We as humans have spent countless hours working hard to answer as many of life’s questions as we can. We know how far away the Sun is, why the sky appears blue, and we’ve created vaccines to prevent many deadly diseases. But no matter how hard we try, we’ll never have all the answers.
Reddit users have recently been sharing chilling stories of the most unsettling things they’ve ever witnessed that they just could not explain, so we've gathered their creepiest tales down below. Shortly after my mother passed away I was going through and organizing her belongings in her room. I was talking out loud as if I were talking to her. There were some boxes with family photo albums I’d been looking for that I hadn’t been able to find and it was really worrying me. I was sitting on the floor and said aloud “where did you leave those albums, mom?” Very slowly, her closet door opened on its own. A slow, creaking movement from nearly totally closed to halfway open. I was as terrified as I’d ever been in my life… I froze and didn’t move, but I looked at exactly eye level and there was a cardboard box labeled “Albums” in my mothers handwriting on the lower shelf of the closet. I am not a religious or even spiritual person, and I thought that there might be some imbalance in the hanging of the closet door. I went back to the door many times and tested it by wiggling it back and forth and leaving it in different positions but it’s never moved that way since.
I had something like this happen. I was staying with my grandma after my grandpa died. I was extremely close to my grandparents, especially my grandpa, who was a contractor and fixer and builder, and all of his tools and equipment where just as he left it. I had just gotten a new rosin for my bow. I play the cello, and my grandpa absolutely loved to hear me play. I needed to sandpaper the rosin for it to be the best use. I looked everywhere for sandpaper. In his old shop, on his garage workbench, his truck, all over. I remember saying out loud, "where is the damn sandpaper grandpa?" ... I went back out to the garage, and there, laying in plain site in the center of his workbench, was sandpaper, in 3 different grits. I know it was not there before. I tore that workbench up looking for it. I am somebody who does not believe in pretty much anything supernatural. But that night, I believed that my grandpa wanted to hear me play the cello. And I did, and I played his favorites.
After my brother died there were toys of his left in his room, things like a pirate skull and a pig that were battery operated and made noise. Every so often one of them would make some noise when no one was there. I figured it was random electrical waves or something being picked up. Mum swore it was my brother letting us know he was still around.
I'm so sorry you lost your brother ❤ What a beautiful connection after he passed though.
Load More Replies...Late one night my dad got hungry and started boiling something to eat, but actually forgot about it and back upstairs, he said he kept hearing noises and woke up to see a woman figure with old school women’s nursing uniform ( white dress) he got up and followed then fully woke up when he smelled something burning, it was the pot. Some months later he was told a nice nurse used to live there that passed on
She was looking out for you and didn't want her house to burn down.
Load More Replies...We were cleaning up my dad's house in 2021 after he passed. When we went to his workshop in the basement to start working the lights shut off. I said out loud "all right dad that wasn't funny" the lights came back on. The three of us left for the day, of course saying goodbye to dad.
After I lost my mom, my best friend and I talked about all the signs that she was still with me - messages laying out in the open that weren't there a moment earlier, etc. - similar to these beautiful stories in the comments. Six months after losing mom, this friend became terminally ill with a very fast moving cancer. He and I discussed that since we didn't know what the other side held, that he would leave me a sign to show me he is still around after he passes if he could. We agreed on the sign and made sure it was something "stupid" as we called it, so it would be unmistakably not coincidence. I was with him until he passed and that sign? He showed it the next day. I have absolutely no doubts our loved ones have some way to connect with us, after my own experiences. I only wish everyone could feel that comfort and undeniable assurance that love continues on! ❤
Right after my dad passed away, we were looking for some papers and I just blurted out, OK dad, where are they? We heard some thing fall in his bedroom and when we went to see what had fell there was the papers we were looking for. My brother had already looked through everything on the dresser where the papers were found. My brother asked how I did that. I told him that daddy did it.
I was in my 6th grade and going through the stored stuff (looking for old books, letters, scrapbooks...)in the dilapidated part of my ancestral home .
I swear I could see my great great grandfather's brother (whom I had seen only in old photos and had died very young) from outside the window yelling at me to get out. I got scared, ran out and the whole roof came crashing down
"Get Out" would be a great title for a horror movie. Wait...
Load More Replies...OP’s many times great uncle is apparently looking out for them. He saved OP from being injured or killed by the roof cave in. Not eerie, not spooky. Kinda comforting, tbh. Like having a guardian angel.
He lived There as a ghost, saw the problem, run out, then realised you were still inside
To learn more about how this conversation started in the first place, we reached out to the Reddit user who posed the question, "People who have seen something they could never explain, what was the thing?" Lucky for us, he was kind enough to have a chat with Bored Panda.
The OP, Jacob, shared that he's a big fan of some of the paranormal subreddits but found them to be "very pro or con; in singular direction of the subforum." So he thought, "Hey, why not ask it as a general question and see what people say?"
Not me, but my dad. When I was younger, my biological mom and her husband kidnapped me and took off to another state. My dad said that he was finally starting to accept that he may never see me again after nearly a year of searching, and then one day when he was on a walk, this little girl came up to him and asked "Are you looking for a little girl?" He looked at her, confused, and she just turned around and pointed up the block at a group of kids playing, and said, "She's right there!" He walked closer, passed the girl, to try to get a better look and saw me in the group. He turned around to figure out what the little girl's deal was, and she was just gone, without a trace. Turns out my bio mom and her husband had come back to visit family for whatever reason. I used to call bs because the story is just so insane, but throughout the years, it's the one story of my dad's that never changed. Not one detail. He's told it so many times that I can recite it word for word, and he's always so f*****g awestruck when he tells it; like I can almost *see* him racking his brain, searching for the most logical explanation. I was ~2-3 when it happened, and I'm now 26. He still can't piece it all together to this day
Perhaps a lost little girl who wanted others to have what she couldn't.
Load More Replies...The fact that his story didn’t change practically screams truth
The little girl prbably past away and wanted to help people and be good
Maybe she was the ghost of the child they were trying to replace with you?
Was talking on the phone to my dad in the garden, about 15 years ago. Saw an orange light slowly come up over some trees behind my house then take off straight up at a ridiculous speed. Stood there in silence and so did he.
Explained to him what I’d just seen and he said he’d just seen the exact same thing. He was over 100 miles away in Manchester at the time.
This exact thing happened to me. I was standing in my backyard and was admiring my mowing prowess. I had 4 1/2 acres back then with a good amount of the property wooded with trails and such. It was late evening and then a large deep orange glowing circular disk?...ball?..IDK. Went straight up slowly and then shot up faster than I can describe. Gone
I was in the Canadian navy and my trade was above water warfare, I was an air cadet before that and I love plane spotting and satellite spotting with my wife and kids. One night about five years ago my wife and I witnessed several lights in the sky I could not explain. They were moving North to south and were chasing each other. As in like one would move towards the other and the other would get out of the way then chase the other one and they kept doing that to each other as they went. Then three orange lights flew over top in a v formation. I had my binoculars at the time and could not see any nav lights, strobes or any other indicator lights. Just orange discs. I am still trying to figure out what they were.
Saint Elmo’s Fire or Santilmo. Common lore in the Philippines. I think I saw one too back in the early 90’s in the middle of a field but brushed it off as brush burned by a farmer preparing his field for planting. Weird through is that there’s no smoke coming from it and no burning smell.
We were also curious if Jacob had ever seen anything he could not explain with his own eyes. As it turns out, that's actually one of the reasons he started this conversation. "I've seen lots of unexplainable things and have gone to Reddit in the past to see if others have experienced something similar or had the answers!" he shared with Bored Panda.
"One particular unexplainable [experience] for me was what I would consider multiple shared encounters in a 'haunted' house," the OP says. "Loud footsteps, things moving, hearing breathing when no one's around. Me and my roommates in university went through the list of how to explain it. We were able to put an X beside all the known possibilities, and it left us all questioning our sanity a little bit."
I think I was 14 at the time, living in a nice part of a very busy city. I woke up, had breakfast and waited for my parents to come downstairs. They didn’t come. I looked for them but couldn’t find them, couldn’t find my sisters either. I went outside an there was no one. Literally zero people in an incredibly busy area on a weekend. I panicked fully. I looked everywhere for people but they just weren’t there?? I fully freaked out thinking everyone disappeared. I even checked if there was something on tv about. There was live tv with people so i calmed a bit, other people still existed. I think it was around afternoon when I stopped looking around and walked home. When I got home my parents and sister were luckily there. They insisted they were in and around the house all day and I even saw them at breakfast, I broke down crying because it was simply not true. To this day I swear people disappeared for half a day. After my break down we went for icecream and my city was busy again, hundreds of people doing their thing. I have no clue what the f**k happened but I feel gaslighted by life.
OP should probably go get checked out for something that could cause psychosis or even epilepsy
This. Hormones raging in your body from puberty does weird stuff to your mind. When I was 14 I was going through a hard time (nothing too serious) and I couldn’t sleep. I was awake for so long I started to hallucinate and basically my brain was dying from not sleeping but when I tried to sleep, couldn’t do it. Had to get drugs at the hospital to sleep. It was awful. But then never happened again.
Load More Replies...I Wonder what her parents did to just see her look at them, panick And run outside like she didnt saw them. I wanna know their side of story, why They didnt went to fetch her or interract with her
I'd check for carbon monoxide leak. Whenever a possible hallucination starts just before or just after sleep, it could be CO poisoning.
I swear the same thing happened to me when I was around 22. I was waiting for the bus to go to class and did not see a single person, dog, pigeon, squirrel, etc. in a major city. It was so eerily quiet. I creeped myself out enough that I cut class, went back home and played music to calm myself. I had it on shuffle and the Walking Dead theme song came on so I got more spooked to the point that it made me laugh at how ridiculous I was being. Stress makes you think crazy things sometimes.
I was visiting home, and my mom, my dad, and I decided to go to my maternal grandfather's grave to pay our respects. We have a tradition where for the first 10 years after a person's death, a cross has to stay over their grave, otherwise the person might have a hard time crossing to whatever place comes after you die. He's been dead for 7 years, so my dad checked that the cross was sturdy and didn't need to be propped up or anything. We all checked it. It was definitely not going anywhere. About a week later, we had a wind storm, and after that, I started waking up in the middle of the night because I felt like someone was shaking me awake. This kept up for almost 2 weeks before I had a dream that my grandfather was sitting on the edge of my bed and he asked me to go to his grave and fix the cross because it had fallen. I told my parents about this and we all had a laugh about it. The dreams kept up though, at a disconcerting frequency because I was starting to be exhausted all the time from a lack of sleep. My dad and I, on a whim, went back to my grandfather's grave. Lo and behold, the cross had been knocked down. Gatekeeper said it probably got knocked down in the storm. We picked it up and I stopped seeing my grandfather in my dreams.
Exactly ChexmyLicks. One night my dad was awaken by my aunt sitting at the foot of his and my mom's bed, she kept telling him to wake Evy(my mom) . Something had happened to Marthy (my grandmother) and to go open the front door, so dad wakes up my mom and tells her that my aunt said to go to the front t door. The police were walking up the steps just as my mom opened the door and told her my grandmother was at the hospital she had been attacked.
Load More Replies...Ok this happened to me: there is an old cemetery in some back woods we call yellow fever. Hardly anyone knows about it but it is about 30 feet by 30 feet with wrought iron fence around it and concrete over the graves. The graves date between like 1790 and 1899ish. My mom and her sister used to go there in the 70s and have seances (typical Catholic kid stuff) and so did I in the 90s. Around 2002 I had not been there in a few years and I dreamed that I needed to put shoes on a dead little boy that was buried in a dress (think jfk son at his funeral, the blue pea coat or dress) anyway it bothered me so bad that I went to the graveyard that day. And exactly where I had dug the boy up in my dream there was disturbed earth. Like someone had recently been digging. And at the entrance where the gate used to be, there was a wrought iron pole with some sort of animal skull on top. Freaked me out. There are pictures online if this cemetery. I believe it is called Garth (Dancy) cemetery in Decatur
Alabama in Morgan county. It's is a rock wall with wrought iron on top and needs cleaned out.

