We all love our pets. Humans have kept domesticated animals for thousands of years now and they provide us with companionship and protection while fulfilling our desire to nurture.
But having pets comes with great responsibility. To the animal obviously - this creature now relies on you for its quality of life and you need to ensure its physical and emotional needs are met. And to other people too - you should be able to look after your animal and keep it healthy and happy in such a way that doesn't encroach on the lives of others.
Simple really, isn't it? Well, not to everyone. This list, compiled by the good folks here at Bored Panda, is a catalog of shame, showing the times when pet owners were jerks not only to their poor animals but to society at large. From the liberal dumpings of excrement to just flat-out animal neglect, these people don't deserve to be let anywhere near an animal again, and makes you wonder if perhaps it was time people had to get a license to have a pet.

Bored Panda spoke to Tinsley Dahl from the Alliance for Responsible Pet Ownership, who kindly gave us some important points to remember before taking the big decision of getting a pet. It's not a responsibility to take lightly!
"Before you start meeting adorable puppy eyes or pretty kitten paws that you just cannot refuse, take some time to sit down with your family and consider your overall schedule and energy level," she said. "How long will you be gone during an average day? What’s your activity level? Do you spend weekends away from home? Do you take daily walks or do outdoor activities currently?"
"Sometimes life can be unpredictable, and if you’re planning any big lifestyle changes, these can be an important consideration. Planning on getting married or starting a family soon? Socialization will be key for your pet to ensure that your best buddy is welcoming of new family members. For dogs, obedience training and proper activity can be important to curb undesirable behaviors. Big changes can be very stressful for humans, and pets under duress can experience behavior and health changes due to stressful environmental changes."

For Years, Vegan Blogger Sonia Sae Has Been Allegedly Raising Her Pet Fox Jumanji On A Vegan Diet Because She Thinks That All Species Are Equals
Sae has already admitted that Jumanji is half blind, suffers from spontaneous convulsions and a severe skin condition. However, she refuses to believe that this is because of what do foxes eat. “They use the word ‘abuse’ to describe the act of feeding [it] food that no animal had to die for. Despite the obvious oxymoron, any other non-vegan alternative DOES involve abuse by default,” she said in a Facebook post.

We have super lax exotic pet laws here and my friend owns an animal sanctuary bc of stupid people like her that think it's cool to get an unusual pet but have done zero research to prepare for caring for the animal to have the best life possible.

Here's the problem, and before I state this... please don't hate on me. I don't care if your Vegan, Vegitarian, or eat bubbles. BUT at the end of the day. Technically none of us were MEANT to eat meat, but our ancestors did and now it can be rough go to NOT eat meat. If it's your personal choice to not eat meat fine. I don't hate on you but, I can sort of agree with you a little but: I am allergic to all types of beans, peas, nuts, almonds, and also eggs. However, I am not allergic against meat. So I'll eat meat. If I stopped eating meat there would be pretty much a protein free/super low protein diet for me which I don't think anyone should be on. Please think a couple of steps further as everyone are NOT capable of going veggie.

I remember this horrible abuse from Bored Panda many months ago! The fox was already in terrible condition then. Maybe it has passed away by now. If so, the little angel is in heaven. This woman is beyond an idiot, she's so ignorant and arrogant it's almost beyond belief. I think the reason why she had not been reported and the fox taken away from her had to do with the lack of strict anti-animal abuse laws in the country where she lives.

The poor creature needs to be removed from her immediately. Just looking at the pictures, you can see the fox is extremely thin and unhealthy. Look at those nails. ..... I can't even figure out what to say about this. My friend owns a wild animal sanctuary... She is extremely well versed and continues to learn to provide the various animals top care regardless the cost. Unfortunately many of them are from idiots like this lady who thought it would be "cool" to have an exotic animal/pet and never thinking beyond that and the sheer amount of extra care necessary to give them a full and enriched life. Example: grandparents who thought a baby tiger would be a GREAT gift to give their 2yr old grandson. We got it in less than 4 months. People are just dumb so so many times

Its a shame to see this is still going around, sadly I shared this on facebook a couple years ago without looking into it first, I took it down after I did some research. The fox has had documented health issues his whole life, and suffers from horrible seasonal allergies. These photos that are used as proof of abuse / neglect were all taken when either he was at the height of his allergies or directly after she had gotten him when he was in the worst shape. He is happy and healthy otherwise and from what I can see, is very well cared for. Im all for getting animals out of the hands of unsuitable owners, this however, is not that.

When we had a truck, the dog was on a leash, with the pass thru window open. He'd prop himself up in that window, and I would hold the leash. In the car, he wore a seatbelt.

