I’m Honestly Fed Up With All The Bad News, So I Illustrated 50 Of The Best Ones From 2019
We are often bombarded with fear-mongering and shocking headlines that make us feel that the world is falling apart.
However, while it’s important to report on problems and issues, I believe there is so much good in this world that it needs to be found and promoted just as widely.
Because of that, I started The Happy Broadcast. It's an anti-venom to the vitriolic rhetoric that pervades our media. Also, this year, I’ve illustrated even more happy news than in 2018.
We need more positive news to acknowledge that the world is actually getting better little by little.

When I'm working on The Happy Broadcast, I try to pick news that has an international appeal and touches themes like animal rights, climate change and science. News that shows how much we’re progressing on many fronts despite being often bombarded with few-mongering headlines.
I am so happy for their victory, but just find it bonkers that an indigenous tribe had to fight a legal battle to protect their land in the first place.
I think there are many reasons why negative news is dominating the media. It's like a sudden disaster a, it's more compelling than, for example, little improvements. Bad things can happen quickly, but good things aren’t built in a day, and as they unfold, they're out of sync with the news cycle.
As humans, we have this thing called “negative bias” that make us respond quicker to bad or dangerous situations. Nowadays, this bias is getting in the way of our happiness and well-being, and even our productivity because most of the narrative surrounding us (print, online or mobile) is that the “world is ending".
I think we should find a balance between negative and positive news. From politics to climate change and economy, negative and bad news surrounds us everywhere we go. A potential solution could be to limit the amount of bad news, basically slow down our personal news cycle, adding some positive news to our “news diet” to make sure that our outlook on the world is more optimistic. Also, it's very important to invest time to deal with misinformation and the reliability of news sources.
Hm, I think Sweden must have forgot to apply then. We dont have stray dogs, at least for decades. Any lost dog gets collected, if no owner is found it gets adopted via Animal Protection. I have seen one or two lost dogs, where we found the owner, but never a genuine stray.
Denmark neither. I'm pretty sure none of the Scandinavian countries has had any stray dogs for decades
Load More Replies...I'm Dutch and I didn't even know this happened last year! I mean, it's true you never see a stray dog anywhere (and not many stray cats either, though usually you can't really tell if a cat is a stray or not), but that's great. :-) I hope more countries will follow soon!
Hahahaha! If only! Maybe in the small European countries. But Africa? Not a freaking chance. Unfortunately. At least we have lots of organisations and individuals taking care of homeless animals. Even if it is just feeding and spaying, but our rural communities are so vast and widespread that it would be impossible to do it here.
Load More Replies...Well, not the first country without them. Iceland has never had stray dogs and as far as I know, Farao Islands, don't either. But on the other hand, good job Netherlands!
Neither does the Netherlands. But thanks for the compliment!
Load More Replies...Thats good news! It might also help that dogs and cats arent for sale in pet stores here. Less chance of buying a cute puppy on impulse.
Yeah, I'm from Denmark and we've never really had stray dogs. We have tons of stray cats, but by law all dogs have to be registrered when born. I have never seen a stray dog here.
Load More Replies...Yeah, i think that in Finland does not had a stray dogs at all.
Load More Replies...An extensive sterilisation program. They encouraged owners to bring their dogs for free sterilisation alongside free vaccinations and health checks.
Load More Replies...Great achievement but they are not the first. There hasn't been a stray dogs in Iceland for many decades. We have similar systems as Panda Kicki said is used in Sveden.
Antarctica doesn’t have any stray anything; dogs, cats, pigs, water buffalo, pigeons, sparrows or people!
Load More Replies...As somebody said: cats are another matter entirely. They are natural nocturnal wandering predators. A two part BBC Horizon study showed that they have huge overnight prowls on which they avoid each others routes and if they feel unwanted will simply adopt another owner. They even visit other houses and eat that cat's foods while the cat away.
Load More Replies...Ok now India and Phullipines need to get on that. They have so many dog and human cases of rabies.
So all of you commenters are praising them for killing all the stray dogs? Romania did the same thing. They had police & such walk around & shot, stomp, beat to death any stray dog they saw. Plus they did it right in front of kids & other folks. HUMANS ARE THE REAL REASON WE HAVE STRAY DOGS & CATS!!!!!!
Pamela, read the posts, they have no-kill shelters, it's different than the evil Romania.
Load More Replies...Bless them a thousand times over. I saw an article on the paper a few weeks ago that said a shelter (I can't recall where it was in the USA), had adopted out 100% of their dogs and cats! this is wonderful!
'Officially' the first country...after all of Scandinavia. Antarctica is the first continent to have no stray dogs. Australia has compulsory microchips, sterilisation and a euthanasia program...if only it was for people who mistreat animals!
Are you kidding? Implanted microchips are what the Bible calls the mark of the beast! I will never accept one of those chips. If they do it in animals, they will soon try to force it on humans. I'm not losing my soul!