Its superstitious stuff like this that causes people unnecessary nightmares. Such nonsense.
Eh. Perhaps read 'The First Ghosts' by legendary Irving Finkel... the man who deciphered ancient cuneiform. Belief goes back to remote time, he says, before religion, before wooo woooo fluffy apparitions. Such beliefs were shared in virtually every ancient culture. Not until religion came around did the "superstitious" ridiculing labels appear. Burials date back before Neanderthals, then deliberate burials with bits date back > 50,000 years BC. He concludes these imply : 1. Something survives of a human after death. 2. That something escapes the grasp of the corpse and goes elsewhere. 3. If that something can go somewhere, it can quite reasonably be expected to be capable of coming back.
Load More Replies...As far as what Jacob thought about the responses his post received, he shared that he was "blown away by the sheer amount" of replies. "There's so many interesting ones," he told us. "What I really enjoyed, overall, was the scope and how the Reddit community does what they do! Many potential answers were shared to explain the unexplainable. And in some cases, [people that have witnessed] things that are just so strange they are isolating could find others to relate to!"
My ex-boyfriend is a diagnosed schizophrenic and he often told me about the things/people he saw and heard. One summer, on several late nights, he kept seeing a big, dark “creature” in the middle of the road on the way to drop me off home. He’d stop the car in a panic and wake me up (I’d always fall asleep on the way home) and tried to get me to see this creature. I never saw anything so I told him it was probably his schizophrenia. Well, on one night I stayed awake on the drive home and I saw the damn creature in the road. It had the body of a huge bear, long horse-like legs, it didn’t seem to have a neck, it was blacker than night, and had a glowing white Cheshire grin. I said, “what the f**k is that?” And my boyfriend said “see, I’ve been trying to tell you.” We watched it cross the road and disappear in thin air. That was the last time he and I ever saw the thing. This was about 10 years ago.
Creepy creature sighting aside, I hope the boyfriend got/gets the proper help needed.
If you are really tired or half asleep you can see hallucinations. I "saw" once a yeti that walked through the autobahn, stopped in the middle, waved at me and then went into the bushes. (No, I wasn't driving, but wasn't able to sleep for quite a time for the "encounter".) And I saw a huge spider creeping on the autobus seat that wasn't there either, just because I was really tired and half asleep. So yeah, your friend had his schizophrenic hallucination and because he told you how it looks, your half asleep brain created a similar creature for you.
I'm a sleepwalker, and I probably have some other undiagnosed sleep disorder, because in many occasions the line between dreams/real life has just vanished. What makes this case really creepy is that two people could see the same thing, which makes me believe they saw something, whatever it was, and it wasn't just a dream or a hallucination.
Load More Replies...Lots of stuff like this has happened at Skinwalker Ranch. The theory is that these are creatures from other dimensions, that can sometimes slip in and out of our reality. I know it sounds kinda crazy. I think many things we label as paranormal are normal, but we just don't understand them yet.
This happens more places than there. Authors Tom Lyons and Ethan Hayes publish books of all kinds of strange encounters that people have shared with them.
Load More Replies...I've always wondered if schizophrenics can simply see and hear things that are invisible/inaudible to "normal" people.
Yes,was wondering also. My mother is schizophrenic and she's extremely sensitive and vulnerable. Sometimes is hard to guess if she sees more than other or if it is dilutions...
Load More Replies...Hence those prone to hallucinations carrying a camera / phone at the ready to take quick snap to verify visual reality.
Image the situation. Me, 13 years old girl walking with my dog in fresh snow. Really fresh 5 cm of snow. No one around. I see big (really really big) black dog. I look at my dog. My dog is terrified and trying to get home. We run home. I wait for 10 minutes and go check that dog (I was stupid, yes). There are no dog footprints. None at all. On fresh fresh snow. Only footprints of me and my dog. I checked all area - nope, nothing. It wasn't hallucination. My dog nearly peed when he saw that black gaint dog.
The grim, it’s the most powerful omen in our world. An omen… of death!
Aren't there big black far hounds that appear like this. Like on moores and stuff
Damn this reminds me of that dog they see on the skinwalker ranch story - watch the mrballen video, it's a real story! They see a dog like this at the beginning I believe
I saw a big black dog years ago. It crossed the road in a mad dash, and disappeared into thin air. It was so unreal that nobody believed me
When it comes to how common experiences like this are, Jacob supposes that unexplainable events happen all the time. "The question is how often is it explainable with a little digging or help from others," he added with a laugh. "I know there are a few down right strange things I've witnessed. Some [eventually] made sense, while others were just way out there, and I may never truly understand them. I think lots of people just black those experiences out as one offs because they didn't make sense." But Jacob guesses that those who have experienced "truly impactful moments, or [those who are] intrigued by those one offs, would see those oddities more often!"
not seen, but felt/heard.
was 14, sat at my computer picking/biting my lips, which my dad always hated. someone pulled my hair (as he always did to get me to stop), and said my name.
my dad died when I was 13.
I fly helicopters for a living. I was working on a powerline one year and was going back to our landing zone and noticed an opening in the trees what appeared to be a leg. I came back and tried to get as low as I could into the clearing, thinking, it was a person, it was a full grown cow that had been completely skinned. There were no farms around and the animal didn’t appear to be cut up in anyway. I went back to the landing zone picked up one of my Ground crew members and flew back with him just so he could verify that I wasn’t crazy. The flight back, we were both kind of in awe because we have no idea how that animal got to where it’s at. Even more so that it had no skin on its entire body, it looked like a perfect cow sans skin.
Maybe a sadist dragged the cow to a secret spot and did his gruesome work there?
There was a guy I went to school with... really weird dude. Told me he would drive around at night and kill cows with a katana. Hope he ended up in jail. Fingers crossed.
If they weren't on the ground the person could (and probably did) miss the few cut marks that would be left after skinning an animal. Huge waste to just take the skin, but j could see someone finding a cow that wondered off and deciding they wanted a rug. Somehow I doubt someone would be able to skin something as big as a cow alive in the middle of nowhere, as some people seem to be implying. They are pretty big and there's a reason that 8 seconds on the back of one is considered a long time.
Interesting...there have always been stories and examples in the desert southwest down into Mexico where cows have been found skinned, drained of their blood, all kinds of weirdness on these ranches.
Finally, the OP added that he really enjoyed getting such a fascinating conversation rolling. "I haven't even had the opportunity to read all the responses, and I'm sure I will get hours more of interesting and educating moments out of it. I hope the rest of the community likewise enjoyed the share!"
One night, years after high school and I'd gotten married, I had a vivid and very sad dream about the first boyfriend I ever really loved. We were 15 and 16, broke up about 3 years later because he really got into drugs. I had this dream maybe 9 years after that. I dreamed I was walking down a crowded sidewalk in some big city and I bumped into him going the direction I just came from. He was crying and he asked me for help. I can't remember if the dream changed then or I woke up but it was just that little snippet of seeing his face. It was so clear. I still remember how his beautiful blue eyes looked. I don't know why I waited a couple more years to call his mother and ask about him one day when I recalled that dream for some reason. But I did call her. It turns out he had died in a freak accident around the time I had that dream. He had a car in his garage that he was working on. He had climbed on the hood for some reason, to do something, and he fell. Broke his neck and it was fatal. Now I'm always sad and a little creeped out every time I think of that dream. Probably always will be.
visitation dream. Many people have those when a loved one dies, and when later confirmed, they realize it's around the time they had the dream. Pretty much all wake up due to the emotions along with the visit. I've always only seen these stories as bittersweet because the passed on loved one always assures the dreamer that they (the departed) are happy and healthy, or/and they share love one last time, or just have a gentle convo with them about whatever may be going on in the dreamers waking life, etc. I see it as bittersweet since it's beautiful (sweet) for them to visit one final time, and bitter because that's the last time the loved one will be seen and heard. Unless the visitation dreams continue - but 99.999% only have one. IMO no matter the frequency, it's beautiful.
I had a visitation dream from my dad - a couple of months after he passed it was my birthday, and he came to tell me he was sorry he missed it and didn't get me a present. I said something about it being enough just to see him, and woke up crying - bittersweet is exactly the right way to describe it.