Me too! I've had taken cats or dogs from the local SPCA and cherished my 4 legged friends to the last breath. My best friends have always been the 4 legged type. Love all animal life, except some of the human verity. The only times I was disappointed with my little friends was when they died. My husband and myself have cried so much each time we lost one of our 4 legged babies. Can't understand such abjecte behavior

I don’t understand these people. YOU DON’T HAVE TO GET A PET! No one is forcing you to adopt an animal! If you can’t take adequate care of yourself then you should not have a pet (or a child for that matter). Pets are not accessories. They also require a proper diet to be healthy—not vegan. Pets are a commitment, if you are too unstable to take care of an animal for the length of their life then DON’T GET ONE. Pets love their owners, they aren’t trash or furniture to discard when you change apartments. These are living, breathing, caring creatures... please treat them that way. **I will get off my soapbox now**

Friends I know have two Border Collies. Working breed with high needs. My friends bought them as cute puppies (Littermate Syndrome) trained them for a bit then gave up. Locked the dogs in a “run” (it’s not.. it’s a cage) and they don’t get let out “because they run away and won’t come back for hours” I said probably because you didn’t train them... what about walking them. But they cant walk the dogs “because they jump up” MAYBE BECAUSE THEY HAVE S**T TON ENERGY AND NO TRAINING? Their Dad sometimes would run them in the moring but he was going away for 7 months. So I begged them to let me walk them. Long story short I trained the dogs to walk nicely, not to jump up and to sit and come. I got told not to come back when I finally snapped. The dogs had no water again.. the bowl leaked so I smashed it and got a new one from laying around, s**t all over, didn’t care why Scout was STILL sick (from the s**t everywhere) and Gracie STILL had a tick I told them about 4 days ago. Been 3 months.

This is why I've lost 'friends' and distrust people the way I do. One friend was going to flush her foster kittens down the toilet because they kept mewing; one friend put her guinea pig in a coffee container and threw him in the trash. Same friend took her indoor / outdoor cat to the 'humane society ' and had her put down cuz she had fleas. Adopted a cat cuz my coworker was having him put down. The next day she got 2 kittens. Adopted another cat who was poisoned by her owner. My brother beat his puppy and tethered him an acre away from the house cuz he peed. One of my other relatives kicked her dog so hard his skull caved in. I love animals unconditionally. People... nope.

It's so easy: Our pets are family members. Treat them like that. They don't choose to live with you, so treat them with the respect they deserve. That means don't dress them for YOUR fun, don't colour them, but feed them to their needs, give them medical care and love. Just let them be as natural as possible.

My god I just can't with people. This breaks my heart. I'm the proud momma of two rescues (a dog and a cat) A senior I got when she was a puppy and a rescue senior dog. I don't understand how people can do this to an animal that loves them unconditionally. I definitely want to beat some asses after this post.

So I pay a buttload of money to a cat sitter to come stay at my home and take care of my cats for when I'm on vacation/business trip. I make sure to FaceTime the sitter a few times a day and pray hard to find them as healthy as I left them every time and still feel guilty af because I left them for a business trip or a well deserved holiday. So long story short I feel guilty for leaving my cats at home with a sitter that's a full on cat lady which they love so much and how do these people live with themselves is beyond me.

I don't own any animals of any kind because I'm physically and financially incapable of taking good care of them. It makes me so very ANGRY when I see people mistreating their animals, especially those vile, nasty, horrendous jerks who just dump one animal in favor of another! And the woman who duct-taped her dog's mouth shut---when that came out in the news a couple years ago, it was strongly suggested that 'someone' tightly wrap her mouth, and make sure to get a lot of hair into the duct tape, let her live a few days with it on, then yank it all off, hair and all, in one fell swoop. Doubt she'd ever do it to an animal again if she experienced that.

People suck. I came out of Costco one day and the car next to mine had a large mixed breed inside. It was 85 degrees and the windows were barely cracked. The doors were locked and I couldn't get in. The dog is looking at me like "please help me.". I thought maybe the owners would be right back so I loaded up my car. Nope. So I called Animal Control. They said they were at least 30 minutes out. I waited around for like 20 more minutes and no one came out. I really wanted to break the windows out of the car at this point (but did not want to be arrested). I double-checked with animal control and they were almost there. I finally left before all my stuff melted. I still regret not breaking the windows out. The really weird thing is that so many people passed by and saw the dog and just kept walking. SMH.

We rescue Australian Shepherds, and occasionally other breeds, for over 20 years now. None of this is news to me. There are wonderful people who love and responsibly care for their pets. Trust me, they outnumber the jerks. Hold on to that.

I think it sould be mandatory to have a license to have a pet. And to get it you have to take a 6 month course, take the animal (dogs) to obedience training, and have it renewed every 2 years.