Load More Replies...I hope the reason is because humans are becoming more compassionate and NOT because they capture and euthanize all strays. This will be investigated further by me!
Does this not mean they collected all the stray dogs up and killed them? 🙄
The Netherlands has had no strays for decades so it's not like they suddenly took a lot of dogs from the streets. But the Dutch shelters all have a strict no kill policy.
Load More Replies...How is this a good thing? You steal dogs' freedom. You make their genitals useless, you lock them in a shelter or force them to only live with humans as sick amusement toys. These are living beings.
Cengiz, all that is better life than miserable existence outdoors; their life span is 2 - 3 years. Get real.
Load More Replies...I have never ever EVER seen a stray dog in Sweden! Maybe we didn't apply for the certificate?
We don't have stray dogs in germany as well.. I think we almost never had? At least for the last 30 years.
A goal that I only hope and pray will be reached by every country in the world. Thank you Netherlands, being a huge animal lover, this news puts a smile on my face and a song in my heart!
Well done to the citizens of the Netherlands, let's all hope for others to follow a wonderful example.
This deserves WAY more up votes. ADOPT don't shop! Also, creating smart and viable programs that address actual issues with actual work, work! :)
That makes no sense, it`s good for them no doubt, but i really don`t think this was a thing in the Netherlands or any of the country around here, we do not have wild dogs in Denmark and i highly doubt Norway or Sweden has either, we do still have feral cats unfortunately :-(
How was that achieved, by adoption or euthanasia. Many countries are getting rid of strays by poisoning.
How is this so, do strays just magically disappear? Are they all adopted or are most just put down? This is also true in many parts of Southeast Asia, of course they just eat them over there. This practice of claiming that they have eliminated a social evil is often touted in Europe so that the numbers drop but nobody asks how the problem was solved. Europe also had a lower number of babies who suffer from Down's Syndrome. Why? Most fetuses with Downs are aborted.
The Netherlands are so advanced in myriad ways. Man, I’d marry my way into citizenship! I hope they can tackle the stray kitties issues as well. purrrrr...
It’s also a very small country. Good for them. I hope it was done humanly.
' that comes with the law changes that force people to do the right thing. Have their dogs spayed or neutered and no letting them out onto the streets without a leash
We should talk to them about dikes and pumps/windmills as well. There's a reason they are the nether lands
We need to learn from Netherlands to tackle the severe problem of stray dogs in Delhi and other cities of India
India needs to learn from the Netherlands as strayv dogs are a major nuisance in Delhi and most cities of India
Fantastic❣️ Let’s find out how they did it and maybe we can do the same here. Rescue has been such a large part of my life.... This makes me soook Happy😘👏🏼
Wonderful Netherlands!!! This is how I wish the whole world could be!
That might mean something else - they are micro managing affairs there.
I initially thought the dogs had been euthanized, but I did not make that assertion. I chose to verify the how the Netherlands met with success. Here is the reference URL: https://amsterdamhangout.com/why-are-there-no-stray-dogs-in-the-netherlands/. The stray dogs were not euthanized.
I try to live by William Wallace's words - Every man dies, but not every man really lives (assuming he actually said that), so I'm not exactly jumping up and down for this one. I have two fur babies myself, but sometimes I wonder.... I'm also not convinced the motivation was for the care of animals. More so the cleanup of the city so tourists can spend more money. My brother-in-law "saved" a dog while travelling in Greece. She's definitely fed well and loved now! But I wonder how happy she really is.
The motivation is the cleanup the cities, it can be done humanely, not like in Romania, Greece, Asia, Middle East.......
Load More Replies...No, not correct, there have never been any stray dogs in Iceland
By allocating funds for the spay-and-neuter program, with dose of kindness and compassion.
Load More Replies...False. There have been no stray dogs in Iceland for decades
Although I support this initiative, the news is simply not correct. We do still have occasional stray dogs. The claim we're the first country without is a rather bold one that's hard to verify. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but in this dayband age facts REALLY matter.
Many of these "good" news stories BP is featuring here, are not that good after all.
Load More Replies...George, are you aware how China, Korea, Vietnam (all Oriental countries) "solved this"? It is OK with you????
Load More Replies...So long as this is because people are looking after their animals . Not that they are being picked up and killed.
This statistic is hard to believe while knowing that countries with hunger issues will eat their dogs.
Cindy, many countries with hunger issues do not eat dogs; but in all Oriental countries they deliberately heinously torture dogs and cats, boil them ALIVE, burn them to death with a torch (no carbon monoxide to render them unconscious), cut their limbs off - ALIVE. Those evil, sub-human b*****l monsters are committing these atrocities because they believe that meat will taste better, and NO, they do NOT have hungry issues, it is delicacy to them.
