Most of the tattoo designs you see today are one of a kind, but these unique tattoo ideas take the cake. Not only are they beautifully executed, but the placing makes them even more special. Yes, we're talking about spine tattoos.
Although pain threshold varies from person to person, the spine, housing our nervous system and being covered only by a thin layer of skin, deems to be one of the most painful places to get a tattoo done. On the other hand - spine is literally our backbone, and by adorning it, you might feel empowered to stand tall through life's hardships. The spinal tattoos that we've rounded up in a list below definitely were worth enduring the pain.
From subtle floral details to abstract strokes, these tattoo ideas might make you want to get inked even though you weren't planning to or were afraid of the possible pain. Now, there are mostly women's spine tattoos in this list, but there is also a fair share of back tattoos for guys, too.

Delicate Inked Bloom
very delicate and very pretty those pinks might blend in over time though...
Nature in a Single Line
It’s really pretty and all, but why the heck would you want a spine tattoo? You are putting your life in some random tattoo artist’s hands. One slip of the wrist, and they could kill you! I’m not really one to take risks like that.
Do you seriously think a tattoo needle would go in deep enough to cause an injury? Even if they screwed up, it's near impossible.
Load More Replies...Congrats to the artist who painted this scene on her back, because that's what it looks like, a canvas!!
This has got to be the best spine tattoo, I have ever seen! I love it!! I want it!!
Celestial Ink Journey
this is great....until they decide to take away another planet R.I.P Pluto
Atomic Artistry Unleashed
I just want to point out that currently, Kolvanov has -666 points.
Load More Replies...Yes because that what the feminine does, buzz around to distract the masculine, we are soooo needy and desperate...and the masculine are sooooo worth it....said nobody ever.

I like the fact that bored panda credited my client than me hahah~ but thanks for sharing
Ink Meets Watercolor
Would have loved this without the black paint brush streak on the neck.
Looks more like a Beta to me, do you see what I mean?
Load More Replies...Red is the worst color to put in a tattoo because it fades really fast
The red in my neck tattoo is 100% gone. It’s about 13 years old yet the red faded within the first 5 years.
Load More Replies...I love this one. The colors are so bold and I have a soft spot for tattoos where you can't see the lines.
I was wondering that as well. When she wears a regular blouse, the black part will be all that shows on her neck.

Ink Meets Watercolor
A beautiful tattoo, but for me, a back with freckles like that needs no further embellishment.
Very original. It was a true and passionate artist at work able to create a masterpiece of harmony between the skin and his art. Impressive.
Chasing Childhood Dreams
i *used* to like peter pan. then i stage managed a production of it with a bunch of hooligan children...
I think the reason I don’t like it anymore is because this dude keeps stealing the children...
Load More Replies...They forgot to put Tinkerbell! She's the one with the Magic, that made the kids fly!!!
Behind the Quiet Watcher
How in the name of F have I gotten so many upvotes for a comment this pointless and insipid?
Load More Replies...When I said 'drop me a line', I believe you took it too literally.
Dangling With Style
hmm looks like a Black Widow... what does that tell you about her? Sounds like a keep away warning to me.
I would be charged with assault because I would almost immediately try to slap that spider.
How many times will well-intentioned people swat that spider?
Delicate Lines, Bold Statement
Curves Worth the Stare
Thinking he lets his boyfriend use him as a free canvas to show off his work.
Load More Replies...love the 3d effect. And that it gives an excuse to look at his "butt cleavage" ;)
Ink Meets Anatomy
I think there are orperation scars where the tattoed spine has missing parts. That is pretty clever and touching.
Something very very powerfull is happening here ... and touching. This picture goes deep under the skin. Also the way she stands, just wondering about the store. Beautiful in a very specific way. Unique.
Love this. Obvious spine damage, laminectomy at several levels. I want to have one with the skin opened to show all the metal parts holding my spine together. But this is a cool idea.
I've been trying to figure out what type of Tattoo I'd have put on my Spine, because I've already had a lower back surgery, and facing Another, and tomorrow morning, I'm having the upper part of my Spine done. That's called a Cervical Spine, plus I've also had the middle of my Spine done, which was a Surgery Gone Wrong!! So Seeing this Awesome Tattoo makes Me think that I've found what I'll have done. We have an Awesome Tattoo Guy here where I Live, I'm Sure that He can do this for me.

Lines in the Silence
I thought it was smoke for a second then I say the bottom face then I saw the top one beautiful
okay kolvanov I donnt know what your problem is, or if your having a bad day but iI have seen your rude and ugly comments and nobody appriciates them. I have also seen other people say something to you. I then went to your acount and you have something around -722 points. Thats say something by itself. Bored Panda is meant for entertainment and im sure that other people including myself like to go through the pictures and stories without having to see somebodies rude or ugly comment. I understand that everybody has an opinion but if its not appropriate dont say it. Common sense! "A vine that is rotting, somehow making a facial profile. What are the odds of that happening." Your words. It was her choice in life and your just close minded. You should really think about this espicially coming from a 12 year old who is in 7th grade.
Not sure how this will be in a few years when the definition has faded 😕
The faces are beautiful!! I love how they morph, from one into the other!!
Wand Waves Only
That hand has seen some s**t.. i get the wand thing, but no magic can save this hand...

I love it, not sure how I feel about the lines, but it woks. Beautiful!
I love the butterfly one particularly. I'm designing a memorial tattoo for my daughter with ladybugs, but I want to incorporate beetles and tree frogs for my two boys, and that gave me some new ideas. Well done!
Less than Spine Surgery and the recovery for some of us hurt! I can see some of these and understand wanting something to cover the scars and give hope.
Load More Replies...It seems that flower, moon cycles and botched solar systems on the spine have become a cliché, just like tribal motives in the 90's. Avoid them at all cost.
Why is it a cliche to like what others like, too?
Load More Replies...the spine is absolutely the best place for a tattoo - so you can avoid looking at in years to come when you go "what was I thinking"?
nah, unless you're in the habit of making bad decisions, tattoos are wonderful beautiful things that help define you, help you tell your story and help you express yourself.
