Society has undergone drastic changes over the past decades. Technological advancements and shifted values have led many to believe things may be taking a turn for the worse.
These changes also ignited a recent Reddit discussion, with someone asking, “What worrisome trend in society are you beginning to notice?” People got candid about the alarming evolution of artificial intelligence and overconsumption while pointing out the decay in moral values.
It’s quite a gloomy topic to open up but an eye-opener, nonetheless. Scroll through to find the readers' responses, and feel free to chime in below.

The sheer lack of empathy people have now. It's genuinely startling.
I'm so glad this is the first post. Today I had an interview in the SW US for an admin position with a worldwide disaster mitigation and recovery company. I brought up empathy in direct dealing with victims of disaster. She said that was one of the characteristics they were looking for in the candidate. Then I flip on my tv to find the LA fires. I hope I get the job and can make a difference. Edit: I was home when I saw the coverage of the LA fires.
I don't know that this is necessarily true. I can remember some pretty awful things that happened 40 years ago, like elderly people falling on the street and nobody helping them. I strongly suspect people have been saying this since about hour 2 in human civilization. Like people saying "kids these days". There are actual records of people writing "kids these days" c**p 2,000 years ago. I actually think kids are kinder and much more open to differences than they used to be. I had a classmate in elementary school in the early 70's who was very overweight and had a speech impedement. Kids would say she had fleas. If you wrote FBI(fleabag insurance)on your hand and then she touched you, you wouldn't get fleas. We made her life a living hell. She was 8 ffs. Don't tell me about a lack of empathy "these days".
I'm at teacher and I find kind (at the elementary level) today super empathetic. Even the ones who are being taught hatred at home seem to know it's not right and be conflicted by it. They are generally such kind little people. About adults, on the other hand, I agree with the OP. I'm not sure exactly when it starts to get turned off but am grateful for the wonderful little people who brighten my days!
Load More Replies...It's so bad that when someone is around who does have empathy and care for others, they're chastised for it. I got shouted at by more than a few people on a very hot day on the bus, no air conditioning, stuck in rush hour traffic. I saw a guy slumped over, so I wanted to check if they were okay in case they had heat stroke or something. People took issue that I was "interrupting him from his nap". The guy looked up and nodded he was okay. At least he wasn't mad with me. But, by golly, other people were pissed off I cared. Thing is, I was concerned because the week before, during the same heat wave, I was, again, stuck in traffic, in the far lane from the curb so I couldn't be let off, and I was getting terribly sick, dehydrated, high heart rate and getting dizzy and on the verge of passing out. Not even the bus driver or anyone was concerned. That's why I check on people.
I think that most people are emphatic, but there's so much going on in the world that's wrong but that we can't really do anything about, that it more or less paralyses us because we're powerless. On a smaller scale though, when it comes to a family member or a neighbour or someone otherwise close to us, I think most of us are more than prepared to help and support.
Anti-intellectualism, part of the distrust of 'experts' and 'elites'.
And anti-science. Anyone who is against science, doesn’t understand what it is.
I think a lot of that has to do with religion's brainwashing.
Load More Replies...Well, when the right wing thinks higher education makes someone “woke”, this will only get worse. And what the hell is wrong with being woke anyway?
Being awake and aware is now considered a bad thing, go figure eh?
Load More Replies...These people consistently vote in the interest of rich white males. Yet they say they hate ":elites".
They define elite as people smarter and better educated than them, not richer.
Load More Replies...As far as I'm concerned, you should always keep an open mind about things because people, by design, have personal biases/agendas that they may not even be aware of. Don't be so quick to just automatically believe what someone, even an "expert," tells you.
The post isn't saying that experts are infallible. It's saying that you shouldn't ignore them.
Load More Replies...I'll probably get down voted for this, but the fact that most of the comments here amount to "Yes, this is why all conservatives are idiots" is exactly the sort of thing that fuels both anti-intellectualism and a perception of liberals as elitists
I don't blame people for this. The information out there is always changing and so many sources are deceptive.
Parents aren't parenting anymore -kids need rules, consistency, and structure!
We spent a ton of our time with our daughter. But guess what, peer pressure, phone use, social media, and the internet has a greater role in shaping their brains. Sadly.
According to science kids are more influenced by peers that parents
Load More Replies...This is one is huge! My husband and I make a real effort everyday to parent our kids. They are teenagers now and we are doing our best to teach them everything we know so that when they get out in the world they are an asset rather than a liability which is what most of these kids today seem to be.
I will never tell a parent they're being too hard on their kids for shouting and reprimanding them for misbehaving and putting themselves in danger. It's reactive and kids need to hear those sharp tones because they need to learn that love isn't just shown with soft voices, smiles and hugs. They need to know how their actions and behaviour makes others feel, and how that looks is more unpleasant, which is why kids cry. They cry when they get in trouble because they know they let down their parents and now no one is having fun.
You don't need a sharp tone to get your point across all it does is instill fear and stunt emotional dialogue
Load More Replies...I had a lot of unsupervised free time as a kid. Granted, my parents grounded us well in manners, but the unsafe stuff I got into makes me wonder how I even survived. Some of my peers did not make it out of their 20s. I was born in the 1950s. Helicopter parenting was an unknown term, and it was hard to keep tabs before kids carried phones. Payphones were rare in rural areas. I wish today's kids weren't so tethered - and then I think of all the dangers they face that we never imagined. My heart goes out to young people. How could we have let the world get this way?
Too many parents try to be their kid's best friends instead of figures of authority.
You can be both parenting has many many benefits when your kids can talk to you like they can see you as a friend and not some judgmental person that is going to lay down the law
Load More Replies...Let's put it this way. The vast majority of kids are being parented, with rules, consistency, and structure. Kids will have some rough edges that will be smoothed by time and experience. I don't think we need to tar and feather anybody...yet.
