It's no secret that our society has its flaws - dependence on technology, taxes, obesity, devaluation of workers - to name a few. Some people may not even want to think about any of these problems in society but illustrator John Holcroft, on the other hand, he looks them straight in the eye and depicts them in a satirical way.

Though not all of us have to deal with such problems, it is a great reminder to pace yourself and to familiarize with the society today. Who knows, it might make you a better person in some way.

With a style based on 50's advertisements and a vintage feel - Holcroft perfectly captures today's social issues and modern behavior. Also, his illustrations do so in a brutally honest manner. Keep on scrolling to check them out, and you just might realize with what social media problems you have to deal every day.

Over controlling parents? ?

Barbara Goolsby
Community Member

I think it also has something to do with parents who have your life path planned out for you. see all the arrows on the backpack? I see them as all the ways the kid could go but the parents direct it down one path, leaving no freedom of making your own decision.

Some parents I have seen, just try and control every aspect of their child's life, and then those children grow up to be over entitled assholes.

I think it's more of a brainwashing, or not thinking outside the box. Preconditioning the child to go the same way they did.

This one is bullshit if it's referring to today's kids. They get away with SO much more these days with next to no punishment if at all. These kids are now becoming adults and are taking the world down with them because of this.

I feel lucky to have never experienced this.. I never rebelled as a teenager because although my parents made sure I knew right from wrong, they never forced me to do what I didn't want to do. I might not be a doctor or a lawyer, but I'm happy with the job I have and my parents are proud of me.

To an extent, this is how it SHOULD be. Good parents aid their children in their formative years, rather than expecting them to just "deal with it".

life is an imposition. One day nature will stop us from reproducing; no more food, rock falling from space, killer virus, supervolcano,...? We should be really smart and compassionate and stop it all ourselves. But life is ridiculous and we will put misery on the world as long as we're physically able, so very sad.

I think this one represents paying rent, we all know that is a huge waste of money. Paying a mortgage on a home is an investment, when you sell you get your money back and more...this picture is shredding money, meaning it's not coming back to you in a usable fashion.