My uncle died last year at Thanksgiving time. I had talked to him the day before, I knew he was sick but he didn't say I'm about to die or anything like that. That night I had a dream about my aunt, his wife, who had died a couple years previous. She didn't say anything, just sat on the end of my bed watching me. I cried so hard in the dream because I missed her so much and she was my favorite aunt. The next day my sister calls me and tells me about our uncle passing. I still didn't realize until a couple days later why she had been in my dream. She was just checking on me before getting my uncle and I believe that with my whole heart.
My bio-father had called to tell me he had liver cancer and would be going in for tests. I gave him a pep talk, promised prayers, and said I'd call in a couple of days. I worked graveyard shift, so I was waking up around 2 pm and realized I'd been dreaming of him. I thought "I wonder how he is, I should call." At that moment the phone rang. It was his wife, telling me he'd passed that morning after his procedure. I believe he came by to say goodbye.
I had a dream like that....a high school boyfriend...after graduation our relationship was on and off for 10 years, we eventually went our separate ways. I married and had kids, he drifted around for years, drinking, drugs. He eventually married in his late 40's and seemed to settle down. I hadn't seen or heard from in years but I had a very vivid dream....I was walking up a flight of stairs and he was walking down the stairs, we were happy to see each other and he said after a brief pause, "I have to go down but I don't want to". I said well if your wife is waiting for you then you must go. He replied "she's not but I still have to go" I wished him good luck (had no idea where he was going) and woke up. The dream bothered me so much I started looking through the obituaries in the paper and sure enough he had died of a ruptured appendices.
We should've been best friends to this day. I miss you Star. Thank you for visiting me in my dream and letting me know you were ok. You are/were an angel and I should have told you when I had the chance. I hope you're still laughing at my jokes (humor was all I had back then).
Why'd did she wait to call the boy/man ?? If nothing else, to find out the truth?! 🤔🤨
Many years ago I had a dream about a maternal aunt and she was sick in my dream. I'd seen her the week before and she was fine so just ignored it. The evening after I walked past her house with my boyfriend around 10pm and stopped outside because I remembered the dream but realised that the house was dark which I assumed meant everyone was asleep so didn't want to knock on the door and wake them up. The next day I found out she was dead at just 39. She had started with cold symptoms a few days after I saw her and she thought she just had a cold. The night before her husband had gotten home from the pub drunk and saw her asleep and left her there and went to bed upstairs. The next morning their 9 year old sofa found her on the sofa, dead. Autopsy said that she had pneumonia. I'll always regret not stopping and checking on her and will forever blame myself for her death.
You weren't to know, please don't blame yourself. Not to be harsh but we all have our time to go and it was hers; for whatever reason. I'm so sorry for the loss you have suffered but your sister would not want you to be burdened by guilt.

A little context, he was a great guy, never crazy on a motorcycle, just had a baby, and baby momma wouldn't let him see her/sleeping around. The lady who hit him was the daughter of a wealthy politician in town, and not only didn't get charged with anything, but was gone before the ambulance even got there. Assuming she had drugs in the car or whatever, they let her go to prevent her going to jail. He wasn't ready to die. Cut to his funeral. His family was taking photos at the visitation, and he's standing in the background. Clear as day. White skin, hair fixed and same outfit he is wearing in his coffin, 10 ft away from where the picture was taken. Still gives me the chills looking at it. That was almost 10 years ago.
I’m a little bit confused as to what the bit about the baby momma meant, does anyone mind explaining?😅
She doesn’t let him see his baby daughter and she is also sleeping around.