I can't agree with this one enough. Too many parents run interference for their children and don't give them the opportunity to learn how to handle difficult situations. The "everyone is a winner" concept is fine for very young kids, but older kids don't learn how to deal with losing. Adulting isn't always easy, and too many children are not being prepared for it.
Sadly, so many parents are so overwhelmed managing two busy careers and a household that they just tap out. Super sad for the kids. An iPad isn't a parent. The word no isn't mean.
Yep they depend on the internet and YouTube to raise their children nowadays.
People can't spell. Most often noticed in online postings, but even novels and professional articles are frequently riddled with typos or other mistakes.
If people used spellcheck and at least proof read what they typed, it is easy to catch mistakes.
Much of the problem is actually caused by the use of spellcheckers. The computer doesn't care if it should have been lose or loose. its or it's, who's or whose. There's a reason we've long refereed to them as spill-chuckers.
Load More Replies...Seriously. You could tell when the proof readers were let go at the newspapers in preference for spell/grammar check because the amount of typo's and incomplete sentences sky rocketed.
Load More Replies...I’m an editor. If people actually cared about stuff like this, I’d have so much work!
I care. I find it destroys the article I'm reading because I'm trying to figure out what's being said. Newspapers are terrible for keeping the flow of the article going. You guys are, or should be, English majors. Your teachers and professors would be so embarrassed. Yes, spell check and Grammarly work, but you still have to accept the change it wants to make.
Load More Replies...Reading more physical print material matters! Books, magazines, graphic novels (comic books), whatever interests you. You are imprinting your mind with the correct spelling and reinforcing your vocabulary! Then, when you spell something incorrectly, you (I) say to yourself (myself) "huh, I don't think that looks right." and double check it.
Thanks. I'm bleeding from my eyes a little bit now.
Load More Replies...Also, people cannot punctuate their sentences properly. They cannot even string ten words together into a coherent sentence . . . but they can string seventy-five words together into a run-on mass of gibberish.
Re : below comment ..... proof reading is the answer. Good, basic education should give people a broad vocabulary and spelling skills.
The absence of critical thinking in any sphere of influence.
This… I don’t understand why this isn’t taught in schools. Especially in this age of social media people need to be able to learn what’s real and not take information at face value.
Because most governments don't want you to use critical thinking.
Load More Replies...The speed at which social media platforms function is part of the problem. Someone sees a post from some influencer they follow and they feel like they have to respond (typically in agreement) immediately so they're in on the new thing from the beginning. If you take even five minutes to try to verify the post, you're already behind, your comment is at the bottom of the thread and you're socially irrelevant. It's impossible to be both thoughtful and "seen." Most people seem to be choosing the latter.
My kids were fortunate to get into a high school that emphasized the Socratic Method. They hated the hard work but realized it gave them a serious advantage in college.
Instead of helping someone in need, whip out that phone camera and record it.
And just recording everything… The amount of concerts I’ve mostly watched through other peoples cameras 🙄
It's not a good deed any more unless you record it and post it on-line for people to see what a good person you are.
I'm an ER nurse and the # of times I've had to tell people that no, they do NOT have the right to film me doing my job and put it on TIkTok is disturbing.
Like they did on the Philadelphia subway when woman was being raped.
People don't believe in facts when they don't fit their opinion. They also don't make any effort to look something up if they don't know it, instead, they make up their own "facts".
That’s how we (U.S.) got the dementia-riddled rapist criminal as president again.
Yes it is. I am still saddened and angry that people still voted for his loser a*s after everything that has happened. I have no hope for the future of this country now and want to leave.
Load More Replies...The notion that facts can have "sides" is baffling to me. They share these comics where one person looks at a number 6 and another at that same number from the other side and thinks it's a 9. Well no s**t. But that is not how facts work.
The two political parties each have their own media that makes up facts. They have different morals. Conservatives are obsessed with sexual issues and they are perfectly OK with income inequality and excessive greed.
Well, you can’t make up what Trump been found guilty or liable of… And did you hear about the batshít things he said today during yet another meandering and odd (at best, terrifying at worst) speech? No media spin. He is insane.
Load More Replies.....or rely on one source of info for their facts. Once contacted NPR and PBS on the opinion slant of some coverage, told them if I wanted to be told HOW to think I would watch/listen to CNN or Fox. While these (NPR/PBS) are only one source, they at least have the ability to present both sides of an issue to let you decide what's right.
Wages are not keeping up with prices.
The worst is, if wages go up finally by say $20 a week, every govt dept from water, to rates and every utility raises their price by 20 to $30 EACH, they ALL want 100% of that increase each plus then some and the prices of food and goods all go up as well. Its effing ridiculous.
Nope the worst part is that products don't cost that much but corporations rise their prices to make more profits.
Load More Replies...Strangely, the wages of upper management seem to be keeping up the pace.
I'm a teacher and we've gotten 2% over the past 6 years. Not 2% per year, 2% total. 0, then 0.5, then 0 , then 1, then 0, then 0.5. We are in serious talks to strike and the government is painting us as the greediest money grabbers ever. We are asking for less than inflation and are SO greedy.
I'm a teacher too and we're getting pay cuts hidden as raises. We're told the board agreed to 3% increase but they also are increasing our health insurance costs by 8%. So in reality, I'm getting 5% more taken out of every paycheck. My actual take home pay has been getting smaller and smaller over the last few years in spite of step increases and raises. It's no wonder teachers can't afford anything!
Load More Replies...Or less if you work for a company with investors because of all the hours they want to save on production costs.
Load More Replies...Otherwise why would prices go up? Its a scam to make people work more for less, so someone can get richer on the top.
Show me you don't understand how inflation and economics work, without expressly telling me you don't understand how inflation and economics work.
Load More Replies...When people complain about minimum wage increases because they think that means prices will go up I have to shake my damn head. At least in the case of PG & E in California, bonuses for various higher ups were tied to keeping costs down but maintaining pipes and lines in a safe manner. To keep costs down, a lot of managers didn't do preventative maintenance but said they did so they could get their bonuses. That came out with one of the explosions.

