Not every person is suited for parenthood, and that’s okay. What isn’t acceptable is choosing to raise a child even with the apparent lack of ability and willingness to do better.

Today, we’re putting a spotlight on toxic mothers. You’ll see screenshots showing their blatant disrespect for boundaries and privacy. Some may have even risked their kids’ health and well-being. Be forewarned, as a few of these are disturbingly wrong.

We’ve picked out these posts from this subreddit to highlight some of their behavior. Hopefully, none of you went through similar ordeals as children. If you’re a mom, let these bad parenting examples be your reminder of what to avoid at all costs.

It kind of blows my mind that in my lifetime I might see it go full circle. From when stuff like polio was still fairly common when I was a kid - to virtually wiped out - to back again due to willful ignorance. I just read a news article this week about how they are concerned about a rise in polio in Gaza due to the war causing crowding and open sewage situations plus unable to vaccinate many of the younger babies / kids due to the war.

I am not an anti-vaxer, I am vaccinated. A family I was a sitter for, Mother never vaccinated, children not vaccinated. They are healthy, they get sick and they get well just like everyone else. I just feel that not all people die in the mass death that some of you seem to think always happens. I am just saying.

Minimizing a child’s feelings is a common toxic mom behavior. Some are guilty of telling their kids not to feel a certain way because it is wrong. According to Florida-based psychotherapist Dr. Tracy Hutchinson, this sends a message that feelings are better off suppressed.

In an article for CNBC, Dr. Hutchinson recommends asking children what they think would make them feel better. She says this trains them to manage their emotions independently at a young age.

Water, imagination, and if you are lucky, a dose of the placebo effect. It's weird the placebo effect can still work even when we know we're taking a placebo. I've taken homeopathic remedies before. My thinking is, "There's nothing in it to harm me, but the placebo effect might well kick in, and that's good."

Homeopathy is an adult pretending to be a doctor but without all that useless fact stuff. And their evidence is second or third hand testimonials (testimony is the absolute poorest form of evidence by the way) a friends mom saw on an infomercial once and is now unswayable in the truth of what they ‘know’. lol

YES! My surprisingly speedy 18-mo old was weaned as soon as he began turning it into a "self-serve operation" by lifting my blouse up in public, lol/cringe. But there can be more than 1 reason to "turn off the taps" & switch to a bottle. My 9 mo. lost such privileges when she suddenly turned into JAWS, then would giggle when I'd yelp in pain. It was - albeit briefly - her favorite game. She'll make us 1st-time grandparents in just a few months & I'm so looking forward to enjoying Every Minute of her journey through parenthood!! 😁

    1) I know a woman who breastfed her kids until they were about 4yo. The kids still had regular foods at that age but would get breastfed for the night. Because she saw a video online from her vegan friends or something, that stated that it is the best for the kids. 2) all my 3 kids began to show signs that they were no longer interested in my milk from about 6-8 months. Which, funnily is about the latest time they will have 2 solid food-meals. 3) I believe strongly in listening to the child's signals and I always assume that moms who breastfeed way beyond the first birthday of their child are ignoring the signals or simply not seeing them at all. I could be wrong, though.

No, it's reasonable to call them by months up until their 2nd birthday. Then you switch to years. Even before that you say "almost two" but there's still such a difference in development month to month until about 2, that it does give a better idea of the child's developmental stage when you use months up until that age... but not past it.

It’s one thing to encourage your child to strive for excellence. Demanding perfection is when things can get problematic. Dr. Hutchinson says it could lead to confidence and self-esteem issues as they grow older.

“Build mental strength in your kids by making sure expectations are realistic,” she wrote. She adds that setbacks will only teach kids how to bounce back and hopefully lead them to success in the future.

Doctors proscribe all the best and most secret oils - go to a medical professional make it clear that you you will be administering ONLY essential oils and not providing any other help - if you put this in writing and sign it in front of witnesses they are then free to give you the secret free effective stuff that the MAN wants to keep a secret because it stops then selling their fake medicines.