Politics often pays off... you can shoot someone on 5th avenue and get away with it.
Cause having wealthy parents buys people ALOT of privilege in some communities. The cops probably said there wasn't enough evidence or something and left it "unsolved"

When I was like 10 or so, it was storming in the middle of the night. I was asleep in my bed and I was having a dream that I had to pee. If felt so real that I work up and ran to the bathroom. Got in the bathroom realized I didn't actually have to pee. There was a loud crack and what felt like an explosion. Lightning had struck a tree and it fell through the roof into my bedroom.
I'm picturing your guardian angel thinking, "Now how can I wake her up in time to escape her impending doom? I know!! Pee!!! LOL Way to go G.A!
This happened to me once. My step had just passed away (about a month prior) and I'd just found out I was pregnant. We were talking (in my dream) and I was telling her about the pregnancy, when she suddenly said "you need to wake up. You're going to be sick" and I thought she meant morning sickness, but no, I woke up and ran to the bathroom, vomiting and then my husband woke up and ran to the other bathroom with the same thing. We'd gotten food poisoning. Baby was fine (he's 22 now) but I'll never forget that dream.
Mom woke me up in the middle of a nap ... had to get up NOW. We ran. Barely cleared the house when branch from giant fig tree crashed through roof of our room. I was an ornery little cuss and mom relished the peace and quiet of my naps. Odds on her deliberately waking me for any other reason were ...ahem ...zero. I swear that fig tree hated me. Yeah, same one from my Tarzan days that launched me skyward and then broke. 😂☠️
A tree fell in front of us while we were driving. It almost killed us. Moments later a group of men dressed in nice clothes just happened to have chainsaws in their car, that was black and black tinted windows. They started cutting up the tree. We quickly turned around and said "nope". I tried to tell myself that it was just Mormons, who happened to have chainsaws in the back of their car. I called my mom the other day to see if she still remembers that incident and she does.
"Mormons with chainsaws" sounds like a good title of a B-movie horror.
Why Mormons? I would have thought the FBI, the secret service or something paranoid like that...but Mormons?
You haven't seen the play The Book of Mormon. They dress nicely. Neat.
Load More Replies...Happens a lot where I live (rural). Tree falls on road, someone will jump out with a chainsaw within about ten minutes. Or they'll just go home and come back with a Manitou and get rid of it.
Would make sense around here though. Rural state, lots of people have rifles, chainsaws, all kinds of tools kept in the backs of cars and trucks (and many also have tinted windows). They were probably just on their way somewhere that they needed to be dressed nicely when they got there.
“Hey Marvin, Maybe we shouldn’t kill these people, they seem to be having a rough day”
Nice clothes wearing Mormons with chainsaws and tinted windows. Must be Latter-Day Hipsters.
Load More Replies...Mormons, the young men doing their "mission" assignments rode around my neighborhood outside of Austin and if the grass looked a little bit long or anything needed to be done, they would stop and ask if they could do it for me. Had their own lawn stuff too. It is a common thing down there. New folks to the area were a little afraid of them..Hahahahaha
I live in Nova Scotia Canada and during a year of intense back pain I couldn't get my groceries carried up three flights of stairs. Two teenage boys, whom were Mormon, always showed up when I bought groceries. Not sure how they ever knew. I only ever saw them on those days, which always fluctuated and there they'd be. They didn't live in the building there was only five units.
Load More Replies...As a Mormon I'm genuinely curious why you thought it was Mormins with chainsaws? Was it because of how they were dressed? 😆
In college my wife (girlfriend at the time) had a nightmare that her pet iguana (at home with her father) had frozen to death after being left outside. She woke up sobbing and that woke me up. I calmed her down and told her it was just a dream. We both eventually got back to sleep. The next morning her father called to say that her pet iguana had been left outside overnight and had frozen to death. This wasn't a recurring dream or worry for her. This was the only time it happened. Nether of us can explain the events without the aid of religion or one in a trillion coincidence.
Poor iguana, if I was your girlfriend I wouldn't trust her Dad with a pet rock after that carelessness Edit: grammar
I would’ve called after the dream, no matter the time to ask where he is
Dreams tend to pull in a bunch of factoids and sensations that fly under the radar of our conscious minds. Possibly the OP already had reasons to think her dad might forget stuff, knew the weather was cold, had anxiety about their pet, and that made them have the dream. Sadly, the scenario they had anxiety about come to pass. There's nothing supernatural about thinking you have a scatterbrained family member that might not properly care for a pet they aren't used to dealing with on their own, and then something happening to the pet.
I think perhaps the father was just irresponsible and that it was a constant concern...
Why was the iguana outside? If this was a regular thing it was allowed to do, then it was a normal thing to worry about happening.
We're going to experience on average fewer than 30,000 nights, some with odd dreams in some of them. Also, things are going to happen to us. The odds of a dream coinciding with that event happening are long, but "one in a trillion"? No way. Probably not even as bad as one in a million.
How do you forget you left your pet outside? Especially in winter? Especially an IGUANA?
I wonder if she had called and insisted her dad check on the iguana would it be time enough to save him?
My nephew was pointing at a picture on the wall saying “boo!” and laughing, then the picture fell onto the desk below it.
Two of my kids used to point to the ceiling, laugh & say "Papa Max so funny." Papa Max, my Dad, had been dead for over 4yrs w/my 1st baby. Dad loved babies & being silly.
My Daughter used to stare up at one corner of out living room and laugh and smile and babble like she was interacting with someone..went on until she could walk around and found other interesting things to occupy herself
I woke up one sunny morning 35 years ago, and felt a compulsion to turn over in bed and look at the door which was diagonally opposite me. Then I felt very strongly that I should get up and get out of there. I reached the door and again felt a compulsion to look back and my ceiling collapsed centimetres away from me onto the floor.
I got sleep paralysis and then I was pulled off my bed
I was home alone.
I couldn't move but I could see, and I didn't see anything.
I don't go into that room anymore.
By the time I moved out of my definitely very weird, toxic, possibly haunted apartment (with literal former dungeon in the basement) many years ago, even my very ghost-skeptical in laws hated to be left alone in that house. My across-the-street neighbor gifted me a bottle of wine when he saw me packing to leave. He said my two years was the longest he had ever seen a tenant last in that apartment. And to be fair, I’d never seen a tenant last in the upstairs apartment unit for longer than six months. It’s the most like a horror movie my real life has ever felt — the ending scene confirmation from the crotchety old neighbor that yeah, that place that made life hell was known to be uninhabitably creepy all along
Load More Replies...Sleep paralysis is an evil bastard. I remember "waking up" one night with a person standing on my bedside. It freaked me the hell out but then I recognized my hubby, so ok, I guess? But then he bent down with a kind of "smile" face (but it happened like 10 years ago) and started choking me. I couldn't move, I couldn't breathe and I was so devastated that the person I loved most apparently hated me enough to kill me. Anyway, I was then shaken awake by my very worried husband laying right next to me in bed, who said I was sounding like I couldn't breathe. Anyway, first and hopefully last time I had sleep paralysis - my heart goes out to anyone having that BS regularly
I suffered from sleep paralysis for several years. It was AWFUL!!!! It got to the point where I was scared to fall asleep. I can't even begin to explain how terrifying it is! My daughter heard me in the middle of an "episode" once & it scared HER!!!! It went on for about 5 YEARS. Stopped as suddenly as it started. Thank God.
Load More Replies...I have had many sleep paralysis experiences. I usually see dead people next to my bed staring at me. Once I told myself to wake up and a voice told me that I belong here and we won't let you wake up. At the same time, I felt the hands through the mattress pressing me tighter to the bed. Once, in the middle of sleep paralysis, I felt so helpless that in my mind I desperately cried out for help. Next I saw blue and felt peace fill my mind and body and felt gratitude. Everything was clear and blue until it faded away and I was able to move and wake up again. Since then I haven't experienced any sleep paralysis. It makes it strange or reasonable, it depends on how you think about it, because I watched a Netflix documentary on the subject (now I couldn't find it anymore) where a person had experienced a similar blue phenomenon. Since the things seen during paralysis seem to be similar, the explanation for the phenomenon is probably normal, but it was strange.
I used to live in apartment that used to be nursing home in the past. Don't know anything about its history but 100%, residents used to die there. One night, I woke up and rolled around on the other side. There was an elderly lady standing next to me, white and clearly an apparition. At that moment, I woke up for real, sleeping in the very same position as when I woke up in the dream previously, chills running my back. It took me around a minute to find courage to roll on the other side and check whether she was still there. She wasn't.
I just started working in an assisted living home as an RA. The residents have a button on a necklace they push when they need something. It can range from they need their tv volume up or on my 2nd day there a 100 year old lady had fell in the bathroom and busted her head. Anyway, these go off all the time and about 20%of the time the residents swear they didn't push the button. It goes to a beeper I keep if you are wondering. So I say there is a ghost.
Load More Replies...Sleep paralysis tricks your body, then your brain. Nothing you see or experience is real. It's scary at the time, but sleep in a different position, and it doesn't happen.
My house is haunted. We have five decades or so worth of incidents. At some point long ago the family just gave up worrying about it.
The thing about sleep paralysis is that part of what you are perceiving may be the waking world, but you also get dream imagery and sensations mixed in. It feels like you are awake, but you're really not. So most likely, the person was near the edge of the bed and slipped over, and it felt like they were being pulled off. The exact same thing has happened to me many times. To me, it felt like something was dragging me off the bed, but other people present in the room saw me vaguely struggling to wake up and simply falling off the bed - I was probably in a poor sleep state from being in a weird position that let me fall off the bed, and it also precipitated a sleep paralysis event. As I woke and started being able to move my limbs, I fell off.
When I was 18 years old, I was driving home from a friend’s house with another friend. We were on the highway doing about 110kmph (70mph) and made this trip often. It’s a big highway between two Towns, so just fields either side. Something on two legs ran alongside my car. I saw it in the rear view mirror and out my side window. It was not a kangaroo, it was human like. Had long arms and obviously extremely fast. My friend saw it too and then it just went off the road back into the grass. Neither of us could explain it.
I was gonna say the Road Runner, but it had long arms, so maybe Wile E. Coyote.
Maaann....I really don't know why I read this stuff, it creeps me out so bad cause I definitely am not naive enough to believe that humans are the only intelligent creature in this world. Yet I'm going to keep reading cause I just can't help myself

