Things change. Whoa, that’s a real shocker, I know, but bear with me! The fact of the matter is that even the things, places, and people we love most in the world change over time. It’s inevitable. However, while some things improve and mature like good wine set down to age in your fancy castle cellar, others… well, others age like cheap milk, left out on a sunny windowsill for far, far too long.
Redditor Open-Outcome-660 went on r/AskReddit with an intriguing query, asking others to share the things that they think used to be great but have become incredibly bad since then. The question instantly hooked internet users and the thread got over 3.4k responses.
It all came flooding out, from people sharing that MTV has steadily gone downhill over the years to folks pointing out that the internet is no longer as great as it was in the good old days. Have a read through some of the best responses to the thread and upvote the opinions you agree with, dear Pandas. The history Channel. I used to watch it in the 2000s. Now it's all swamp people and aliens
We call it the Hitler Channel because it seems that is all they air in the late winter and early spring.
Yep. When I noticed how Hitler-centric it became, I moved on.
Load More Replies...This is a result of a horrible decision in 2009. That year, A&E (owner of the History Channel) bought Lifetime Networks and put their former president who came from TBS in charge of programming. Part of the sale conditions was upper management got new jobs. This person came from a network where content only existed to sell commercials instead of commercials being there to pay for content. Crazy guys with bad hair talking about aliens building the pyramids is more entertaining to the casual viewer than a 45 year old woman carefully explaining how sand displacement of a rolling surface and wedges were used to move blocks. Suddenly an educational loss leader for Hearst and Disney's package to cable providers was producing a good profit and the truth was lost.
Almost all of the Channels owned by Discovery have gone to absolute sh*t. They completely sold out. Channels that once were educational and interesting have all turned into mind numbing crap flooded with pimple popping, dwarfs, 90 day fiancés, ghosts and men with 10 wives.
I take it you’ve heard of their show in development called “Pimple-Popping Polygamous Ghosts.”

The Smithsonian channel is a Good Alternative. Of course, they do tend to play a lot of shows focused on plane crashes & the causes of said crashes.
I’m obsessed with those plane crash shows. I’d much rather watch an NTSB nerd enthuse about failure analysis than watch sister wives complain about their life choices.

The last good show the History Channel really had was probably The Vikings. Which aired like 7 years ago. The National Geographic channel, despite the fact that they really love veterinary shows and any show involving life in Alaska or the Arctic Circle, does sometimes have really good documentaries.
According to redditor Open-Outcome-660, the reason why the question resonated with so many people was that it's a spin on an age-old statement. "I really didn’t expect my question to gain as much traction as it did, but, in retrospect, the reason for it is that it’s the age-old statement of 'things were better in the past' turned into a question," they told Bored Panda.
I wanted to find out more about the inspiration behind the question and the redditor was more than happy to talk about it. "The question started when I was browsing through YouTube one morning and got frustrated by how polluted the platform has become of ads," they mentioned something that many of us can relate to. "Most videos had multiple commercials. Most commercials were 20 seconds long. Even 5-second videos had at least 5 seconds of commercials before I could watch them. Naturally, my first thought was that this platform had gone from great to worse. My second thought was what went up on Reddit: 'Is there anything else that’s had this trajectory?'"
Appliances. Used to be made to last. Now they're just made to last the warranty.
I don't know, I'm in S. Korea, and the microwave we bought in 2011 is still showing no signs of dying. Each smartphone I had, except for one, I changed only because they started getting outdated, and, as the software becomes more and more demanding, you need better memory and storage. Same goes with computers and tablets. We changed our fridge in 2016 for a similar reason (simply needed a bigger one, the previous one was really tiny, but still fine and working), and it's still as good as new. Same goes for the freezer, and the laundry machine. Our TV, bought in 2017, still no signs of dying. Air conditioner, bought in 2016, still strong. So..... either you are unlucky with faulty products, either you live in an environment that's unfriendly to appliances, or you need to learn better maintenance.
All of your appliances fall into the category I would call "still smelling of the box they came in." Durable goods should have a lifespan measured in decades, or thousands of hours of operation. I demand no less than 30 years of service from something so elemental as a refrigerator, microwave, or vacuum cleaner. Technology which is still actively evolving may be permitted a shorter life. However, being satisfied with an air conditioner from 2016 (5 years old) because it hasn't died yet is demonstrative of the problem our global society has with happily disposing of things. My mother is an excellent example: Washer/dryer, 1984. Microwave, 1984. Refrigerator, 1989. Dishwasher, 1995. Vacuum cleaner, 1974. TV, 2006. etc.
Load More Replies...Planned obsolescence, ought to be outlawed globally. My 1980’s microwave just now died this year. (cue TAPS).
Regulating it looks like a nightmare, You'd basically have to have regulations regarding every single component on a PCB and what standards they should comply with. Then you'd have to do that with all components with different standards for different applications.
Load More Replies...Our landfills are being filled with so many "disposable" items that were once built to last. Gee, I wonder if this is adding to the climate catastrophe.
It's all about profit. The love of money is the root of every issue we have. And the saddest part is is that money is not needed to live on this planet. We are already born into a world with every resource that we all need to live and thrive. Without money being an issue. Money was just created to divide and conquer.
So true! My grandma bought one and only refrigerator for lifetime. It would be just fine, but our electrical network has changed, so I had to buy a new one. It lasted about 3 years and was garbage after that. No way to repair it. My mother NEVER bougth any refrigerator, beacuse she used my grandma's. It hapenned again with my kitchen. Less than 5 years of daily use. And I had to throw it away and buy a new one. Not due lack of mantainance, but for crap quality materials. The inner iron tubes had MELTED.
I worked at an appliance repair service, and was complaining about the disposability of things like major appliances and hot water tanks. Hot water tanks where I live start at about $350, but he explained that if they were to make them the same now, they would cost a couple thousand. Fact is, most people can't pony up a couple grand when their hot water tank craps out. So they make them more affordable, but then they don't last as long. It's sadly a trade off
In the UK purchase of new boilers is being banned soon and we'll have to buy air or earth source heat pumps instead at a massively higher price. Definitely can't afford one. It worries me.