Overconsumption.
Americans account for 4% of the human population, but 15% of emissions, despite the fact that 92% of the country has access to clean water at the tap, account for 10% of plastic water bottle usage (60 billion) the EU has similar access to clean water with double the population and consumes 47 billion. 29% of U.S emissions are from transportation (cars, trucks, vans) which is 4.5% of global emission total.....global share of emissions from cars, trucks and vans? 10%. The U.S accounts for 21% of global beef consumption, 30 billion pounds worth. China accounts for 28% of global emissions....but they also have 4.2x the population of the U.S, meaning per capita they're producing LESS THAN half the emissions of the U.S. Australia, a country with a population of 26.4 million people, accounts for 4.5% of global emissions, 1/53rd the population of China, but only 1/6th the pollution, nearly triple the per capita output.
"The United States accounts for approximately 26% of the global economy in nominal terms." "The United States accounts for between 15.87% and 17.5% of global manufacturing, depending on the source" "The United States gives more foreign aid than any other country in the world, totaling over $640 billion from 2012 to 2022. However, foreign aid is typically less than 1% of the federal budget" "More than 44 million Americans are served by inadequate water systems that recently had Safe Drinking Water Act violations: "According to several reports, China is suspected of inflating its population figures, meaning they report a higher population than is actually accurate, primarily due to local governments having incentives to inflate numbers for increased funding from the central government; this practice could mean China's population is significantly lower than officially stated." Load More Replies...This is disturbing, the country is regressing. And I just learn that New Jersey is allowing people to become teachers without having to pass any sort of certification. I know there is a teacher shortage, but setting the ignorant to teach those who need teaching is not going to help in the long run. And before anyone gets on my case, there probably are people who can be good teachers without certification, but those are few and far apart.
There is a teacher shortage because they are woefully underpaid and not given any respect or support. Rather than fix those problems, governments make things worse with a race for the bottom. I propose that any legislator who needs surgery must be operated on by someone without a medical degree.

