We All Know That Butter Rum Is The Best Flavor
Yup! My deluded sister only liked the cherry ones; they tasted like cough syrup to me.
Load More Replies...The Lifesavers book that came out around Christmas. Had several different flavors.
My brothers and I looked forward to those every year.
Load More Replies...No way. It was the wintergreen ones. PLUS they made green sparks when you chewed them in the dark!
Load More Replies...They're still around! $18 (US) on Amazon. LIFE SAVERS Butter Rum Hard Candy Bulk, 1.14 ounce (20 Single Packs) https://a.co/d/03XhcIW
Thanks! My first thought was are lifesavers gone??? Am I so old I didn't even notice?
Load More Replies...You can still find them in the U.S. They’re more popular around Christmas. Cracker Barrel offers them from time to time.
I Remember Thinking I Was Playing It Cool, With A Candy Cigarette Hanging From My Lips
I remember trying to get the chocolate out of the paper was a challenge. More than once I ended up chewing soggy bits of paper.
I don't remember chocolate ones. The ones I had were just sticks of pure sugar in the shape of a cigarette with the end colored red.
Load More Replies...Chocolate? That's amazing! Ours were white porous chalky sticks so you could "inhale" but were pretty brittle and tasteless.
Yeah, a bunch of people keep talking about the chocolate ones. Never even heard of those before. We too had the white, chalky, mint-esque sticks with a little dab of red dye at the end, OR bubblegum sticks wrapped in white paper that you could blow “smoke” (some white dust) out of.
Load More Replies...the bubble gum ciggies were the best, there was a layer of superfine sugar between the paper and the gum so you could blow and it looked like smoke. just like mom and dad
Oh! I got to try those. Uncle Stephen is da best :) such a role model. No he Don’t smoke, but he still is awesome
Load More Replies...They were called F**s (replace those asterisks with ag) here in Oz. Just wrong on so many levels. 😆
The mint ones were called that if I recall, they were white with a red tip and made of peppermint.
Load More Replies...Yes. There were different kinds. Some like peppermint candy sticks with red lighted tip dye. Then there was the rolled up cig shaped gum which allowed you to forward blow a good amount of "smoke" from them. Dang.
My dad smoked Pall Mall. I thought we were so cool on our walks together.
Dang. I always got COOL because my mom smoked KOOL. Daaaaaaaaaaang.
Load More Replies...there's a small store here that sells vintage candy. got to introduce Poprocks to my little cousins.they loved them. got Bottlecaps for myself
They really DID make us feel "grown up." Funny tho, I never did smoke for real. Never thought I'd look 'cool' enough as the women in the advertisements.
Everybody Seemed To Have This Bowl
We called them Monkeypod but I think the wood was usually simulated not the real thing. I can still hear the distinct clacking sound they made when you stacked them! 😅
*ahem* excuse you. I still have 5 of these bad boys and use them almost every day as prep bowls
Because you are the wrong side of 30 like the rest of us old folks
Load More Replies...I still have it, inherited it from my parents. Use it as fruit storage bowl on my kitchen counter. Used it for shelled mixed nuts as a kid. It had a nut cracking attachment.
Oldie terminology is nutcracker. lol Those bowls were used a lot for salads, nuts, trail mix or cookies.
Load More Replies...The feeling of “getting old” is a strange one. One day you feel like you’re in the prime of your life, invincible and immune to the aches and pains that your parents always complained about. Then suddenly, seemingly overnight, you realize that there are children decades younger than you who are famous from posting dance videos on TikTok, and you’re not even quite sure how that app works. But feeling like you’re aging doesn’t have to be a bad thing. In fact, we might as well embrace it! Pages like Do You Remember? allow a space for those of us who might be getting up there to bond with one another over those classic things younger generations just don’t understand.
If you’ve ever tried to explain your favorite childhood candy to your children or wondered why kids don’t play with Lincoln Logs nowadays, you’re in luck. We’ve got some photos for you that are sure to trigger some memories about “the good old days”. Simple pleasures from your youth like eating Hostess snack cakes or annoyances like trying to use pay phones in public to call your parents just aren’t the same today. So enjoy taking this time to reminisce and bask in the beauty that is nostalgia!
Who Remembers?
They still make these. My nephew got them for Xmas one year and they are exactly the same as when I was a kid. :)
I'm not gonna state my age, but I'm around a teenager and I used to play with these when I was around 3-7, am I old???
those arent only an old thing! im 13 and had those when i was a kid
Do You Remember This Experience In Shoe Stores?
And the salesman owned a Dodge and a house, had a ditsy wife, fun daughter and loser son? No, can't recall.
I worked in a department store women's shoes section when i was in university. We had a type of X-ray machine that showed the bones in the foot, when wearing a shoe (to check the fit). Knowing what we know now aboyt X-ray exposure.....Yikes!! When we had a sale, a huge container of shoes ( pairs fastened together with a primitive zip tie) was set out. We sales clerks watched , as women rummaged through the bin and sometimes elbowed each other for a chosen pair of shoes. We were always baffled at the end of the day, when one shoe of a pair was orphaned among the leftovers. Someone out there has three feet???