Internet in general. I used to be able to search Google for a subject and then get a list of reliable websites to read from. Now it's 99% crap infomercials/ad ridden sites that all want to sell me things I don't need.
I was going to suggest DuckDuckGo. There are wonderful for searching and they don't allow any kind of ad tracking.
Load More Replies...Google search has really become terrible. The main reason for it is SEO. Sites that are better funded will come earlier in the results even though they are only related to the search. There are other search engines that seem to be somewhat better.
Load More Replies...It is about your search engine, not "the internet." Try using a couple of different ones and you'll get some results that don't overlap each other. Correctly limiting your search helps a lot. If you don't know how to do that, check your public library (yes, the book place) for books - e or otherwise - to help you learn how. Also, speaking as a retired librarian, we know how to search effectively and most professional librarians will be glad to help you improve your searches too, no charge.
I hate Pinterest with a passion.Sometimes i want to search for something and the first 5-6 results are from that s**t.
Use an Ad Blocker. It's still crap with unrelated search results but there is practically no ads
Strange to think that anyone uses the web without an adblock these days.
Load More Replies...Honestly, what this tells me is that you haven't kept up with how to properly use the internet. You haven't learned how to refine searches or use Boolean searches. The internet is JUST as information laden as in the past. Even more so. You just have to actually learn how to use it. It hasn't aged poorly - but it seems like some of its users have when they complain about it.
In Open-Outcome-660's opinion, nostalgia definitely plays a role in how we perceive how things were in the past. "If I could go back in time momentarily to compare things, I’m pretty sure I’d like many of today’s things more. I’d probably also discover things I really don’t like about the old experience. It’s probably easy to look back with nostalgia goggles since we probably have a very selective memory when we make comparisons," they shared. However, that's doesn't mean that some things weren't objectively better in the past.
"Nevertheless, I definitely think that there are truths in people’s thoughts of some things being better back in time. In my case, I definitely think that YouTube has become a worse experience in terms of its ads. In other cases, people might experience that their society has become worse in some aspects, and that may very well be true. It’s not the whole truth, but the factors may be sufficiently big to put on those nostalgia goggles and determine that the whole thing is worse now," the redditor mused.

