I think, in every country, taking care of war veterans and their families when they need help should be considered a given. If we’re sending people to the hell that is war, it’s our damn responsibility to take care of the human consequences of that war. I think helping vets should be considered a part of the cost waging war. Shame on politicians -in any country- who use the soldiers when it suits them, and then kick vets to the curb when they’re not ‘useful’ anymore.

This is how the modern Republican party works. If they were to campaign honestly based solely on their true policies and agenda, they'd almost never get votes, because their policies are hugely unpopular. I think the police should run towards the trouble, not away and not hide

I don't know what kind of training regular police in the US get, but if that's considered a job for SWAT and regular police don't actually get training for such situations, then you can't really blame the guy. To get into certain situations untrained, is sometimes pretty much a suicide mission. Sure, some police men are willing to die to save kids, but you can't expect everyone to be willing to give up their life. Yes, as a police man you always are at a risk, but if you know for instance that there's a 90% chance of dying if you go in untrained, then I completely understand a regular police man to not wanna do that.