Maybe someone had two different sized feet and didn't want to buy two pairs but couldn't steal the whole box?
Load More Replies...and in certain tiny towns in very remote areas, they used counter checks. Which means there were checks on the counter you could use!!!! Unreal.
Load More Replies...We still have one. Montano's. Been there since 1906. Jimmy Fallon still stops in now and then.
yes. Because each moment is just a memory. (sorry I'm feeling depressed again today lmao)
Load More Replies...In a few places, yes. Most stores have gone to self service and rarely do they have a Brannock device (the actual name for the measuring device).
Load More Replies...Toilet Paper Roll Deserts
Are they even called push-pops anymore? I think they are called Push-ups..
Load More Replies...Push ups had orange sherbert in them! We had to eat pretty fast so they didn't melt out of the bottom and get our hands so sticky!!!
Do you all remember Pink Things? That was the name of the ice cream bar. My kids think I'm nuts!!
To learn more about how wonderful it can be to look back on our pasts, we reached out to nostalgia expert Dave Fife. Dave is the creator of Retro Injection, a blog that “digs deep into the pop culture goldmine of the ‘80s and ‘90s,” and lucky for us, he was kind enough to have a chat about what he misses and what makes him suddenly feel old. “I recently came across a photo of myself and my dad at Chuck E. Cheese in 1986,” he shared with Bored Panda, attaching the adorable photo of the two eating slices of pizza in an email. “I couldn't believe how young he was! When you're a kid, you think your parents are ancient.”
We also asked Dave about anything from the good old days that he wishes hadn’t become obsolete. “I wish video stores were still around,” he noted. “People often comment on my Blockbuster trucker hat and tell me how much they miss renting movies.” Dave also shared that "A Tribute to Defunct Video Stores," a love letter to long-gone local rental places, is one of Retro Injection's most popular entries.
Oldies And Goldie’s! Love Them ! I Have Those That Belonged To My Parents And Grandparents!
Ohh. This is the best. I love those. And in the original packaging. In those brittle cardboards. How lovely. I got some from my mother in law. She had frosted ones. Icicles and cones. Nobody else wanted them. I will bequeth them to my daughter who also loves oldfashioned baubles.
We still have a few of these hidden deep in the realm known as The Attic
I have some of these, too! They are sooo fragile!! It always amazes me they survive each year.. lol
My mother had some like this, but unfortunately because they're glass, they didn't last.
If You've Ever Concocted A Delicious Mixture In This Exact Blender
I finally bought a stick blender. Handy for smaller things and less cleanup.
Load More Replies...Exactly the one I have downstair....chop-gratte-grind....frappé and liquefy, this model really worked on your language skills, lol
Load More Replies...Imagine what it could do to clams. The Clam-R-Rizer ((((LoL))))
Load More Replies...We had this blender for years, like my mom had iy before she married my dad, and they've been married for almost 18 years, and it only died about a year and a half ago.
Still in mom's kitchen, thou it has had a fair ammount of repairs, and changed vases and blades
I had a really old one for a long while that had a base that was silver... sucker just didn't want to be replaced! Wish I had it now....
A chrome base as in Hamilton-Beach or Kitchenaid?
Load More Replies...A Book Full Of Life Savers
These and gift books from McDonald's were the ultimate status symbol Christmas gifts
Used to get one of these in my Christmas stocking every year. Continued it with my daughter when she was young.
“I sorely miss Kay-Bee Toys!” Dave added, sharing this link to another Retro Injection piece discussing the famous toys. We also wanted to know if the nostalgia expert wished anything from his childhood hadn’t changed. “I wish arcades hadn't become casinos for kids,” he shared. “I constructed my home arcade from scratch, as a tribute to the Time-Out in which I grew up: I matched the color scheme of the former game room, and sourced the same pattern of industrial carpet. One of the machines is from that exact Time-Out. There's nothing like the immersive experience of being in a legit arcade!”
Older Than Dirt. I Have 78’s
I still have a 78 rpm player and the records to play on it. Scratchy but historical.
Load More Replies...Mine had 33 and 45 and that plastic adapter then went in the middle of needed. Never seen a 16 though.
16 was not a commercial success. It was mostly intended for spoken-word content and extra-long-playing albums but the fidelity was pretty low.
Load More Replies...In Canada also. Vintage vinyl is a hot commodity!
Load More Replies...Scratches, pops, dust hiss and all. Yeah, super technology, that.
Load More Replies...i had a 33 45. first record i got was the soundtrack to Star Wars. played that thing constantly.
My first two (bought at same time) were Van Halen 5150 and Whitesnake 1987.
Load More Replies...School Glue
Oh, I'd forgotten about that stuff. Used to put it on thumb and forefinger and pinch and open putting a pencil back and forth, you got a weird silk like stringy mess.
It was sooo fun... remember squeezing the tip and accidentally blobbing out way too much glue... probably because I'd already widened the hole with a pencil.
Load More Replies...Rubber cement was the one that came in the tin cans with the screw lid and big brush attached! And then there was paste too. Ahhh the glues of childhood! 😂
Load More Replies...This is mucilage. Rubber cement is different.