It is quite common people in UK keep dogs in houses and let them go out only on concrete backyard. My neighbour used to have two dogs. Kept them in cage while he was working for more then half day. They were barking and howling all the time. When ever we warned him, he just declined everything. It escalated during the Christmas when he left two caged dogs in empty house and left for more then two days. We called police, but they didnt care and we reported him to council. Then one day after 3/4 of year barking stopped. Then one day we heard sad howling again. He came to say, that he "got rid of the dogs" and bought a new puppy wich will not be laud. He also said that he got rid of the barking dogs in November an we are insane. He told all neighbours around street, that we hate dogs. I have never seen him taking any dog for a walk. His backyard is full of ... Where he keeps another bunnies, guineapigs and I do not know what else in cages

I have heard him to saying that he is buying them for his kids and stright awai he asked what will be the next one. He is on benefits now, so doesnt need to go out often, but when ever he goes. Dog barks and howl. It is not my only experience. Many people have dogs and treat them as piece of furniture. Do not play and go out with it and it gets frustrated. Another my colleague shared how happy she is because she got pregnant and that is mean no cleaning poos from backyard for atl least year. Those are really normal UK people :-\

I learned yesterday that the grandson of my mother's caregiver had abandoned their cat. After seeing these horrible images, I could only think of the torment and the confusion the young cat is going through and I let it be known that I would gladly accept the cat into our family. The grandmother was gleeful, giggling with joy that the cat had a home with a loving family waiting.

Some of these are stupid. Vegetable based dyes exist and are not inhumane or abusive, and some dogs get excited when they get dyed - most don't give a c**p. It isn't something I would do to my pet on a normal or regular basis and I have not done it before. I would possibly consider it as part of a Halloween costume though.

Just sharing... My neighbourhood always been a placed for person to dump their cats...and usually these cats will come to my house for shelter and food...my father is a cat lover but my mom doesn't...however she doesn't hate them... My siblings really love cats... Ok..the real problem is..we are not afford to take care of them... But in the same time they don't have any place to go... So, yeah we try our best to feed them, treat them when they sick...I remember there's once we don't eat for dinner since the rice left is just enough for the cats... Somehow..I have been thinking..our family adopt the cats by no choice..my neighbours seen us that we really love cats but they don't know...this is the only choice we have.. (my neighbour hates animal).. So.. What I want to say is..for the person who think that they can't afford/take care of their pets..please don't dump them...or please 'dump' them properly..(by putting them at the shelter).. Please use that damn brain..seriously..

If you love an animal enough that you want them as a pet, you should also love them enough to learn how to properly care for them. If you can't be bothered to learn or don't care about how to properly care for them, you should never consider getting a pet of any kind. Your happiness might be important. But they are a living being who has every bit the right to happiness you do. If you can't be bothered then just don't.

I made it through 5 and I couldn't anymore.... people are such.....terrible beings. I can't imagine not having my four babies with me and I could NEVER just leave them... it breaks my heart that people are allowed to just dispose of animals like they are nothing more than a piece of trash!!!! Unfortunately, featured "people" are the norm and I don't get it why others feel so offended for your truthful comments. I think heavier sanctions for all kinds of obvious things(not just animal treatment related) should become a thing, because apparently people are too dumb and therefore selfish and cruel to come up with what proper behaviour should look like themselves.

I don't understand how people can do this to an animal that loves them unconditionally. I definitely want to beat some asses after this post.

So I pay a buttload of money to a cat sitter to come stay at my home and take care of my cats for when I'm on vacation/business trip. I make sure to FaceTime the sitter a few times a day and pray hard to find them as healthy as I left them every time and still feel guilty af because I left them for a business trip or a well deserved holiday. So long story short I feel guilty for leaving my cats at home with a sitter that's a full on cat lady which they love so much and how do these people live with themselves is beyond me.

I don't own any animals of any kind because I'm physically and financially incapable of taking good care of them. It makes me so very ANGRY when I see people mistreating their animals, especially those vile, nasty, horrendous jerks who just dump one animal in favor of another! And the woman who duct-taped her dog's mouth shut---when that came out in the news a couple years ago, it was strongly suggested that 'someone' tightly wrap her mouth, and make sure to get a lot of hair into the duct tape, let her live a few days with it on, then yank it all off, hair and all, in one fell swoop. Doubt she'd ever do it to an animal again if she experienced that.

I wanted to see, from the mailer I get from BP and saw that DISGUSTING man using the public drinking fountain to wash his dogs a**s. I would have kicked that man so hard he wouldn't have gotten up if that was my park! Some of these other posts above were just a revolting. SOME humans are the true scourge of the earth!

