Cats can go down any tree they go up to. They scream and scream until the humans come and get them down. Perfect system, really.

Definitely. I've noped a few rocks because I didn't feel I could come back down safety. It's much harder to see where to put your feet when you're going down.

People expect HR to be able to help them when they keep no evidence and don't have the faintest understanding of their rights. Record everything. Even just jotting down in a notebook the times and a basic outline of events after they happen gives you some form of proof. Use written communications, especially emails, for anything that could come back to bite you or that is outside your contracted role.

Did similar at around 10 or 12 years old. Looped my young bird dog's leash around my bike handlebars. Going down a steep hill (steep back then- when I drive by 30 years later it seems like more of a mild slope!) the predicted happens. Bird dog sees a bird, bird dog goes after bird, kid goes flying over handlebars. 7 chin stitches and $700 later (obvs in good ol America)... Dog was unhurt, did not catch her a bird though.

My miniature pinscher loved chasing squirrels. If he was pulling hard enough, we just let go of the leash, to keep him from straining too hard. We would do this knowing the squirrel would get up the tree before the dog got to the squirrel.

Research shows that fear and anxiety reduce our likelihood of taking risks. However, the exact strength of this relationship is in question. One meta-analytic review from 2020 noticed that scientific studies with clinically anxious samples showed greater risk aversion on average. Furthermore, studies using tangible rewards also showed greater effects of fear on risk aversion. Aside from those, fear seems to have a small to moderate average effect on the willingness to take risks.

Inc. magazine points out that risks can help us grow stronger and become better by challenging us. However, these risks should be calculated, not reckless ones. First, you should try to evaluate the actual risk you’re facing and consider how you’d handle things if they didn’t go as planned. You should also take whatever steps you can to increase your chances of success.

I had a Triumph Spitfire and came to a flooded intersection. Detour was about thirty miles. I got out, and with my ratty sneakers on waded to find the depth. Then, because it was a Triumph Spitfire, and the engine air intakes were up on top of the engine, I drove slowly, and carefully across, where I changed back into my good sneakers, and dried my legs. As I was getting ready to go on, another car came down the hill toward me, and I signaled for them to stop, but no, the car sped up, got halfway across in a terrific spray of water, and stalled. 1972. No cell phones. Miles to service. I drove away.

35 People Who Behaved Stupidly And Quickly Faced The Consequences Of Their Own Actions Don't work full time and go to school full time.

I was like meh. I can do whatever I put my mind to. It broke my brain. I repressed my stress but my brain and body didn't care. Started waking up in middle night with panic attacks thinking I was dying. Got agoraphobia. Places like airports and malls I would get vertigo. Dizzy and lightheaded and feel like I was floating which would trigger what is wrong with me panic attack. Rinse repeat.

I went to dr and he was like you are doing way too much. Stop doing that. And he was right.

So you actually can do too much. And even if you can brute force it, your brain and body will eventually rebel against you.

This is actually important. There's a lot you can do in 12 hours, a whole lot. But if you never take a day off it causes actual physical and psychological damage. Some groups bank on this outcome as a way to break people, so they are tok tired to even consider alternatives.

I did this for 3 degrees - 2 AS, and a BS. It was hell. The worst was actually my first AS as the ol’ ‘however many hours of class you have, double that to account for homework” didn’t compute correctly for a photography degree, especially when it was still film. I has 12 hours of class, and an additional 16-20 hours outside of class foe homework, shoot multiple rolls of film, processing said film, printing X number of pictures, and sometimes matting the pictures. Plus any digital work and printing. And I worked a minimum of 30 hours a week. I basically got 1-2 hours of sleep a night, and hung out at my job a lot so I could reduce travel. Thankfully it was a retail job with a cafe.

Yep, I tried that. Worked Monday thru Friday just under full time, starting my day at 7am to take my kid to school also. Then had to go to school from 545pm to 1045pm. Also had to find time to do homework, housework, and spend time with my kid. So glad my husband was there to take on a lot of the load, and eventually made me quit my job to just focus on school. Especially during my medical coding classes, those were rough.

"You can do anything but not everything", is a much better mantra than "you can do what you want". I, and probably a lot of other people, have a tendency to just look at what others have achieved without realising how many hours and how much effort they have put into it, and hence we wrongfully conclude that we could do that too... and while that is kind of true, we tend to forget that there is also a lot other going on in your lives that we have to attend to, so a very important question to ask yourself, is if you have the hours to do that thing that you want.

As with most things in life, there’s a balance to be found when it comes to your personal safety. On the one hand, your survival is paramount. You want to make sure that you’re as healthy and capable as you can be in order to get the most out of life. In short, you don’t want to be reckless.

On the other hand, you don’t want to go overboard with safety concerns to the point that you’re constantly anxious, hiding in your metaphorical comfort zone, scared to take the opportunities that life keeps throwing at you.

My favorite is the bumper stickers that say something like "Save a life, motorcycles are everywhere." Yeah, because it's your own life you are saving. I am amazed at how poorly motorcyclists drive and how they feel the rules of the road don't apply to them. I drive on the interstate regularly and it's a common occurrence to see a motorcyclist drive right between lanes in bumper-to-bumper traffic just because they can fit.

It’s called lane-splitting - it terrifies me too, but my bf is a motorcycle rider and mechanic and he says there are situations where that actually makes them safer on the road. He also says medical workers tend to call motorcycles “donor-cycles” because of the high fatality rate (a nod to organ donation)

35 People Who Behaved Stupidly And Quickly Faced The Consequences Of Their Own Actions Regular check ups and screenings. Get the damn colonoscopy on schedule, get the skin check yearly. Get your prostate exam or pap smear. If you smoked or are high risk get scans for lung cancer regularly. Talk to your doctor, find out what you should get and when and follow the schedule. I have lung cancer, one of the 20% of people with lung cancer that never smoked, and the difference between the outcomes from stage 1 to stage 4 is literally life and death. Do not wait for symptoms, do not put off getting that weird mole checked.

