There are days, months, and entire years when the world feels gloomy. In the midst of worldwide chaos, political turmoil, inflation and a looming economic crisis, the uncertainty of the post-pandemic world, and too many things we don’t want to dedicate an entire page to, it may be hard to find a ray of light.

For many people, keeping themselves positive has become a challenge in itself. Especially, when the news headlines more often than not tell us the very opposite. But this corner of Reddit known as the “Happy” subreddit is a getaway we all need. “Happy Reddit to make you happy,” says the slogan of the community which is home to 474k “happy campers”, aka members.

Scroll down through our selection of the fuzziest and warmest posts below, and be sure to share the article with anyone who needs an uplifting boost!

Former meth addict here. I used for more than a decade. Five years clean this month. You can do ANYTHING when you don't rely on drugs for a crutch. I wish you the best, friend. You have a very bright future ahead of you.

Some ppl hear 200 days and they’re like “That’s pretty good”, but for us that were addicts at one time, we know even 30 days is quite an achievement. Congratulations on your current and future achievements.

every moment, every single day is a battle. to wake up each morning and choose health, happiness, flourishing. freedom. every day is a step away from the suffering. you're completely right. those first few days/weeks are the hardest and i commend everyone that fights it out to get through each day. 30 days is amazing. 200 days is astronomical. something you can't even fathom when stuck in the addiction, or just starting to get clean. almost a year released from that evil. i hope you're doing great, feeling happy, surrounded by love and support, thriving, and truly living your life. i'm proud of you for taking care of you, friend♥️

I finally got the finalized divorce papers in the mail today! That means I officially have custody of my two tiny monsters! I’ve also lost over 70lbs in the last year, working to get healthy and watch these two grow up. Haven’t been this happy in forever.

(Edit to say sorry flutterbyy I commented on the wrong spot! Have an upvote) Ignore below comments about “oh it was probably the dad’s fault because the mom did this or the mom did that or the wife probably _____.” It’s exhausting, why are we doing this ——I see your story OP and I’m raising a glass for you, “HER LOSS.” :) Good job dad, good father, good luck with your cute tiny monsters.

i understand where you're coming from, but not everyone is cut out to be a parent. i'm glad when those who know they don't want their kids, won't be good parents, don't want to care and provide etc. can recognise and acknowledge it and give the kid up to the other parent, for adoption or whatever. it saves the kid from a lifetime of trauma, heartbreak, feeling unwanted/worthless - instead they get loving parent(s) who want them. these angels are free of a mother that doesn't want them, raised in love, acceptance, nurturing, happiness, security. i wish society didn't force parenthood and shame ppl who don't want to partake, inferring it as bad and malicious when it's actually a kindness, beneficial for everyone involved. instead, facilitating such decisions so all kids get the great upbringing and loving home they deserve. far better than the pain and guilt forced on parent and child. it's a win-win situation

To find out more about this uplifting corner of Reddit known as “the Happy Reddit,” Bored Panda spoke with its moderator N8theGr8 who happily shared some insights into the community with our readers. The moderator said that although he wasn’t there when the sub was created back in 2008 (which is pretty impressive by Reddit’s standards), he has been along for “the ride for a while at this point.”

“When I joined, there weren't really any automated processes running on that subreddit, so we had to deal with fights and brigades manually,” N8theGr8 recounted. He added a few filters to cut down on that, and “it's helped the subreddit hum along without much in the way of needing to actually step in to mod it, which I think helps ensure a community as free from outside interference as possible.”

That's lovely. Around a year after I lost my wife, I was looking for a pen. Her handbag was still where she had left it. She always had pens so I decided to try it. First pen I found, never seen it before, had "always there" written on the side. Not ashamed to say that I had "a moment"!

If it gives comfort, I'm not going to say anything. Sometimes you have to tell yourself stories. I don't believe it myself, but I've had "moments" and they do comfort, even when you know it's a combination of sadness and wishful thinking on a biscuit of coincidence

“There's a lot of uncertainty in politics, news, climate, and many other issues facing us all lately,” N8theGr8 said. And in this difficult time, the Happy community on Reddit which is home to 475k members seems to be as relevant as ever. “I think it's good to be able to just have a spot where you can unwind to celebrate and focus on small victories and uplifting positive content,” he added.

The moderator said that the community “certainly has new people joining every day, and it's always nice to find someone who is happy to be able to have a small sanctuary of positivity.” This reflects in the subreddit’s description too: “Too many depressing things on the main page, so post about what makes you warm and fuzzy inside!”

When asked how N8theGr8 himself stays resilient to negativity, the moderator said that he gets regular exercise and has other hobbies. Aside from that, “and at the end of the day, I just assume that everyone being overly negative on the internet has their own problems and I figure that they're just yelling because they don't really view their computer screen as a person, so basically, I give people the benefit of the doubt.”

Any thing that does that isn't aligning itself with anything good. You go I'm very proud of you you have broken something else than drugs or alcohol. It's a shame what crimes are committed in God's Name. I always think of Jesus kicking over the moneychangers takes after plaiting a whip to hit them with. I would have loved to have seen that. You go son, you are going to be fine.

Crimes in God's name? Rape, slavery, religious warfare and genocide were endorsed by God within the Old Testamnent. I wouldn't use Him as the morality measuring stick.