Not just babies. When I was a child it seemed that every visitor to the house wanted to kiss me hello or goodbye. I’m phobic about human contact so I always stepped back and said no. My mum used to say “she doesn’t like people kissing her” in a way that meant, “she’s odd,” but she didn’t force me or tell me off. Why do people want to show affection to children by kissing them on the face? And some people are really persistent.

I literally just read a story today where a dad gave his 6-week-old HSV-1 because he thought it could only be transferred through areas with a mucous membrane and not regular skin, so he kissed the top of her head. A week later she's in the hospital getting IV antivirals. And that was the best-case scenario; apparently neonatal herpes has a 25% mortality rate, and that's WITH treatment.

Whooping cough is absolutely awful (I had it at 14) and I’m always so personally affronted and heartbroken when I hear about new outbreaks of it. Now I’m mid-30s with COPD. Makes me so mad at these parents.

All those people calling her a terrible mother; the fact is she made a mistake and REALIZED it and plans on learning from it. Everyone makes mistakes, and sometimes those mistakes lead to death and other horrific consequences. But many people in this situation would be saying "no, it couldn't have been prevented. It's all a conspiracy and they just want to implant us with microchips". But SHE isn't. To me that makes her a GOOD mother.

yes, you are a terrible mother, BUT to be honest, i was vaccinated as a kid too (it is not option to opt out of this in my country, no vacines no school/childcare help) and at the age of 33 still got whooping cough (probably from some antivax i meet on my comune to work, since everyone was coughing...)

Whooping cough is one of the vaccines that requires a booster. TDaP which covers tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis ( whooping cough) is recommended every 10 years.

Growing up with a toxic mom can have a profound effect on a person. According to licensed psychotherapist Christine Scott-Hudson, the inability to trust oneself is one of the few manifestations.

In her interview with Bustle, she says this mainly happens to people who dealt with a gaslighting mother. As a result, they could suffer a lifetime struggle with self-doubt.

As a kid who grew up poor AF that moment would stay with me forever. I would feel bad for the rest of my life about being pressured by a parent for food money. I was always afraid of taking food at other people's houses, conscious that I didn't have money. Their parents would come home and offer me some of whatever takeout they picked up and I'd have a french fry or two at most cause I'd be worried they'd ask for money to cover the cost. The mom is right though, in a way. In some countries, school for young kids is completely out of balance, with way too much sitting and cognitive tasks, and way too little moving around and too little things with using their hands and too little playfulness.

The key phrase here is "the way it is now". All scientific studies show that young children should be given much less schooling, with only the basics of counting, learning their letters and some reading being introduced. Formal education shouldn't start until the age of 7.

If you have a child with special needs, as I do, you want to start earlier so that when school does come, they are not starting from scratch or crazy far behind. My son has been doing schooling or some sort of services since he was 2. He still has significant delays which would be much worse if we did not get him the schooling he needed. I think Gen alpha could benefit from more schooling and who cares if the parents want to do it or not. Quit being lazy, your child will suffer for it.

I think that depends on the child. My son has special needs and there is no way he would have handled education younger. We actually held him back and that was after doing research, speaking with his specialists and even the educators at the kindy who knew him from occasional care. Yes he still struggles and is behind but his emotional and social development was just too lacking to be able to cope in an educational setting. BTW, I was doing home based education though and he was learning through his therapists too.

In Germany kids do not learn how to spell such words before real school at age 6. Preschool (what the US calls kindergarden) is for learning letters and numbers, not really spelling in earnest. And Kindergarten (what the US calls preschool) is a daycare to have fun, socialise and craft things…… So, I am of this mothers opinion, that kids do not need “schooling” before 6 if schooling is sitting still at a desk and listen to a teacher talk all day.

