Batik
As the sunlight gets through the ceiling, this woman completes her Batik painting, one of Indonesia's most ancient craft. By @letyliza, Lety Liza (Indonesia)
I want to know more about her and her amazing art. I imagine she's had to have a lot of patience and talent for that detail. It's stunning!
Old Ladies
A 67-year-old friendship between these two Chin women. By @tunpaingaung, TunPaingAung (Myanmar)
Stunning photograph! I love their warm expressions and their earrings (the little flower pots). They look like they would have some great stories.
The Women2019 photo contest takes viewers on a feminine tour with images of women worldwide. Showcasing stories of powerful, independent and brave women from all over the globe, from all walks of life. The contest aims to allow the artists the opportunity to express their answers to the question “what is a woman?”
Old Woman
Traditional face tattoo from the Chin tribe, settling near the Bangladesh/Myanmar border. In an attempt to protect their daughters from being stolen by neighboring tribes, parents would tattoo their young child's face to intend to make them undesirable for other tribes. This practice is no longer permitted by the Burmese authorities. By @yepyaesoehlaing, Ye Pyae Soe Hlaing (Myanmar)
She looks like she could kick my a** - while still smoking her pipe.
Load More Replies...OMG, she's utterly beautiful. You can see the life she lived in her eyes, and so much determination in her face (with a touch of "I don't care what you think of me").
That's so sad! Could they not find a single other way to protect their daughters than to do this to them?
Many cultures have facial tattoos for whatever reason.
Load More Replies...Champa Eyes
Upon a visit to Phan Rang city, the photographer got impressed with this little girl's eyes. Her name is Sapa from the Champa ethnic minority group (she's wearing the traditional scarf). Her brothers and sisters have whether brown or blue eyes, she has both. By @Tuanngocphoto, Do Tuang (Vietnam)
Adeel Chishti with his photograph "Hidden Beauty" was voted the winner of the “Women 2019” contest.
In the finalist photographs, we were looking above all for them to be powerful and inspiring, just as women are. The images had to show the enormous strength, bravery and beauty (not only exterior but above all interior) of all the women.
Life
When two or more women gather an economy is built. When there is equality, there is a quality of life. By @eighthman, Michael Aboya (Ghana)
These images of feminine strength and solidarity should be much higher up, they have such innate beauty and convey so much of women's inner life with other women.
Women Protesting For Legal Abortion In Argentina
This photo was taken in front of Argentina's National Congress where thousands of women marched to claim for their rights. Although the bill was approved by the chamber of deputies, the Senate rejected it - today, abortion remains illegal in Argentina. By @franciscopaez, Francisco Paez (Argentina)
Not smart enough? Nope! How about a lack of contraceptives because the women can't afford them or aren't in an area where they can obtain them? Also, even if they can get them, contraception doesn't always work. Please don't judge.
yup, and there are so many countries without access to period pads or tampons let alone contraceptives, and there are cultures where the woman has absolutely no self determination, including when and how she has sex
Load More Replies...let's put aside the ethical ramifications of abortion for a moment - and consider that to not have the choice at all, to have to face the law as a criminal regardless of the circumstances of your pregnancy, to force a victim of rape, or force a woman to bear a child when she is financially, mentally, physically not prepared - is quite simply terrifying. That's what these women are fighting for. Abortion is rarely decided flippantly and its not used as an alternative to birth control as some alarmists would have you believe. And laws can be put in place to prevent very late term abortions (even then it should depend on several things - condition of baby, health of mother and so on). There should be no country in the world that forces a woman, and in disturbingly frequent cases a child, to go through with a pregnancy, and as we all know, there is life changing responsibility for the resulting baby that is born.
thank you. i know it's extremely controversial, and i'm not saying that either side is completely wrong, but it is important to take a moment and try to empathize with these women. like you said, it would be terrifying to go through, and we definitely should not force that upon anybody, or make them feel like horrible people for wanting an abortion.
Load More Replies...Too many many view women in the same way a bull views his cows - fertility showcases HIS masculinity, while the rest of it is the cows' problem. Time for a truly HUMAN attitude to prevail.
It was approved at the end of 2020, so from January of 2021 women have had the right to an abortion up until 14 weeks.