Patriotism. It used to feel like a good thing to be proud of my country, to be grateful for the blessings of living here, trusting that our government is at least trying to do the right thing. But now this has devolved into this nasty "My country first, best, and alone" crap, all others are bad, wrong, and are enemies. It doesn't have to be that way.
As a Russian, I strongly agree. Not that we ever trusted the government much but it's got a lot worse now...
I agree. The USA is so polarized that showing any patriotism is seen as agreeing with every terrible thing that has happened here past, present, and future by one side and even the smallest criticism of US policy is seen as hating American and needing to leave because you could not possibly love the USA except blindly and unconditionally by the other side. No chance of a rational discussion if you disagree even slightly with one side or the other. Very, very sad.
“The difference between patriotism and nationalism is that the patriot is proud of his country for what it does, and the nationalist is proud of his country no matter what it does; the first attitude creates a feeling of responsibility, but the second a feeling of blind arrogance that leads to war.” ― Sydney J. Harris
Thank you for this explanation. I think Germany needs to know this. My country is so afraid of being seen as Nationalists that they are mortally afraid of being patriotic. But I think we should be proud of what we've accomplished. Our country has come so far these last decades. I love living here.
Load More Replies...African here living in the US for the past 5 yrs. I do respect the average Americans love for their country. However I can't stand the thought that "America is the best at everything". I knew a lady who was convinced that no other country in the world had religious freedom. I very gently told her that there are a good number of countries with more religious freedom than the states. She showed such a lack of knowledge of any other country or culture I actually felt sorry for her. And she was a educated person. And don't even get me started on how many Americans think Africa is a country!
I've seen so many comments online from Americans who think every other country in the world is worse than them in freedom, technology, general standards of living, etc. And if they acknowledge a country *is* just as good as them, it's only because America made them that way. I don't understand how anyone can believe things like that.
Load More Replies...I think it's because there are too many parties telling people lies about their countries. Almost every country is falling apart in extreme groups. There's only left and right, black or white, without any middle or grey. And when you're left, you do not need to listen to someone from the right, because they are wrong anyway. You can't have a real discussion when everyone is shouting over each other. You even see it in the debates on TV. No one has the decency to let their opponent finish their sentence or make their point. They all look like the Biden Trump debate.
Things that I consider patriotism are looking at the harsh realities, the wrongs of your country and trying to acknowledge them and make things better. And we also need to realize that we are all human beings. We are all brothers and sisters. The dividing lines at the borders are all arbitrary and man-made. We need to care about people on earth and animal welfare. I hate when people get nationalistic because of where they are from. Through an accident of birth on a random spot on the planet earth you were born on one side of an imaginary line. You didn't accomplish anything by doing that. And the person on the other side of that line didn't choose to be born there either. We need to have compassion for all and stop thinking in terms of us vs. them.
Same with the English flag. It's almost synonymous with white racist now, which is a shame.
Load More Replies...In America, the Trump Trash have ruined patriotism and our flag. The irony of their words fall flat in the light of their actions.
It's come to a point that if I see a house flying an American flag, I have to actively NOT assume they're racist Trump supporters.
Cooking websites. Everyone knows the struggle of scrolling through 273 paragraphs of bulls**t before getting to the recipe, but now some actual antichrist websites are putting a 2nd page inside the first where after you get past the 273 paragraphs it’s like “now click here for the recipe”. Rage inducing.
"Do you want to know my baking secrets? Well, first you have to read my entire family history, then guess which of these is the correct link to the recipe which is actually a video on my vlogging channel which has more ads than actual content."
I hate that. Then, when you *finally* get to their video - here they are again. Talking more about how they came about with the color chartreuse in their bathroom longer than the actual cooking. That's when I keep hitting the right arrow to skip... or, with frustration, I start looking for another site.

Load More Replies...Why not just go to a recipe site then? Why do you require content creators to cater to your preferences? Someone writing a food blog is doing their best to be creative, original, and entertaining. If you just want a list of ingredients, then go to those sites. Don't visit someone's blog - that they worked hard on, wrote, edited, photographed - and whine that they use too many words for you. It's not all about ad revenue, clicks, search optimization, and affiliate links - there are tens of thousands of people just trying to be helpful or entertaining. I am so sick of this same complaint over and over. Don't like the blog? Don't go. The end.
This is the worst. Put ingredients, then recipe WITH measurements inside, so I don't have to scroll up everytime to verify amount.
While it can be a lot of fun to whine about how bad things have gotten, from time to time, it's best not to forget that there are plenty of positives in life, too. I wanted to get Open-Outcome-660's opinion about what things have gone from bad to great.
"There’s a whole lot of things that have turned from really bad to great. One example is acquiring knowledge, where just a few decades ago, everything would have to be gained either through books or lectures; whereas now it’s at your fingertips. Another example is ease of living: fixing things such as buying things online, signing contracts, picking a movie to watch, or listening to music has become a lot easier, safer, and more accessible compared to a couple of decades ago. A third example would be ease of travel, where nowadays it’s quite easy to get by with English around the globe, flights are cheaper and things are waaay easier to book, find reviews on and look up at a moment’s notice if needed," the redditor shared what things have definitely improved with time.
Flying. From the incredible shrinking seat, crazy people, covid, no food, baggage fees, carry on fees to questions about planes safety.
I am old enough to remember when flying was a really elegant way to travel. We dressed up... we were polite to one another and to the cabin attendants.
I remember my first trip on an airplane. And my most recent. the difference is... disheartening.

I flew from LA to London on Norwegian Air and the only thing I got as part of the price was a a small bottle of water. That's an 11 hour flight. I paid for my seat, or I got a seat next to the toilet. I paid to take a bag on to the plane. I paid to put a bag into the hold. I brought my own food and chose not to pay for the seat TV entertainment or wifi. Oh the air was free...
I used to love flying - even in coach, but it'll be train rides for awhile. When's the last time you read about a brouhaha on a train?
One of my favorite memories of riding Amtrak to see my family was hanging out in the lounge car. There were almost always a couple of random instrument-carrying people who had never before met having an impromptu jam session. It's beautiful when humanity gets it *right*! :)

Corporations are going to be greedy. They're in the business of making money. Expecting morality from them is futile. Their leaders have fiduciary responsibilities to maximize return to shareholders. If they don't do that, they will be fired and in some cases can face civil action. If we want better behavior from corporations, government has to mandate it.