People suck. I came out of Costco one day and the car next to mine had a large mixed breed inside. It was 85 degrees and the windows were barely cracked. The doors were locked and I couldn't get in. The dog is looking at me like "please help me.". I thought maybe the owners would be right back so I loaded up my car. Nope. So I called Animal Control. They said they were at least 30 minutes out. I waited around for like 20 more minutes and no one came out. I really wanted to break the windows out of the car at this point (but did not want to be arrested). I double-checked with animal control and they were almost there. I finally left before all my stuff melted. I still regret not breaking the windows out. The really weird thing is that so many people passed by and saw the dog and just kept walking. SMH.

We rescue Australian Shepherds, and occasionally other breeds, for over 20 years now. None of this is news to me. There are wonderful people who love and responsibly care for their pets. Trust me, they outnumber the jerks. Hold on to that.

I think it sould be mandatory to have a license to have a pet. And to get it you have to take a 6 month course, take the animal (dogs) to obedience training, and have it renewed every 2 years.

It is quite common people in UK keep dogs in houses and let them go out only on concrete backyard. My neighbour used to have two dogs. Kept them in cage while he was working for more then half day. They were barking and howling all the time. When ever we warned him, he just declined everything. It escalated during the Christmas when he left two caged dogs in empty house and left for more then two days. We called police, but they didnt care and we reported him to council. Then one day after 3/4 of year barking stopped. Then one day we heard sad howling again. He came to say, that he "got rid of the dogs" and bought a new puppy wich will not be laud. He also said that he got rid of the barking dogs in November an we are insane. He told all neighbours around street, that we hate dogs. I have never seen him taking any dog for a walk. His backyard is full of ... Where he keeps another bunnies, guineapigs and I do not know what else in cages

I have heard him to saying that he is buying them for his kids and stright awai he asked what will be the next one. He is on benefits now, so doesnt need to go out often, but when ever he goes. Dog barks and howl. It is not my only experience. Many people have dogs and treat them as piece of furniture. Do not play and go out with it and it gets frustrated. Another my colleague shared how happy she is because she got pregnant and that is mean no cleaning poos from backyard for atl least year. Those are really normal UK people :-\

I learned yesterday that the grandson of my mother's caregiver had abandoned their cat. After seeing these horrible images, I could only think of the torment and the confusion the young cat is going through and I let it be known that I would gladly accept the cat into our family. The grandmother was gleeful, giggling with joy that the cat had a home with a loving family waiting.

Some of these are stupid. Vegetable based dyes exist and are not inhumane or abusive, and some dogs get excited when they get dyed - most don't give a c**p. It isn't something I would do to my pet on a normal or regular basis and I have not done it before. I would possibly consider it as part of a Halloween costume though.

Just sharing... My neighbourhood always been a placed for person to dump their cats...and usually these cats will come to my house for shelter and food...my father is a cat lover but my mom doesn't...however she doesn't hate them... My siblings really love cats... Ok..the real problem is..we are not afford to take care of them... But in the same time they don't have any place to go... So, yeah we try our best to feed them, treat them when they sick...I remember there's once we don't eat for dinner since the rice left is just enough for the cats... Somehow..I have been thinking..our family adopt the cats by no choice..my neighbours seen us that we really love cats but they don't know...this is the only choice we have.. (my neighbour hates animal).. So.. What I want to say is..for the person who think that they can't afford/take care of their pets..please don't dump them...or please 'dump' them properly..(by putting them at the shelter).. Please use that damn brain..seriously..

If you love an animal enough that you want them as a pet, you should also love them enough to learn how to properly care for them. If you can't be bothered to learn or don't care about how to properly care for them, you should never consider getting a pet of any kind. Your happiness might be important. But they are a living being who has every bit the right to happiness you do. If you can't be bothered then just don't.

Why posting a list like this? We all know animal abuse and cruelty happen, this list makes me feel nothing but nauseous, angry and sad... I can't even read this, knowing that these crimes are not punished (severely) enough.

I made it through 5 and I couldn't anymore.... people are such.....terrible beings. I can't imagine not having my four babies with me and I could NEVER just leave them... it breaks my heart that people are allowed to just dispose of animals like they are nothing more than a piece of trash!!!! If you dont consider an animal a part of the family (even a working animal) you shouldn't have one...just spare its feelings and dont be a selfish k**b.

I couldn't like a single picture. One or two are not that bad, but mostly it is just disgusting. Why do you have to get a license to drive a car, but to buy another living creature no qualification is needed. Every Idiot can get one, and that is the result.

Why did you get down voted so much? Same applies for the others furthest down on the list of comments. Unfortunately, featured "people" are the norm and I don't get it why others feel so offended for your truthful comments. I think heavier sanctions for all kinds of obvious things(not just animal treatment related) should become a thing, because apparently people are too dumb and therefore selfish and cruel to come up with what proper behaviour should look like themselves.