I was 4 when I started K. The old rule was to turn 5 by the end of the year. There were a handful of us who had bdays in late Nov and Dec, and we all started together at 4. My mother said that I regressed once I got to K. Being an only child who already had a library card and rarely around chidren my own age, I was precocious. Thus began a long and storied career as the girl that got 'too social during class' on report cards and had my seat moved.

The pre-schools my daughters went to (ages 3-4) was more about learning things like social skills, coordination, using your imagination. At only 3 hours a day, and only 4 days, with much of that for play or snack times, there wasn't a lot of schooling going on. There's no need to try to push them ahead of stuff they're going to be taught all over again once they enter Kindergarten. Our state has really been pushing to get full day kindergarten as a requirement. I'm glad it wasn't required for my girls. 5 years old is too young for all day school.

In France school is mendatory at 3yo. I don't think that my kids have a superior "attention span" than the kids from country where kindergarden starts ar 5yo but they still learnt a lot of things.

The inability to maintain healthy relationships or a constant attraction to toxic individuals is another by-product of having a toxic mom. New Jersey-based therapist Vanessa Watson-Hill says it’s because emotionally unavailable mothers fail to model a healthy relationship for their children.

Turns out she is my sons father (whom he has never meet also) wife. The messages just started to get crazier and crazier and after 33 years of no contact I had to get in touch with the family about the messages. Turns out she has mental health issues. Whether it’s about picking a major for college or choosing an ice cream flavor, indecisiveness isn’t always innate. Sometimes, a mother’s negative behavior could be a catalyst for developing such a trait.

That’s because moms greatly influence decision-making. According to research, those who’ve used psychological control as a primary parenting tactic may negatively impact their child’s sense of judgment when they reach their adolescent years.

I suggest that you add a bit of canola, sunflower or olive oil, when you cook his food. It is important that you stick strictly to these kinds of oils, and don't mix it with things such as hydraulic oils or engine oil... and though WD40 seems to be useful for almost everything, this is one of the rare exceptions.

Hospital food has really changed for the better. When I had my appendectomy years ago I held off my discharge until after dinner because I wanted that grilled chicken sandwich and knew I wouldn’t be able to cook for a while and husband can’t. Then last year when I was hospitalized for a severe infection I found I could call down and choose my meals. Of course they discharged me when I was going to have lemon chicken and rice pilaf for dinner! But that time I wanted out ASAP. I ate so well and healthy in the hospital. When my husband was in for the flu in 2011 he was offered a beer option as a drink because it didn’t interfere with his meds or treatment. He didn’t but it was hilarious! If I was giving birth I would want all the food and drink options possible.

I remember when I had my emergency C-section back in 2014. I had nothing prepared, no clothes, no support except for the amazing Mid wives& other specialists. Because my appt went on for 5hrs with not much to eat, they gave me a big meal to eat not realising that at 5:50pm is when I had my now Miss 9. As soon as I had her, my Social worker organised dinner plus 2 sandwiches to eat through out the evening.

People who grow up with toxic mothers carry that pain their entire life. This is the case for Randi Latzman, owner of the Surviving Mom blog. She created the site as an outlet for the abuse she endured. In one of her recent posts, she recalled the breaking point in their relationship.

I wonder how wanted that little girl will feel growing up. On the topic older mothers having kids, I have a relative who is the (unplanned) youngest of six siblings. She did not do well at all in school. Religious, never married. I remember her as being a nice person, not stupid, but naive. When she was about 40 she disappeared for about 15 years, total no-contact, until she suddenly moved back to her home state. She won't say much about those years, but apparently she'd been living in the house of a man and woman who wouldn't let her leave. It's easy to think that maybe her mother shouldn't have had a kid at an older age, sparing the daughter from an ordeal like that. But on the other hand, I have no idea whether or how she may have helped with other people in some way during her life. I don't have a conclusion, I just ponder this sometimes.

They don't know quite enough. A more sensible way to get around the 1hr timeout would have been to create a simple low-frequency oscillator with a 555 and some passives which would emulate the button being pressed, resetting the timeout. This would leave all of the safety features intact.