It seems like as soon as I hit 50, I was invited to all sorts of examinations. Took each and every one seriously and so far, so good. Found out I am diabetic type 2, high blood pressure and slightly high cholesterol...got my meds and have reduced my numbers by half. Was one hell of a wake-up call. Please make sure you get screenings as you age, it may just save your life.

It makes me sad that they only screened you for those issues at 50. Every one of those is something they should evaluate you for on an annual basis from your mid-30s on. My only guess is that you are otherwise very healthy looking because sometimes they don't screen you if you look healthy.

Yea... lack of affordable healthcare in the US is preventing me from that. I am supposed to get yearly MRI's on my head for chronic migraines and a lesion on my brain, but that ain't gonna happen now that I lost Medicaid. I am between making to much money and actually being able to afford insurance.

Amen! Even if the doctors find a problem, I would rather hear, "I'm glad you came to me when you did," instead of, "I wish you had come to me sooner." My cancer was at Stage 3 when it was detected. At Stage 4, I'd probably be in hospice care.

I just had a follow up one done… I had previously tested positive for HPV about six months ago and they performed a cervical biopsy (yay!) that thankfully didn’t show any cancer. I was so nervous about getting retested, but everything was fine this time. Tests or regrets.

Same goes for breast checks and Pap smears! Free for eligible women ages 25-74 in my state. They can save your life. If the doctor who did you last one was horrible, find a different one, go to a women’s clinic, ask for recommendations - just do the damn thing! I work in women’s health and it is incredible to me the number of women who have regularly seen GP’s, obstetricians, antenatal clinical, birthed at hospital and have never had one done or even offered (again, free in my state).

I've been pleading for an all-body skin exam for years. And before you tell me to change doctors, why don't YOU find one within 75 miles of me who takes Medicare.

Ladies, at 50 you need a minimum of a mammogram, pap, colonoscopy and physical. Men, get your PSA numbers checked (for prostate cancer) and a goddamn physical. Most issues have a good chance of being resolved if you catch them soon enough. Just. F*cking. Do it.

Many of us know the basics of staying safe and healthy. Look both ways before crossing the street. Know what to do in case of a fire. Don’t eat food that smells like it’s gone off. Don’t interact with random wild animals that might have God only knows what illnesses. Don’t speed when you’re behind the wheel of a car. Exercise, eat well, get plenty of sleep, have an active social life, and avoid nicotine, alcohol, and chronic stress. The list goes on and on.

The fact of the matter is that there’s only so much we can do to prevent getting hurt. We can prepare to avoid the most common risks. However, we can’t see the future. We can’t predict random accidents that might end up with us getting hurt. But this shouldn’t be a reason to lock yourself away from the world. If anything, it’s a reminder to take care of yourself while also trying to live life to the fullest. With courage and conviction.

My husband and I went through this last year. Our garage door was acting up and I called someone to repair it because I just had a gut feeling my husband would get hurt trying. The repairman took one look and went white as a sheet. The idiots who installed our garage door (and every one on the street) installed one with enough tension to raise and 18 foot tall door... not an 8 foot tall one like we had. The man was incredibly surprised that the door hadn't flown off and that we were both still alive.

Yes it does. However, loud sounds are only one cause, and there is more than one type of tinnitus. There is a form where the sound appears external, caused by external hearing damage; and one where the sound appears internal, caused by illness or stress. I have the latter, stress-induced internal ringing. I had never been near a loud music venue, or ever wore headphones when I got mine, and I don't have any known hearing damage.

Yup. I have no ear abuse in my past but I did have a lot of ear infections when I was little. No idea exactly when it started, it's just one day I realized "Hey, this isn't cicada season and this isn't cicada country." No idea how long I had been tuning out the "cicadas". (I grew up in cicada country, my brain learned to tune them out pretty well.)

Change your definition of “true friends.” I have coworkers I consider friends - we enjoy each others company, go to lunch together, even occasionally hang outside of work, but I know we’d forget about each other if one of us changed jobs. Then I have some real, truly good friends that I’ve met through work and have my back no matter what.

When every person is paid the same wage, back stabbing is much rarer. Every person knows what other people gets, and only things to get a raise is to work a certain amount of years, or getting promotion as a shift manager. Shift managers get paid more, but they have more responsibilities and their job is harder. Most people don't even want to be promoted because of that, and you have to officially apply anyway. Other thing that promotes co-operation is shared goals. We get paid more if we do well. Only making yourself look good does nothing, but working together well gets you more money.

Sometimes they do. But not in the US. I had to travel there with my school choir as part of a competition and a girl had her hair tie ripped out of her hair (with a load of hair still attached) because she forgot to take it off before the scanner. We were school kids, and this was pre-9/11! Then I was too honest and ticked the box on the landing card declaring that I had an object worth over a certain amount (my flute). Caused a right palaver and the guy seemed to think I was saying I was bringing *fruit* into the country, not a *flute*. I had to mime to him what a flute was and he got cross. Eejits.

Pretty sure they do even in the US. Just not all of them. As long as you're not joking about bombs/d***s/terrorism in general you're probably ok. Had a few crack a joke themselves. They're just people, at work. So some of them are having a good day, some a bad day. Some are dour to start with and some are naturally happy.

