Not really valid. Book Clubs tend to allow people to expand their worldviews and educate themselves. Versus Fantasy Jesus Camp that allows you to self-indoctrinate and codify various forms of discrimination and hatred. But hey, you know what they say: Religion, bringing you comfort in a world torn apart by religion.

A book club where people all over the world are reading different versions and editions of the same book and arguing that their's is the one TRUE version.

You are right, they should be cared for. But first, I don’t think anyone should be sent to war. I took Kurt Vonnegut’s words to heart: “I have told my sons that they are not under any circumstances to take part in massacres, and that the news of massacres of enemies is not to fill them with satisfaction or glee. I have also told them not to work for companies which make massacre machinery, and to express contempt for people who think we need machinery like that.“

I think that no politician should be allowed to declare war or send personel into a new, dangerous situation unless they are in the front lines themselves for at least the first full week. If we did that, we would only be involved in wars that the people who started it TRULY believed in.

That kind of is the pact we made with then for putting their life on the line for the entire country

In places where conscription is real, yes. Otherwise, people make the choice to contribute to their country's perpetual wars, in the case of the USA. I mean I guess it's the cost of waging war but look you even said it, waging war. I don't have much sympathy for people who choose to wage war.

They're all for life until it's born and then they see no problem throwing it in an underfunded, abusive foster care system.
