I think gender reveals are fine when intimate and personal. My brother sent me cookies in the mail to reveal they were having a daughter. I thought it was very cute (and delicious!) The huge reveals are the problem.

Cutting into a cake/cupcakes/sweets/ whatever and reveal the colour inside? Fine. If you wat to, go for it. Putting a dissolving tablet into a glass of champagne that'll colour the drink red or blue or something similar? Fine, go for it if you want to. Gifts with toys or clothes inside that reveal the gender when unwrapped? Well you need baby clothes anyway, don't you? Colour changing cups that reveal the gender when getting hot or cold? Fine, if you want to. Little satchels that burn in different colours if thrown in a fireplace? As long as it's non-toxic, have fun. Opening a celebratory capsule that reveals coloured streamers that are attached to the capsule? Well, if you have to, fine. But why creating trash? But you do you. Anything you leave for others to clean up or can't be cleaned up especially in nature? Please don't do it. It's horrible.

Ours was fun, intimate, and harmless. We handed a sealed envelope with the gender to a baker who made a blue/pink cake frosted in a way to not show what was inside. My wife and I didn’t know the gender yet, so when we cut the cake in front of family we all found out at the same time. Unfortunately, due to the need to share and one-up on social media people keep looking for the next bigger and better way of getting attention, and this is what gives these a bad name.

Living in a huge city I thought I knew the story behind every homeless person. Then I got a job at a social service agency working with the homeless. Come to find out I knew nothing. But I did hear some of the saddest most horrifying stories and met far too many women who fled their homes with absolutely nothing to escape a violent abusive partner. Some of them the police would just dump off at our door. I'll never forget one woman who was barefoot, no purse, had been beaten to a pulp by her husband and they had just moved to the city and had no family or friends there. Thankfully we were able to send her to family. The burnout rate at those jobs is high.

I've got psychosis too, and trust me it is no joke.

It's good to do with little children and pets however. It's actually proven that the slow speech, higher pitch and repetitions help babies learn language. And pets are just put at ease by it. There is a reason people do this instinctively with little kids and animals.

Sometimes when I see people communicate this sort of thing it's because they've had extensive social trauma and it has been only animals they've had anything close to consistent safety with. It's not that they suck, they're just hurt. :(

Because night people are expected to tone it down when morning people want to go to bed, but morning people don't extend the same courtesy. Morning people get all kinds of cranky if you make noise at night or bounce with energy.