Texting and driving. I was around 27, driving out of my neighborhood around 3pm and remembered I forgot to text a friend about an assignment for grad school. I looked down and within 5-10 seconds, ran up onto the sidewalk. I was so mortified that I could have killed someone, kids, a woman with a stroller, etc. Never did it again.

It’s been a few years and I still think about that stupid choice that could have ended horribly.

Someone backed one of those enormous mobility scooters into me a while ago. I was standing by the bus stop and was nowhere near her, she had driven up and turned so she could reverse onto her bus when it came - there were no buses anywhere near. She had no mirrors attached, was actually moving pretty quickly and was clearly not looking - she backed into me, smashed my face against the bus stop pole and the back wheel of the scooter rode halfway up my calf before she finally started moving the thing forward. Those things can actually move pretty quick and are really heavy. I had bruising to my face, back and leg, hurt for a while. Would have been worse if I'd not been wearing a backpack I think. All I could think about for a few days though was what if that had been a small child, an elderly person or someone's dog.

Yes, my 90-year old mother has a mobility chair. Luckily, it’s slower than her old scooter was and for some reason has slowed down. She has some dementia and has come close to hitting people and tipping over a curb. She broke her toes going too fast and slammed into a shelf. Fast being about 5 mph. So thanks for the reminder to watch for children when we are out.

So many people think that a phrase like "I think I need a lawyer" will provide them protection. It won't. The request needs to be expressed as a clear and direct statement. Once you have requested a lawyer nothing you say can be legally used against you, but once the police have information they will stop at nothing to find evidence to back it up.

You don't even have to be 'in trouble' for this to be good advice. The Police and lawyers are professionals and understand the significance of what is happening - you aren't and probably don't. Have a lawyer advise you (even if you don't take their advice in the end).

35 People Who Behaved Stupidly And Quickly Faced The Consequences Of Their Own Actions I was in the ocean with my then wife. We'd gotten out to the sand bar, and were just chilling... she was on a beach raft sunning and I was just gently pushing us around. I had my back to the shore, and I saw something go by. it was sofa-sized, and it went by pretty fast. I had this immediate understanding of what was going on... I'm standing in chest deep water in prime shark attack territory. I said, "Hey, let's go in," and started pushing towards shore. it went by between us and the shore. then there were two of them. then three. we still had to cross the ditch, and I was realizing that we really might not make it.

but it turned out to be dolphins, not sharks.

I'm quite a bit more cautious in the ocean now.

People don't seem to understand that this their domain, not ours. I got news for you, the sharks have no problem with shallow water, that is a myth. Have a look at some aerial photos of some beaches some time, and you will see in some places where sharks are swimming right in between the beach goers, and they have no clue.

I have this article from two years ago bookmarked; it's pretty much exactly what you're saying, that we have this idea of some artificial boundary between Us and Nature, but the sharks were there first (before we crashed their populations), and now thanks to environmental protection efforts, rebounding populations will have to be balanced somehow with the popularity of swimming beaches. https://slate.com/technology/2022/09/shark-attacks-new-york-east-coast-reasons-science-risk.html

Sharks don't immediately swim at you with a "let me eat you" mentality. It's more "what are you". They see the shapes of boats and surfboards from below and if this overlaps with shapes they categorize as "food" they tend to get closer to investigate. Dolphins on the other hand are not always as harmless as they are made out to be. They shove other fish around to play with them like toys - and they do the same to humans, which can be really dangerous.

Most of us pass vending machines daily...only a few go in the ocean. Falling out of bed is indeed more likely to kill you ..like 8 billion / amount of ocean goers - times....but here's the deal...you multiply that same amount with your chances once you actually step into that water...

*shrug* Maybe the US will learn something when all their infrastructure and other things that depend on taxes go belly up. I mean, generally a college job will get a person a higher salary which means higher taxes collected for the state, county, and country. With fewer and fewer high paid people in a state and county, that means less and less taxes collected at a base level for the community and also less spending money for people to support community businesses.

That sounds amazing! Here in my part of the US, it's $20,000 - $30,000 a year and that's not even one of the expensive schools! And it doesn't include the cost of books (easily $2000 per year). Plus there are almost no scholarships for a masters degree, which can cost up to $2000 per class depending on the degree. I didn't realize until it was too late that going to college was going to mean being stuck with a high intetest loan until well after my 100th birthday.

Education should be free, this is not a gift or charity, it should be a right for everyone. Higher education is not only for getting a moneymaker career, it's an important part of individual and collective development in society. To know more and different things, to develop critical thinking and to be an active and participative citizen.

Actually, in the US, if you are on permanent disability, SSDI, you can apply for student loan forgiveness. There are certain terms you need to agree to, such as you will not apply for any other student loan, or if you do, you will then have to pay back the forgiveness, or you won't go back to work full-time, but again, if you do, you have to pay back the forgiveness. I had about $70K in loans from Grad School when I became permanently disabled (only 3 years after I finished Grad School). I got it all forgiven, free and clear. That was 13 years ago, and I've never gotten a single letter or phone call about them. I encourage everyone in the USA who is disabled and has student loans to look into this!

All very true, but if you take this route be prepared for the government to take their share IMMEDIATELY! You will be taxed on the amount forgiven as if it were a gift. Approximately 5% of the amount will be due in April with your taxes. And they do not take a payment plan.

Once again I am thankful for how docile and almost friendly our local wasps are here in Germany. They basically just look. They get very close to you, but they are not aggressive. Once my family had breakfast outside and several wasps flew around the food. To have peace while eating, we put a few tiny pieces of bacon on an extra plate away from the rest of the food - and the wasps went for it, cut the bacon into even tinier pieces (they really worked hard on that) and flew off with it. It was almost cute to watch them try to fly off with the bigger pieces at first but drop back down from the weight xD

Protein in the early summer, sugar in the late summer. That's what wasps go for, and what will work as lures. I'm glad you have peaceful wasps. I have a phobia that I've been working on all my life and it makes late summer very difficult for me. So far, this summer doesn't seem too bad so maybe progress is finally being made!