I have never seen and electric blanket that turns itself off. I guess they've gone the way of todays heating pads which also turn themselves off. Todays heating pads p**s me off because the lowest setting is still hotter than the 7 sons of hell. I can't imagine anyone using the high setting unless they're using it for a hot plate. Guess they're designed by toaster manufacturers who can't seem to comprehend how ridiculous the high setting is. No one eats burnt bread.

As a formerly home educated person, please stop calling "un-schooling" homeschooling. Educating your child at home is a massive responsibility and requires a lot of patience, whereas "un-schooling" is deliberately setting up your child to fail. IMO it's abusive, and these kids are going to resent their parents for the rest of their lives.

95% of Homeschoolers are completely sane. There are lots of homeschooling curriculum packages you can buy that has everything you need and independent testing outside of the home. And they’re not all for religious nuts. I considered homeschooling but realized I didn’t have the personality to do it. I was amazed at the flexibility homeschoolers have. A woman I know took her kids to D.C. when they studied government. You can get an excellent education through homeschooling as long as you’re willing to put in the work for your kids. Unschooling is just lazy and idiotic.

I went back to the small University town I was born and raised in for a small concert recently. Our public school system was and still is considered one of the top performing but is also liberal because of the area. I’m glad to see they haven’t been affected by the book bans that surrounding communities have started to fall prey to. We learned a lot about all the wars, slavery, the Holocaust…history, current events, science art and the upcoming computer age was highly encouraged. Unfortunately students these days aren’t allowed to learn half of the things I did. My husband is 6 years older than me, from a more conservative school system and I’m still teaching him things he wasn’t taught in school that fascinates him. He’s a smart guy, just didn’t get the same education. Home schooling in the wrong hands is dangerous and now public schools are too.

This sounds so very stupid, but getting vaccinated is a little bit like catching the disease, so maybe she could be contagious. I don't think so, but I think I can understand why this mother might. That her son is unvaccinated must be because children don't get vaccinated until a year old.

Dealing with a toxic mom may feel like coming to a dead end. According to psychotherapist Brittany Boufard in the same Bustle interview, the parent in question may resort to the same cycle of denying your feelings and rejecting the idea of change.

When the worst happens, most experts recommend seeking professional help. A licensed therapist or doctor could mediate the conversation as a third party. As Watson-Hill points out, a professional could also help adults gain a better understanding, especially about developing healthy boundaries.

Normally at around 2 months babies start 'coo'ing, and by 6-7 months they are making a variety of sounds. If by 9 months they are only making 'mmm's, 'ma' and 'mom' , the baby should be assessed for speech and language delays. (It might be everything is fine, but best to get it checked.)

Not all kids develop at the same speed as others. The stages of development list the average age, but it can vary by a few months with nothing being wrong. I have a nephew who started out slowly, with a 6 months difference as to how the average baby develops. He's 6 now and right on track with all the other kids his age.

I was an early and prolific talker (full sentences, and complex dinosaur names before a year) but behind on pretty much every physical milestone, like crawling and walking. we all mature differently. this child might have additional learning delays, but that doesn't make it okay for the parents to not accept them as they are.

If you are in a rabies area, and are bitten by an animal, then you go to a doctor, and follow their advice. Rabies is a horrible disease,. Once symptoms become apparent there is a 1% survival rate. Compare this to the treatment being 100% effective if given before symptoms appear.

Being a mum has nothing to do with vaginal birth, c-sections, or even squeezing them out of your belly button. Being a mum is about love, wiping tears, wiping bottoms, wiping snot (there's a lot of wiping in the early days). It's about singing silly songs, and reading the same book to your child 100 times in a row. It's about being there, doing the mum-ing, teaching them, and helping them to grow up into kind, loving adults who care about fairness and equality.

Provide a safe encouraging environment free of judgemental where your kid can explore and shape their identity. I think the obvious reasons are that 1. They are homophonic and obviously painted boy nails equals gay. And 2. The parents think it will reflect on their own image.

