My name is Martynas and I am a photographer from Lithuania. This year I tried to capture not only beautiful landscapes of the country I live in but also wild animals using drone photography.

Getting up early became my routine and checking weather forecast was my priority. While there is some planning before beautiful nature shots, the same cannot be said about drone photos of animals since you almost can't plan a shot unless it is cattle or bison.

While cows or horses are easy to deal with, it cannot be said about roe deers. It is very hard to capture an aerial view of roe deers using a drone but there is a technique that helps a bit (I succeeded only once after a dozen tries). What amazed me a lot is the calm reaction of the fox which did not mind the drone at all. Male deers stand bravely while female deers keep a safer distance.

I wonder what he thought of your drone.

By far one of the calmest animals. Did not try to attack it but did not run away either. Just watched or even looked somewhere else.

Well, "wild" does not really qualify for cattle, nice shot nonetheless.

People would go up in big hot air balloons in hot summer evenings. The cows would see them coming a few hundred feet up and hear people talking and they'd race for home. Dust swirling, the herd spinning in circles, under the trees, in the cowyard while the dogs stood in the lane into the pasture barking as loud as they possibly could at the crazy apparition floating overhead. That was the one thing that our cows absolutely lost their minds over.

We've wondered if we were really mean we could use a drone to chase the neighbors cows through the fence with a drone. But then we'd have to act like good neighbors do and help get the cows back and then help fix the fence......A friend of ours was drunk one night and drove his car through our fence. He parked the car in the yard and slept while we milked cows. Then, he got out of the car and helped Dad fix the fence. Dad said he was almost silent, half bent over, threw up twice and went to his knees once but he proved he was a man sticking out fixing the fence. We fed him a bunch of water and aspirin, then let him sleep in his car some more. Then, when he was up to it we fed him a meal and sent him home.....Memories.

What is the name of the tower? Does it have significant history?

Actually, this is me standing on the Birzai observation Tower. It was a cold winter evening and I tried to picture myself with sky lanterns. Not a huge success though since lanterns barely moved up (but at some point they did). The tower itself is impressive and very unusual structure, worth visiting. THere you go with more information and some images in the daylight: http://www.visitbirzai.lt/en/the_view_tower

Those look like luminaries. We release those on our Walks for Cancer. Here, in Canada, they stand for a soul that cancer has stolen.

Thanks! The fox was incredibly brave and did not mind drone at all. I could easily fly around the fox and it did not pay attention to it.