MTV. It was so good back in the 90s. Actual music videos, shows that featured artists, MTV Unplugged, Daria, Beavis and Butthead, Aeon Flux, TRL, Celebrity Death Match... Then Pimp My Ride and Cribs were pretty fun though it was the start of reality tv style shows
Beavis and Butthead and Celebrity Death Match were brilliant. It's a shame, a damn shame I tells ya!
I was in middle school when MTV originally launched - all videos and nothing else. The cornerstone of my teen years!
I remember when it was 90% music. It is supposed to be Music Television, sheesh.
Right?? It's literally right there in the fvcking NAME!!
Load More Replies...they really shouldn't be allowed to have "Music" in their name at all
Load More Replies...Yes! I can't remember if it was MTV that had 'pop up video', but I enjoyed that too with all the wee facts
Load More Replies...I don’t know why they call themselves MTV anymore when all it is now is teen mom back to back
I read about MTV a while back, because I was curious why it got worse, and the answer was... Money. When people could just find the music video they wanted online, the appeal of MTV quickly faded away, and the channel stopped making money. They then started to air reality shows, since that still drew a crowd (and still does, regardless of what people on the internet claims). So, the short answer to why MTV got bad is that YOU stopped watching.
They started that move way before videos were easy and cheap to find online. MTV had the first modern reality TV show, The Real World (1992), followed by Road Rules; plus game shows (Remote Control and Lip Service); talk shows with Andy Warhol and Jon Stewart; comedy/sketch with Ben Stiller and Pauly Shore; and there was Liquid Television, Celebrity Death Match, Ren & Stimpy, The Monkees and My So Called Life. MTV pivoted because licensing videos was expensive and ppl switched channels during ads, which eats into revenues. They needed programming to hold eyeballs through commercials, that was the real issue. Of course they aren't going to come out and say their business model was bad to begin with. Of course they are going to push a narrative that music videos could be found online. But that simply was not their primary motivation.

Streaming services online, Netflix was op back in the day, now you have to have 15 different services if you want to watch all your shows
True, I have Netflix and Prime but not Disney or anything else. I'm not sure what other streaming services are available in the UK. The costs add up
Simply buy one service each year (or month or semester), watch what you want and then stop the subscription and pass on to another service. Ive been doing it for several years now.
Load More Replies...You could always just not watch so much TV. Netflix already has enough TV for a lifetime.
This, subscription packages are the worst. Oh you want to use an excercise bike? That'll be 3000$, plus 30$ a month. Want a juicer? 1000$ plus subscription for deliveries of QR code juice bags! Want heated seats with your BMW? You gotta pay 50$ a month and be connected to your BMW account! You'll lose your heated seats when in a tunnel, but it's the price to pay to be on the cutting edge!
In fairness you can get all 15 subscriptions and still be well cheaper than cable. Cable is the real "aged like milk."
Cable and internet are rip offs-especially spectrum with endless new monthly fees and reduced rates for new customers only. Sucks..
About to cut the cable cord with spectrum. Going to Philo and Disney+
Load More Replies...So your complaint is that TV streaming service is not a monopoly?
"Thinking from this other perspective also made me realize that we often compare things in the past with the time they were in. It’s a bit hard for me to say that the internet was really bad a couple of decades ago because that was a part that society and those technological times. If we somehow got to swap the internet experience today with 20 years ago, I think it’s pretty safe to say that the experience would have been perceived as going from great to really bad."
There’s no shame about being nostalgic for the good old days. Most of us are guilty of it. (Some, like me, are a tad guiltier than others, but hey, I loved the ‘90s and early 2000s.) In fact, nostalgia can be incredibly comforting. However, there does come a point when reminiscing about the past can become problematic.

Yes, I use it that way. We have a network of Biker groups across the UK, and it's a quick and easy way of staying in touch, passing on news and advertising events.

In many groups you'll never see anyone you know irl.
I can't remember the last time I used Facebook. I don't use Twitter either. Earlier today I read that police officers in LA are now stopping people and asking for their social media name (there's a word for it I think but I don't know what it is), even people they don't suspect have committed any crimes. I wonder, if you say you don't have any will they think you're lying?
Hollywood. They ran out of ideas.
They haven't, it's just that the executives of AAA movies prefer safe options.
This is true. I'm a Reader for one of the biggest screenwriting contests. I have read many, many GREAT original scripts from independent writers that will never see the light of day.

