To get a better understanding of these actions and the feelings that caused them, we contacted psychotherapist, writer, and consultant, Kaytee Gillis.
"Stories of people getting revenge for feeling betrayed or wronged in relationships fill movie scripts, and the behaviors are even encouraged and laughed at in many social groups," Gillis, who has a deep passion for helping survivors of traumatic relationships — whether familial or romantic — told Bored Panda.
"One famous song even boasts lyrics about smashing headlights and slicing someone's tires for cheating. Although music is an expressive art form [and it is] most likely not a true story, it shines a light on behaviors that many excuse. And while it might be normal to want to get revenge over being wronged, actually taking action to do that can quickly turn into unhealthy behaviors, or even abuse."

I think I'll just comment on one post because a lot of them are gonna be "i got rid of your stuff posts". While cheating is despicable it's not criminal. Trashing/selling/dumping your partners stuff is probably illegal. And there's a damned good chance it'll get you into a heap of trouble. And even if it doesn't we know that there is a huge problem with domestic violence and even spousal murders. Do you really want to do something drastic that might trigger violence and get yourself hurt or killed? Far better to at least try to be adult about it and just walk out.

Though most teens think the best way to break up is in person, 37 percent of them consider a text breakup at least moderately acceptable and 1 in 4 thinks it's okay to do the job by simply changing your social media status to "single."

I know this is just funny, but I fix fridges and freezers right now, and some of the ones made to be more or less disposable are way lighter than you'd figure. Not so sure it's fiction. When I was working at a law school, I started dating a guy who lived in another city, but was always in mine on business. I was young and naive so I didn't see the red flags. There was a woman around my age who worked at the law school and was always going on about how awesome her husband was. Chris and Jacob's mother got together and married. So Chris became Jacob's stepdad. Charlie's ex was already Chris's step-mother. Jacob's mother became Charlie's daughter-in-law. When my sister found out a landlord had been taking the rent and not paying the mortgage (she found out when the bank foreclosed and the eviction notice arrived), she took the handles, the light fixtures, the toilet seats, even the cheap plastic light switch covers. She said she'd have taken the drawers and the cabinet doors, but she was tired of removing screws by that time and just wanted to leave. Petty, but if the price at auction is less than the debt, the landlord has to come up with the difference.

It’s funny how people in emotionally unstable fits of rage don’t consider how this could be a diabolical win for the ex. I’d file a handful of civil torts against her and a claim against what I’m assuming is her renters (not homeowners) insurance. Ideally, her lack of rational planning would mean failure to respond/appear, so assuming a default judgement in my favor, file to garnish. Eventually a judge will hold her for failure to appear, which is how you swing it from your civil claim to one of her having criminal liability with the courts. I’ll get my monies in the civil suits, she can deal with the judge for disrespecting his/her court. Just a horrible waste of time.

You’d still need to sign the marriage license and turn it into the county clerk or appropriate agency within 30 days of issuance for the marriage to be valid. If ya don’t sign (vows or otherwise) and ya don’t submit the license, you’re not married. I’m a universal life minister solely to marry my queer friends & tribe. Ceremonies are irrelevant. Vows are irrelevant if we all don’t sign the license.

I've heard similar, but the guy didn't let on he knew about the cheating right away. He.asked the parents for their blessing to propose, told them he would be proposing on her birthday in a couple of weeks, sent mum a photo of the ring he'd picked out, etc. Then two weeks later, a week before he was due to "propose" he did the boxes of belongings, "thank you for everything, I'm so sorry we won't be inlaws" tears, "It just didn't work out." He made sure they were invested in his relationship with their daughter.

I could never get past being cheated on. I know some people can and they go on to have successful and wonderful relationships and I am happy for them, but I could never let it go and move on. Cheating is one of the most psychologically, emotionally, financially destructive, hateful acts a partner can do -- and it is also poses danger to the cheated on partner, even physical. So while I don't advocate anything that puts the cheated on partner in any legal danger; I say do what you need to to A. Teach the cheater a lesson and B. Enable you to feel some sort of release -- and obtain closure. In conclusion, I disagree with all the self-righteous moralizing demonizing "petty revenge" here. DO WHAT YOU NEED TO. If you're okay with walking away without taking any action; that's on you. It's not for you to judge anyone else. I've never cheated.

My ex husband stayed out all night snorting coke twice while I sat at home all night with our kid terrified something horrible had happened to him. Then when I confronted him about it and he admitted to using cocaine both times he blamed ME because he said he was so depressed about the fact we didnt have enough sex. So you know what I did? I moved out, sent him money for half the bills of the last month I lived there and told him that when he gets his act together and gets in a good place mentally that I'll make sure he can see his son as much as he wants and that Im rooting for him to find peace. A friend of mine’s husband cheated on her. She found out when she was being interviewed by the local paper at work and the photographer, an attractive young woman, was gushing over her boyfriend and showed my friend a picture of her husband. My friend kind of lost her mind, threw him out and set fire to his stuff. Her husband moved back in with his mother. But her real revenge was when she called his mother and ratted him out. His mother threw him out too and brought over some of his stuff for another bonfire.