A voice sounding like my friend's sister calling out his name from a tree line in a park, me and friend were walking home near the middle of the night, both of us heard it. He was called out 3 times.
When I was younger, on my fifth grade trip, we were on a hike and I'm 99.99% positive I heard my sisters (very much alive)voice yelling "Sissy, sissy help" sissy was her nickname for me. And when I asked my friend if she heard anything and she said no. Later that night I had a dream that my sister was standing outside my cabin door crying.
According to our Indian folklore, we shouldn't answer to anyone calling after the middle of the night, and if particularly it's 3 times.. so, in reality, if a family member is calling you, they need to call you like 4 times or less than 3 I guess. Crazy right..!
I was walking along a park sidewalk blowing off grass clippings. Got under some pine trees and through a break in the canopy an 8-10 pound rock came tumbling out of the sky, bounced and chipped the sidewalk and rolled down into a creek. Weirdest thing I’ve ever seen.
I was going to say it was a squirrel… but then re-read that it was a 10ish pound rock. Now I’m picturing a huge squirrel!!
That's possible. I was thinking it was probably closer to a rocky hill than OP realized.
Load More Replies...Bigfoot the rock thrower. Seriously, many stories say they throw rocks and other objects.
In eastern Kentucky when I was around 14 a friend and I were on a walk in the middle of the day when we realized there were two moons in the sky. We watched for around 15 minutes as one of the "moons" slowly shrink until it disappeared. 17 years later and my friend and I still talk about it.
Almost certainly weather related - mirage-like due to refraction of the air caused by temperature differences.
Just the Great Pussycat in the Sky lazily watching the world one-eyed, nothing to worry about
Likely a mirage caused the moon's lights refracting through cold air aloft. Unusual, but it does happen. The fading away of the second moon is the giveaway.
Middle of the day too. Sun and moon? No, one shrank and disappeared. Alien spacecraft? Government test of new tech? Hard to say. One thing is definitely was not was f*****g weather balloons. I’ve seen downed weather balloons up close and personal. Too low, too flimsy and delicate, they would’ve seen a deflated weather balloon fall, because they’re huge. Hmmm…
I worked as an under-butler in a large Scottish castle in the early 2000s. One night, I was the only person in the house, and decided to throw a load of laundry in before bed. I walked down to service hallway, into the ironing room, and from there to the washing machine room. I got my laundry in, and then started to leave. I turned the lights off in the washing machine room, and suddenly everything was black. The lights weren’t on in the ironing room. My first thought was “it’s weird that I didn’t turn the lights on in here when I came in, but they aren’t on so obviously I didn’t.” The ironing room had huge ironing tables the size of snooker tables, and as I started to walk through, I kept bumping into them. After a couple of times of bumping into them, I was suddenly filled with a terrible, accompanied, watched, spine-tingling feeling that something was there and not to look toward the sewing room (another room that came off the ironing room). I fumbled my way through the ironing room, back to the service hall in a panic. The hall lights were on and everything was fine. That is the whole story. I didn’t see anything. However, there are some problems. To this day, I am confident that I turned the lights on in the ironing room when I went in. It wasn’t possible to move through the room without bumping into things a bunch of times, as my exit demonstrated. The light in the ironing room was controlled by a very large switch that made a loud clicking noise. I didn’t hear it click off when I was in the washing room. In the days that followed, the family and the butler returned home, and I had forgotten about the entire incident. A week or so later, I suddenly remembered it happening, and said to the butler “I’ve never heard of any ghost stories at the castle. Are there any?” He kind of dismissively said “oh they say there is a white lady in the ballroom, and [room name redacted] is apparently haunted, but that’s it. Oh and they say the sewing room is haunted.” I kind of gasped and told the butler the story. He seemed fascinated. He told the family, and a couple of them agreed that the laundry room was unsettling. I don’t believe in ghosts, and think it was likely an unfortunately timed electrical fault and an over-active imagination. Still, I’ll never forget how sudden and strong the feeling of a presence was when I was fumbling my way out of the ironing room.
Scottish castles are not creepy at all. I live in one since 1347 and so far I saw no ghosts, the most scary thing was cat making weird sounds during a storm.
Load More Replies...I had a similar experience, but I think this was just tiredness, anxiety, too much true crime, and overactive imagination. I was going to the bathroom in the middle of the night and it was almost pitch back except for this little blue light on in my dads office. I step into the bathroom and my throat tightens, I can’t hear anything, and I just get this RUN thought in my head. I go to the bathroom and it gets strong enough that I run as fast as I can to my room and the feeling stops the second I get into my room.
What the heck is the [room name redacted]? BP! Seriously?! As for the story, i would say electric shortcut? And yes, if people are closed in in a dark room where it's hard to get out, they usually panic what can cause the feeling that someone is watching you. That's why fireman are taught how to go around in unknown rooms full with smoke.
It's not BP but in the original Reddit post. I'm guessing because the original poster didn't want to dox themselves so removed the distinctive name of the room.

2 missing hours
Setup: I used to be a home health aide for the disabled/elderly. I stayed overnights to help them get up, use the restroom, change, clean them, etc. I used to take care of a man named Mr. M.
We kept an old large clock alarm that chimed every hour. Every 2 hours we'd roll Mr. M over, and change his pads. We recorded everything that happened in a notebook by the clock.
Story: It was a usual day until around 2:00 am. I heard the chimes ring (twice) wrote down that I was going in, then went in, wrote what I did (changed his pads) wrote the time I got done, then went back to the kitchen where I sat every night, having my laptop set up to pass the time.
About 15 minutes pass, and I hear the clock chime again... 4 times. I look at my computer, thinking the clock was wrong, and no... 4:00 am. I look at the notes, no new notes. I write that I'm going in I go in to change Mr.M's pads... I walk in, and he looks at me and asks "Weren't you just in here?" I said yea, then went with changing his pads (they were dry, a rarity)
I still have no idea what happened to those 2 hours. It was like 2 hours passed in 15 minutes. And 3:00 was skipped completely.
I was watching a youtube series at the time, and my video would have ended in that 2 hours.
I have no idea to this day what the hell happened.

To those suggesting a time change/DST, this happened December 11th, 2016
Obviously both of you fell asleep & were unaware of the passage of time.
Most likely explanation. Bladders and kidneys generally do not know (or seem to care) what time it is. They will process fluids at a certain rate, even if they had increased his fluid intake randomly and kidneys went like the clappers to clear it the pad was dry. If they were routinely having to change him and needing to change him every 2 hours and a dry pad was rare it just makes it all a bit more "what the?"