One time lived out in the country. Had a push mower at the time. I was mowing my lawn. Didn't know there was a yellow jacket hive in the ground. Ran over the hive. They came out after me. Got stung. After that when I would mow that area, I would do it real fast. After 3 or 4 times I think I destroyed them because I didn't have any more problems with them.

My husbands aunt lives on a road in the country at the end of which is a ground wasp nest in the middle of a wild blueberry patch. She always reminds people not to step on the nest when they’re picking blueberries. And they’re the best damn blueberries I’ve ever eaten. 1 for the basket, 3 for me

Wasps are a$sholes! If you really wanna mess around, do it right. Wait until dusk when they're all in the nest. Get one of those wasp killer sprays that have like, a 14 foot range. Have an escape route planned. Spray that nest down from like 10 feet away and soak that sucker. Run immediately! Next day, I checked and no wasps. Bagged hive and removed it.

35 People Who Behaved Stupidly And Quickly Faced The Consequences Of Their Own Actions It's a lot easier to get lost in the woods than you think. I wandered away from our campsite a little tipsy because I love looking for mushrooms. I kept going in just a little further until one time when I looked back I couldn't see my wife and friend back at the site. A few big steps to the left to reorient myself, wait... maybe a few steps over in this direction… Oh s**t.

I yelled for help but the sound doesn't carry. The sun was just setting when I went in but it gets dark a lot faster in the thick of the forest. I panicked. I ran. I cursed at myself. I yelled for help over and over. I tried to stay calm but also decided to keep moving because it was getting dark and cold and I knew I was in very deep s**t if I didn't get out before nightfall. I spent about an hour and a half totally lost, the longest 90 minutes of my life. Finally, I heard a truck rumbling in the distance and sprinted towards it. I almost cried when I saw the clearing and popped out on a gravel road 3 km west of our campsite. Looking at a map after, had I gone any other direction it was just forest with no end in sight. My wife and friend said they went in to the forest yelling my name, of course I was probably too far at that point and heard nothing. I don't know what would've happened if that truck hadn't been going for a late evening drive along the service road. I thought I was going to die.

Look up Geraldine Largay. She was an experienced hiker, doing the Appalachian Trail. She leaves the trail and goes into the woods to go to the bathroom, gets disoriented and disappears. They found her body in her tent months later. Terrifying.

When I was like 7 I got lost in the woods while camping and in all of my hatchet and my side of the mountain glory I just decided to build a lean to. Thankfully my dad found me in a half hour but I was absolutely certain that I'd spend the rest of my life in the woods and I was perfectly chill with that. My dad was not chill about my plan.

When I was a kid, my brother and I were hiking through the woods at a state park. We decided to turn back, but I wasn't sure we would find the way back to where the picnic area. He insisted he would get us back ok I wasn't sure, but I saw wires above us, so I just wanted to follow them straight up to the top, where there were buildings, and thus people. I got back quite quickly. My parents asked where my brother was,, he got back a long time after I did. I followed signs of human activity in a straight line, and never left a well-marked trail again.

Also, if you have a compass with you, TRUST it. I got turned around in the Northern Alberta wilderness and thought I knew the way back but the compass disagreed with me. I spent the next 90 minutes going the way I thought was right before smacking myself and trusting the compass. It was only 60 minutes going the right way going back to camp from there.

I'm (64f) a former Search and Rescue K9 handler. We went to schools and taught the class Hug-A-Tree-And-Survive. 2 things to carry when outdoors in a wilderness area. A whistle and a large lawn and leaf trash bag. Whistles are louder than voices and the trash bag makes a good rain poncho and or sleeping bag for emergencies. And do not stay near flowing water. The sound will drown out the rescuer's calls and the sound of engines.

Story from the local newspaper Thunder Bay ONT 1975: man and wife out picking berries in the forest. She looks up and he's GONE. She calls, she sounds the car horn - nothing. She tied a scarf to a bush and drove off in search of help. By this time - it's late fall - it's too late to search or put a chopper up. First light the chopper goes up and the search party arrives. Pilot sees a thin pencil of smoke rising and directs the search party. The husband had seen some lovely berries over there, more over there and . . before he knew it he was lost. Heard the car horn but couldn't figure out which direction to walk. So he hunkered down in the shelter of a rock and a fallen tree, made a fire and ate the berries. He ended up walking over a mile and a half through thick forest away from the track where the car was parked. The lessons learned were 1 - don't do it 2 - if you do then stay put 3 - carry fire lighting equipment (be careful) 4 - carry a loud whistle 5 - did we say don't do it?

35 People Who Behaved Stupidly And Quickly Faced The Consequences Of Their Own Actions Inverted Storm Surge.

This happens as a hurricane approaches a coastline. If you search, you'll find pictures of people walking around in shallow, empty stretches of beach. The storm gets close enough and the low pressure within the eye basically sucks up millions of gallons, pulling it away from shore. It can go for miles sometimes, depending on the strength.

Anyway, that water comes back. With prejudice.

