Friend of ours had a similar experience. Her name is Michele but goes by Mitch and she used to be some kind of manager at at oilfield. Guy comes in and asks her to make him coffee as he has a meeting with Mitch. She calmly makes him coffee, then sits down at her desk and says, Hi, I'm Mitch. Always love hearing that story.

This. Typical. I'm the DirOps of a law firm that has this happen more than I care to admit. I usually welcome high-stakes clients personally when they come in, and I'm often treated like a secretary by older white men--but even delivery people and labor contractors do this (if I happen to be close by and step in to help our administrative staff). So now I've gotten to the point where I have to introduce myself using my title, which makes me feel self-conscious bc it feels like I'm being haughty--especially when what I REALLY want to say is: STOP BEING A MISOGYNISTIC TWAT, YOU DANK AŘSE." Because it's not cool to treat ANY OF MY STAFF like that.
I served my boss his coffee with about a 1/4 cup of salt. He never asked me again.
I only wish that she had quietly pulled a Sam Walton, gone and gotten the coffee, brought it back, served him, asked if he needed anything else, then walked up to the podium to start the meeting. There are stories of him doing stuff like this all the time.

I was in a department store and a lady ask me to reach an Item on a higher shelf, so I did. She then asked me the price of an item, I told her that for that, I had to ask the store staff. She was so embarrassed and apologetic. If my mother had asked a man to help her reach an Item, I would expect that they would help.

This happens to me from time to time. I'm a blonde-haired, friendly female who is also the COO of a law firm, and I sometimes meet other attorneys and prospective employees out in the lobby when they have an appointment with me. Despite dressing very professionally (I have a dress code I expect my entire staff to adhere to M-Th, then we are all more casual on Fridays), I found that I was being mistaken as a receptionist often enough that I started going out to meet people as a test. Seeing how they treat my administrators (or ME, thinking I'm "just" an administrator) not only tells me everything I need to know about these people, it also gives me an opportunity to throw them off a bit once they find out I'm the bïtch they need something from and they just blew it with me. My literature teacher for 4th grade never called on me to answer questions. I was confused because I was the most advanced reader in that class. I talked to her after class one day, asking why she never called on me. She said “Sorry kiddo, but I think you would just confuse the other kids with how you pronounce words.” This was because I had a lisp back then and pronounced every word that had double o’s or just one o with an r.
I used to work at an airport, manager for the company that handled the restaurants. One Saturday my assistant manager and myself were inventory counting a Caribou Coffee and this sill looking skinny white guy walks up. Plaid short only the top button fastened, wife beater, baggy jeans, the ball cap with the razor straight bill and a lot of bling. I looked at said in a low voice ‘Look at this Vanilla Ice wanna be MFer’. Then a guy comes RUNNING across the terminal and is shaking homeboy’s hand and gushing over him. It WAS Vanilla Ice, who had played a show the night before. He was actually really cool too.

My literature teacher for 4th grade never called on me to answer questions. I was confused because I was the most advanced reader in that class. I talked to her after class one day, asking why she never called on me. She said “Sorry kiddo, but I think you would just confuse the other kids with how you pronounce words.” This was because I had a lisp back then and pronounced every word that had double o’s or just one o with an r.
I used to work at an airport, manager for the company that handled the restaurants. One Saturday my assistant manager and myself were inventory counting a Caribou Coffee and this sill looking skinny white guy walks up. Plaid short only the top button fastened, wife beater, baggy jeans, the ball cap with the razor straight bill and a lot of bling. I looked at said in a low voice ‘Look at this Vanilla Ice wanna be MFer’. Then a guy comes RUNNING across the terminal and is shaking homeboy’s hand and gushing over him. It WAS Vanilla Ice, who had played a show the night before. He was actually really cool too.
Unpopular opinion I'm sure, but my goodness I am so sick of hearing about covid arguments. We get it. People will never agree on something that shouldnt have anyone arguing in the first place and everyone wants to be the big dog on top and show somebody else up. Great. Cool. People suck, pets are life. Can we move on now?
My friend had a good one like this. They (my friend's pronoun) was arbitrarily labelled as a 'white male' at birth, and they was trying to go to an event once, and the organizer said at the entrance: 'Sorry, this is only for black women.' So they replies: 'I IDENTIFY as a black woman!' You should have seen how surprised the organizer looked!