How about support for a woman's right to say no? Maybe contraception availability? 🙄
Because participating in something like that could get them retaliated against. Women have been fired from jobs, assaulted and even killed for this type of thing.
Load More Replies...You shout what an evil abortion is, but after the birth it done doesn't matter if the child is hungry, dirty, unpoor, sick and has no money for education and other things. No one cares anymore, and even less if the child is crippled. Now it's up to the mother to take care of it, right?

This actually shows how religion is forced down the throats of children who do not understand anything of the world just yet. If they choose to wear hijab, this is not the age to do so. They are not women, they are still children!
It's the same thing as christianity, kids are forced to go to church and pray and they might not believe but it's still shoved down their throats
Load More Replies...How is it that every other picture on this post all the women are praised for being so strong but the moment people see girls with a hijab on its all “This actually shows how religion is forced down the throats of children “ Like tf?? Did these girls come and tell you that they were being forced to wear it? Who knows maybe their mothers wore it and they wanted to wear it too. When they're older then they can decide if they want to wear it or not like leave them alone. All I see when I look at this picture is three little girls enjoying a lollipop so leave them the hell alone and let them wear a hijab. Easy as that.
Preach!! makes me wonder if the people saying that also think that when they see a young hijabi woman walk down the street: "oh, she must be oppressed, it must have been forced on her". you're taking away a woman's right to choose around her body. that counts for revealing AND concealing. freedom counts for both your choices and other people's
Load More Replies...I see 3 cute little girls sharing an ice cream.... I don't give a s**t about their headwear.... It's their religion, fkn get over it...
I bet you'd have a lot to say had they been christians.
Load More Replies...I did not understand why a woman would agree to a hijab, then I watched a documentary. I WANTED to learn why. Each woman explained her own reasons for choosing to wear the hijab. My favorite answer was that a young lady chose to wear her hijab because it was seen as a sign of modesty and therefore not available to be hit on. This young woman was engaged, so to her it showed to everyone she met that she was saving herself for only her husband, she was not available to anyone. As many times as I've been catcalled and propositioned like some common ho on corner, it has disgusted me. I recently had sexual assault forced on me, and I actively do things each to to prevent men from seeing me as available to even approach or hit on or flirt with. So yeah I totally understand why women choose to wear the hijab now, and I am grateful that I chose to learn more. These little girls grow up seeing these beautiful female role models still being strong while wearing her hijab (honestly we all know it's us women holding together the family, household, kids, bills, shopping, supplies, and SO, literally everything is held together by the woman of the family. Idk why we haven't all banded together and taken over this unjust, horrible "mans world" by now, obviously us ladies can do a much better job running the country and the world and the economy and groceries!! ( No offense to stay at home dad's or anyone, just trying to show my fellow ladies how badass we are and we don't even notice!!
I appreciate people like you who actively try to understand other people, and I'm so sorry about your assault. :(

Kayan women, also known as 'giraffe women' traditionally wear neck-rings from the age of 8. The photographer captured here a sweet mother-daughter moment. By @wadiaye, Wadi Aye (Myanmar)
They might say the same thing about women in our culture. To them, this is beautiful. Who are we to judge?
Load More Replies...after years and years of wearing those rings, they cannot live without them. their meaning of beauty will be their death
This was a, very horrible, way to control women lifes, if they did something theyr husband didn't like he proceeded to remove one, or more, ring an let the woman live a miserable time. Fortunately the modern ones are just fake rings to wear when some stupid tourist goes to visit the village to take some scenographic pictures
This is a myth of grand proportions. It's a cultural identity thing, to look like a dragon, according to Kayans I've spoken to. The coils in modern times are not fake rings either, they are the same traditional rings.
Load More Replies...I kinda wish this had been done to me, though obvs not to the extreme, just a little. Because I have like no neck.
It doesn't really lengthen the neck. I've seen a documentary about a woman who had to have them removed for a surgery and they did x-rays. The neck is what it is. What it mostly does is push the collarbone and the ribcage really really low. I wonder if women still do this - based on the picture it looks like they kept a reasonable amount that you can take on and off.
Load More Replies...I heard half the reason they do this is for tourism, at least a couple of places anyway.
It's mainly tourism, or at least practised by a minority. I spent two months teaching English in a Karen village. Nobody there wore neck rings.