Load More Replies...In the UK it was a white tub with a red brush and lid. We called it fish paste. I'm pretty sure it was literal fish paste glue.
Fun Dip
You can still buy these in the US, called Fun Dip. Usually around Valentine's day, because they have packs of 30 to give out as Valentines for students.
Load More Replies...These are still around in America. Not sure what they’re called now, but I’ve eaten those.
my mom wont let us eat the powder lol we still do ofc but she thinks theres too much sugar. even though the stick is pure sugar
Load More Replies...These are stil available, at least in Europe. My kids eat them regulary.
I had a friend in 7th grade who would sniff the powder and pretend to do drugs
And while technological advancements have benefited us in countless ways, we’ve lost certain experiences along the way too. “Today's instant-gratification culture has its advantages, but to some extent, the Internet has killed things being special,” Dave says. “Let's use the trusty video store as an example: At least for me, a good chunk of the fun in the renting process involved socializing during the round trips to get and return the movie!”
Hands-Down These Are My Favorite Batman & Robin
There is a long story arc of a comedian who was a stoner and ended up driving Adam West to the airport. A BMW cut him off and caused an accident; the BMW owner laughed and said who do you think the police will believe - a stoned-out hippy or me, a wealthy businessman. Adam stepped out of the car in full Batman and said "Citizen, they will believe me"
Sounds like B.S., but a good story, nonetheless.
Load More Replies...i didn't grow up in this era of television, but I have good memories of watching this with my grandma and grandpa at night.
My granddad had the movie on tape. I loved watching that movie as a kid!
Load More Replies...What's fun is watching the "climbing up side of building on a rope" scenes where they stopped to talk to people in open windows, realizing that they just shot it with the camera sideways, and thing wondering why you never noticed the stupid trick when you were kid!
Lol, the layers to the scheme by the villains was awesome. And that version of the Joker is still hands-down better than Jared Leto.....
Load More Replies...The Classical Dish Full Of Candy That Was Completely Stuck Together
Ah, yes, the infamous Christmas candy nobody ate. I seemed to always get the one with that nasty black currant jelly in the middle.
Yes, the worst candy available. Useful only as decoration.
Load More Replies...They tasted like gak, but Christmas wasn't Christmas without this stuff.
I Had To Explain What The Scar Was To My Tattoo Artist. It’s All Covered Up Now
You can tell the age of a woman if she has it on her leg. They gave it to girls on the leg (a place that wouldn't show). My sister has it on her leg, a few years later, mine is in the arm.
Load More Replies...The whole anti-vax thing was started by a doctor trying to sell his own version and the it became political. As soon as something becomes political people become idiots.
Load More Replies...Thank you! Needs upvotes! I was like, nope people, we had the scar AND the sugar cube! 😅
Load More Replies...Mine looks like a star; my older sister is STILL pissed off that hers doesn't look like a star.
Load More Replies...People outside the US still get vaccinated on their arms. Plenty of young people have such a mark
Yup, my sister and I (ages 21 and 24 respectively) have those. We're from Poland
Load More Replies...“The last couple of generations have largely missed out on the fun of watching movies or listening to albums on physical media,” Dave went on to share. “I'll never give up my physical media collection, because I don't want to lose access to my favorite music and films. I'm glad that vinyl records, cassettes, and VHS tapes are all making comebacks.”
They Definitely Don't Make Them Like They Used To. Look At This Gorgeous Piece. Did You Have One?
Ours had a color tv in it too. Our first color tv. 1967. I’m the youngest child, so of course I was the antenna and remote control.
My little sister and I watched Monty Python's Flying Circus on ours!
Load More Replies...I inherited an Ethan Allen version of this. It comes as three pieces, with a curio hutch atop a cabinet and a dry bar atop a cabinet. My grandfather wired the entire house (theirs; now mine) with recessed speakers in the ceilings and put in a toggle switch plate on the wall above the “Hi-Fi” cabinet to turn on/off each room. Every speaker still works & sounds better than my pricey home theatre. I did have to replace the turntable belts and, of course, the needle, but it plays perfectly, too.
I really wish I still had my parents cabinet record player. So cool!
My late aunt Chrissie had one of these we use to play Elvis Presley's records as well as Cliff Richards plus many more.
I Still Have My Two Large Flour & Sugar Containers
I mean, surely there is still a lot of Tupperware around? It’s practically indestructible. Personally am waiting to inherit granny’s pickling container from mum 😁
Vintage Tupperware was tough, I grant you. The stuff they make now is crap though.
Load More Replies...I heard that Tupperware is in danger of going bankrupt. I guess the pandemic hurt them with no home parties for a couple years.
I’m sure it has nothing to do with a basic juice pitcher being $50 CAD /s
Load More Replies...I have the middle one in harvest gold. Keeps my rice fresh. I heard they might go bankrupt. Sad.
I still have my bowl containers and cake saver and tea container!! Still use them.
How Did You Open This Container?
We also asked Dave why it’s important to look back on these fond memories of the past that we have. “There's a saying that, ‘nostalgia is the enemy of progress,’ but I believe everyone should cling to their happy memories,” he says. “Looking back reminds you of your journey. Also, the stuff that inspires you in your youth is often most reflective of who you are at your core. That's why I'm a Ghostbuster!” he noted, attaching an awesome photo of himself all decked out in his ghost-busting gear.