Mom needs to pick her battles carefully. Painting nails is among the most innocent of wild oats to sow. If it really bothers her, she should let him do it, and tell him it’s pretty cool. He probably will stop because it’s spoiling the fun of winding up his parents. Or you just ignore it completely because it’s a pretty small hill to die on.

I always volunteered the holidays for her and another older female married with adult children, no grand babies because we usually did holidays on the Saturday or <sunday. Guess who had my back when I had a lot of serious medical issues and needed to miss work for appointments? Yeah, no one. I got fired, which is illegal in my state. So yay unemployment. I’m still suffering from the issues, it was hard to address them properly pre pandemic when your bosses doubt you. At least now I have time for dr visits 🤦🏻‍♀️

I would check to see if there is anything funny going on. Kids will do this when they are being abused to make themselves "unattractive". Of course it might be stress, too scared to ask to go to the toilet, or too distracted to realise she wants to go. Might also be a regression because there is a baby at home and they want similar attention. I think we can agree spanking is a no no.

Might simply be because she’s distracted by everything else going on around her and doesn’t realize she has to go until it’s too late. At 5 she’s still pretty new to this potty thing. Cut the poor kid some slack

As a young children's educator, my first thought based on experience, is fear of exclusion. The child may know they need the toilet, but they are starting to form new friendships and worry that if they leave for the bathroom/toilet the other kids may move on in their play/forget them/don't want them back/move away physically so they can't find them again. Kids can often have accidents like pee and/or poop for many different reasons, medical or social/mental, it doesn't mean your kid is "wrong" or "bad". No matter which- don't f***ing hit your child!!

You could pull the entire tree out of your a**e and let her have judgement-free fun—you know, without crushing her fragile adolescent self esteem? You could also encourage her to practice, join an ensemble, or take lessons (make sure the teacher knows how to work with young voices in a healthy way). And ONLY pursue these things if she wants to, because nothing destroys a kid's interest in music faster than an overbearing parent shoving it down their throat.

Gives baby goats milk, baby gets get painful gas. So... Stop with the goats milk? I hope someone helped this poor baby. For anyone reading who doesn't know, if your baby needs supplementation before a certain age it's recommended to do formula only. Almost all other milk have things the babies can't digest and are also missing essential vitamins etc, it can cause serious problems to feed a baby anything other than breastmilk or formula.

And if she's using what's in the photo, it's not even baby formula goat milk, just regular powdered goat milk for your coffee etc.

That particular goat milk powder is not baby formula goat milk! She's basically giving that poor child the goat equivalent of ordinary powdered cows milk.

Ok, if a Dad is out of his wits here ... get it ... no expert either ... but a mother is a woman, who has an obviously, provenly so, working uterus, and with that comes the maintainance it performs on itself, and ... how can she not know such? Or at least have sort of a grasp about how to find out? After all, it's pads made to soak up a liquid. If they're too small in capacity, just change out for a new one. If they're oversized, don't wait to fill them up, but grab the next smaller sort next time, or so...? Anyway, that's something I consider not too hard to sort out.

She's pretty sure, her doctors are aware, even though she likely hasn't explicitly told them or lit one up in front of them, they must know. Even though she drowns herself in perfume before every appointment, they're clearly aware.

... and them being aware, without physically assaulting her hand holding a cigarette, is just about, like, kind of somewhattely the same'ish'ish, you know, as them approving of it, which is just about, kind of somewhattely the same'ish'ish, you know, as them prescribing it. To shorten the matters into reasonability, let's just skip all the kind-of-somewhat-agree'ishly being halfway in the know, and just say - "The Doctor told me to smoke! For the kids!"

