (except Bjorn) were nut cases
You may think its boring after a while but it is based on true history, even if it is stretched a bit.
I thought the reboot was okay. The interplay between the Christian and Pagan vikings is interesting. Still not as good as the original show though.
Omg you missed some good s**t. It is one of the best shows I think. I loved it. After Ragner dies it is different but they all form there own story. And his first wife actually lives a long time. I hate how she does though
I started watching it because of my dad's Danish ancestry. Then I saw an article about how it was (loosely) based on history. I checked a tree, developed partly from a cousin's very extensive tree on my mom's side. Sure enough, there was Rollo, a direct ancestor. I later found Ragnar in there, then Ecgbert, and kept finding more. After a while, my mom started asking if we were related to every new character introduced. Often, the answer was yes. It did get hard to watch after a while, but the pull to find new grandmas/bedstemoders and grandpas/bedstefaders was too strong. I'm aware my info could be wrong. One new line of research can chainsaw a whole branch of the tree. But until I find out otherwise, I claim them as mine. My experience makes me wonder how many other viewers of the series were oblivious to their own relationships to the characters. Genealogy is such a gateway drug into learning about history.
Since Dracula season two never happened, I managed to see my favorite killed off in the series. Sad.
I tried 3 times but i just couldn't get through it, i just really don't care.
At first it was a fresh setting for a procedural with likeable, developed characters. But then Brennan got Flanderized hard starting around S4 and it was never the same.
I was crushed when they killed Sweets off. Actually felt sorry for Daisy's character
Pretty much any series that depends on sexual tension goes to pieces after the tension is resolved. See also Castle.
Loved it to the end - not all episodes were great, but all were good
I didn't know either so looked it up: "Flanderization is the process through which a single element of a character's personality, often an originally mild element, is inflated in importance over the course of a work until it becomes their primary defining characteristic." Like Joey in Friends maybe? They overexaggerated his not being the brightest to him being painfully stupid.
Load More Replies...Actually, this has been one of my favorite shows. I watch it over and over again in syndication.
So many loopholes and a never ending plot. I mean, the female hero (forgot her name) was wanted and had her pictures broadcast nationwide live, but a couple of weeks after she can do undercover work.
I think you just randomly selected some long running series that you have never even seen. The Loopholes are the whole reason behind this programme, wondering who Raymond Reddington really is and his relation to Elizabeth ( the name you forgot) Keen. If you had seen the series you would know why she was exonerated
Raymond and The bad guys are so much better than the good guys. I hate all the good guys, especially what's her face. She couldn't stick to a decision if her life depended on it. Aaaaaaahhh! She's the worst!
Load More Replies...I was expecting this to show up on a list. I love it so much in the first few seasons, then Liz started to honestly annoy me. I think I stopped around the end of the third or fourth season? I am not sure. It got more and more depressing for me, so much that I can't stand watching it. Also, I really miss Mr. Kaplan. She is one of the most interesting characters. I like the backstory behind her name. I like her personality. I like the actress who played her. I like everything about her. I hated to see her go.
Ugh it just played out the 'is he her father or not' angle to the point of excruciating pain.
I thought it sucked out of the gate. James Spader, "I know something you don't know and I'm not going to tell you what it is" was just stupid and I wasn't even a little bit interested in it.
By the end of filming the two main leads hated each other… and you can tell! They had to come up with whacky storyline’s to keep them apart.
Pretty much any series that depends on sexual tension goes to pieces after the tension is resolved. See also Bones.
This! I always do re-runs up to and including season 4. After that it's not worth watching.
Load More Replies...The only thing I liked about this show, was looking for the Firefly easter eggs.
One of my favorites tv shows. I still watch it over and over again, right beside Bones.
I just noticed i personally stay happy with a series till the end of its 3rd season
I watched a couple of episodes in series 1 and I hated them both straight away.