Starbucks is about 5 minutes from my house. 1 day, I got my coffee & headed off to work, 10 minutes or less away.. I was almost half an hour late to work. I lost almost 45 minutes somehow and still can't explain it.
I lost 2 1/2 hours awake from just afternoon until 3 pm with no clue where the time went. Poof, gone. Not sleeping nor drunk. The fastest 2 1/2 hours I ever spent. Twilight zone.
Are used to lose quite a bit of time. Turned out I was having seizures. I don't think I ever lost two hours though.
I nap in front of my computer all of the time and wake up thinking I had just closed my eyes for a second. Let's call these "Hypnotic Computer Naps."
In my old town house, the bedrooms had L-shaped door handles . I lived alone and it was a two story town house with the bedrooms upstairs. Had multiple nights where I’d be laying in bed watching YouTube videos on my IPad, when my door handle would twist and the door would slowly open. The first time, I thought someone broke in. Each subsequent time, I’d go through the town house and no one was there. The hallway light which was also the stair light, had a switch at the bottom of the stairs and top that controlled the same light. Multiple times while in bed, the light would turn on. So I’d get up, do a search of the entire town house. Nothing there. Then the TV would turn on in the living room at some point, and I’d wake up and walk downstairs to the tv being on. This went on for months and I eventually moved. Nothing like this occurs in my current apartment. But could never explain what was happening.
Just a polite ghost checking their living house-mate is safely in bed before settling down to watch TV.
Same thing happened to me in Germany. My dad was stationed there and I was at work about to walk out of another office when the handle went down on its own and the door opened. The door had glass panes in it. There was.no one on the other side.
Was someone squatting in your attic, and coming down at night to eat—-and f**k with your head by “mysteriously” turning s**t on? Ya never know, you know.
This seems like the best explanation. Even if one believes in the supernatural, ghosts are usually more subtle.

Load More Replies...So they actually saw the door handle turn, rather than their brain forming a false memory of it turning because that’s what it associated with a being door opened? Bad wiring and bad construction sure are scary…
Or the door handle mechanism was a bit faulty such that moving the latch would move the door handle... that's the first thing I'd have checked. And if a door wasn't properly shut (looks closed but latch didn't fully snap into it's place) a draft pushing against a door can be enough to open it...

A couple of months ago, my girlfriend went on a skiing trip, so I had to spend the nights alone with my cat, which I usually don't mind. My cat always sleeps on our bed, keeping guard like a dog would do. We have a security camera installed, pointed at my front door due to people breaking in a couple of weeks earlier. I woke up in the middle of the night because I heard loud and aggressive banging on my front door, I even felt the door shaking. My cat threw an anxious look at the banging door, and immediately jumped under the bed. I panicked, and figured that I was in a dangerous situation, alone in the middle of the night. I walked towards the kitchen to grab a knife, because I was afraid someone was banging on the door with bad intentions. I opened the door and the hallway was quiet af. No lights on, no nothing. I decided to call the cops, afraid of whoever or whatever did it still being in the building. I immediately checked our security footage, and there is me, waking up in panick, grabbing a kitchen knife and walking up to the front door to find nothing but peace and quiet. Creepy thing is that on the camera footage, there is no banging or loud noises at all, everything is quiet, just a normal night. I swear I heard all of it, even my cat did. Still creepes me out to this day.
So, OP's cat was more a not-so-early warning system than a guard dog given it hid under the bed at the first sound of someone/thing banging on the front door
Check out exploding head syndrome. Odd name but I think this happens more than we realize https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/21907-exploding-head-syndrome-ehs#:~:text=Exploding%20head%20syndrome%20(EHS)%20is%20a%20type%20of%20sleep%20disorder,wake%20up%20during%20the%20night.

And OP startled the cat so under the bed it went.

Waking dream. Although motion sensors on PIR cameras are notoriously flakey at night, I've got extra IR lights on mine and it still can't pick up most motion (Ring are renowned for this).
Did the security camera even have an audio unit? Many don't. I hope you & cat moved out of there and now are in a better place 😳
I have experienced something very similar. Woke up, after hearing tree aggressive and loud knocks on our front door. I was terrified. Shortly after my fiancé checked (while keeping lights off in the house) through a window facing the door entrance. No one there - or around the house.
A few years ago I was staying in Alabama with a friend. One day I was driving down a steep road in the rain and fog, it wasn’t quite night yet but it was getting dark. Within the blink of an eye there was a little girl on the side of the road walking towards my car and I thought I was about to hit her head on and she disappeared. I panicked and turned around and there was no one. I’ll never forget it because my brain just can’t make sense of it.

I had a friend 25 or so years ago who could predict streetlights going out with uncanny accuracy. E.g. we'd be driving along at night and he'd say to me "that streetlight up ahead, the bulb is about to die". We'd get closer to it and "ping", the light would burn out. This happened too many times and too regularly to be coincidental. Other than that he was a perfectly normal ordinary bloke. He later went to Baptist seminary. Maybe that had something to do with it.
That reminds me, once in chemistry I was doing my work when I suddenly smelt chloroform (don't ask how I know what that smells like, I just do) no one else smelt it
Short version : 14 years old, pretending to sleep at a friends house and instead walking around the city (Colorado Springs, Colorado ) at around 3am , and suddenly for about 2-3 minutes it’s bright as day across the whole city. I could clearly see mountains probably 5 miles away. And then poof , back to dark.
There was no obvious source of the light.
That was around 35 years ago. Still have no clue what it was.
Edit: (surprised this post got any attention, also amazed at how many others had very similar experiences).
Agree with the feedback suggesting a meteorite is the most likely explanation. It was not a cloudy night so I think electrical ground source bouncing off clouds is less likely.
Those suggesting iridium satellites , this was mid to late 80’s so I don’t think they launched yet.
And yeah, there’s a ton of military stuff in the area , NORAD , the Air Force Academy , Peterson AFB and I think a few others were mentioned. I think these are less likely than a meteorite because of how far up and down the mountain range I could see.
Also folks mentioning a meteorite probably wouldn’t last 2-3 minutes. I think my time perception could be off. I froze up and just stared at the basin for of the city and the very prominent mountains for however long it was. It *felt* like a few minutes , but maybe it wasn’t?
The odd thing with any explanation is that the light source was clearly on my side of the Rocky Mountains (the whole front range was visible) , so the source seems like it had to be from above; yet I couldn’t see any point of light in the sky where intuition says it had to be.
Still , i suppose the have been nestled behind some geography that blocked my view but didn’t block it casting light on the basin of the city/mountain range. That seems plausible.
Ive had this happen. 3am-ish, Stoney Creek ON. Approx summer of 95. It was dark and all of a sudden it turned bright as day for 2-3 mins. So weird.
Camping years ago at the Lake Erie islands over Memorial Day. Friends decided to hit the bars in town and my boyfriend and I stayed at the campground. All tent camping and the camp ground was full because of the holiday weekend. It was dark out but all of a sudden the sky started to light up as if somebody was turning on the fluorescent lights at a big discount store. It was very cloudy but the lights travelled across the sky in a sequence. Then it was as if it was broad daylight for a couple of seconds. Entire campground went silent except for crackling camp fires. Next everybody was saying "What the h*ll was THAT?". That's when we realized all the radios had gone out also. As soon as everything was dark again the radios all came back on. I guess it was lightning that might have hit something but we never heard thunder and it hadn't rained that day and it didn't rain that night either. Beautiful and very strange.