The problem is the mid-budget movie is no longer financially viable. In the old days, you could take risk on a Movie like "Star Wars" because it could take its time making its money back for you. The first release of Star Wars was 48 weeks with the average run of 18 weeks in a theater before it would move to the next one. Now, you have to make back pretty much your entire budget first weekend and that includes all the money you spent on ads. You have to spend that money on ads because its most likely your movie will only be in theaters for 3-4 weeks so you can't count on word of mouth anymore. That means you have two choices - make a $ 4 million movie that will make you $4.1 in a month with a 90% of doing it or make a $200 million blockbuster that could you make you $300 in the first month but has 50% chance of succeeding. "Jungle Cruise" cost $200 million to make and its made $194 million. On the 3-day Labor Day weekend 4 weeks after it was released, it made $6 million.
It isn't the writers, it's the beancounters. The Life of Brian only got made after George Harrison mortgaged his house.
They didn't run out of ideas, studios have the rights to plenty of new properties. They just figured out that people are easy to please and it's cheaper to recycle the same thing over and over. Its our fault cause we keep watching this crap and handing them our money.
Knowing how to act is so overrated... Just make sure you're looking good and are somewhat interested in the lines you're reciting.

Thrifting. All the rich kids ruined it.
I am a huge advocate of thrifting, it decreases the demand for new clothing and fast fashion. Completely fine with rich people thrifting too because it is environmentally responsible and reduces the demand for exploitative labor.
The problem I think is when they go thrifting and then resell the objects at a higher price.
Load More Replies...It's the resellers. Thousand of videos on it. All of these reseller platforms now too. So it is people with money buying things marked up from the old thrift store prices buying from these platforms.
Yeah this. My local Cancer research shop sold a first edition of Mrs Beeton's cookbook for a couple of pounds. The buyer then Ebayed it for some tens of thousands. So now they check the price of everything and charge based on that. Not affordable anymore.
Load More Replies...It's not the rich kids that ruined it, it's the speculators that buy up all the good stuff and sell it at a premium. Plus, shows like P**n Stars and Antiques Roadshow and sites like Ebay made it so people know the value of their old stuff, which makes it difficult to find a decent deal now.
I love it, still do it, do it out of necessity not because I'm rich!
Thrifting is still awesome. Most of my clothes, toys for my kids, and original art are thrifted. I went thrift shopping just this morning! <3 I've been doing it so long that new clothes in regular stores freak me out.
I think this must be a regional thing because over here it is still very much a money saving option which is used by those who need items cheaply.
I regularly buy amazingly cheap stuff in the thrift/charity shop, usually they just need a little maintenance and they're on perfect working order. Not clothes though.
Child and adolescent therapist and member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, Kemi Omijeh, explained to me during an earlier interview that many psychologists believe that our childhoods are the foundation to who we are as adults.
“It explains why we frequently revisit our childhood as it influences our present," she told Bored Panda.
Therapist Kemi revealed that we’re nostalgic about our childhood if our experiences have been full of being loved and nurtured. On the flip side, it’s hard to feel nostalgic for a time in your life where you felt anxious, unloved, uncared for.

Entering the workforce and saving up. Never was great in my lifetime, but I've heard stories of people buying their first house after like 2 years of saving. That's just a fantasy these days.
First timers are practically unable to buy their first home, so they are forced to rent, which developers have Jumped on and are building hi-rise cubbyholes (250sf) for rent or tiny little houses (500sf) with zero lot line which they’re only able to afford with two or three roommates

If you have a steady job, are aware what your expenses are, and what your intake is, you can save and buy a house, car, etc.

Think about this. Property, or real estate if you're from the US, can only appreciate in value (usually - there are exceptions). But, who actually buys the house? It's not the buyer, it's the bank. The banks have some how created a product that ALWAYS* appreciates in value. I guarantee that if *anyone* could buy property, EASILY, then the property market would NOT be such a guaranteed way to make money.

Politics - it was never great, but there’s no room for two people with different views to actually talk. It’s not a sports team, why is everybody so entrenched and angry.
Because Americans have been taught it’s a taboo subject. Getting out of the habit of talking about it weaponized it so when it finally became all some people want to talk about their was too much pent up emotion. It should have stayed as part of mainstream conversation (as it is in most of Europe) so that healthy disagreements could be aired without rancor.

All issues become a personal attack on you and your family. I mean seriously, how the hell did we find a way to savagely hate each other over issues like masks and vaccines? Why is it that someone getting married means the end of your own marriage?
Yes, framing, identity labeling and a general lack of both critical thinking skills and a commonly shared reality.