I never got the impression that they hated each other and it was good until the final episode. Not as good as the first 2 seasons, but still good
I still re-watch seasons 1-4 endlessly. Maybe season 5. But it was once about solving murders, then it became about their relationship with solving murders on the side. I just can't explain it, the first half of the series is amazing and can watch forever, but the second half? What happened? It was like lazy writing!
Again "male and female working together and oooh they become lovers" is a tired trope in these kind of detective dramas. Please. Just keep it platonic for once. Guys can be friends with and work with women without having a relationship. I'm watching Elementary and I'm praying there's not going to be a relationship with Sherlock and Joan but I'm not hopeful
The first seasons are so good and then it basically turns into "what weird monster can we come up with in between killing off and resurrecting the Winchester boys and all their friends/family?"
Like I tapped out with the episode involving Tinkerbelle. I did watch the series finale and it sure was a finale.
I feel the opposite; slow starter then it gets "Awesome".
I loved the whole lot of them, the probing aliens, the B***h..Jerk! come backs. The banter back and forth really made it for me, I loved Crowley and his mother Rowena, hated Mary Winchester and swooned over Jeffrey Dean Morgan as the dad, the whole homage to walking dead thing ...
One thing I appreciate about the last season is that Jensen Ackles (Dean) and Misha Collins were clearly playing it like they were in love; Misha said afterwards that the scene where he confesses his love for Dean and then dies was the most the network would let them do. And he really brought his a-game for that scene.
Yea he did!!! Had me ugly crying all over the place.
Load More Replies...I LOVED Supernatural. Gets off to a slow start and then just takes off. Last few seasons got a bit repetitive but I watched it until the very end . It has a great payoff, IMHO. A major character says, right from the start, "I know how my story ends .." and 15 years later, that is exactly what happens . COVID kept the finale from having the truly epic finale it had planned but it still worked. I will always love this show.
The original story arc ended with season 5. They got a new show runner and just went crazy.
I loved it. It breaks my heart that they kept it running for so long. There were soooo many places they could have ended it and just elegantly slipped out and let go of the story. But they had to drag the poor dead horse allllll over and ... Nope. I liked the first 5 seasons and I liked quite a few after that, too. I wanted to murder Castiel on a weekly basis after s6 or 7 and when they got to the Antichrist, I just quit. But unlike with many other shows, I'm still mourning the death of some secondary characters. Charlie. Ellen, Bobby, even Jo. They created great characters and then all killed them, but the one they should have murdered stayed?? Still pissed. That said - it was a big part of my life and I met one of my best friends just through that show. Can't ever be mad at it.
I agree, it was most fun for me with just two brothers fighting supernatural stuff around the country, without then meeting demons and angels and dying and being resurrected multiple times, then meeting god or something x.x
Always preferred the freak of the week. Dean's resurrection was good, got a bit too repetitive after that, and I struggled so hard with the Leviathans. Also screw you for killing off Uncle Bobby.
I loved the angle of Dean's resurrection - but they had to top it off with Sam being resurrected, too, and then having spent even longer in Hell and having it worse. No trauma is the same, obviously, but that just soured it for me. Why not go with the "severely traumatized and not dealing with it at all in a healthy way"-Dean and a "caring but not quite knowing what to do because your brother is a stubborn donkey"-Sam? And then go one or two more seasons and just let it go? *sigh* that said - I liked the Leviathans. That bib? Hilarious!

First 2-3 seasons were good then it just got stupid. I really disliked that they did not offer the wheel chair part to a disabled person rather than a faker. What is the point in having a disabled part in the show if you are going to give to a non disabled person. That sucked.
I agree with the OP it was fun when it first started but the song choices were very.... remember when American Idol first started and they'd force these modern kids to sing these old style songs and no one liked them but some old fart on the AI staff was forcing them to do it because it was cheaper? It felt like that. Like they'd have a Barry Manilow episode and it's like....no one under the age of 40 is going to get excited about this. Sorry. And Glee was the same. They occasionally did a more modern episode (i think the Britney Spears eps were great because of this -- and because Brittany was awesome, lol) but more often than not it was some tired old song no one cared about. Such a waste of great voices!