Why has this happened to so many people?! There must be an explanation
As soon as I read “14 years old, pretending to sleep at a friends house and instead walking around the city (Colorado Springs, Colorado ) at around 3am” I knew the OP must be Gen X. Sure enough, lol! I think we all did that at that age. Personally I went skinny dipping at the local pool with the friend I was staying over with.
I was driving through a canyon in Colorado at 1am. it was very dark, no moonlight. Suddenly the sky opened up and it became the brightest daylight ever and 3 very large, beautiful angels dressed in white robes and had very large wings, came down to my windshield. I stopped the car and we stared at each other for a few minutes and then they back away as darkness closed in. Perhaps they were saving me from an accident up ahead, or they were showing me that I had 3 guardian angels. I don't know. I just know that I'm glad it happened. There is beauty on the other side.
This happened like a week ago. I went back home to my country for the first time in years. The house has 8 bedrooms and me being 20years old, I didn’t want to have to share a room with anyone so I took one of the empty ones down the hall. Each room had its own switch board panel for its respective lights and ceiling fans. These switches are “heavy” ig you could say, so when u flip them, they make a loud clicking sound. Now it was around 3-4am and i wake up to that same clicking sound. Imagine a child playing with the lights, on and off and on and etc. But at a certain pace. At night, each individual room is locked. If its occupied, we lock it from the inside, so no one could’ve come into the room. I was laying on my side so I didn’t have direct eye contact with the switch panel and honestly I was too scared to moved. But at this point I’ve been hearing this clicking sound for like 5 mins now. So i slowly turn my head and I see a shadowy figure in front of the panel and what looked like an arm extending to the panel. I slowly turned my head back closed my eyes, and just stayed completely still. That sound went on for about another 30 mins before it completely stopped. My family always told me about supernatural events thats happened in this house when i was a kid but I never believed it til now.
This is the supernatural equivalent of "this is fine," just slowly staring and then turning back.
I've heard weird clicking sounds in the little speaker for the doorbell and the little box for the ceiling fan controls. Doorbell batteries have been dead for awhile so I check it out wondering what the heck it is. Unscrew the casing and there are two geckos humping. Ceiling fan noises were the same thing. Bloody geckos make all sorts of weird noises especially late at night (when hunting bugs I guess).
A drive that usually takes me less than 3 hours took me more than 4 once. I don't know how it happened. No traffic, didn't take the wrong path, didn't see anything strange in the road, same speed as usual. Everything was normal until I noticed it was starting to get dark, then checked the clock and freaked out.
Dozing off would not explain the extra hour+ on the drive.
Load More Replies...Sometimes when I’m driving and taking in the scenery, I’m not aware I’m slowing down. Or sometimes speeding up, because my attention isn’t on the speedometer. Maybe OP didn’t know they were slowing down so much because their mind was occupied on everything else around them. Just a linear time idea. However, it’s possible time isn’t linear, and maybe sped up enough to make the drive take 25% longer. That’s quite a thought, isn’t it?
I saw myself behind me through the mirror. I know for a fact it was there
Somewhere else in BP I read a post by someone who sometimes couldn't recognise his own face in the mirror. This is nearly as terrifying!
"So I turned myself to face me, but I've never caught a glimpse..."
I have face blindness, so this would be another curious course of study for me.
I was standing on the seaside walkway with a bunch of other people watching the sunset. A red orb came speeding down the coastline at like 50-150m altitude. Didnt think much of it until it instantly stopped and speeded back the way it came until it was out of sight.
No noise, too low for a plane or helicopter and wasn't a flare because it was flying fast, stopped instantly and then flew back the way it came.
Several people saw it but this was before mobile phones with cameras were a mainstream thing.
*UFO out for a twilight flight* "Cr*p, there are people standing there! Gotta head back home, hope they didn't see me!"

This might be a stupid idea, but possibly way closer to you than you thought? Like a drone type thing in the foreground?
Mine was silver; also sunset. Entered the atmosphere with a quick trail of black smoke then suddenly stopped. Smoke dissipated within seconds. Another orb shot off from it, slightly smaller, towards Canada. Then the main orb shot off the exact opposite direction about 30 seconds later was gone within seconds, though it seems like it vanished more than moved too far away to see, but it was ridiculously fast moving.
I too had a similar experience back in the ‘70s. I was driving with a friend at night and noticed a white light moving fast in the sky and we both thought it was a satellite until it stopped dead then took off at about 90 degrees. We stopped the car and watched it until we couldn’t see it anymore.
Meteor passing by, it appeared to go back up because of the curvature of the earth.
I, 13 at the time, was about to go to bed. I was brushing my teeth in front of my bedroom window, staring into the dark, when I suddenly heard someone screaming outside. I stopped brushing so I could hear it better. Someone was screaming out my name. I sort of froze and kept listening. More voices joined, all screaming my name and laughing loudly. It was kind of like an audience at a sports game. It went on for about five minutes. When it stopped I (in shock) went downstairs to my parents to ask them if they’d heard anything. it was impossible not to hear as it was very loud. They had not heard anything. I assume it was some sort of a hallucination. Still feel weird when I’m alone in my room late at night.
😂, was thinking the same”wow you’re 13 and brush your teeth before bed?”

I was staying the night with a cousin on his ranch and in his front yard there was a basketball hoop on a homemade wall like concrete bricks stacked upwards, and we both to this day swear on god we saw what looked like a 8 foot tall coyote standing up against the wall tugging on the hoop, we closed the blinds quick and that was the night we established the existence of the ranch’s very own cryptid. I think we called it like “doom dog” or some s**t (we were 9-10)
Yep! Basically human height (or taller) when they're on their hind legs. main-qimg-...55fa20.jpg
yeah. if my li'l kitty can stretch out over 3 feet, I wonder how long a wolf can stretch out.
A cryptid is a supernatural creature, i.e. dragons, griffons, gargoyles, etc.

3:30am. My buddy and i spent the night repo’ing cars. We pull up to the light in Manchester NJ of 527 and 70. Going straight. In the left turn lane, getting on to 70 East, a blue, 97-98 Honda CRV. The person driving had no face. Just blank. Like the green man from Always Sunny or NoFace from D**k Tracy. My buddy and I both saw it. Nobody believed it.

Load More Replies...This incident happened to me when I was 10 years old. My friend and I were cycling. It was around 7:15, and it had gotten dark. There was a road where we usually cycled, but it was a dead end. There were bushes on one side and a wall with barbed wires. At the end of the road, there was a residential complex on the right side, and a small route led to the farms. The middle part of the road was all quiet and dark. My friend and I were just chatting and cycling when I heard a sound. I don't remember it well, but it seemed like a little girl weeping. Just as I was about to ask my friend, "Hey, did you hear that?" he shouted, "RUN! AHHHH!" When we reached the other side of the road where the residential complex was, I asked him, "What the heck, bro? What happened?" He was shivering in fear and said he saw a woman in the bushes with a big white eye. When some people appeared on the road, we quickly left. We were shivering with fear, and to this day, we don't know how to explain it.
Homeless people living in the bushes, maybe? A spirit of someone who died on that dead end? Aliens? The first is a rational explanation. The other two are things I wish to keep and open mind about, but still want solid proof really exist—-scholarly, peer-reviewed proof that can be replicated.
Eh, I could see someone being terrified and screwing that up.

There's an old closed down road through a bunch of fields around the corner from my house, me and my girlfriend were walking the dogs there one night at around 11pm because we wanted to look at the stars. As we pass through the railings at the entrance we both notice someone coming out from deep in the bushes to the left of the road, only visible as it was full white and almost reflecting/glowing from head to toe (even tho it was pitch black with no lights anywhere near, thats why we go there to see the stars). At first I assumed it must've been a cyclist as it appeared to be literally gliding up the road (which is a very steep hill) with no movement other than forward, no head bobbing from walking, but at the same time no movement in the legs and this thing was dead silent, it was close enough to hear if it was a bike. the dogs were barking like crazy but we just kept walking in silence i dont know why i assume we were almost in shock. As it disappeared around the corner my girlfriend turned to me and said "did you just see that", I replied "I didnt want to say anything because I didnt want to scare you". We still dont know what it was but i know for certain it made no sound coming out from the bushes and didnt appear to be dragging a bike through, it was just literally gliding or floating. I didnt realise until after that the reason the road was closed was because it was the most deadly road in my town for collisions so they built a new one and closed it down. Still creeps me out to think about it possibly being someone who lost their life on that road, but im still in denial trying to refuse to believe it. I still tell my girlfriend it must've been a cyclist just so she will still come for walks through there with me, but I know and so does she it was not.
I wish I could contribute to this stories but I don't know how. This same exact thing happened to me. My mum, brothers and I were on our way to new year's crossover that night. Mum drove out of the compound and we were all in the car waiting for my bro to lock the gate. In the dark night I saw a figure of a person in all white "walking" in the junction just two houses away. But when we drove pass the exact spot nobody was there. Like the person was never there. I asked my bro if he saw someone and he said he didn't. I could swr someone was there. Shining so bright that the moon couldn't just be the source of it's brightness. My siblings think I was just delusional.