Uh ... wait a minute here ... you could, if you plan to be pregnant, you could quit smoking beforehand? Or, now that is wild - reduce it, slowly - not too slow, of course - phase it out, like they do when the surgeries are done, you're one piece again, and the last year of being stitched and cut and rearranged is finally over, you reduce your morphine by little steps in order not to provoke unnecessary withdrawal symptoms, even more so if there's no psychlogical addiction in place. And you can do the same with cigarettes, going from a pack a day to one or two, I have seen many pregnant women who just weren't able to stop completely and at once do. It's not that one cigarette will make your child lose a kidney and grow another eye or so, but every one does a little damage, and many of that damage, as above, don't result in visibly, perfectly tracable mutations, but ... a little damage done every time. They'll weigh a bit less, the more you smoke, the greater the difference. They'll be a tad shorter, they might have a compromised immune system, and just generally, their body has to take a toll for Ma and her collection of habits. A glass of wine, to fall asleep easier? Yeah, granted, just ditch the 2nd glass and the shots afterwards? Not how it works. Consider yourself lucky if there's no explicitely smoke related damage, but ... I don't see a valid reason to press luck and to strain a developing organism by throwing a load on it that is both toxic and unnecessary. I understand that somebody, while pregnant, having an arm torn off would or should not refuse morphine from the ambulance, but somebody who appears regularly-healthy, at least not heavily damaged, and a drüg with no medical value to it, is a different picture altogether.

Even though those in the US are charged for an ambulance ride and an ER visit, payment isn't demanded/mandatory prior to them taking you to a hospital or receiving treatment, at said hospital. She could have and should have brought her kids to be seen by medical professionals, this iust seems like laziness on the mom's part, imho. They likely have health insurance, which can help with the cost of medical expenses and if not, it doesn't mean one should forgoe much needed emergency care. I hope those poor kiddos were able to get the medical care they needed.

... you know, they have those ... vans ... the ones usually referred to as "ambulance". They have a surprising feature that really is to come in handy here, they're, like, movable to your location, they're able to pick up damaged persons, and eventually offtorn parts thereof, and they even have a habit of reaching the nearest, best-matching hospital in the shortest time safely, and they're equipped to perform a lot of stuff on the way already, ... you know ... one might even assume that those vehicles are made for that purpose, and the people riding in it, they seem to have training and knowledge about many different medicalities, so ... you know those things often referred to as "telephone". They really exists, most likely you even have one yourself ... and now's the true hammer about this statement - everybody knows their number! Free to call! You could, now, act like you'd care, and while you play caring, you could also play calling, and follow through with the entire act!

911 or an ambulance might be a bit to the extreme side for an infected wound. Where I am, there are hotlines you can call all times of day (and night) to talk with a doctor about something minor. But if the child hasn't seen a doctor since it was ran over by a car, depending on exactly what happened, the ER might be a good idea to look for unidentified injuries, like broken bones, concussions etc.

I applaud their industry. Good for them. Informed parents are a good thing. The truth is not damaged by more information! Vaccines are risk/benefit like anything else. The vast majority of the time the benefits outweigh the risks. But to deny the risks is uninformed. When studying vaccines make sure you understand the pathogen they protect against. You can’t assess benefit without understanding the other side of the equation. And talk to your doctor. They can answer many questions you have.

Reading the things vaccine makers are legally required to write out or write because of the fear of lawsuits doesn't seem the best way to get the full picture. You're only reading the negative stuff and not the positive.

When my daughter fell off a horse, hit her head and couldn't remember anything and was screaming about her head and back hurting and how she couldn't move I just put some essential oils on her. Just kidding. I immediately called 9-1-1 and she was life flighted to the Children's hospital. 2 week stay and she's back up and riding again.

Way ro set your kid up for failure. Kids don't "naturally teach themselves to read". And kids who are abandoned at young ages and don't have any human interaction end up as feral children.

There are children who really do teach themselves to read, friends of mine had one of them who picked it up from picture books that his parents read to him -- they didn't even point out the words as they read, absolutely no pushing on their part! But those kids are rare exceptions!!!

