What I instantly thought of was that all those "grey" people ("extras", if you will) around us on the bus/train each have an entire universe around them too, just like us, (in their minds (depicted here ^) and in terms of friends, family), we just never get to see it.

That looks more like Photoshop to me. Even if there was a highway built right next to a railway somewhere in the world, I don't think it would really be possible to take such a photo. Or I must be very mistaken. Those cars are too close to be realistic (in my humble opinion). I have been taking the train almost every day for almost 20 years and have also regularly taken photos from a train for years, so I have some experience in that area.