Now it's so hateful and divisive with no room for any sort of reasoned discussion, I find it easier just to avoid the subject completely. A real shame, as open debate and discussion is how new ideas are formed and information is gained. I feel we are slipping down a very dangerous slope...
Whatever happened to the politicians? Watching their debate is like watching 3-year olds arguing. Professionalism does not exist anymore. Insulting each other, sometimes even name calling and ensuring that there's a division between two parties (that, of course, affects the people) seems to be the norm. ay-yai-yai.
Because politicians and mass media have succeeded in dividing our country (the US).
They may have started that process, but we're doing a damn fine job perpetuating it all on our own. Accountability needs to be taken all around.

It took massive strikes by unionized laborers just to be guaranteed fair wage for work. When people kneel for the National Anthem to protest racial inequality, nobody wants to hear it. When that inequity leads t riots in the streets, suddenly everyone wonders why peaceful protests aren't happening.
It has all gone rotten. It has all gone Black and White. Not racial but you have to be one party or the other. So bad, so bad.

Amazon. It’s slowly turning into Wish.
I use Amazon more as a search engine. Find what I want, then go to the company website and buy it from the company rather than off of Amazon. It is way easier to notice when something is a straight up scam. Never buy clothing from Amazon, it is all now just rip off Chinese manufactured crap. I use Amazon less and less all the time. They don't vet their sellers and I am just done with getting ripped off and returns now being a pain in the ass.
Same! If you find a product on Amazon and can not find the business that claims to be the seller online. That is a big clue. I mainly focus on the negative reviews too, since the positive ones are so easily manufactured

Some Amazon Sellers are actually decent, but you need to look at their ratings, and where they ship from - those dispatched from Amazon are generally better - but not everything is available this way. I prefer to buy things sold directly by Amazon when I can, as I know it is likely to arrive when it says it will, and be as described.

That's just one story. Every thing that has been sent through Hermes has arrived very late and damaged
Never used Amazon because of the owner. Made some good deals on AliExpress, but my country has changed the rules regarding stuff coming from outside the EU and now it isn't profitable anymore to buy from China.

The air. Literally breathing in pollutants.
Depends on where you live, and at what point in time you start counting. In the US, for example, the amount on dangerous pollutants in the air is down by 75% from the 1990s.
I think, and I could be wrong, you're not old enough. Even with the wildfires on the west coast (America), the air is cleaner more days of the year then when I was a child - so in 45 years we went from constant haze to now there have been about 7 days of haze this summer instead of daily. I can see the mountains my mother saw when she was a child - it took 70 years but we're getting there. AND people don't flipping smoke inside anymore, it was horrible in the '70s and '80s, and now we can breath again.
I'm not disagreeing with your personal experience, but mine (as a Californian) is that I've had perpetual allergies and breathing problems this year. I've had little hayfever moments here and there for years, but for the past three months I've been awakened at least once a night by my nose getting so congested that I can't breathe.

I'd say this is dependent on where you live. Be sure to write your mayor a note letting them know why you left - leaving without saying anything doesn't communicate much - they NEED feedback to understand how to make changes and course correct. It is North American, which some people seem to be rejecting these days.
Modern rust proofing has come a long way that's for sure. Still have to be careful if you buy a second-hand car from an area where they use salt on the roads during snow days. Always check the undercarriage from cars in these areas.

Disney I always loved dark gothic disney cartoons Now its just rubbery overproduced cheesy stuffs only.
I like when they take a classic story and do a complete twist to it like Cruella.

That photo is from a Pixar movie, not a Disney one. Yes, I know Disney owns Pixar now. However, they've kept up the high quality of their work.
The Emperor's New Groove. Funniest movie Disney ever made. And quotes funny to those who've seen it. "It's not the first time, and it won't be the last." "Why do we even have that lever?"
Not nearly as dark. Disney is mass producing Pablum and parents are lapping it up.
i shed a tear at all the rides i wanted to ride as a kid got taken down
I LOVE old disney live actions movies like The Cat From Outer Space, The love Bug, The North Avenue Irregulars, etc.
Action movies....too many CGI
It's because the stunts/wardrobe/makeup etc departments have unions, but CGI is run like a sweatshop so it's cheaper
If you're used to CGI action films, I highly recommend you reset your perspective by watching The General (1926, Buster Keaton). It doesn't even have sound, yet is still one of the greatest action movies of all time.
Load More Replies...Cgi is your concern?? That's not what's bad about it. It's the empty plots. The repetitive narratives/dynamics. The copy paste of older, better movies.
It genuinely upsets me that practical effects and make up are no longer really in use, in favour of CGI. The werewolf make up in An American Werewolf In London was so good, the academy in charge of the academy awards created the Best Make Up category, specifically so it could win it. It's really unlikely that the likes of insanely talented people like Stan Winston or Tom Savini, will be seen again due to how major feature films are being made/churned out by Hollywood nowadays.
I'm genuinely impressed with how AWIL managed to do a transformation sequence without any CGI, and it looked pretty damn good for the time period (hell, it still holds up today to the point in which that's one of the most-remembered parts of the movie!).
Load More Replies...I can handle well done CGI up to a point, because it can get excessive. But when it's coupled with really fast action scenes, fuhgettaboutit.
Marvel's still good, but I miss the days of Iron Man and Captain America. new multiverse is going in weird directions, nobody cares about Shang-Chi (i have seen exactly 2 comic panels with him in it. my dad has read a TON of comics and never even heard of the guy. also the ten rings are literal terrorists), and all the Disney+ premium stuff... oy. and non-marvel action movies are not known to be good.
I know A LOT of people who care about Shang-Chi.