When You Could Make The Whole Diner Listen To Your Song
It's worse when it's not even music but some loud AF TikTok. Even worse, I was trying to enjoy a quiet beer after work and dude was watching a whole episode of Seinfeld.
Load More Replies..."What's new pussycat, Whoa,oh, whoa, oh, whoa, oh..." (John Mulaney)
Came to the comments to see if anyone would reference this!
Load More Replies...I miss the Pizza Hut RESTAURANT. There's still a sit down one near me, but never any cars except for the delivery driver or cook. They have THE WORST tiny parking lot, but back in the day, cars jockeyed for position to get in or out for hours, every night. There was an unspoken etiquette to it all. We always went after Colorguard shows and we were all wound up and celebrating -- but nobody minded and usually joined in! We'd load up the jukebox with quarters -- so many quarters. Our biggest songs were always Soft Cell's Tainted Love, Steve Miller's Abracadabra, and Tommy Tutone's Jenny/867-5309. Ah, memories...
Teens always had a hangout and we were welcomed there and that music played all the time
Popcorn Made Like This
That's the one. The cheap version of Jiffy Pop, lol. At least that's how I remember it, not sure which came first.
Load More Replies...Jiffy Pop Jiffy Pop the Magic Treat As much Fun to Make as it is to Eat! (TV jingle)
Reminds me of my sister and I's favorite scary movie as kids. "Scream" lol
I’m not sure these have ever been a thing in NZ. I’ve only ever seen them on TV/Movies. I have one of those hot n pop machines form the 90s. Still works like a dream.
Shake your arm out of it's socket to make this stuff then have to share it with the other 4 people who didn't spend time shaking it.
The Fruit Log
For real. It was a thing then, it's a thing now. Not a generational thing, just... a thing.
Load More Replies...This is how my grandma bought and made orange juice. She insisted it was both less expensive and more nutritious than juice from jugs.
Load More Replies...Here’s a small cooking tip with these: If you’re making a ham, take a can of orange juice concentrate and allow it slightly thaw out so that it’s becomes a paste. Then spread it over the top of your ham before baking as a glaze.
Try it with duck! My mom makes it for the holidays.
Load More Replies...When it comes to whether or not there’s anything that’s considered normal today that will make us feel extremely old in a few decades, Dave says that's becoming less of an issue than it once was, as society will continue to use the Internet and smartphones. “Over time, technology will simply become more powerful and invasive,” he explained. “Culturally, I fear that physical retail (aside from Wal-Mart) will be largely kicked to the curb in favor of clicking ‘add to cart’ from the comfort of the couch. I doubt that malls as we know them will be around forever.”
So Cool. I Loved Mine
Wooly Wílly. And BP just censored the word wílly. Hilarious!
Ceramic Christmas Trees! Very Nostalgic For Me
In the 60's - 70's, the Navy base in Groton, CT had a ceramics studio for the use of sailors and their dependents. You could choose your mold, buy the "slip" in a gallon jug and make your own. They would fire it for 5, 10, 25 cents each. This same Christmas Tree mold was a popular item!
There was a ceramics studio near Grosse Ile, Michigan. My mom made several of the Christmas trees and a 36 inch tall Pinky and Blue Boy statues.
Load More Replies...My grandma had a small one of these that looked very delicate and pretty. She always got it out when we came over for Christmas. She's now 95 and living in a nursing home, since she knows it's my favorite she gave it to me to use for next Christmas. I'm going to put it on my book case and think of her.
We have one of these that my grandmother made in ceramics class in the 70's. It's not X-mas until this tree is set up. Ours also has a cut out under the tree where you put little white figurines of baby Jesus, Mary, and Joseph.
My mom worked with special needs kids at my grade school and they made these. My base broke...any help would ba appreciated!! I remember all this stuff. Take me back now...
We had one that used tinfoil as needles, and used a 4 color rotating wheel. Placed in window, the 3'/1m tree would change color.
there's this place called potteryland in my town, and you basically paint premade pottery and pay them to fire it. They have these year round but I think they may get more expensive during Christmas. They come with the lights and everything!
The We're Out Of Buns Hot Dog
Technically they're precooked but I wouldn't eat them cold.
Load More Replies...Does the poster seriously think this technique was lost to the ages? We’re not talking Greek Fire here.
When I was growing up, these were our only buns. We used bread for burgers too. The way my parents were, I'm surprised we didn't use it for tacos too lol
Unless it was 4th of July or a big family picnic, we only had bread for buns. I still think my husband is pretty spoiled because he always expects us to buy buns even if it is just the two of us
Load More Replies...THANK YOU I try not to complain when my partner makes one for me, because he always does it on the horizontal. Beggars can't be choosers and all that, but surely he's seen me make my own often enough to know better, LOL
Load More Replies...“I'm glad that I grew up in the '80s and '90s, but honestly, I wish I was older!” Dave added. “My parents were married for nine years before I was conceived in a seminary dorm in 1980. It would have been incredible to experience the '80s as a teenager.”