Load More Replies...I've noticed over the last 20 years people have this negative stigma towards giving kids books. So bad, Mcdonalds started giving away small books with Happy Meal purchases. Have I ever seen a parent actually read to their kids? No. Have I seen parents getting their kids to read something out loud? Not in a very long time. But I know I should focus on my own, and I have. She loves to read, and write her own stories. Other parents laughed because I started reading to her in infancy. Now their kids are struggling to read.
This would be very country-specific. In my country, young people are generally more literate than old people. Back when I was at school (40 years ago) there weren't any programs to help kids who had fallen behind in their reading and writing, but now there are many.
US literacy rate is lower than it was in 1875. The rest of the world, however, has higher literacy rates than ever before.
There should not be a single person in this country who can't read.
How much the rich people treat us like expendable puppets. Getting us fighting each other over the dumbest s**t, keeping us distracted, bribeing our governments, and of course invading our lives at every angle they can get.
That, too, is not a "trend", but a consistent habit. It takes revolutions, strikes, workers' movements and all kinds of upheavals from the bottom to topple the high and mighty and force concessions towards the good of the poor. To be fair: nearly everybody's first concern is their own wellbeing, and that of those closest to them, be it family, friends or social circle. Only when the (few) rich do it it has more of an impact on the rest of the world, and their "struggle" to keep the status quo or better themselves happens at the cost and to the detriment of the majority.
In the US, it's a "trend" to the extent that since the Raygun administration all of the economic reforms that started being enacted in the 1920s have been explicitly or de facto reversed, and economic inequality is greater now than it was in the Gilded Age. And now that stupid people have allowed overt fascists to seize control of all three branches of government, that's unlikely to change any time soon.

We're all entitled to our opinions. We should also remind ourselves that we do not need to accept other's opinions by default. We can consider their perspective, look at factors where they're coming from, ask questions if we're unsure what they mean. People are too quick to react with defensiveness and a hunger to be validated as right.
To be fair, even experts are not always of the same opinion and you get people who studied for years, even decades, declaring that sugar pellets with weird "exponential" numbers cure cancer, allergies or migraines.
No, but legitimate experts are all using the same valid methods of study. Those studies may not be conclusive yet, accounting for the different opinions, but there is nothing fair in faulting a research just because it is still ongoing.

No business takes responsibility anymore. You just always get the run around. If you have a problem, there is, in many cases, nobody who will fix it.
This month, I had $700 overcharged on my phone bill. I called customer service, and after waiting an hour on hold, they said I needed to go to the store. I went to the store, and they said I needed to call customer service. I convinced them I had and they told me someone would have to do it another day. Ended up having to go back a few times to get it fixed.
Or a couple years ago, I ordered groceries from the website of the grocery store. Something got messed up and I called the store. They said I needed to call some other company who actually does the shopping and have them fix it. The other company wouldn't even take my call! Just a robot that wouldn't help.
It used to be that if you had a problem with a business, you could just settle it with the business. See a person and they'd work it out. If you didn't feel like going in, a customer service agent on the phone would fix it. It wasnt even that long ago. Hell, I remember in 2015 or 16 having an issue with Amazon and getting offered a free month of prime. No chance that would happen today.

Once a package leaves our country, tracking either isn't updated at all, or isn't updated until it's delivered. The public tracking systems just don't get updated. Pre-pandemic, it used to be as simple as calling the post office in the destination country, giving them the tracking number and saying "where is this" During the pandemic, every post office seems to have just defaulted to letting the "automated system" handle phone calls...and the automated system is calling tracking info from the same place as the online sites. Which causes us to have to tell customers, "sorry, but everything sucks! The only way to find out where your package is, is by you going to your local post office, and speaking to a human being!" It' has been like this for 5 years.