Some children teach themselves to read, but in that case it happens despite the harsh conditions they grew up under, not because of them. Learning on your own means that you have to make all the mistakes yourself. Learning from someone with experience, who has already been down all the wrong roads and can steer you away from them is a lot easier and a lot faster. That means that you can get farther with the limited time you got.

My parents left us while we were sleeping in a cabin in a camping site. They went walking around the lake, found a party and stayed there. My then 4yo sister had a nightmare, woke 2yo and I (6yo) because she coudn't find pour parents, maybe the had abandonned us ? I had to calm my sisters down and keep saying "don't worry, everything is alright" while being terrified and fightint to hide it. My sister (then 4yo now 39) had bring this story up countless time but my parents always claimed they were "really close" (so close they coudn't hear their 3 daughters crying 🙄). Even after Maddie McCann was kidnapped my mother still thinks they did nothing wrong.

We don't often have someone to look after our child, so we have home date nights. We dress up, make a cheese board, crack a bottle of wine and put on a movie. Bonus prize of not having to deal with the public or have to make our way home.

It's not that the child sleeps through and wouldn't know, but some factors like the house burning down, a tornado coming through or the house being flooded by a tap left on, or even something basic like the child may wake up sick.

In this story I was about 4 years old. My Mam had put me to sleep. Once I was asleep I was ASLEEP. A while later, she realised she'd left washing drying in the back garden. She went out of the house for less than 5 minutes, and at no time was more than 10m from the back door. But during this time, I had woken, come down stairs, and she found me in the middle of the sitting room, sobbing uncontrollably. I felt terrible, she felt terrible. She never again left the house when there were young children asleep.

The antibiotics are to stop any infection from spreading. A cavity will be harbouring bacteria and the tooth will leave behind a ragged hole in the gum and possibly the jaw bone. It is stupidly easy to get blood poisoning (Sepsis) from mouth surgery including extractions. Your child could lose limbs, face tissue, or organs can shut down and they die.

Additionally, most numbing agents used in dentistry are actually less effective when there is infection in the area. The infection is the more dangerous issue, but there is a very high possibility that she will not be fully numb when they pull it.

Do you not know how close the teeth are to the brain. The longer an infection goes untreated the closer it gets to the brain. Did anyone ever tell you to not pick at pimples near the nose and upper lip. They call that area the triangle of death. Because it has a very rich blood supply and a lot of avenues to the brain. This applies to the mouth as well. You think natural is the way to go, I hope the natural sentence for neglect and child abuse are death as well.

I had three and each one slightly bigger than the last. I would not have noticed if they hadn't been weighed. Just eat healthy and let the body do what it needs to do!

Ocean water is not clean. Looks like sand in uncomfortable places; I wonder if she had an infection afterwards. Did the baby inhale any of the water? Were sharks circling nearby?

Depends on where in the world she lives. Here the spiders aren't really seriously venomous and generally rather harmless to humans. Going to the ER over a spider bite would be to overreact in some locations, but should be done as quickly as possible at other places, where everything is trying to kill you.

Yes - take the spider to urgent care - taking it's fluid may have weakened it and put it in danger.

Took my kid to urgent care for the same thing g recently. Doc felt his leg to check if the infection had begun tunneling. Since it wasn't he said oral antibiotics would get rid of it just fine, but if it had tunneled we would have needed to go to ER for IV antibiotics

Nothing draws out poison. What an idiot. I wonder how they'd feel if their advice resulted in death because the other person elected to listen to that garbage instead of seeking medical assistance? My son got bitten, most likely by a wolf spider (most common in our area). Dermatologist had to cut his arm open and insert a wick to draw out the infection. Think it took 3 in total before closing the incision with surgical glue. It just so happens it was in the middle of a tattoo and once it healed it wasn't even visible.

she is depressed and struggling with cancer.... not exactly the best condtions to make great moms. Babies are a joy (for some people) but they are also a burden, and takes a lot or resources for a good outcome, and it doesn't sound like your friend has a lot of resources right now to share. Cancer is a serious illness, which often results in people dying. Tossing a helpless baby into the mix, doesn't sound like a good idea, when there is a serious risk that its mother could soon be dead and gone, so it doesn't sound like you can be sure it will be a lifelong home, and even if things turns out for the better for your friend, it doesn't sound like the best home such a child could get. Not to mention how selling children is illegal, and for a good reason.