I grew up on the Alabama Gulf Coast. Walked down to the beach as a hurricane was approaching. I was in middle school, and had no idea you couldn't "see" a hurricane the same way you can a tornado. Anyway, the beach was drained entirely. Not knowing any better, I walked out to the end of the public fishing pier that would normally be about 8-9 feet deep. A few minutes passed, I was satisfied with this excursion, so I turned around. About 2/3rds of the way back to the shore, I felt the ground rumble, and I instinctively hauled a*s as fast as I could. I'd say I finally got to about 20 feet from a jetty (rocks piled up to mitigate erosion) and got hit from behind by a wall of water. It actually carried me up and onto the very top of the jetty, and slammed me down. I could feel that my sandals left my feet, and by pure luck, they floated up and gently settled right by my hands where I was holding on to the rocks. The water receded slightly, enough for me to get over the jetty and away from the beach. I was so embarrassed that I never told my mom about it, and snuck into my house to get a shower and changed.

Fast forward to 2017 when I was living on the Florida Gulf Coast, a bunch of people walked down into Tampa Bay right as Hurricane Irma was rolling in. I legit got anxiety watching the footage from the local TV station. Needless to say, I've never gone anywhere near the water ahead of a hurricane again.

Cauliform ear is linked to physical trauma, but the saddle nose can be caused by many other conditions. For example, a saddle nose can be caused by infections like leprosy and syphilis (not to mention covid, though very rarely) and the autoimmune disease relapsing polychondritis.

    Pitbulls.

My family has always had and loved dogs. Thought the breed was fine and just got a bad rep.

My dad brought a puppy home, we had her for 6 years. Loved her, house trained, no behavior issues, we thought.

Came home one day and she had killed our old boxer, who had been with her everyday that we had her and also was so old she had no teeth, and was chewing on her severed leg like a chicken bone.

Never again. And it makes me want to puke when people have their children crawling around with these dogs.

I 100% agree with the OP and Boo. It's all about the risk. If it's your own life you're risking, than sure, get a pit. But do not risk kids/neighbors/delivery workers etc. when the statistics show a definite trend. (Will not change my mind -- my stepdaughters's head was filleted by her mom's "docile" pit. Just stitches in her scalp, and she's not traumatized for life, but could have been so much worse...)

People saying any dog breed can do that, this is not true. It is rare for a dog to kill another dog or attack humans. Pitbulls are notorious for killing other dogs. It is bred into them as they are fighting dogs. Do not ignore this. If you are one of those saying your pitbull is ok because you trained it well, you are delusional.

Pit bulls are involved in about 50% of all dog bite/attack incidents in the USA yearly. The numbers don't lie, yes there are really bad owners out there, but u must also remember that the way these dogs bite is not the same as other dogs and cause massive damage. It is not worth the risk.

To all those saying it can happen with any breed - you are, of course, correct. But the difference is in the power and weight of pitbull breeds. All you have to do is look at the statistics for fatal bites and these breeds consistently outstrip others by a country mile. Do I think well-trained pitbulls can be great companions? Absolutely. But no one apart from the owner can know if their pitbull is well trained (and owners are likely to overestimate their training abilities), and that's the problem when pitbulls are out and about anyway.

Agree. There's just so many dogs that are far less risky. Why get breeds of dog that were specifically bred to fight and attack? Like when's the last time you heard someone killed by a cocker spaniel or Yorkie? Just not worth the risk.

The most especially dangerous thing about a pit bull is its PSI in the bite. It bites with WAY more force than any other breed. I've worked with dogs for 20 years and yes I know there are some sweet pits but a breed I would never trust!

Tens of thousands of innocent animals were destroyed because of this rushed ban. It won't prevent anyone from getting a powerful dog, they'll just move on to the next breed on the list. Vets were overwhelmed with having to euthanize perfectly healthy animals, including entire litters of pups. Since he passing of the Dangerous Dogs Acts around 30 years ago - which is when breed specific legislation was first introduced in the UK - the rate of dog attacks and fatalities has risen year on year. So it clearly isn't working. Not only that, but these dogs now have no chance at normal socialisation or play, so are likely to become frustrated, anxious and fearful, and there's a much higher chance of them reacting aggressively or lashing out as a consequence.

I don't step onto a pedestrian crossing until the cars have actually stopped. I don't expect everyone to either know or obey the rules of the road, or even be aware of their surroundings

I recall when I got hit by a car on a pedestrian crossing, the vehicle illegally went around another vehicle that had stopped at the crossing to let me over, luckily it was going slow enough that I only got bruises. The response that I got afterwards...man, everything but actually listening to what happened. "We're you looking" Well yes, but it passed on the opposite side of the road illegally, I didn't stop in the middle of the road to check if someone was illegally passing. "But that road has tons of zebra crossings" I know, I was hit on one. "You should have seen and heard it coming" I probably would have if the vehicle that had stopped for me wasn't a lorry, I don't have x-ray vision. Do everything right, still get hit, and you get a heckton of victim blaming.

Late at night the pedestrian crosswalks where you have the little green man are the most dangerous. We lost a couple of local teenagers who did the right thing because the driver didn't look and just assumed it went red for no reason and ploughed right over them.

Yep same here! A car didn't stop at a stop sign and hit us into a farmers field I had a fractured pelvis and couldn't move! Especially when I wanted to get out and hurt the person who did it! I had 3 kids in the car! My son! My baby daughter and a baby in my belly! Part of my driving was to look up ahead and scan my speed, mirrors all within a couple seconds! I noticed the car coming from the right wasn't stopping and so did my son! He said there not stopping!!! and I will forever hear him saying that and the sounds of the car hitting us going over 80km!!! The next time I drove I went around the corner maybe 10 seconds and had a 30 mins anxiety attack!!! I still don't drive and if I'm in a car I don't look out the window!! When we stopped I was pissed and just wanted to kill someone so kept trying to get out! Anyways my point was when I go to cross the road I'll press the arrow to lbutton and

I saw a video from Ontario, where a pedestrian was crossing the street. A truck ran the red light, while the pedestrian was still in the crosswalk. What happened next defies explanation. He didn't run or was pushed out of the way. He JUMPED out of the way, then had to jump out of the way of the car that the truck hit. Had he been in Australia, they would have made him an honorary 'roo. His guardian angel probably took the week off.