This immediately reminded me if a video I saw today where a lady was confronting a tech store staffer. She was telling him he completely reset and erased everything off her phone. The worker sounded drunk when he was speaking to her, saying he didn't remember what he did with her fun, slurring his words then told her that what was done was done. Basically telling her she should just accept the mistake and fix it herself. I, too, have come across these situations where I've had to waste my time and efforts to fix an employee's mistake with little as so much as "Oh well. Move along, please. NEXT."
I would say that this is very, frustratingly, true for many big businesses. Many small businesses are much better. Gotta love all the monopolies in our society... "too big to fail!"
People b***h about it constantly. Both the impersonal and frustratingly unhelpful customer service of big business as well as wage stagnation and the increasing wealth gap. That's been growing, but it's not new. "It really wasn't that long ago that things were much better." I think that's a delusion/nostalgia talking. We DID have problems then, too, they were just different problems. Like "ordering from a grocery store": that wasn't possible 10 or 20 years ago (Germany) , and rural as I live it's still not possible for me. The more sophisticated, aka complicated, our lives become, the more small issues will pop up - but ideally the very simple, if grave, problems (like starvation, exposure, parasites,...) become rare. Many homeless people would likely LOVE to exchange their problems for a non-health threatening if annoying expensive phone bill.

Social media making people feel like their lives are "less than.".
People letting "social" media tell them what their lives are supposed to look like. E.g. the absence of critical thinking.
I see this fairly frequently with "van life". People see the bloggers post pics of sipping coffee while the sun sets over the beach, or visiting various parks and monuments and think "that looks cool! I think I'll do it too". They last a week or two, and then quit, exclaiming "that sucked", and listing all the shortcomings and compromises that come with trying to live inside a 300 cubic foot box. Without a toilet. All stuff that 2 minutes of thought would have made obvious beforehand, and allowed them to have at least a clue what they were getting themselves into.

Yes. One of the aspects of First-Aid training (of which I have done a lot over the years) is to take control of a situation and _tell_ people to call an ambulance, fetch help, stop the traffic, whatever is needed. Often people are afraid of stepping in, but having someone order them about makes them feel enabled to do so.

I think the internet is driving us insane as a species and we are starting to make really bad decisions from the bottom to the top because of it. we are all heavily addicted to our devices and science has clearly shown this has SEVERE adverse effects to our overall mental health.
Easy... just ignore the science. Works for everything else such as climate change, vaccinations, shape of the earth, etc. Of course, I'm being facetious here; the internet is a very powerful tool for information sharing, and has supported me in my job many times, but like everything, you need to understand how to use it, fact check and the like, rather than just believe everything wholesale.
We've allowed ourselves to be shoehorned into a world that simply cannot function without the Internet. What was once considered awe inspiring technology is a PITA now it governs our entire lives.
Here’s a concerning trend I’ve noticed:
the growing disconnect between people and genuine human connections. Young adults are experiencing increased loneliness, while everything, including relationships, has become disposable and monetized.
The rise of social media addiction across all age groups has led to a decline in real-world social skills and in-person interactions. When emergencies happen, people now instinctively reach for their phones to record rather than help.
What’s particularly troubling is the decline in empathy.
People are quick to mock others’ misfortunes rather than show compassion, often using phrases like “f**k around and find out” instead of offering support. This lack of emotional intelligence makes many societal issues exponentially worse.
The subscription-based model taking over everything from software to car features, combined with rising wealth inequality, means fewer people can truly own things anymore - from homes to digital media. We’re becoming perpetual renters in an increasingly disposable world.
I don't mind renting stuff thet's expensive (flats, a truck for moving,...) - as long as the "landlords" are regulated, meaning no "because I feel like it" rent raises, and ownership comes with responsibilities, like maintenance. I do NOT wish to "rent" apps and subscribe at a monthly cost, and STILL be bombarded with ads, get my data leaked to all and sundry (aka choke on "cookies"), and accept decreasing service to boot (like "no more interaction notifications for YOU, but, hey, care to hear about celeb drama?!")
The Dunning Kruger effect has never been so observable on a global basis. So many people think that their 20 minute Google research makes them more knowledgeable on a subject than those who have dedicated their adult life to it.
Isolation and loneliness - meaningful relationships are key to happiness and human wellbeing.
EDIT: My comment was inspired by the book The Good Life by Robert Waldinger and Marc Schulz. I’d recommend reading it if you’d like to learn more about the importance of relationships and their impact on wellbeing.
Relationships are hard to sustain for more than a few years. I think people are brainwashed by TV and the media into creating unrealistic standards for a partner. No one has any tolerance for human shortcomings. They all want the perfect mate. Women are expected to look like models. Men are expected to have high paying jobs.
I don’t know if that’s the case, but then again I’m 44.