Totally agree that the news media has died. It is ALL opinion, telling people what to think, sprinkled liberally with emotional blackmail. Now I have to read various sites and piece together common threads to find the truth

I liked Rogue One though. I thought that it did a good job of explaining how they got the plans for the Death Star.
Yeah, that's probably the best of the new SW.

Doc Martens. They sold the trademark to a Chinese company and changed the real product to Solevair.
I didn't know that. But then again, I haven't had Doc Martens boots for many years now.
My partner told me wonders about Doc Martens. The right shoe of my first pair broke apart within the first month. On the other hand, I've had Onitsuka Tigers for years.
I was wondering why a pair I recently tried on felt awful!!! Then again, I was also wondering why they were only $120...
Standup comedy. There used to be some great comedians out there that were actually funny. All the comedians now are either too afraid of triggering their audience or just hateful people bashing their political opposition.
But truth is that a lot of comedians don't have any jokes left if you strip away the sexist and racist jokes from their act.
Agree. Are they really great if the only jokes they have are the easiest targets of a corrupt society?

I get it! I strongly recommend Michael McIntyre, he will turn the most banal thing into comedy: your spice rack, buying a fridge, going to the dentist, his wife dressing up and snoring, the olympics. It's hilarious: no innuendo, no social angst, no bitterness. I enjoy also Trevor Noah (specially before he became big in America), the late Sean Lock, Lee Mack, James Acaster.... I do prefer Brit stand up to American, I used to bit addicted to "Live at the Apollo".
Try Hannah Gadsby, her two shows on Netflix, Nannette and Douglas, are very very good.
Another complaint based solely on nostalgia. There are many great comedians out there if you're willing to take the time to find them.
Well, I tried to watch one of Eddie Murphy's earlier shows... and I just couldn't: too loud, swearing every other word, homophobic to be honest, I just got tired of it, really quickly. So, I agree with you nostalgia is blurring the lines, because that kind of humour already existed back in the day.

Burger King was great in the 1980s. Now it’s the fast food equivalent of Gary, Indiana.
Hungry Jack's (Australia's Burger king) was so much better 10 years ago. They have changed their chips and onion rings which both suck.
That made me giggle snort. Sorry, Gary, but you've been Detroit longer than Detroit's been Detroit.
haven't been to BK in years. Always tasted like dead meat. I mean, I know that is technically what it is, but it just tasted so gross there.
In Canada, Tim Horton's used to offer store-baked goods (long time ago now) Starting in the 90's they became a glorified vending machine.
Seriously, this is true. Why does most of Burger King's food taste like chemicals and ashes now? It used to be sort of good
The Burger King in my town was so rubbish, they closed due to lack of custom.
AAA games
They used to be really good but now it's just big companies putting out unfinished games because they know it will sell
Plus they get "HD Remaster" and "Ultimate Edition" and other such gimmick re-releases every few years. And they can't even remake them right any more, either. Why is it like the 90s in the early 2000’s cartoons are just fantastic and now like the new stuff is kind of crap in some cases
I disagree with this one. The cartoons I watched in 80's and 90's were complete garbage compared with what they have, now. Some of the cartoons they make these days, I actually enjoy watching as an adult, which is not something my parents would have ever been able to do when I was a kid. Think of awesome shows like Gravity Falls, Hilda, and Centaurworld.
I love Hilda and Gravity Falls! Another good one is The Owl House. Hilda and TOH are two cartoons I would have loved as a kid. They both have incredible protags which are amazing ADHD/neurodivergent coded characters (especially Hilda) that remind me of myself as a kid. A lot of creators these days are really dedicated to their creation and want to create things they would have wanted as a kid.