Oi I took my turn at a 4 way stop sign once & some guy who wanted to run it but couldn't because I was already halfway through the intersection went mental on me & road raged. Started following me, fortunately I was on my way home, we live waaaaaay out in the country with no close neighbors, & my husband was home & a believer in the 2nd amendment. That dumbarse followed me all the way home, I called my husband & he was waiting at the edge of our property with his rifle. We held him for the sheriff & lol he was crying & begging us to let him go towards the end because this would be his 3rd strike. Fk that. But anyway sometimes people will rage on you for no reason at all

I know it sounds silly, but I recommend a rubber chicken. Whenever I feel like road raging, I grab the chicken and shake it at the offending driver. It releases stress and frustration and stops you from making rude gestures that could get you in trouble.

So true - you don’t know what kind of person is in that car next to you. I did a silly thing once: a car cut me off, but then ended up right next to me a few metres further down at the traffic lights. I was singing and being silly with my kids, at the time, and faced the driver and made a silly face in her direction as I sang along to the song (no swearing, middle fingers, waving my fists - just a silly face). This woman then followed me for the next half hour tailgating me, going right in front of me and break checking me, throwing things at my car, swerving into my lane - it was terrifying and I wasn’t able to get away. Never again.

I didn’t have the best roommates I guess. Much happier with me and two cats (although they suck at paying bills and doing dishes too. I forgive them cause they’re cute.)

When I was young and very stupid, I would start a chain saw with a 36in bar by lifting it and dropping it while holding the pull cord; it would start right up and the chain would start up so I had to turn slightly to keep the chain from cutting my leg. I was training to be a feller and did not like bending over the saw. Didn't damage myself or any one else but damn I was stupid back then

My dad worked for the city here in Colorado for 39 years and he was in a high ranger doing tree work after a big storm. Seen his truck pull in the drive way very early from when he usually got home from work. He walked in with his jeans cut into shorts amd he ended up almost taking his leg off with a chainsaw. He had I believe like 100 stitches and my dad being who he is wasn't even concerned about the injury he was so mad he wore his favorite jeans to work that day lol that's all he was worried about.

My uncle was cutting trees on his property, he put the chainsaw down on the ground and somehow tripped and fell onto it. He put his hand out to stop himself and the saw lacerated his hand so bad he almost lost it. He recovered fine, but he was very lucky he wasn't hurt worse!

Edit: one thing I have never really explained to anyone is how big of a personal victory it was for me when I regained the ability to workout hard and push myself. the experience i described below took a huge amount of recovery physically and psychologically and when I got back to a healthy state of going hard, not being afraid of my heart getting up into the cardio zones, etc. was like regrowing a cutoff limb and wining the lottery and coming back from the darkest inner fears and I don't know if I could ever communicate how big a deal it was for me.

    Medical concerns.

That bump on my testicle I just wanted to ignore? I didn't. And it was a tumor that I caught early.

The terrible pain in my abdomen causing me to throw up even though I didn't have any food in me? I didn't wait for it to go away. I went to an urgent care clinic and they sent me to an ER where they found that my appendix was necrotic and ready to burst.

Ignoring medical warning signs and waiting for them to pass is not being "tough". Get yourself checked out.

35 People Who Behaved Stupidly And Quickly Faced The Consequences Of Their Own Actions Appendixes!!

My mother thought it was just stomach cramps. She holed herself up for days until finally my dad begged her to go to the doctor. They told her if she hadn’t listened to him and waited one more day it could have killed her.

A year or so later mine burst while stretching so I thought it was just a pulled muscle. I waited over a week before going to the ER. They said the ONLY reason I didn’t die was because by some miraculous event that they had never witnessed before, my body sent a swarm of white blood cells to form a ball around the pus. I should have been dead and I was only 13 years old.

This happened to me, too. My parents didn't believe me - I had appendicitis for a year. It burst while I was watching Neighbours aged 10. Incredible pain, blacking out pain. I begged the doctors to cut me open to have a look and find what looked wrong because they weren't sure. Had sepsis afterwards and very nearly died. Luckily, a specialist surgeon flew back from visiting family in Greece to operate first thing after a child who was badly injured in a car accident was moved to a different hospital - Christmas 1991. Thank you, Greek surgeon. And I hope to god that the child from the car accident made a full recovery.

A friend's daughter was complaining about stomach pains, but commonly had tummy aches, so her mom didn't think anything of it. But three days later it was still going on, so they went to the hospital and found her appendix had ruptured and he immune system did roughly the same thing. Her mother was so surprised and sorry that she didn't believe her daughter at first.

Got that beat. 2012, presented at the ER with self-diagnosed appendicitis. (I was an EMT. Doctor was impressed, actually.) But during surgery to remove it, they found a golf-ball sized tumor that was Stage III colon cancer. Formed atop my appendix and blocked it, prompting the appendicitis. Took out a third of my colon during the procedure, but "surgically cured" it. Still did six months of chemo. Twelve years later, still clean!

Yup. I used to line dry all my laundry. A wasp got into a pair of jeans. My hip took the first strike, and I had 5 or 6 subsequent stings down my leg as I hurriedly got the jeans off. Then I had to fight the thing off as it buzzed around me. It was 40 years ago and the memory is still vivid. Don't mess with wasps or hornets.

It seems so crazy to me that you have to work out what you owe and pay it yourself. In the UK, tax is taken from our wages and self-employed people are given very strict rules. In the US, people are expected to calculate the tax the owe before they are considered old enough to drink alcohol.