If you’d like to learn more about Dave’s love for nostalgia or reminisce about your own youth by reading through his blog, be sure to check out Retro Injection right here!
And This Type Of Skillet
My nan made the best piklets in one of those. I'm yet to get similar results in modern frypans, there was just something different about the way they made the vintage pans.
The metal bottom was thicker, so they took longer to heat, distributing that heat more evenly. At least, that's my theory.
Load More Replies...pancake day at school, parent volunteers and teachers would bring them in; my grandparents would use theirs to fry fish.
My parents got one of these (in this exact avocado green) as a wedding gift in 1963; my dad still uses it 60 years later (mom passed away in 2017.) This image gave me intense flashbacks of waking up to the smell of blueberry pancakes on Saturday morning as a kid!
1 Cent For A Handful Of Gum
Still two minutes and fifty seconds longer than a piece of fruit stripe. The pink ones were the best!
Load More Replies...Good, clean, hygienic gas station food from yesteryear. Also available in cashew or peanuts, you would always get pieces of broken nuts reduced to powder as they disintegrated / decayed over many months.
And they dispense from a metal tube that probably hasn't been cleaned in years
oh god i miss those =(. Anyone remember the quarter machine that gave you mini football helmets? i REALLY miss those
6 chocolate covered licorice bullets for one penny (c1962, Australia)
I would spin these slowly, to see if I could get it just right where I could empty the machine! I still do, and will continue until I find out how these things work
Best Stocking Stuffers Ever
yes! there used to be some fireworks that had these in them too, you shoot off the firework and they would come floating back down
You can still get them. Windy last 4th of July we polluted our neighbors trees last year and it was a sight in the morning!
Load More Replies...Sadly, like most things these are still available, but nowhere near the quality they were 40 years ago. (I'm really sounding like an old crank today... oh, wait, that's right--I am an old crank. Get off my lawn!)
*flashbacks of chucking these off the little "loft" upstairs (above the staircase if ykwim) never to be seen again*
I lost tons of these. I had a spot to toss them when the winds got really strong. Probably ended up over in NJ.
I could never figure these out and I had to call for my mother to untangle me

Oh Boy Do I Remember... I Think Every Household Had One. Ours Was White!
Red! I loved playing on it at my grandmas house
Load More Replies...Definitely prefer these to other stepladders. These also folded up and fit perfectly in that space between the fridge and the wall.
I have several of these style chairs. Found one just like the red one in the pic on the side of the road for free that started the collection.
Alice Cooper And The Muppets
It's time to put on make-up, it's time to dress on right....
It's time to get things started, why don't you get things started, on the Muppet show tonight....
Load More Replies...Felt very old having recently rewatched the Muppet Show many/most stars of the era have passed away. It was bittersweet.
Roy Rogers. (He annoyed Dale Evans by telling the Muppeteers that when he died, he wanted to be stuffed and placed on Trigger.)
Load More Replies...One of my favorite episodes. Alice talking to Satan on a secret radio. Schools Out live. So good.
I’m not even that old and I still think the muppets are amazing, gonzo is obviously the best tho
i still watch clips on YouTube, especially Animals drum battles.
Load More Replies...When I was a kid, The Muppet Show was quite frustrating to watch. Not enough goofiness, too much singing, and I didn't know a single featured artist. Now it's making a lot more sense to me.
This Hawaiian Punch That Needed A Can Opener
This was definitely still a thing in the 1990s. I remember punching holes in the can of Juicy Juice before they converted over to the juice box.
This Gum
I sooooo miss these, the cinnamon one was my favourite . The only cinnamon gum I can find is when I go to Italy. Unless someone in the UK has seen some somewhere? And how long did you keep it in your mouth before you finally succumbed to biting it?
We have cinnamon gum here in the states! I'll tell you what, we will trade houses for a couple of months, I will live in the UK, you can live in Colorado and eat all of the cinnamon gum you want!! Someone in the UK wants to trade for a bit, right??
Load More Replies...It wasn't called that in Australia. It was ever more risque. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAsNZ_-h16Y

We used this in the 70s/early 80s. Always thought it was cool to be sitting with it going lol
This or the big plastic helmet dryer, with hair in pink plastic foam rollers and pin curls. Took forever.
My very long hair took much longer to dry. Couldn't hear much with this thing running.
I have an updated version of this that attaches to a blowdryer. I use it to set my pin curls.
The Work You Had To Put In Just To Open Up And Eat This Candy
Saw these recently at a store commented on the weirdness of seeing them after so long. Twenty year old cashier observed that I must be as old as his dad.
Just chew it up. Swallow the wax after chewing it awhile. Needless to say, I was regularly irregular.
Oof. I used to just eat the wax because I that that's what you were supposed to do
you always swallowed wax.. I had one when I was little,it was something...
