When we're judging others, Dr. Maury Joseph, a psychologist in Washington, D.C., says we must consider the context of their actions.
"If a person makes the only choice available to them, based on their developmental history, the prejudices of the country in which they were born, and their current environment, does that make them bad?" Joseph asks.
Everyone has a backstory that explains why they act a certain way. Can we convict them without it? Let's do a test.
Here's a list of situations in which the internet (most notably, this subreddit) thought individuals proved themselves to be rotten from the inside. Upvote the ones you agree with and let's see if there are deeds that don't need the context Maury Joseph was talking about to earn you some pretty nasty labels.

I don’t even know where to start. Something similar happened to me not all that long ago. I worked in the medical field, went to take a drug test, no biggie, there were urine and blood samples that should have been handled and my results lit up like a Christmas tree. And I insisted upon a retest, and when they refused, I ended up paying out of pockets (I needed it for a referral to a new pain management doctor and ended up not only NOT being able to find a PM who would accept me, but lost my job on top)

Let me start off by saying I do t condone this in any way whatsoever. That being said this pic is possible fake. The fact that the man is standing on the baby without killing tipped me off to it possibly being faked. He's too heavy and would have killed that baby instantly. I copied the photo and googled it. Only 3 things popped up. A Reddit post. A Facebook post in Spanish and an Italian article with several pics of how they medically looked after them where the photo was included. The Facebook post stated the whale she is standing on was Tilikum and the article stated the whale was one called Taima. The article also question if the pic was faked. Do with that info what you will. In my mind there's a 50/50 chance it is fake. Due to the nature of the pic I'd like to think that if it is indeed real it would have way more hits than just 3. Oh. The woman in the pic is Dawn Brancheau.

I agree. As both a parent and a former server, the table looks pretty standard. The floor is messy because it looks like they had one, maybe two, little ones. Most servers understand that little ones are extra-messy. It's what they do. What I hope this family did was tip extra for the mess. Oh just clean it up, it's not that bad. Most of it's on the table. The food on the floor is from the toddler, and anyone who doesn't understand that this is just what happens with toddlers is either childfree or a very cruel parent. Yes, the mum could crawl around on her hands and knees picking it up with her fingers, or the paid staff with the equipment could clean it up. Yes, that's a mess, and no I wouldn't leave a table like that, but seriously, compared to some of the heartbreaking stories on here, an employee complaining when their job gets a bit challenging is just annoying. They need to get a grip or a different job (I have also worked in hospitality and cleaned up after people).

When we take our toddler out and he does this we always apologize profusely, we do our best to clean up his mess, and always leave a generous tip as apology. I saw something similar to this just a month ago at the local Denny's. The father just let the kid dance around and actually eat his food without a fork including the brat putting his face into the place and picking up the food with his mouth and the little bastard would drop it on the table or floor and he was just looking at his phone most of the time. The little bastard would not sit down and wandered around. He was NOT some toddler, he was around 10 or 11. THEY were sitting less than ten feet from us. The waitress even tried to clean up while the little asshole was dropping food on the floor and all the father said was thanks and went back to his phone and I just wanted to scream. I was going to say something when we left but he left before us. The little bastard just left a mess. I asked the waitress if they left a big tip. She said they put $1 on the bill for a tip and then we saw the syrup all over the table as we walked by. My brother and I left he an extra ten on top of the twenty percent we always leave.
A good follow-up question to ask yourself would be "do you take time to consider the emotions of people around you in everyday life?"
Showing interest in the well-being of others is vital to maintaining interpersonal relationships. And it usually doesn’t take much to demonstrate that you care. It's often enough just to offer emotional support or a listening ear.
But if you feel indifferent, or if you believe others deserve the distress they experience, you might benefit from talking to a therapist.

This happened to me last year with my nebulizer connector cord... I had horrible asthma n the air quality was so bad I was gasping for air with every breath n my fucken nebulizer cord s**t out n then someone stole the package I paid $30 to have shipped next day... the package was under my fucken alleyway gate for not even 10 minutes... they jumped my fence, took it, opened it n most likely ditched it somewhere when they realized it was a $8 useless cable. Meanwhile, that was the last one the company had available due to covid n not being in their warehouse so I had to call 20-30 places to find this cord to have it shipped overnight... ended up spending over $75 for a $8 fucken cord that stood between me n not being able to breath. Fucken assholes.

Then you obviously don’t know some members of my family, and the way they behaved when the will was read after my paternal great grandmother died (long before I was born, so I was told about this by my aunt). She had inherited all the valuable rental properties Great-Grandpa had invested in, for decades, when he died years before—-and which had doubled in value since. The scene that ensued after the bulk of the will was read was not pretty. Suffice it to say, the properties were divided amongst some of the children and grandchildren. Some, but not all. The ones who never asked for anything and who truly loved my great-grandparents were given a portion of the properties. The ones who were more like the person in this article, the ones who were always asking for handouts, got nothing. Great-Grandma considered that they already got their inheritances, and then some, through the grand total of all the handouts—-and expensive bailouts in some cases—-over the years. Some branches of the family still don’t talk to each other.