Once Fonzie jumped the shark, while water skiing and wearing his jacket, the show just got progressively worse.
PS, I know.
Yes, for some of us. Had to explain to my husband last night after I said it while we were watching reruns of the last season of The Office last night.
Load More Replies...I remember a joke from Angel (the BTVS spin-off) where they said that the last seasons of Happy Days were sort of a pact with the devil!
Quite literally the show that set the standard and spawned the expression “jumped the shark”.
Yes but now we have the phrase “to jump the shark.” I remember watching that episode and thinking what?!? But still he was The Fonz.
Ah, but when Barry Zuckercorn literally jumps over a shark on Arrested Development…TV gold!
Considering this series coined the phrase of jumping the shark, a reason why a lot of these series are on this list, it should be higher.

Breaking Bad. It was great for the first several full rewatches, unwatchable after I lost my phone and my computer and TV broke.
SassySSS replied:
Hahaha you got me. I was fully ready to be like WHAT Breaking bad is the antithesis of a show that goes off the rails. Just so happen to be deep into a rewatch now after several years and I literally can’t stop saying how more shows need to be like this, the story is so tight and focused. No sprawling casts of new characters or Flanderization of existing characters. The storytelling is so well done, just remarkable television.
This show does not belong this list at all. It’s one of the most perfect series ever made.
I actually loved the show but what I hated was the audience reaction. When the show was at its height of popularity so many people were acting like Walt was some hero or badass and he absolutely wasn't. He was a scared little man who screwed himself because of greed. He was not a good guy who was forced to do what he did because he was sick. Maybe I'm just oversensitive because my brother was a drug addict but I'm so tired of the 'drug dealer is an awesome gangster badass' trope. People would literally dress as him. Guys in particular had this love for him and it was so depressing. It wasn't until the very last eps of the show that they kind of addressed how his actions caused his own downfall.
I watched it long enough to realize they're all bad people so why am I watching this? Ditto with Madmen
Same! I quit both those series with a bunch of episodes left and no intention to ever finish, just got tired of watching jerks being jerks.
Load More Replies...I watched BB ach week (for how long?) on AMC.. Excellent TV. Binge watching, tho was a whole new breathless experience. It holds its greatness through rewstching. BB is a masterpiece.
My husband made me watch it as I don’t usually like shows about anti-heroes, but my favourite scene is when the chicken guy bought it.
Breaking bad is pure gold, storytelling and character wise. The whole visual is epic

The Office limped to the finish line.
The_Sound_of_Slants replied:
It was not unwatchable for me, but you can definitely tell the writers lost their direction after Steve left. Characters started acting... well... out of character. The new characters were pretty weird. Story lines were getting stretched thin.
I am glad they did not straight up cancel the show after Steve left. I would have been mad if I did not see how some of the characters' lives progressed.
But watching the last few seasons you can definitely tell they knew the show could not go on without Steve. They were just using the time to figure out how to wrap it all up nicely. And maybe throw a few cameos along the way.
I never got the concept of watching nearly the same annoying coworkers/managers on TV at night when you just escaped them at afternoon.
I felt that way as I watched it after leaving my office and all I can offer by way of explanation is masochism.
Load More Replies...I have a conspiracy theory about The Office that they only made Jan crazy so Michael Scott would seem saner in comparison.
I love the foreshadowing in season 3 cocktail party episode
Load More Replies...Great example. US office dragged on YEARS longer than it should have. It became a rubbish tv soap opera by the end. Contrast that with the UK Office- 2 series, 12 episodes. All characters completed their story arcs in that time. And it also transformed the format of UK sitcoms forever. Job done. In fact, there wasn't even really the need to do the two christmas specials really.
Doctor Who is getting to be that way. And I know, there's all the hate for the Chibnall era on Doctor Who, and some of that's valid--but that's not what I'm getting at. It's just not much fun anymore. When it starts feeling like a chore to watch it, it's probably time to let it go. And I have to say, this bothers me...Doctor Who was a huge part of my childhood and really my whole life, ever since the mid-80s. It sucks to have it feel this way now.