Social media plays a huge part, I think everyone’s so quick to jump on trends, cancel someone, or just share their hot takes without really thinking things through.
It’s worrying because we’re all connected more than ever, but at the same time, it feels like we’re drifting further apart. Like, can we just chill, listen to each other, and not immediately try to “win” every discussion? 😅.

I am not sure why keyboardtek is being downvoated. They have a point there, if they mean unconstructiv and harsh critique, which has the aim to hurt not to show a weak spot. Such people are just a pain in the butt and as a professional, they have to somewhat put up with it. Lack of compassion for disabled people.
I would argue that the lack of compassion you see, comes from the ever present experience of running into people who have self-diagnosed themselves with all manner of disabilities, from relatively minor things like learning disabilities, to full fledged crippling disabilities, and then getting angry at anyone who dares question the self diagnosis. Essentially creating a situation where it's hard to show compassion, when it's so common that what a person is claiming to have through a disability, is at best just a cry for attention; and at worst, a scam to garner money through donations, or even government programs. A short google search of "Caught faking disability" turns up countless accounts of people who were exposed for doing just that. One even scammed some 1 million dollars before they were caught.
But there is also a lack of compassion for those who are obviously genuinely disabled.

Disinformation and pseudo science are a dangerous pest, eroding the foundations of progress by keeping people ill informed and ill equipped to investigate and learn - but "inspiration" is not the major benefit to get from scientific achievement. Inspiration is a spark that flares for any inquisitive mind - education is what gives it a direction. And even fabricated stories can inspire people. That's how fairy tales, religion, novels, metaphors and basically all of human storytelling and observation work.

I don't understand how years ago, in the mid-2000's we all agreed that models and extremely thin people (bulimia/anorexia) were a problem and how there should be a change but currently we accept obesity and even some praise it but do not realize that anorexia/bulimia and obesity are two sides of the same coin: eating problems.
You shouldn't hate yourself based on your body type, no matter how you're built. But every one of us should take action to optimize our health, and the idea of a good quality life should be the motivation, rather than just looking a certain way.
They weren't suggesting self-hate, nor that we all need to conform to any specific expectation, but for those far outside the healthy weight range to go on about "body positivity" is just wrong. People not living life for the enjoyment of it, more for social media.
I was in Portugal last week. Went past the beach and it was around 17 Celsius and sunny. Not hot, not cold. There was a young girl in Bikini doing her thing recording videos and taking pics while her miserable looking, fully dressed boyfriend sat on a towel. Afterwards she put her phone away, threw on several layers of clothing and f****d off. Obviously she was just there to brag about how hot it is and how great the beach is for her social media even though it wasn't really true.
We shrug off the real problems we are not meant to notice because they are too difficult to solve, and or some of us profit off some of them so we don't want it stopped.
US folks, think about if building the interstate highway system were proposed today. Would it happen?
FOMO. This covers a lot of scenarios.
* too much social media and you compare your life to people literally only posting their best pictures (or rich strangers literally paid by companies to go on expensive vacations).
* feeling like your ordinary loving relationship "isn't enough" and you might regret missing out on dating other people.
* hating your own body/face because all you see is celebrities with photos done via professional lighting with a whole team whose *only job* is to make them look good (including heavy photoshop editing after).
* It can even be something as stupid as enjoying DIY projects but getting so discouraged by the immaculate houses you see on google images that you give up trying.
I think people lack a lot of perspective to realize how artificial and curated the internet is. I think the more you remove yourself from it the less you'll feel worthless... because honestly you're comparing yourself to something unachievable! And even if you *were* a millionaire with a whole team dedicated to making your life as easy as possible guess what, marriages can still suck, friends can still suck, you'll still get bored lonely and sad sometimes--no one posts about that online so you don't see it.