They all had juice inside; never chewed the wax, but you had to bite thru it to get the good flvr
The Struggle Was Real
I’m ashamed to say, my friends and I would screw up a couple of phone book pages, and stick them up the coin return slot so coins wouldn’t come out. Then come back and remove it and spend our ill gotten gains on lollies. Don’t worry tho, I’ve been on the straight and narrow ever since! 😀
Don’t feel bad. When I was young and poor, I used to check coin return slots, just in case. If I was lucky, I put the change in a jar. When the jar was finally full, I took it to the bank to be counted and deposited in my account. Back in the day, my bank account was in feast or famine mode (feast on payday, famine once I paid the rent/bills (depending on what week of the month it was), and bought groceries and gas.

Mine’s the larger one, gotten after the late seventies model (given to me when I moved into my own place) finally died after about 35 years. It served me well, especially when I was single and living on my own. Before leaving for work, all I had to do to have a hot meal all ready when I got home, was to dump the raw ingredients in the crockpot and turn it on. One less chore to do when I got home. My large crockpot is now 22 years old, gets used a lot, and STILL has plenty of life in it.
Load More Replies...I bought my first one last year. I love it. 5min prep time for great soups, chili or stews
I STILL have one that is like 45 years old... a Rival with removable crock. AND it STILL works!
I still have this one and it still works. It was a hand me down. Have no idea how old it is.
walking in the door after school and the house smells like Mom's pot roast. yum
Made Plenty Of Them Back In The Day, But I Wouldnt Have An Idea How To Make Them Today
OMG, I'd forgotten all about these until I saw the picture - and I even remember how to make them!
I still regret throwing mine away. Had to have been six feet long, and was still shorter than the one my sister made. I still remember how, too, but I don't really chew gum anymore.
Load More Replies...I never learned to make these, but we did do the competition for who could make the longest strip using a single wrapper.
Fruitstripe gum is still around in a few places (ok, I live in the middle of nowhere so it may have been here since the 1970s?).
Went To Grammy's House And She's Got This On The Wall... Nice Can Opener But I Love The Lightswitch Covers Even Better!
What about it? The knobs on the handles were red out of the package. This one had most of it rubbed off, after so many years.
Load More Replies...You can still get decorated switch plates, but they're pricey. If you're crafty at all, you can design your own. The one in my bathroom isn't just decorated, it's dimensional. It's a long story, but the plate is Little Both Peep complete with sheep and hills. Probably older than me, but it's in good shape. Faded colors now, but totally intact. No cracks or chips, indestructible!!!
You can still get the can opener, too. It's a swing-a-way. Best one you can get! I have one I need to put up
we had one of those and it was on the wall in the corner of the kitchen
When The Wendy's Back Packaging Was Still Yellow
Do you all remember when they use to have a Mexican bar with tacos and stuff?
Yes, Salad/Taco/Chili, it was the best. And the red train caboose dining section.
Load More Replies...The food was so good then too. Not the pointy, salty strings they sell now. And the burgers - I mean where's the beef? It's just a giant thick bun now with obnoxious thick pickles. You can't taste the burger at all.
Wasn’t “where’s the beef?!” Wendy’s tag line for years?
Load More Replies...They did! They literally did! You would have to order the potato from the counter, but then you could top it with whatever you wanted, from the salad bar!
Load More Replies...Who Was Lucky Enough To Get This!??
Scalextric! you can still buy them today but they are one of those "expensive" toys now.
Some day, I'll have a slotcar track on my ceiling, and cars that have huge spoilers and, therefore, downforce ... upforce, ... to lay on my bed and have a race with whoever happens around...
I challenge you for the title of champion of the universe!
Load More Replies...My lil bro got this for his Bday, Christmas & New Year
Remember when there were shops you could go to to race slot cars? 1808141737...13c833.jpg
Our attick[ beginning of the70's] was constructed as a large racing circuit. Carrera: Loops, bridges, junctions all together about 10m by 4m? During birthday parties Dad & Uncles were suddenly gone and having a blast. 🤣
My grandmother used to sit down on the floor with us kids and play race cars like this with us. Great memory.
Usually played with the "Hot Wheel" track...never could get 'em to do loop the loop with out them flying off.
This Cake With The Foil
Much better than plastic! We used to ball up the foil and my cat would bat is around. No other foil ball would work. He was only interested in these.
And, they had cut out baseball cards on the back. You had to search through the stacks of them to find the cards you did not have.
I remember I’ve seen one somewhere but it’s one of those memories where you only know you have but you don’t know when it happened or where it came from
Yummmmy - Big Boy Was Great
This is only nostalgic if you’ve left SoCal. Big Big is alive and well.
Fried chicken on the front seat, sittin' on my lap, we're wiping our fingers on a Texaco road map....
They had the best ice-cream brownie dessert. I used to take my sister and share one when she was small.
My mom would take us to Bob's next to the mall for dinner after shopping. I was just wishfully thinking about their burgers the other day. 🤤
The Mid 60s Miracle
OMG! I still have one! It's poop brown and tan. You almost have to rinse it out with javex so you don't taste the past 40 years of whatever was in it!
Pretty sure I've got a brown and tan one too. But it's so long since it's been used I'd be kinda scared to do so.
Load More Replies...Ours was as well, we used to mix vodka & tonic and smuggle it on to the beach. I should have been a bootlegger.
Load More Replies...Seeing this in the kitchen, I always knew that we were going to the lake. What a wonderful memory!