We were huge fans up until Capaldi and interest just waned. I've never seen the newer Dr. Too bad really
Peter Capaldi didn’t start out amazingly, but it felt like he was just getting into his stride when he left the show.
Load More Replies...I loved the Ninth, Tenth, and Eleventh Doctor (especially the Tenth, David Tennant was extraordinary). Matt Smith had huge shoes to fill but he was wonderful too. I lost interest after Rory & Amy were gone….I just couldn’t get into it after that.
I loved it up to the Chibnall era and annoyed that Jodi Whitaker didn't really get her chance to shine. I think part of the thing that made it work was the fact that it went away after a few years and then got a fresh revival over 15 years later. If they stopped now then maybe brought it back with fresh blood after a while it might work better
I had always loved this show growing up. I could never decide who was my favorite, Matt Smith or David Tennant. I decided to continue where I left off with Smith and Capaldi is not terrible, it justs takes some time getting used to. Haven't gotten to the chick yet, but I'm not sure on continuing after 12.
The problem isn’t the actors it’s the appallingly chaotic scripts. When I was young watching John Pertwee and Tom Baker the stories were several episodes long and had proper plots and none of these Deus Ex Machina lame endings
I didn't love Capaldi but I like Jodie Whittaker's Dr and will be sad to see her go.
The best doctor from Doctor Who 2005 is the Ninth Doctor because of one awesome character. That character's name is Captain Jack Harkness played by John Barrowman. Need I say more? End of discussion!
Capaldi's era was Doctor Who at its best. He was born to play the Doctor. But Chibnal ruined it all. Let's hope RTD can save it.
It was really cool. Then later on... Jesus Christ, the protagonist is a Mary Sue, everyone always listens to her, you can always guarantee none of her friends will die and you can always feel like the trouble she gets herself and her friends into aren't threatening. What a waste
For some reason people think I'm talking about the sitcom. Why? I'm talking about the god awful Netflix adaption. The first season was insanely fun. Everything after just felt like the most below bare minimum awful writing I have ever seen in any show.
It was actually pretty good to me then something happened and I got tried of watching it because I thought it was gonna end stupid
I tapped out at the teen orgy. It’s a trope in young adult shows that needs to retire.
I didn't like this show but then I realised it was not for my demographic, probably would be good for 14/15 year olds
Loved it all the way to the end (although the Circus series did drag a bit), also liked that they actually ended it properly rather than dragging it on and on.
This was pretty good at the beginning ngl, but I got tired of it because they overdid it with the sexual stuff
what turned me off was the Nth repetition of "Don't do that Sabrina there will be horrible, earth shattering consequences if you do that!!!" ....... Sabrina does that thing ....... No horrible, earth shattering consequences - in fact no consequences at all
I made it through all season but for what xD Her friends always turns their back on her regardless it's infuriating.
Was a fun watch at the start, but it just devolved into fake, staged tripe. Not sure it was ever real tbf, but at least at the start it was somewhat believable.
I hope this isn't too unpopular, but the last 2 seasons of Arrested Development were absolutely painful to sit through. The story just got unnecessarily convoluted and was just boring.
Yes it was so good and when they were bringing it back I was so excited but it was terrible.
The first two seasons were perfect. The third was pretty good but not great. The Netflix seasons were unwatchable.
I couldn't get more than a few shows into this. The fact that everyone kept annoying him wasn't funny to me. It pissed me off, and I couldn't watch it. But, there's always money in the banana stand was very funny. (My family was watching it, so I did see that bit.)