35 People Who Behaved Stupidly And Quickly Faced The Consequences Of Their Own Actions Weathermen.

Heard one on TV say, "If you're within the sound of my voice, get to your tornado place NOW!"

I was a little jaded due to the many times I'd heard this before. Still, I told my son to get in the hallway then went outside to get our Beagles. And I saw the f*****g thing. A 400m wide F4 coming down our road. I got in the hallway with just a couple big couch cushions, pulled my son into my lap, hunched over him, and held the pillows over us.

He was unhurt. I had a dislocated shoulder with torn ligaments, tendons and muscle, splintered ball, torn rotator cuff, and so on. I was in so much pain from that once all the pieces stopped moving that I didn't even realize I had hundreds of pieces of rock, splinters and glass embedded in my skin, mainly in my back. Not a single thing even scratched my son.

Had I gotten moving the moment he said that on the TV, we would have been sandwiched between two matresses. We lived, both of us, both dogs and our cat. It seems like we were all huddled under those two cushions. One of the dogs had a single glass shard in his beck left side. It fell out when he started walking. Me, I had pieces of stuff being pushed out of my skin for the next month.

The house? Nothing much left. Of a $290k house it took $273k to rebuild it. The foundation and much of the framing were OK.

Edit: This was the Enterprise, AL tornado on March 1, 2007. There were 8 students killed at the high school and one elderly woman just down the road from the school. 50+ were injured from this in the area.

Our daughter was at the school. It took 4-5 hours to find her. She was badly traumatized from the experience, but luckily, only light injuries. This experience affected our family mentally for years, if not a lifetime. There are so many others who are as well.

We did not have a shelter and did not put one in. Basements are not common for that area. I was stationed at Ft Rucker with two years to go until retirement. Tornadoes of that kind were not common to that area of the US. With climate change, they are now.

Insurance paid for most of the repairs and replacement of our house and stuff. "Non-recoverable depreciation" took a big chunk out of our savings, though. This is something so few people realize will financially affect them in a large loss like this.

We currently live in Florida. We've been through a few hurricanes turned tropical storms, but not a direct hit. We care for my mother in law who is 83 and has dementia. Once she passes, we are moving, likely to Tennesse near our daughter. I would take a tornado over a hurricane. We were 18 miles west of the damage path of Hurricane Michael. What we saw of the damage from that during recovery efforts was staggering. I have been to war in the Middle East. While those experiences helped me process that one, the sheer destruction visited upon Florida was mind-numbing. Two years ago, we spent 8 hours in a strong tropical storm with 70mph winds and gusts to 90. The tornado lasted less than two minutes from when I first saw it to when I was stepping outside to survey the area. Except for the minor intrusion of water from our pool, we didn't have a single bit of flooding from the tornado. With my combat experience, very little scares me these days. There was surprisingly little fear during the tornado considering. Most of it came after while trying to find our daughter. That tropical storm? The length of time, the wind and the amount of rain? That was scary.

My injuries were more extensive than just the shoulder and cuts/bruises. Due to a TBI from an explosion in Iraq, I suffered a secondary TBI from the tornado as well. My shoulder was put back in place by EMT's in the area, and surgery didn't happen until after we moved back in. Too much to do. The TBI wasn't recognized or treated until after we had moved back in. Honestly, I knew I had another TBI, but my family needed me to be strong for them. Especially our kids. Once things settled down, I started getting regular headaches. Next thing you know, I'm at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta for four months and also two months of hyperbaric treatments in New Orleans.

We are all doing well these days. When we are all together, we often talk about that day. It is as much a part of our family history as any other significant event.

    Thanks for the awards!

The water table is too close to the surface to have basements in these areas (I live in coastal Mississippi). Interior rooms are about the best we can do unless we build some kind of concrete safe room.

Just come back from Orlando and we were in the edge of hurricane Debby a couple of weeks ago. Where we were there was a lot of wind and rain. We did get the emergency alert on our phones to get into a basement or shelter, we didn't have either of those so we just stayed in our 4th floor apartment and by 4pm it had eased up.

35 People Who Behaved Stupidly And Quickly Faced The Consequences Of Their Own Actions Oral health. Brush your damn teeth or you’ll sorely regret it later

Edit: brushing is often times not enough, I brushed regularly and still got cavities in between my teeth from not flossing. At least once a day do a full routine of flossing, brushing, tongue scraper, and mouthwash. I usually just brush in the morning and do the full shabang at night. Would’ve saved me thousands of dollars if I had started this earlier.

People keep talking about brushing teeth and flossing - sure this is important and you should do it but the main root cause for oral problems is sugar consumption and diet. these control the types of bacteria in your mouth - eating a bad diet will let bad bacteria reproduce and damage your teeth. Seriously think about this and do it.

I unfortunately can relate to this. Was suïcidal pre-teens and then went through my teens knowingly suffering from severe depression. I knew I needed help but absolutely refused to speak out and seek help for several reasons. Convinced myself that I can fix myself. Come university years and I was actively suicïdal again. Then suffered a sort of mental breakdown in my final year last year. Finally started meds and then therapy this year and I’ve now been officially diagnosed with a total of at least 5 issues (depression, CPTSD, etc) and it’s an enormous struggle trying to fix it all. It’s not easy to take the leap to get help, but if it’s even remotely possible, please do!

I had an extremely close friend for years and they were always SOO nice to me, went above and beyond all the time and I felt so appreciated and loved as a friend. This was years mind you too. One thing that was red flag that I ignored and I mentioned to my partner that was concerning was that this friend was really horrible to people they didn’t like or felt somehow wronged or slighted by. I remember saying I just need to make sure I’m never in their bad side. Well, long story short, always judge someone’s character to include how they treat people even if they don’t necessarily like them. If they talk badly, spread rumors, etc about others they will likely at some time do it to you.