Ours was green and accompanied us on many Sunday School Picnics. It had a plastic cup under the lid.
Was that the brand that was lined with aluminum and your water would taste like metal?
Who Remembers Kukla, Fran And Ollie?
I do. I also remember Romper Room, Shari Lewis and Lamb Chop, Bozo the Clown, Captain Kangaroo, the initial reruns of the original Mickey Mouse Club, all the classic Saturday morning cartoons (real classic, like the old MGM cartoons, Tom and Jerry, Bigs Bunny, Road Rinnier, etc), and especially Rocky and Bullwinkle (my all-time favorite!).
Captain Kangaroo! Did you have Mr Dressup? The Friendly Giant?
Load More Replies...It's a shame no one remembers the man behind the puppets, Burr Tillstrom, who was the creator and ONLY puppeteer on the show. All of these creatures were his creations. He mentored both Shari Lewis and Jim Henson, so the man knew his stuff.
This came on after the standard kids cartoons on Saturday morning. They presented children’s movies from overseas: a gamekeeper in the USSR and his beloved bobcat, a medieval Polish boy and his beloved curly-toe slippers, and “Hand in Hand” from the UK about a Catholic boy and Jewish girl running away to Africa. It was an example of an almost nonexistent genre “prestige children’s programming.”
Hosted by Fran Allison. Produced here in Chicago. I remember it well.
Did You Eat Cottage Cheese And Canned Peaches? I Still Do Today
My dad would make pear mice. Bed of cottage cheese, half a canned pear and raisins for the eyes and a shaved carrot slice for the tale!
Candy Cigars
If You've Ever Had A Long, Loooooong Night After Having Some Of This
Boone's Farm, Annie Green Springs, Ripple, MD 20/20, and if we could afford it, Riunite - I remember them all from my misspent youth. ;-)
And then when we got older, we got classier and switched to Bartles & Jaymes wine coolers!

Anyone Here Old Enough To Remember This Classic
"There's a holdup in the Bronx, Brooklyn's broken out in fights. There's a traffic jam in Harlem, That's backed up to Jackson Heights. There's a scout troop short a child, Khrushchev's due at Idlewild. Car 54, Where Are You?" I am post this era but in NYC, everyone knows this song. Idlewild Airport is now called JFK, and and backed up to Jackson Heights is a reference to how almost anything can cause the Grand Central Parkway to backup
Fred Gwynne was a cultivated, kind man. But his co-star Joe Ross was someone worth crossing the street in heavy traffic to avoid https://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2011/01/king-of-slobs.html
I still remember snippets I heard as a kid in the 60s. On my Tubi to-watch list
I Remember Telling My Mom I Wanted A Pair But She Couldn't Find Them In 1959 So I Got My Sisters Hand Me Downs... She Is 6 Yrs Older Than Me But I Didn't Complain
I had a pair of these when I was a child, another pair with heels and a platform when I was a teenager, and yet another pair when I was in my twenties. I’m 62.
“Saddle shoes”. All the rage in the 50’s and stuck around for several come-backs.
Load More Replies...Yuup!
I am over 60 and these were considered antiques when I was a child, so probably older.
Same. I’m 62, and we always had washers and dryers that pretty much looked like they still do today. However, my mother had a distinct preference for having washing up outside to dry. She’d use the dryer, but only when it was raining or too cold to hang washing outside.
Load More Replies...I'm 64 and this washing machine predates me. But I do remember some people having them in the basement and still using it.
I'm 66 and this is the exact washer my mom used until I was 12.
Load More Replies...My granny, who would have been 94 this year, said she had one when she first got married in the 40's. It sat on their porch, and since it had rollers and would agitate, they had to tie it down to keep it from rolling itself off the porch.
These are way older than me. You were "rich" if the wringer was electric. Just don't get your fingers near that thing.
Legitimate hazard as well as many other body parts that met the wringer!
Load More Replies...my Granny had one, my Mom's Mom and it scared me, ha ha ha
Ever Use These? I Have Pictures To Remind Me Just How Bad My Hair Looked Afterwards

Load More Replies...Are these perm curlers? Nice german word: Dauerwellenwickler. Worst was the permanent wave growing out.
hair curlers, I remember when these were all the rage to curl your hair, as kids we would put them in hoping for ringlets but they never seemed to work very well for us.
This is the first time I've seen them , and I wish I'd read the title first
Lilt Home Perm. The smell was so invasive you could hardly breathe. Mother gave me one every year just in time for school pictures!
Bad home permanents your mother—-who was not a professional hairdresser—-gave you. You cried for six months to a year, until it was all grown out and the burnt frizzy c**p could be shut off the bottom. Stupid thing is, I was born with wavy curly hair. Either it wasn’t curly enough for my mother, or she was trying to control the way it curled. Either way, her permanents were awful.
OMG, home perms were the worst!! It's a wonder any of us have hair left...
Gee, It Really Did Smell Terrific!
The best shampoo EVER ! I can still remember the incredible smell. Will stay with me forever. Wish it would come back, I'd buy it by the case.
Look online. I think you can still find it. Unless its formula has been changed.