I wish my father had long enough after being diagnosed to go back to school n to go on a cruise... but he had 7 weeks from when he was diagnosed to the day he passed n spent every minute in a hospital.... I would give my life savings to have been able to see him back in a fishing boat or back in his lapidary room making jewelry before he passed.... literally... I would give anything to have had him get atleast one more meaningful experience in before he passed instead of only seeing hospital walls. My dad didn't leave us much but that never ever mattered to me n my brothers. I couldn't imagine acting this way.... I hope this child got nothing.

I bet this kid badgered Dad for money—-with the attitude that they were entitled to it—- their entire life. Maybe Dad even saved their spendthrift ass a few times too many. Maybe, if there are other siblings who never asked for handouts, never cared about the money, and are more upset that their time with him is now so limited, Dad might have put some aside for them in his will. Yeah it's very real. But you should also get all the info you can. Family member of mine suffered an aneurism June of 2020 - he was 86 and arrived at the hospital unresponsive....because you know...aneurism. The ER team told us in person that the scans revealed a large blood burst on the left side of his brain. Aneurism. Ffwd through 3 weeks of waiting and asking for the death certificate so he could be released from the morgue and buried only to find out they listed cause of death as Covid...even after they told us the aneurism was the cause of death. Yes the virus is very real but you should still question everything. This person was just an insensitive jerk.

I mean did he have covid at the time? Covid can and does cause aneurysms in some people. See corona itself isn't ever the cause of death. It's a complication due to obtaining the virus that can cause death, eg. Heart stopping, organ failure. Those deaths are still due to COVID even if technically their body gave up etc.

This is truly despicable, but why wouldn't the delivery service ring the doorbell or knock on the door & hand the food to the mom? And why wouldn't the mom get up & be waiting for the delivery if the food is being stolen? I was a single mom, and yes, my kid got sick now & then, so I know how exhausting it can be, but I would definitely be waiting on the doorstep for a food delivery. This is kinda ESH.

The point being the cops were spending their time enforcing a law that clearly did not need to be enforced at the time, and I'm sure actual crimes were going on elsewhere that they could have been dealing with. City should censure their supervisors, void all the tickets, and reimburse the victims of this abuse of authority for their time.

100% the case in Australia (where this happened). I've called the police many times before and they've never - literally never - turned up. Not even when I called about a woman screaming hysterically for help and being chased down the street outside my house. And laughed at every time I've tried to report that my niece has been missing for over a year and that I fear her abusive mother has killed her (literally "But if we find your niece and she's fine, we'll have just wasted our time"). The police here are unfathomably incompetent. It seems every week there's a news story about someone dying or getting murdered because cops never responded. They're too busy dicking around on s**t like this.

Omfg. I hope this baby found a home. This is exactly why I'm in the process of starting a senior animal hospice program out of my home. The thought of animals who had a family for 10+ years being dumped n dying in shelters makes me sick. I have 2 senior dogs n I couldn't imagine ever even spending a day away from them. Every moment is precious.... how could you do this to your family member? I mean, I see it all the time at SPCA where I volunteer... it's so f****d. But in the next 2 months I'm going to be taking in 2-6 senior animals who are very close to their last day just so they don't die in a kennel without proper love n without being spoiled first. That's the hardest part about working in shelters. Seeing these amazing animals get passed up because they're older only to die alone in a kennel makes you seriously hate human beings. If you're someone who can handle saying goodbye n knowing you did a good thing, PLEASE LOOK INTO DOING THIS TOO! There's no shortage of grey faces!

I was in an Anthropology class. My first class, first day of college (started college when I was 28.) Sitting next to my husband and I hear a girl behind me talking to her friend, complaining about how her father got her a BMW instead of the Mercedes she wanted. I turned to her and said "My first car was a 4-door, very well used '71 Chevy Nova, and it wasn't even mine...my Dad owned it..I just had the privilege of driving it. Be grateful for what you HAVE, not what you don't." And then my husband pipes up.."I didn't even have a car....I had to drive my mothers old Chrysler Station Wagon." We had two friends (also older college starters) that piped in with their crappy first cars. She shut up after that and never whined about how "cheap" her parents were.

This one is true. He had a record past drunk driving and keeps getting off. The judge needs to bee recalled and fired. He actually sounded sorry for the driver in his sentencing from reading the judges comments. Mother and daughter thanks to new car safety features were injured but thanks to air bags and auto braking features survived. A car from 40 years ago and the would not have survived. THIS was in England.

F**k these people man. In my street this guy spent three weeks sanding down and repainting a huge set of garage doors. Within a week after finishing it, some asshole had gone through the street tagging everything, including three nonsensical words on those freshly painted doors. No way to get it off except for repainting the entire thing.