Edit to add: I also co-owned a business with this “best friend” and so my second advice would be DONT ever go into business with a friend. Even if they have no red flags! Don’t do it!

Sleep apnea. Had it my whole life and didn’t get it fixed until I was 31. The first night I used a CPAP machine I woke up and felt like I was touched by Jesus. I cannot believe how s****y I felt for my whole life and didn’t even know that everyone else didn’t feel that way.

My whole personality changed once I got my CPAP. Went from angry all the time and struggling with simple tasks and feeling overwhelmed, to chill, happy and wondering why I was finding it hard to cope as everything was easy. Don't underestimate sleep deprivation.

If you snore or suspect sleep apnea, ask your primary care provider for a referral to a sleep center. It could literally save your life and or sanity.

I'm pretty sure that I lost two jobs because of sleep apnea. I'd never even heard of it until my Doctor just casually asked if I slept well. Gave him the wrong answer, and he sent me off for the sleep test. VERY educational; changed my whole life.

Flipping the bird at a driver. It's been 40 years since I tried. On that particular adventure I was on a 4-lane road, 2 in each direction (Rte 29 through Virginia). I was going maybe 5 mph over the speed limit to pass a slow car when a car came up on my tail. The road wasn't limited access and had a lot of blind driveways. Going more than 55 really wasn't safe. The highway, named Dixie Highway, has also been referred to as Dixie Die-Way.

Anyway, I passed the slow car as quickly as I could safely do so then pulled over to the right as soon as I was safely in front of the slow vehicle. The guy who'd been riding my tail passed me at a high rate of speed and I held up the third finger as he passed. Ooops. The driver obviously saw it as he pulled in front of me the instant he was past me and jammed on his brakes. I was so relieved that I didn't lose control of the car. Since then I avoid anything that might induce a road rage incident. The satisfaction of displaying your annoyance from the comfort of your car isn't worth the consequences.

Oh man, when I was a young new driver I accidentally cut someone off and felt so bad - he switched lanes and came up beside me and gave me the biggest most sarcastic smile and thumbs up. I FELT SO GUILTY 😂 it would have been better if he’d given me the finger. It was like he was saying “I’m not mad, just disappointed at your stupidity,” which I deserved. Hahaha

But I think everyone has thought in one point or other that they don't need them because there's only a little cutting to do. You might survive few times, but there will be a moment when you cut yourself. And then you realise again why you should always wear the damn gloves.

I now choose much more carefully as to what I dismantle.

Don’t let laptop lithium batteries go fully dead. You run a serious risk of the forbidden capris sun. We had a battery go from fine to exploding in our kitchen sink two hours later. Didn’t realize the battery had hit rock bottom, and trying to charge it caused it to short and swell. Happened at midnight, and it was only by chance the laptop was close enough to us we heard the plastic popping as the battery swelled up, and could get it to a sink where it wouldn’t burn down the house. Still came close, as the flames were over 3 feet high.

Edit; I have been proctored on my word use- because I am still alive, it seems that I was not “electrocuted”; rather, I was “shocked”. It was, despite the wording, still really intense. When it happened, I tried to drop the phone and it was like, stuck to my hand. It took several attempts of me trying to THROW the phone to break the connection between the circuit and myself.

Heat in the house during winter.

Although I still blame the governments “Only heat the rooms you use!” Guidance during the cost of living crisis, I completely took for granted how my house was different from my apartment when it came to keeping it heated during winter. That my house is much older and draughtier compared to the small apartment in the shared building.

Resulting in a frozen pipe and - ultimately - a burst pipe.

Homeowners - it’s better to just grit your teeth and pay the large gas/heating bills during winter. Water can do a LOT of damage to a property.

Edit: while it’s still fresh in my mind: make sure you all know where your stop-c**k valves are in your property!!

Not to mention the climate in those unheated rooms can suffer. Especially in a lot of older, poorly insulated houses, when it gets too cold in a room, condense will form on the windows, and run down from there into the window ledge. If that is made of wood, it can cause issues with rot, or the room can become infected with poisonous fungi, creating a health risk. So just lower the temperature a reasonable amount (10C or so) instead of turning the heat of completely.

That is not true of rice - it should always be cooled immediately after cooking if you're not going to eat it all as it can contain something (bacteria/virus - can't remember) that will really multiply fast in warm conditions.

It's actually kind of hard to get sprayed by a Skunk unless it is young. The younger ones are still dumb and can't controll themselves like the older ones. I have a family of skunks e ery year at my house and they're kind of like cats I can get close enough to pet them since they eat the cat food I put out for the strays but never once has one gotten even a little puffed out and angry with me lol

Park. Had a "friend" slam my car into park while we were cruising down interstate! Terrifying, but thankfully no injuries.

Would that be like slamming on the brakes at speed or more like gear slipping out?

It's vaguely like slamming into a brick wall, except the brick is inside your transmission. Depending on how fast you are going, it could do anything from causing mild damage to your transmission to literally ripping the entire drivetrain out of your vehicle. Plus you will likely immediately lose steering control.

Not checking online if a skin product causes acne. Had to endure 5+ months of horrible acne and then scarring after years of clear skin for using a specific face sunscreen. Too much money/time spent on fixing it. Never again.

If you’re having acne issues you should do everything you can to educate yourself on ingredients and what works for your skin - you can really damage your skin if you blindly keep using the same products even though you’re experiencing severe acne

I know a lot of these replies are serious, so I'll take it one step further: pre-ordering AAA games. Never again. Been clean for seven years now.