Dexter was great but peaked at the end of season 4. Could not stand the last two seasons
VariationLimp replied:
I wish that the last season had gone like this:
Deborah kills Laguarta and helps Dexter cover it up. Angel finds Laguerta's notes and continues the investigation into the Bay Harbor Butcher in secret, with Dexter eventually being found out. He plans on running, and when he goes to see Deborah one last time, he discovers that she killed herself out of guilt. Dexter then fakes his own death to escape and he lives with the guilt, explaining why Deborah is his dark passenger in New Blood.
Dexter was amazing! Hated the very last episode but New Blood took care if that.

such an amazing show with SUCH a shitty ending. they could have done so much more with Sandra and Jodie together.
I thought the ambiguous ending of Season 3 was perfect. I just pretend that Season 4 didn't happen.
Yes. Comer was AMAZING and the will forever be a fan of her stuff but the 3rd season you could see it was falling off. 4th was a no. A show based on villanelle? I could watch that.
I LOVE this show. Jodie Comer is a genius of an actress. It is crazy to me that she isn't more famous. But yeah, the ending was disappointing. Even so, I didn't think it went on too long.
I disagree , I loved it despite the fact that Eve really was supposed to die at the end and they changed the plot :)
CaoCaramelo said: I was addicted to this show but it could have ended in season 2. RandomUsername600 replied: It became obvious the writers had no plan, had written themselves into a corner, and they started contradicting their own canon.
It started out very much like a modern day West Wing.
But a key plot arc involved one of the key characters deliberately withholding his HIV status from his boyfriend. That's bad enough, but the show went on to vilify the boyfriend for being justifiably angry.
Because f**k consent, am I right?
If you really want your blood to boil, the showrunners had the boyfriend apologize to the key character ***for getting angry about being exposed to HIV without his knowledge or consent*** and we all learned a valuable lesson in ~eRaSiNg ThE sTiGmA~.
It was a goodish show for a minute, first few episodes, then pithy, hokey cardboard characters. The scenes between the President and his wife with sparkly sappy music, blech. Never liked Keifer as an actor, icky icky weird, pompous vibes. Never liked his father either.
I enjoyed most of it, but the FBI/CIA agent Hannah Wells kept getting more and more reckless as time went on. Wasn't surprised at the outcome. And Emily just kept sticking her nose into where it didn't belong. Not a quick study... Just finished watching the final season.
Loved the premise and first couple of seasons, but later it turned into just stupid drama between the characters and less about actual law.

Holy [cow], yes.
While I get that it's supposed to show the cycle of poverty and how hard it is to get out of it, as the seasons went on the characters all became pretty [effin'] unhinged. The writers must've sat down and just decided that every character was going to make the worst decision every single time.
You should watch the original British Version it's a million times better or worse how ever you look at the crazy storylines lol
Totally agree. Original British version of Shameless is definitely way better!
Load More Replies...That's a great show! It got better once Fiona left. I was glad to see her go.
I liked this series, but I haven't seen the newer episodes without Emily Rossum.
So i disagree majorly. When you grow up in it and are trying to get out s**t gets more and more crazy yet common. We had a saying. "What you call the most f****d up craziest night of your life. I call a Tuesday."

Yeah. After the 3rd season it was too much to watch. I didn’t even bother finishing it. Season 1-3. Both the brothers cant even hold a gun. They cherish life too much that they’re afraid to take one. Season 4. Suddenly they’re john wicking all around panama.
I loved Prison Break, for a time. But then they just kept rehashing the same plot line over and over. If you've seen the first 2 seasons you've seen the entire series.
I have two candidates, hands-down:
1) The Newsroom
First Season was absolutely stellar, exposed all kinds of problems with modern American news programs, and ended its first season on a high note with the promise of much more drama. How the second season managed to both fail so spectacularly and then unravel into a rushed ending remains one of the greatest disappointments even years later.
2) American Gods
The first season was *perfect.* The acting was better than anyone could have guessed, the script was beautiful, and the first season ended right on track to promise a second season with everything that made the first season great. Unfortunately, *somebody* involved in the project disagreed with where it was going, got rid of the showrunners, and many actors followed them out. It never recovered. Moral of the story: don't fix what isn't broken.