Sometimes you can find them with a lot of searching the gps kinda helps you, but you can't log it on the site or view hints.
I never heard of that before, it sounds awesomely fun! Any suggestions on how to get started and enjoy in an inexpensive manner?
Just install Geocache to your phone, register and give permissions for your location, and it will tell you where the closest geocache is. You find it, open it, sign the little book, and you can even exchange a little prize in it. I take a small bag of stuff I buy every weekend just for this. Remember to take a pen with you. You can play without paying, but the 'Best Caches' need special features enabled, which they now charge for. Stick to the free stuff and have fun on a worldwide treasure hunt

It's near impossible to find an US news channel that doesn't spread biased misinformation. I haven't found one unbiased channel which only sticks to proven facts, instead of guessing, hinting and alleging the weirdest things. Although US politicians indeed seem more concerned for their own welfare than for the welfare of the people , one might think that at least one news channel is able to strip all the nonsense down to cold hard facts of what is happening in that crazy clownesk cabaret of US politics.
Yes, American news is ALL opinion, emotional blackmail/manipulation, told what to think, how to feel, with a good dash of social media idiocy taken as newsworthy. They no longer want to find the truth, spread the truth, but are all caught up on narratives. I read/watch various news stories and thread together from each the common threads to get some form of facts.

All propaganda machines; Americans should try International services such as BBC or Al-Jazeera. Yes they have their own biases, but relying on US news is just staying inside the bubble/echo chamber. The BBC (and in Canada the CBC) rely much less on advertisers and while subject to some political interference through federal budgets, are less beholden to one world view. Also try Vice for 'street level' investigation rather than regurgitating press releases.
Family Guy. It’s been steady downhill ever since Seth stopped writing.
After last season Im about to put Rick and Morty in the same category. Felt season 4 was a bit of a downturn but S5 just felt like the writers wanted to show us how clever they could be. Folks, half your audience or more is stoned when they watch this show keep that in mind moving forward.
The old animation was painful, and the old Stewie was just awful.

We can probably expand this into most shows that have run for longer than 3 seasons.
Except 90s Star Trek. Those shows all hit their peak well after their third season.

I met my best friends on there almost 8 years ago (holy shit) and we still talk all the time even though I’ve only met one of them in person, which was 5 years ago (holy shit). Then it killed itself with the adult content ban. Now it’s only blogs that glorify eating disorders, fanfiction that got left behind, and extreme SJWs that are scared of twitter because people might actually challenge their statements.
SJW = social justice warrior in case (like me) you didn't know. I've invented one of my own: POT. It means 'professional offence taker'. People who always seem ready to be offended on their own or someone else's behalf.
How dare you invent a better acronym! I take offense to that!
Load More Replies...SJW is a term that was created to make anyone who wanted basic things like equal rights seem like a fringe lunatic. Just because I think black people shouldn't have to fear police doesn't mean I'm a lunatic. Classic right-wing tactic to marginalize any opposition.
I thought social justice warrior was a compliment for quite a while.

That generally depends on who you follow there. You can follow/ban whole topics, tags etc. My side of Tumblr is my fandoms and aesthetic pictures. Actually most of the SJWs moved to Twitter. Adult content ban was a bummer but it is still a good site. I like it better there than it was in like 2014 when everyone was there.

Eh, I guess. But even the new ones have their moments. Homer has always been great and no Mr. Burns is the funniest character. I agree most new episodes only have 1 or 2 good bits per episode, but I will take it. Homer still makes me crack up after all these years!

Blizzard. Though I suppose you could argue that they've been bad for a while, and we just didn't know about it until the recent lawsuit.
My fat ass thought this was about Blizzards from DQ...I was gonna put up a fight lol
The recent lawsuit: For women at Activision Blizzard, one of the world’s most famous video game companies, showing up to work meant navigating near daily episodes of humiliation, sexual harassment, and even physical abuse, according to a bombshell lawsuit that has prompted a reckoning within the gaming industry. The claims paint a disturbing picture of life for female employees: rampant sexual harassment, gender discrimination, retaliation, and a “frat boy” workplace culture where men objectified women’s bodies and openly joked about rape.

Craftsman
I think this is referring to Craftsman tools. They used to be well made and guaranteed for life.
Just remember that Sears is the ones to destroy that brand. They wanted to make it cheaper, had it manufactured in China, skimped on quality control, now Sears is bankrupt and Craftsman is sold to another company who hopefully will adhere to better quality

Sorry folks who hate capitalism. Name one other economic structure that allows people to start their own business, anywhere, at any time, where you can decide how to run it. Where competition is designed to keep pricing low. What people hate when they say they hate capitalism, is how malignant it has gotten from those who refuse to practice its principles and instead are focused on getting every dollar they can no matter how sleazy they need to become.
Getting every dollar in a sleazy way is literally the basis of capitalism. See any Industrial Age industry for a litany of examples.

It's hilarious to me. It's not the system that is failing, it's the leaders you keep voting in!
In Civilized countries, the focus becomes the long-term health of the company, and honouring the obligations to shareholders to properly sustain their investment, as well as be a good corporate citizen.