Load More Replies...that's amazing. I live in Mexico and I think they shipped them all here....
Through capturing and euthanizing all stray dogs? A goal of eliminating all human suffering could be accomplished by eliminating humans. Iceland brags of nearly eradicating Down Syndrome by creating a system that favors aborting babies that are thought to have the genetic abnormality. If you don’t constrain the goal, horrific things can occur in the name of accomplishing what seems like a worthy goal.
wow thats a shock, I thought at least have the world had nostrays, that needs to be incease alot. poor animals.
I'm Dutch and I have never seen any stray dogs in our country ever and I'm 47 years old. And I'm pretty sure that a lot of countries around us (Belgium, Germany, Switserland, Scandinavia) don't have any strays either. So maybe we are the first who got an official status but it's not really news.
It can be done! Fiji may be a very long way behind, but it can be done!
How Nice, but we have never ever had stray dogs in Norway, and I dont think the other nordic countrys have them either! Cats unfortunately we do have!
There are still alot of genetic dogs with all kind of diseases in the Netherlands, people like to have these animals.
To whom who down voted this? What's wrong with you?
Load More Replies...What did they do with the strays ? Pakistan politicians suggested shipping their strays to China for the table
That's graag. Now act on the 40.000 homeless people. Yes. 40.000 in the Netherlands.
OH, I am thrilled beyond words, too many countries have a great many unwanted, cats and dogs !!!
This first moves my heart! I read and was impressed by Marc’s comment!
This is an amazing gesture of kindness on our earth. Thank you Netherlands!
Why was Lou Lou's comment down voted? Who is objecting to "kindness on our earth"????? Please let us know who are you.
Load More Replies...Again, some "kind" and "humane" person down voted positive comment. Why?
Load More Replies...Respect to Netherlands ! This is amazing ! News like these must be heavily promoted to be an example at least
We also have shelters for them and we invest in trying to give them homes instead of building contraptions and anti-homeless benches to prevent them to sit down.
Load More Replies...And again, some "good" person did not like Tara's comment. Why?
Load More Replies...Excellent news, and a good practical solution which many countries could follow if they chose.
Great! Such a pity that there are 39,000 homeless people in the Netherlands!
There are also millions of people desperatley looking for a house to finally start a family and have kids. Did you break down those 39000 homeless people into people that prefer to be homeless? People that got evicted because of anti-social behaviour? Students that aren't really homeless because they bunk with friends but don't have a place of their own? Homelessnes in the Netherlands means you don't have housing but it doesn't mean you have to sleep under a bridge. There are shelters to sleep in a warm and protected place.
Load More Replies...I agree wholeheartedly with Marc. The Netherlands are world leaders in so many ways.
The question arises as to how this was achieved. I am guessing, hoping, by sterilization, and not by euthanasia.
Somebody does not like Theresa's comment, but likes to kill stray animals.
Load More Replies...The same travesty of a human being down voted Ruth's comment.
Load More Replies...Yes, but how did they deal with them? Have they taken them all into rescue shelters? Or have they rounded up & euthanized them? Inquiring minds want to know!
They do not get killed. We don’t have death shelters, only rescue shelters. Whenever a Dog is found, animalcontrol takes them to a rescue shelter. There they can check For a chipcode in the neck and bring the Dog back to its owner. No chip? Then after two weeks, they become available For adoption. And that is without timelimit, they can stay as long as necesarry.
Load More Replies...i don't believe any country is able to know that there are no strays , i bet there's an error margin of a few hundred
No, there is a no-kill policy for all shelters in the Netherlands.
Load More Replies...Prostitution is legal in the Netherlands. Yes. Strangly enough we also have a very low rate in sex offences.
Load More Replies...They don't get killed, they are being collected and taken care of / up for adoption as in many mid-european countries like Switzerland and Germany. You can read about it in the upper comments.
Load More Replies...SOOOO not against this! But....shouldn't it be equal pay for equal skill? (meaning, no race, gender, age, or any discrimination at all!) If you have more skill in the task, you get paid more, if you have less you get paid less. Plain and simple (yet I know it is more difficult to prove wrong-doing that way too)
Nairobi has a baby elephant orphanage. So I guess not. Of course, if they are brought up in the orphanage, which is by Nairobi National Park, then they are not sold to a zoo or circus.
This is definitely a good thing, but be careful to remember that fortnite is known for an especially toxic crunch culture. Employees are expected to work insane hours with no pay. Planting forests is good, but he should also be held responsible for the unfair and harmful working conditions his company creates.
The rabid, right-wingers still spewing their nonsense that renewables will drive prices up so high no one will be able to have electricity will not be noticing this development. The belief disconfirmation paradigm is too powerful for some people to overcome.
Glad to see them come back. Sad that they died out there in the first place.
This is nice, but it would be better if children being educated wasn’t contingent on their parents paying any sort of fee.