We are driving, and then we see two stars alongside the moon. They were huge. We both noticed them, and we were drawn to them. So big and bright. Then one moves. It literally hovers slowly toward the other one. We are so intrigued by this weird hovering light and pull over to watch. Then the other one hovers over. So now the two little stars are directly below the moon. Out of nowhere and even bigger star comes flying by (think shooting star) and literally sucks the two stars up as it passes. A huge light emitted and they are all just gone. Creepiest, weirdest s**t ever. We just went home after that.
One of their ancestors was trying to keep them out of trouble by scaring them enough to take the car straight home!
Nice daughter. No respect for her mother. The Universe was trying to tell you something, wake up.
I live outside city limits, there are very few houses near my home and many tall bushes and trees around the house, there is a small mountain at some distance. The nights are very quiet and there is no street lights so after dark the only lights are the lights from my house and the moon light. There are two trees a little far from my house that are standing close to one another. One night while I was outside my house with a flashlight doing something I realized there was only one of those trees, I looked around that tree with my flashlight but there was no sign of the other tree, like it never existed. The next day I went there during daytime to see exactly what happened to the other tree and they both were there just like I remembered. I looked around them and even climbed on them to see anything strange but nothing was out of ordinary.
Pop sci keeps pushing that we might be in a simulation, not sure how legit it is but at some level that quantum wave duality is influenced by observation could be seen as dynamic rendering. Throw in AI's and that stuff people pay only a little attention to would be prioritized as background stuff and a good chuck of odd events make sense. For my part to make things easier for the AI's if I suddenly need something that wasn't previously important and it's not where it should be I try looking away for a bit then looking back to give it a chance to unobtrusively render without making a big deal of it, you can call it a mental issue if you want, plausible deniability greases a lot of wheels.
you might've lost track of the tree in the dark, or this is proof we're living in a simulation, who knows?
The internet was probably slow that night, the other tree was still being rendered
In my early 20s I was home alone. I woke up to my cell phone ringing but missed the call. The phone number I missed the call from was my home phone number. I got up and found the cordless phone on the kitchen counter. I looked everywhere, but no one was in the house and the doors were all locked.
Hmm…scammers. I was at my Grams house. My cell rings, it was her number. She tells me to answer it-out of curiosity. Scammers are now hijacking other local numbers to make you answer.
I noped out of answering any of those when my own cell number called me. On my cell. Figured if it was really me, I'd know to text me. XD

I have the number for my bank stored in my phone, one day I got a call supposedly from them trying to get me to give them certain security details. It's easy to see why some people believe it's a genuine call, they sounded pretty plausible.
In the late 80's my phone rang at work and when I picked it up it was my home answering machine.
It's called "spoofing" phone numbers, scammers are able to make ANY ph# show up on your caller ID.
I was away from my landline phone when it rang, but the answering machine said it was a local number so I called back. The person who answered said no one had used the phone in months and it was very strange that I even had the number. It was a funeral home. True story.
I live next to an RAF base, lucky enough to be on the landing path. I swear on my life that I not only saw something come off a plane from the wheel well but heard it hit the ground. Queue me rounding everyone to look around, only to find nothing and be called a bulls**tter.
Stowaways often hide in the wheel wells of planes so yeah... Make what you want to of that
Less likely to happen on military aircraft, there was a case a few years back on a plane I think was heading to Gatwick Airport, I believe they found the body of the stowaway in someone's back garden. He had frozen to death and fell out when the landing gear was lowered.

I was so scared, and I still don’t have an explanation.
Me and my brother saw light coming through a bricked off vent in my house about 20 years ago. It was a powerful light like there was a mini sun in there. Light has never come through it before or since and we both still remember it.

At first I thought it was something like a short. But it was at the wrong angle and brighter than either of those. It looked more like someone was flashing headlights through the window, except the only window across from that wall would have also been at a bad angle for where the light was. Idk what made it stop, but we definitely were creeped out that might lol we do have a hall light that randomly turns on sometimes, but again, it lights up a different section of the hallway. Both my hands were wrapped up in the blankets because it was a cold night and we didn't have too much money to heat the home. Then, without warning, one of the pillows flew out from under my head toward the wall with an insane force, as if someone had violently pulled it out from under me. I turned over and there was nobody there! There's no way someone could have pushed it and I was facing the direction it would have been pulled from. Naturally I stayed up the whole rest of the night lol I still can't work out the physics of what happened to this day.

When I was a little kid I had a very small rock “collection”. In all reality it was just a little glass jar full of those polished rocks you get at museums. Anyway I would just take the rocks out and look at them every so often, so I was pretty familiar with my little set of rocks. One day, I dumped out my jar, and I found two solid black rocks that I had never seen before. I was certain that I would have remembered getting them because they were so cool. I asked my parents and they didn’t know where they came from either. Not the craziest story, but I still wonder about that sometimes.
Dad was a pilot. Flying at night one time he saw a huge light in the sky, like a spotlight, but there was no visible ground source for it. Pops and his wingman turned and flew toward it for a while to try and figure it out, but never managed to get visibly closer. It was like flying toward a rainbow, or the moon. (No, it was not the moon - at least not directly) Then it ‘went away’ - looked like it suddenly receded into the distance. He thought it was some sort of weird, exceedingly rare atmospheric phenomenon. Not little green men.
One time it was recess when I was in 5th grade. A crazy sky phenomenon happened, there was a weird flash/ swirl of a rainbow in the middle of the sky and it lasted for less than one minute and then it closed. It kind of looked like a portal. Can someone tell me what scientific phenomenon was that?
When I was about 16, I was at a sleepover LAN party with some kids from my school. They were more of the sporty types. Sort of friends, but more so acquaintances. One of them wanted to go to the store and I went with them (it was night, probably 9 or 10pm). This was in a very small town in New England by the way. Anyway, we're driving, and this monkey-cat looking creature just hops out of the woods and lands right in front of the car. We just stopped and froze, then it hopped into the other side. And this was two total hops. Thing went farrr. We spent the rest of the night trying to figure out what animal that was. Anyone know? I was thinking about that the other day, but I never really talked to the kid in the first place and haven't seen him since highschool. Edit: had a really long tail. Thinking back, more like the head of a cat and the body of a monkey. It wasn't very large, but definitely not small. Light brown
Can't say I've ever heard of a party to celebrate computer local area networks.
It was how you played co-op video games in the 90's. Internet connections were too slow, so if you wanted to play with your friends you all brought your desktop computers to one location and physically wired them to each other. A LAN party is exactly what you would expect a group of teen boys to do at a sleepover circa 1997.

Once, some friends and I were driving around Lake Forest, California. As we passed El Toro Cemetary, we saw that the gate was open, even though it was past midnight. Being dumb kids, we drove deep into the cemetary, parked, and went walking around. A while later, near the top of a hill, we saw a small light bobbing and weaving over a grave. It looked like if a light was reflecting off a brass dog tag. But there were no lights in the cemetary and our car was off. The only illumination was a bit of moonlight. There was no source that could have been causing that unwavering light as it moved around. We were shaken and afraid to approach, but we ascended the hill close enough to confirm that there was nothing connected to the light: no animal, no grave-keeper. We ran back to the car and got out of there, suddenly certain that the gates would be closed. They were still open. I have no explanation for what we saw.
Twice (once when I was five and another at twelve) I’ve seen motion and someone walking outside my living room window. It looked like someone walking outside, but only about six feet away seems weird. Both times it happened, I was with another person (different people) and both said they saw it. It looked kind of like an IG-88 series droid-shaped head (we only saw it peripherally but the head looked smooth) and we were on the floor so it we couldn’t gauge its height. And both times there was nobody around.
My husband/then boyfriend and I went to the movies. About 1/4 into the film, I noticed he kept looking past me down the empty aisle (it was a Tuesday matinee so fairly empty theater aside from people at top of the seats and some at the very bottom). I tried asking what he was doing, he shook his head. But the second or third time I sat him staring again, I looked myself. Some dark shape was on the stairs but hunched down. And it began to CRAWL down the stairs, out of sight (already hard to see in the dark theater and it was so low it was hidden by the aisles of seats). I watched the bottom of the steps, waiting for a kid to jump out but no one ever did. My husband later told me he kept seeing some man standing at the end of our aisle, then standing closer in the aisle, and finally he looked over at this stranger was sitting down two seats away from me, which made no sense b/c there were rows of empty seats all around us. I never saw anything but the shadow.