I can't stress these two entries emphatically enough.
The series made me read the book and I absolutely fell in love with the author eating everything up that I can he's written now. Terry Pratchett right?
Load More Replies...I only made it through the first two seasons of American God's but definitely season one was the best. The dead girlfriend was great comic relief.
Falling Skies had cool things every season, but they were definitely running out of quality ideas or writers by Season 4. That finale was a joke also. I HATED the love triangles.
I really liked the fact that first episode just threw you straight into the action with the alien invasion already ongoing, most of the shows of this kind have kinda slow start, introducing characters and the back story. This was different and caught my interest straight away. I enjoyed it throughout, but I guess they could fit it in 4 seasons.
I actually really like this show!! There are some plot pieces that aren't my favorite but overall I adore this show. I rewatch it all of the time.
I agree!! I feel like they did really well on the show, and while the last season may not have been quite as good as the first few, it was still well made and had a good plot

Similar_Vermicelli63 replied Because Ash has the skill of schoolboy Joey and his Ratata. He’s all about making friends and loving his Pokémon. If the series was about him meticulously inbreeding and hardcore regime EV training; his Pikachu might not get destroyed every other episode. Gary understands the meta.
I still follow the fan theory that the whole show is just Ash's dream: He's actually in a coma from Pikachu's shock in the first episode. Explains why the kid is still 10 years old after 20 years. And why he's still as smart as schoolboy Joey.
Pokemon was WAY after my time. My kids liked it, but they only watched the movies and played the video games. I tried learning the card game with my son, but by page 10,758 of the instructions I gave up. That said, if Google really wants to impress me, they'll develop an AI that can explain the Pokemon card game to me.
I used to love Pokémon. Then sun and moon came along and it just kind of ruined the shows for me. It became really repetitive
Out of the 41 shows listed here, I've only watched two. Happy Days (dad got transfred to Germany before Fonz jumped the shark) and Bones. Stopped watching once Sweets was KIA.
It just got too up itself & smug & really ended up making not a lot of sense.
Sherlock was great! I mean, sure season four was more convoluted than the others but it doesn't take away from how good it is.
It should have ended at the 3rd series. But they had to bring it just to kill one of my favourite characters in the fourth.
Any show from the US if it is a hit they will keep making more and more seasons. Squid game made by Americans would have nine seasons and full of love triangles with s*x escenes every 15 minutes lol

Load More Replies...The problem with a lot of these shows is they should have ended sooner. There's a certain point when writers start running out of ideas or the characters have fulfilled what they set out to do. When this happens a good idea is to write a series finale and have the loose ends tied up. Unfortunately producers and Networkers see how popular a show is and get greedy and demand for more episodes. Many times when this happens the writers and actor get fed up and want to move on this also leads to the decline of a show.
Yes Kusotare Lost for sure. People need to stop blowing JJ Abrams. He’s destroyed more than he’s enhanced. Also how are we missing Scandal (the latter half of the last season was just sort of meh and I get the sense of accomplishment and breaking barriers and all, but making her ultimately president some day was totally wedged in). 24 (the stakes were so meh and formulaic. We saw the “a bomb is going to explode in XXX in 1960’s Batman). Nip/Tuck (when you start getting over the top for an over the top show you’ve gone to a point of no return). Also I’m glad season 4 of Stranger Things finally got its shiit together. Nothing will ever be season 1, but 2 was a huge letdown, 3 was like “well it looks like they are at least trying now” and 4 got us back on course. Although the very end was kinda anti-climactic and just a justification of 5. PS- if you don’t at least recognize that Eddie’s Master of Puppets was ultimately the best metal music video you’ve ever seen you can NOT come to my birthday party!
Eddie! Such a great character. But yeah, first season was gold, don't know much about why 2 was a letdown - I din't really get into 3rd season, but I love Steve and Robin so that was helpful and now I'm sitting on hot coals for the 5th (hopefully the last because please don't ride this out till the horse is dead!)