Look at those biceps! He’s really worked hard for this, and I’m so proud of him. He’s got a beautiful warm smile, and in both of these pictures I see a handsome kind face, but it’s the joy, pride, and confidence in the second pic that really make him more attractive, more so than the smaller waistline. The longer hair and beard really suit him too!

this particularly touched me. i have a severely autistic brother. amazingly he understands 2 languages but he can't communicate. can't do basic self-care w/o aid + instruction, can't go anywhere independently, needs constant stimulation + protecting from sensory overload. left alone, he'd starve/die of thirst in our home bc he just DOES NOT know to instinctively eat + drink. i love him w everything in me. he's my whole life. he understands humour + sarcasm. hearing him laugh at sth is magic. after countless yrs + even more techniques, we found some buzzwords so he can communicate. he now tells me some basics like "bathroom" "need to eat" "watch tv" + his lit FAVE: "skincare". my boy's a skincare WHIZ. knows dermatology lvl products + methods. reprimands me if i forget sth from our complex 20step night routine that i live for. seeing him light up at sth, his happiness + progress is euphoric. i strive for wealth so i can provide the life of luxury, support + top tier skincare he deserves

You can do this. I promise it gets better, just hang in there one day, hour, minute, second at a time. Soon, a week or a month or a year will go by without you even thinking about going back. It's not always perfect, but it's always better than when you drank/used. Speaking from experience.

When I was in the rehabilitation hospital (back surgery), I noticed that a number of patients were carrying around a heart pillow. I learned that it's not uncommon for doctors to "prescribe" them for cardiac patients. Apparently, they provide noticeable relief from post-surgery pain. Here's a link that explains why. https://www.genesishcs.org/news-search/heart-pillows-pressure-can-reduce-pain-cardiac-patients

I can tell you that my little heart shaped pillow was my best friend for the first 6 months after my surgery and I carried it with me everywhere I went. You don't even realize how much pressure your chest takes just by doing every day things. Sitting down. Getting up. Getting into and out of bed. Coughing and laughing were the worst.

IMO, being OA means as much as earning Eagle, because it's a recognition of what your fellow Scouts think of you. Ranks and badges are given for individual achievement, but you don't get into OA unless your peers think highly of you, too. Congratulations!

So many women s**t shamed for using birth control for acne, cramps, and to not have a baby. I had to wait until I got to college to go on pills for my monthly excruciating cramps - missed one to two days of school every month beginning when I was 10. What is wrong with people denying medicating for these issues?

Because Endometriosis is pretty much a fictional disease to most doctors... Excruciating cramps are "just normal", and not in anyway almost always attributed to undiagnosed Endo...

I don't know if this works for adult acne, but my mother gave me brewers yeast pills when I was a teenager to prevent acne and it worked beautifully. Then when my own children were teens, at the first sight of acne, I bought big bottles of brewer's yeast and, taking 6 to 8 pills a day, their acne cleared within a few days and stayed gone, as long as they didn't forget to take them every day. My daughter's friends would ask how she kept her skin so clear; I started keeping multiple bottles to give away to them. Some had been seeing dermatologists, with their parents paying a fortune for special meds that weren't working- their skin also cleared up within about 10 days. I'm not sure why it works so well, but maybe because of the high concentration of vitamin B complex?

I wonder if trying a different kind would help? The standard estrogen pill destroys my skin, made my PMDD worse, made my hair oilier, etc. Changed to a progestin and estrogen combination pill (with a slightly extended active pill cycle) and it cleared my skin, regulated my cycle, fixed the PMDD. Some people have more sucess with progestin only pills. I didn’t know at first that there were different hormone options and dosages that could affect people so vastly differently. Kinda crazy.

I LOVE the Special Olympics. The Summer Games were just held in south Florida. Our illustrious governor stated their mask mandate was illegal here, and if they did not drop it, he would fine them more than $20 MILLION dollars. 20 MILLION!!!!! They dropped it, but only because he waited until the day before the opening ceremonies. Need I say more?

Couldn’t hold a job for more than a few months. Now I'm 100% drug-free for 135 days and a manager of McDonalds! In the fall of 2018 I'm on track to fulfill my dream of going to hamburger university in Chicago!

I'm going through something extremely difficult right now and struggling with depressed feeling more than I have in a long while. It's intensely hard. But I do keep noticing how having my two kitties around is helping. One lay on me and purred in bed this morning. They blink at me slowly with their big eyes lol, so when I got up to feed them I finally bothered to get some food for myself too. And they're just super soft!

Sent to you from above. Sent to love you. There's no love like the love of an animal. For me, it's a dog. But, there's just something about that purring and those eyes, oh yeah!

Where I come from it is considered polite to ask the parents of the bride. It is just a formality, no parents in their right mind would say no and no bride-to-be would listen to them. My husband first asked me and then he went to ask my parents' blessing. I imagine this would be a similar situation.

I know this isn’t the place for a political/religious comment, but I feel I have to say: as a lifelong, faithful Christian, I look at this picture, and all I see is LOVE!!! Good for you both, I wish nothing but the very best

We're not rich and occasionally have takeaway delivered when we can afford it and barely have enough to scrape a decent tip together. Anyway, it's pretty warm in the UK today and our delivery guy looked as though he might benefit from having an ice cold Diet Coke. He was more grateful for the drink than for the tip and thanked me seven times as he returned to his car, whilst repeatedly pointing at the sky and wiping his brow. With a huge smile on his face, of course! I actually got the idea from a thread on BP about delivery drivers and small gestures that mean a lot so thanks BP! (I imagine our delivery guy would say thanks several times as well).
