Some people never cease to amaze us with how entitled to discounted or even free services, products, bargains, and goods they feel. Called Choosing Beggars, they even have a whole Reddit community dedicated to their worst faux pas, and we previously wrote about it here, here and here.
It seems like no one is immune to a choosing beggar attack, it doesn’t matter what kind of job you do. This time, we’re taking a look at the tattoo artists who got their nerves challenged big time.
Think of customers who tried to find an easy and inexpensive way to getting themselves inked with, you guessed it!, little results.

Haggling With Tattoo Artists Is Never Advisable
If you ever wondered where the term "choosing beggars" is coming from, it comes from the old adage “Beggars can’t be choosers.” This effectively means that if you have to resort to the charity of others, you have to be willing to accept what they offer you or do without.
Meanwhile, a choosing beggar is a person who ignores this advice. If someone doesn’t owe them anything but offers them something out of generosity, a choosing beggar will put conditions on it or demand something different.

A choosing beggar is someone who has an enormous sense of entitlement. It comes from the belief that someone deserves special treatment or recognition for something they didn't earn. Arlin Cuncic, the author of "Therapy in Focus: What to Expect from CBT for Social Anxiety Disorder" and "7 Weeks to Reduce Anxiety," argues that people with this mindset believe that the world owes them without ever giving anything in return.
Cuncic explains that entitled people have a tendency to adopt goals based around their own self-image, often leading them into conflict with others. "While they may be able to put up an exterior of being nice and well-mannered on the outside, research shows that it's all just for show; deep down inside this is not how they truly feel about themselves or other individuals around them."

I Feel Really Bad For Tattoo Artists
Such a polite honest explanation. It's a crying shame that people can't grasp the concept that these people deserve to get paid for their work too 😔
Being Called Pathetic Only Because The Person Is Charging For A Tattoo Design
Moreover, Cuncic warns that when people think of themselves as superior, anything that challenges their worldview is met with defensiveness and anger. "This creates a vicious cycle: the more they are challenged by society's limitations, the angrier they become at these injustices," she claims.

Meanwhile, Jane Adams, Ph.D., a social psychologist, writer, and speaker argues that when people feel entitled, they want to be different from others. But just as frequently they come across as indifferent to others. "That’s why they often provoke such negative responses in those they encounter, especially those they don’t personally know," she explains for Psychology Today.
According to Adams, recognizing when our own sense of entitlement is driving us helps us understand our need to balk at social convention, and rebel against limitations on our autonomy or prohibitions on our preferred behavior. "Marching to our own drummer is one thing; knowing when that sound affects others like chalk on a blackboard is another," she argues.

One Just One Of Tons Beggars Exposed
I've got some tats that I thought up myself. When I went to get them done, I wasn't just paying for the application of ink. The artist spruced up my basic designs and made them look MUCH better. That's alot of what you want a good artist for and why you don't argue about paying them.
Client Got A Small Simple Tattoo On His Wrist And He Was Very Happy With It. Few Days Later He's Frantically Emailing And Calling The Shop When It's Shut, Requests A Touch-Up And Insists He Was Overcharged, And Wants To Speak To The Manager
This dude was a walk-in, and wanted a last-minute tattoo on his wrist. He seemed very friendly and grateful for being seen at such short notice. The first thing I noticed was that he was suuuuper nit-picky once the tattoo was done; going back and forth to touch up a millimetre at a time to his liking. I was fine with it, as it's what the client wants and he's looking at it constantly so it needs to be "perfect". Overall he was super happy with it and we thought that was the end. Days later (when the shop is closed), he sends like 5 emails and tries to ring up several times in the span of like 10 minutes. This pic is just the best part of the ordeal. My boss (who is the manager) talked him through it and diffused everything. Our shop minimum is $130, and we make that very clear at the start. The $100 tattoo he mentions was part of a fundraiser with set prices. Never thought I'd encounter a choosing beggar yet here we are

Cb Asks For Money For A Tattoo That Doesn’t Look Half Bad
Cb (Yellow) Asks For Discount From Artist (Green) Because He Has A Tattoo With The Same Design
looks like a lot of people don't understand how tattoo minimums work. in order to pay for sanitation & quality equipment for each individual client, tattoo shops have a minimum price that everyone has to pay whether they only get a single dot of ink or a full sleeve. it has nothing to do with the design itself, it has to do with how expensive it is to maintain a hygienic shop. the cost of the design is separate, but when factored together, a "simple" design can end up pricier than one would expect... which is why you RESEARCH before wasting a tattoo artist's time with a request you won't follow through with.
I think most people involved with something artistic get this kind of c**p. When I was in the music business some people would expect me to play for free. If being involved in the arts is how a person makes their living no one should expect a free ride.
ALWAYS TIP YOUR ARTIST! BEFORE AND AFTER! Doesn't have to be a ton but shows you appreciate their time and work. Also they do have a bit of control on how bad it can hurt. (Not an artist just a tattooed person)
Why would I tip an artist?? He price is supposed to be on the price. How is this is even reasonable? US tipping policy is getting completely out of hand

While I admire the artwork, and some is so amazing it is a masterpiece I could never bring myself to having one. However, for those of you that do have a tattoo or two. how do you or indeed do you, get people asking to have a close up look at it and do you mind?
Jeez some people are unbelievable. I have $500 for my next tattoo which I've been thinking on for about 2 years. My tattoo should only be half that but I'm researching artists and willing to pay that much to ensure quality. I'm willing to pay double for amazing work and people don't even want to pay reasonable rates that the artists deserve for their work.
Two issues to consider before you get a tattoo. Evaluate your skin type to determine how your skin will react to being tattooed. For example, if you scar easily. Second, tattoo ink is not regulated. Manufacturers do not have to report what is used in the ink. Research what brand of ink is going to be used as much as possible. Obviously, cancer causing chemicals are to be taken seriously.
Also shellfish is used in some inks, which is both an allergy and religious issue for folks.