Although the use of solar panels is green, many solar panel manufacturing processes are not. To create a solar panel, caustic materials will emit greenhouse gases. Plus less than 11% of each panel has salvageable metals so they're not very recyclable once they're usable life has expired. Most people aren't aware that the 'green' alternatives often aren't.
Never understood the appeal of fur anyways. Fake fur seems to have the same affect for me than real fur, so I don't really seem the point of killing animals for it.
By then all elephants will be dead, cause hey, they have to sell before it's banned.
These kids are the future of humanity. I hope they make it. I hope their future is not as bleak as it seems now.

Now? How come it's only now available for humans when it has been available for pet animals for years. (google bionic vet)
We'll still have to worry about those inconsiderate 101 year old chain smokers though.
Cool! Why don't we hear more about all of these positive things in our regular news sources?
People are asking why this matters, here's why: Women are still getting fewer opportunities to direct movies, and even if there would be women who could make amazing movies, they're sidelined by some of the male directors that are really mediocre and produce cheap cash grab movies.

My plans for tomorrow have been decided!! I will tell you how it went!
But is it used ? You don't hear about these so called environmental breakthroughs
It is necessary, because often private investors will support male entrepreneurs over female entrepreneurs. This happens mostly due to people in power currently being predominantly male and as many studies have proven, men are much less likely to believe that women are capable of success in a serious work environment. This can be ascribed to both deliberate and subconscious sexism. It's the same argument for why people of ethnicities other than caucasian should be given benefits that equalize the playing field. A group in power will not willingly give over their own power.
Would that mess with fishes' electric current sense? (Sounds crazy but look it up it's a real thing)

Unfortunately not suitable for everyone. Myself and my brother could not live off a plant based diet. I have reactions to a lot of fruit and veg, I get itchy tongue, gums, throat, roof of my mouth and lips. My brother has a salicylate intolerance and gets quite sick eating many fruits and veg.