There are a number of bodily mechanisms in place to prevent a baby drowning whilst being born. A baby will continue to receive oxygen through the umbilical cord. Have a read about it all, it's rather fascinating. https://thewomens.r.worldssl.net/images/uploads/fact-sheets/Water-birth.pdf

    Jon Steensen
    Community Member
1 year ago Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

yes, but not forever though. The umbilical cord is connected to the placenta that is connected to the tissue of the womb, until birth. The oxygen supply comes from the mother's body while they are still connected, but as the placenta comes out after the baby, that link is broken, and after a short period of time the baby needs to breath in order to get an alternative source of oxygen.

"I would have never seen this comming..." well that is because you did not educate yourself. There is a reason why homebirths are not more common than they are. Giving birth is dangerous, it has killed several women throughout history, and that is why it is good idea to do it at a location where all the experts and equipment is already at standby. Modern medicin has done a lot to lower the mortality associated with giving birth, be grateful for that, or at least don't whine when things go haywire when you decline the assistence you were offered.

This happened to me in like 1992, right when the cpox vaccine was coming out. Me and half my 2nd grade class went down at the same time. Idr which kid or parent but it was a bday party and most parents had to have known. I got chicken pox from other kids at daycare before my parents could take me to get my shot and I would rather have gotten the shot. Before the vaccine a pox party made sense because kids would usually not get as sick as adults but now you can just get the shot. Anyway had a bad time and I've still got some weird scars on my hands from it.

My dickass dad let my little sister get burned. I was 4, she was 1. I got sunscreen, she was too young apparently and he let her burn. She's 37 now, no cancer, but bad skin.

Lol I think it's a way for people to get around possible censors/filters? A Bloomberg article is the *only* thing I could find even closely relevant to the topic. Anti-vaxxers have had limited platforms (according to the site), so they use emojis or generic terms to evade moderators. funnily enough, i was on goat's milk as a baby (mixed with formula). when we moved to the US, i wasn't able to process cow's milk because i'd never had it before. my mum was able to find one store that sold goat's milk, and titrated cow's milk with it until i was used to it. this was all done at a doctor's direction.

Homemade formula used to be very common. When companies started making safe, nutritious formula milk it was very gladly received by parents who were unable to breastfeed their babies. There's rafts of dietitians ensuring babies needs are met, and the product is safe.

Plus - it was kind of a death sentence if a baby needed "formula" - that was the reason for the wet nurse in those times (except for rich people who didn't want to do it) So formula, which was strictly for sick babies or babies with no other options, were a life saver at the start.

Never had to childproof my home because we raised our kids to understand places are off limits and not to do certain things..

this is one isn't TOO crazy. I mean yeah 15 is kind of young for tattoos, but at the same time, my sister let her daughter get one when she was 16. The kid was going to try and get it anyway, so my sis just figured she'd rather have her go to a legit tattoo artist rather than whatever my niece would have been able to find by herself (her friends were talking about buying a tattoo kit online T.T). Sis said she can always get it removed later if she really regrets it, but now niece is 19 and has five more tats, so she doesn't regret it yet.....

I used to work with troubled teenagers. There was a girl there that got a tattoo of a cupcake on her ankle. When she was 9! Her parents gave her the tattoo. It was god-awful too.

Kids brains are still developing at this point. Just put it off a few years. If she still wants it then she can do it. It doesn't hurt anything to wait

It's best not to expose your baby to the chemicals used in a nail salon. Why do you think the workers have been wearing masks since long before Covid?

Why is it here ? Cinnamon rolls are pretty harmless, but it is better to ask than to eat something dangerous. Would you also think it strange if she asked about sushi ?