Load More Replies...Clairol Herbal Essence was another big deal when I was in high school.
I remember the commercials but I never used it. When I was old enough to get a job, I bought Finesse. I thought I was so special.
There was also Lemon Up, Body on tap and herbal essence came out then too.
Yeah, I was a Body on Tap gal back then. Seemed to make my hair so thick and I loved the smell! Imagine selling the idea of beer for your hair these days, lol. Ad from 1978 w/Kim Basinger: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rtrhZBWlsQ
Load More Replies...herbal essence....i want the original scent of herbal essence back!!
We teased my older sister unbearably when she got a bottle of this! We'd sneak up behind her and smell her hair, lol.
Do You Remember This Snocone Maker?
I bet it was yummy and all, but all I can think about is, dont eat a yellow snow cone...
I had one. You didn’t use snow, it crushed ice cubes to make the sno-cone. It also came with liquid flavoring, which usually got used up fast.
Load More Replies...Good lord! What about the Easy Bake Oven? I had one in 1976 that was in the shape of an old cast iron stove. I had everything Holly Hobby!

Some gas stations still have free air. It’s just very uncommon now.

1960's McDonald's Menu... Oh Boy Take Me Back
My favorite was A & W's Mama burger for 55 cents. Fries were 20 cents.
Could get a hamburger, fries and chocolate shake for less then a dollar on the way home from field trips. This was in the late 60’s and early 70’s.
I miss mac's root beer, they haven't sold it in the UK for donkeys.
Look Familiar To Anyone?
Bored CisHet suburban married couples in their 30s??? That’s what idea I get.
Load More Replies...It's more than a camera, it's almost alive, it costs twenty-four dollars and ninety five.
Supposedly the name came from it swinging from your wrist, you naughty people! Seeing as the camera was made between 1965-1970, I'd say it predates the other use of the word swinger. Otherwise, dig the groovy theme song, "Meet The Swinger", as sung by Barry Manilow (he did a ton of ads before hitting it big in the '70s) and starring a young Ali MacGraw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z43tyvpK8us
Meet the swinger.the Polaroid Swinger. It's more than a camera. It's almost a live. It's only $19 and 95 etc.
I Worked On One Of These Years Ago. They Were Really Cool. And Look At That Tea Kettle, Gorgeous
My folks had a stove similar to this bought in 1963-4. Sold with the house in 2000, still worked.,
I had a tea kettle like that. Found it at an antique store in 1991 and used it up until recently. (I wonder what happened to it? Maybe one of he women in my household donated it behind my back?)
The fact you could program a start time and end time, Dinner hot and ready when you came home. Not seen that on modern ovens.
60s Fashion
The late Queen Elizabeth II carried this style of handbag throughout her life.
Filled with tissues, at least one broken lipstick, sweeties that tasted like perfume..
Load More Replies...Still prefer these to the unstructured floppy purses offered today, that also don’t close very well. Hard to find, but treasures when located.

Do You Remember When
Does anyone know if this is blueing? I know you can still buy it in liquid form.
If You Have A Very, Very Strong Opinion About Liver And Onions
My mom swore we loved it as kids. I think she was a dirty, dirty liar
Lol. My mom called it “cowboy steak” in an attempt to trick us into eating it. Probably would have worked if the smell of it cooking wasn’t such a foul turnoff.
Load More Replies...One of my mother’s favorite meals, nd one I cannot bide, nor could anyone else in the family, including my father. She ignored that, and would periodically subject us to this horror. My father used to get up from the table, make himself a sandwich, and sit back down. Then he’d look at us kids, and ask if we wanted sandwiches too. Then he’d make all of us, except my mother, sandwiches. He wasn’t the mean one here, however. My mother knew noone else in the household, including the dog, liked liver. If she wanted it, she could’ve just fixed a plate for herself. It was unfair of her to try and force the rest of us to eat it.
Yummy, slow cooked lambs liver in gravy with onions, mashed potato and swede
What Did You Call This?? Besides "Dinner!"
creamed chipped beef on toast. chipped beef is dry beef and the sauce is kind of bechamel sauce.
We never had sh!t on a shingle at my house when I was growing up. My dad said he ate enough of it when he was in the Army. ;-)
Did anyone else used to eat Welsh Rarebit on toast? We frequently had it for dinner. The Stouffers version that comes frozen in a block and gets cooked in the microwave. (Usually followed by Stouffers baked apples for dessert - also frozen and heated in the microwave) Except for years I thought it was called Welsh Rabbit - I could never figure out where the rabbit part came from. :)
Breakfast once a week at our house. Grew up WAY before preschool's and breakfast's at school.
Vintage 1960s Royal Shake A Pudd'n Box
I remember these. When Snak-Pak came out with their ready-made puddings—-which tasted a whole lot better back in the day than they do now—-no one wanted to have to find hot water to make their pudding.

Avocado green! .75 cent Hershey chocolate bars, and gas was 59 cents a gallon!
I have an egg cooker that's from the 70s. My mom had bought me a nice new one when I got married, but compared to her old one, it was terrible. I talked to her about why - I didn't want to sound ungrateful - she totally understood my reasoning and bought me one like hers off eBay.