And I'm glad that I read it yesterday when there were over 100 posts and not just the 50 that are left now...
Load More Replies...Posts like these give me faith in humanity. Don't get me wrong, it's important to be informed about world issues, but it's nice to escape that every once in a while and know how far we've come.
Life is calmer when people take care of their little spheres in the world and stop obsessing about the whole world. People who mire themselves in the world's problems start to see people as the enemy.
Load More Replies...WOW!!!! This may be the best boredpanda post EVER!!!! Boredpanda needs to post more like this.
Thank you. I really needed this. My faith in this world and humanity has been at an all time low lately. We all could do with more good news in the world.
quick share these for when they suddenly don't exist anymore

Load More Replies...This is a great post and many of these are amazing things, the problem is that the more we keep people alive and the longer they live the bigger the population gets which isn't sustainable. So it's a double edged sword. It's a catch-22.
Really fun, informative, and feel-good post. Needed this today.
Thank you, these are great. I would love to have each meme linked to a reliable source so I can happily spread them around with the source link! What you think??
Thank you very much to make me happy today! Btw, #39 and #46 are the same...
It's good to see someone wanting to spread good news! Sad that so many people had to add negative comments to many of them, kinda missed the point didn't they?
This is the most amazing post I read in the last few years!! Thank you for gathering such valuable content and making such beautiful, interesting illustrations!! Love the way each pic is designed. Please make it a video and I'm sure many will watch it.
What about stop complaining about bad news, and get to work to fix what's bad in the world; then, there would be only good news to report. Get involved.
Thanks Bored Panda, much good news, also, great information !!!

When I read these good news headlines, it helps me realize that we are making progress. Yes, there's a lot of bad news in the world, but good news is just as plentiful when we look for it. Good news is healing. I'm sharing this on all my social media pages!
Lifted me ... made me smile. Thank you for sharing such great news.
Best news I've read in a long time. Thank you this has given me hope for the future and made me happy.
Love the illustrations and news they represent. Would like to have a link to the original news story for reference plz
Thank you Mario. A good effort was put into this and it was very interesting. Just a pity our world is so distorted that these things happen once in a blue moon. We can have the world be mostly fantastic and turn things around. But we have to withdraw from bank issued money. This is imperative if we want peace in the world and in our lives because banksters will bleed you dry. Yes even you.
Awesome post -- I agree that there's WAY too much negative bias on the internet. One of my favorite pieces of "good news" from this year is that the European Investment Bank, the world's largest multilateral lender, recently announced that it will stop funding fossil fuel projects by 2021 and divert those funds to renewables instead. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-climate-europe-eib-idUSKBN1XO2OS
I love it, now this should inspire all countries to follow, not just one!
Thank you! If we keep this up maybe the future generations will actually have a planet
There's been a ton of great news lately though, communists got BTFO'd in a lot of western countries, the US economy is doing great, brexit is finally going to go through without impedance. Overall SJW's are losing and the people are regaining some of their power.
This made me feel good!! I do wish I hadn't read some of the comments though. Just be happy with the good stuff!!
That was a tonic. I am going to save it to look at when I get down about the state of the planet.
This should be printed and bound into a children’s book annually! I would totally buy it for my nieces and nephews
Reading this just made me feel sadder! How can homo sapiens have developed so much technology and yet remain so stupid! So sad...
Thank you sooooo much. I bet there are plenty more of these positive news. If we could concentrate on those instead of bad news, scandals, fake news and all the bs we are exposed to everyday, the world would be a better place. I applaud your dedication.
This was ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL. Thank you so much for taking the time to put together and share this positive news with the rest of us.

When you are bombarded with stories of decline, loss, and hopelessness it is easy to think "Why bother" - this is why we should bother! Perhaps the news channels should take a leaf out of Mauro Gatti's post and throw us a sucess story once and a while. Thank you
I've been reading a lot of pessimistic stuff lately, so this really helped me out. Thanks. :)

I am sad to see the us very low on the list of contributions. We as a people need to start to fight again for the rights of our children, grandchildren, etc. We expect them to respect us, when we do not have any respect ourselves. Let us make 2020 a year where there is more good news than bad.