It's awful to have your hard work ruined like this. I really do hope she can fix it and the idiot gets caught. My brother runs New Urban Era, and they do this sort of thing. They decorated some local bus stops, and a few of them got vandalized. He managed to get them sorted out, and it is suspected someone found out who did it because the vandalism happened once more and then suddenly the work was left alone after the second repair

When I worked at a groomers, a guy came in with a photo of his dog. He said that, while he was gone in Ohio to see his parents, his college roommate sold most of his stuff...including his dog which, on top of everything else, he had paid his roommate to look after. He said he could care less about his other things, he just wanted his dog back. He never did get the dog back.

Our allotment garden association couldn't hold meetings since October 2019 due to Covid. This year we were allowed one and very happy about that. Yeah, this is true. I moved there for a little over a year. Within 3 hours I had 2 unsolicited conversations and both had racist topics up out of the blue. This place is also a child predators paradise, with my 9 year old daughter knowing at least 2 kids in a class of 30 getting molested. Called the school, where the secretary, who overheard my call to principal, actually called the kids parents. Police did.nothing. And the kids caught hell. This whole place needs to be investigated.

Sometimes there is no decency in the press. I used to work for a multi-publication publishing enterprise. A close friend shot himself on the anniversary of his own father's suicide. It was absolutely awful. I happened to mention that we had just seen him a few days prior at his cousin's house. Next thing I know, the editor of one of the newspapers comes up to me and asks me to call the cousin to get details of his death and quotes. I am guilty of setting multiple alarms... But from 2 am ????? Even non-insomniacs would be pissed off. Also, if your wife is insomniac, why would you continue to do this behaviour knowing her condition??

I've got a van that does not have a clear title and barely works that I'll end up giving away for free at some point. It has 190,000 miles on it. The heat doesn't work on the left side, the rear heat doesn't work, the power steering pump cooler is bypassed. The brakes are OK, tires fair, engine runs good. It may or may not be in my name. The DMV can't really tell. That one is going to be junked or given away eventually. I'm going to see if I can get 300k out of it.

CALL THE DNR! Or file reports on their website with photos. They WILL COME OUT n they will handle it. I've dealt with this in the past after someone I knew poisoned a ton of rabbits that them poisoned coyotes that then poisoned everything else that ate it... dead animals everywhere. The cops wouldn't do s**t but the DNR n Game warden came out n ended up arresting her n prosecuting her to the fullest extent. She had priors so she did some time n had to pay thousands in fines n they put her on an animal abuser list too. The DNR n game warden don't F**k around when wild life is getting harmed. Atleast in the places I've lived. But don't think you can't do anything. You can! This is exactly the type of stuff the DNR handles. They protect wildlife. That's their job. Make sure to take photos. They've got a nice little submission form on their website that takes 5 min. To fill out n they're usually very quick about poisoning wildlife! DO NOT IGNORE IT'

Legit, I filed the complaint on a Monday n they were out there before Friday! They even posted mailers to doors warning people of the poisonings and consequences of putting out poison n how to dispose of deceased wildlife properly n listed an emergency number in case people's pets were effected. They did not slack off one bit.

Not really sure why wearing a mask is such a big inconvenience for some people. I wear one every time there's an even remote chance I'll encounter other people and it's honestly not a big deal. It's a thick cloth one. Ok, in the height of summer it can get a bit stuffy after an hour or so in a supermarket, but at all other times I usually forget I'm even wearing one. I see so many people wearing them under their nose - not really sure if they're that stupid they don't know you breathe through your nose...

Seeing this, many of my shipmates got vaxxed thinking that they would be living their lives like 2019. No mask, no restrictions on gyms, concerts, bars, and travel. They got maybe 3 weeks of "freedom" and then they all started getting positive tests. Masks and restrictions back in force.

Unfortunately that was close to where I am. Good news! We have very good laws in NC about that stuff and I remember seeing so many people arrested for selling fuel without a license, price gouging, keeping in improper containers ( not that this was) storing too much gas in a residential area, ( was) and other things. Plus, on occasion, if people were seen filling more than one container, they took a real, honest to goodness chance that somebody would just beat them up on general principal. It happened, I go get the pictures if y'all want, maybe not this one time but others!!! Probably them as well. Cary, NC don't play.

A few years back during an especially cold winter our propane company started charging its customers 3 times what other companies were charging just because they could (they were investigated by the state). They also refused to fix our propane tank even though we could smell propane and could hear the propane gas hissing out of the pipes. They threatened to charge us extra when they picked up the tank for pumping out any remaining propane, even though it was empty because they wouldn’t refill it. We have a wonderful propane company now that respects its customers.

U.S. here, and in a lot of Midwestern states, we still allow kids to get a "learner's permit" at 14 or 15 because of the need for a farm kid to be able to drive on the farm. That only allows them to drive on public roads/streets when there is an adult (18 & older) with them in the vehicle. So this entitled little brat is probably 14 & close to her 15th birthday.
