Photographer Spends Eternity Waiting For Museum Visitors To Match Artworks And The Result Is Worth The Wait
Most of us were bored at some museum at least once in our lives - except this guy! France-based photographer Stefan Draschan always keeps himself entertained at famous art galleries with his creative photography ideas.
One of those projects is “People matching famous paintings”. Although at first Draschan’s cool pictures seem perfectly staged, the secret behind them is patience. The photographer enjoys visiting different museums mostly in Paris, Vienna, and Berlin where he waits for visitors to suddenly match with a piece of classical art in a funny way. The result of his bright idea is these humorous and unique pictures of unexpected harmony between people and the classical paintings they’re facing. It’s usually the outfits that match the art, but there are also people who match with the paintings because of their hairstyles and colors, or even beards.
Scroll down to see this ongoing project for yourself and beware – Stefan Draschan might be somewhere out there “hunting” for you!ng” for you!

Can I draw your attention to . . . . I did this book in 2014 pb-snapsho...28-png.jpg
wonderful! but you know they are two entirely different artistic perspectives. Just awesome!
Load More Replies...I think that it's not all a coincidence that these people were drawn to these pieces of art. A woman that bought a shirt because she loves that particular shade of blue would also gravitate to the painting with the blue flowers or the man who loves bold patterns would stop to admire a piece with bold patterns. I love this series, very cool to look at!!
did he wait for weeks or just hire some people and dress them and get this project done in 2 days? Sorry, I've worked a long time in advertising.
I am not in advertising, just a little jaded. I too think it's staged.
Load More Replies...Is that an Art? By the way, the Woman's dress seems more attractive than that 'art'
I love this. Wouldn't it be wonderful to wrap yourself in a painting?
This is just beautiful , favorite artist and beautiful dress and the hat
If you scroll up so you can't see the bottom of the painting frame, she looks like she's actually part of the painting.
I took a similar photo at l’Orangerie in Paris with a different entrancing young woman in a different coordinating dress last spring. I too marveled at the symmetry. Very fun!
I love how the seam in the baseboard mimics the walking stick in the painting.
I don't know where these photos are taken, but the way this woman dresses is fairly common in The Netherlands. She's a 'type'. (Middle-aged, overweight, short hair, an abundance of fabric in the clothes)
Load More Replies...man, the painting is just like his self-portrait with a different haircut.
i look at this and think of all the people that blame our modern processed food for our health problems. Clearly, genetics have always mattered most.
I don't know where these photos are taken, but the way this woman dresses is fairly common in The Netherlands. She's a 'type'. (Middle-aged, overweight, short hair, an abundance of fabric in the clothes) So the odds look pretty big to me.
Load More Replies...Even the shadow under the painting is like the two blues in her sweatshirt.
stary, stary night - paint your colours blue and grey, look out on a summer's day .... with eyes
Stary, stary night - paint your colours blue and grey ..........
I thought about this too but might be really a coinsidence too
Load More Replies...Looks like she escaped from the painting and is trying to decide whether or not to go back.
This is by Fra Lippo Lippi at the gemäldegalerie in Berlin.

I wonder if some of them are looking at the art thinking, "there's something I really like about this..."
"Lady, you're looking at a courtain, the art gallery is that way"
I could see him knowing the museum intimately, then recognizing someone coming in who matches one of the paintings, and following them around until they get there.
A photo by a photographer who photographed another photographer watching an artwork.
Now we wait for the photographer who captured the photographer of this photo ;)
Load More Replies...Why would you not include the name of the painting artist, and museum? Its tacky not to!
Yes, and the painting needs a little yellow in it also
Load More Replies...It looks like she pulled the missing bits off to make her shirt! :-)
Looks like she leaned against the painting and some of it stuck to her.
"Is a woman in here. Act normal." *They don't seem to handle it*
Load More Replies...She's defending her dissertation- the two guys on the right are going to be a hard sell...
The look from the subjects in the painting " Shouldn't you be in here?"
I recall Phill Jupitus describing the people in a picture like this as 'The So Stolid Crew' in his book Good Morning Nantwich! The viewer is like the host of the committee.
Maybe it's not a painting but an framed relief from an ancient villa ?
It's titled "Spring", by Erich Heckel. Not sure what museum this is in though.
Load More Replies...i love these!! i hope the viewers involved were contacted after pic was taken, and maybe sent a copy?
"Hey. Hey. *giggles* C'mon, look." "I'm not looking at your penis, Dave."
"Hey, sweetheart. Can't you see we were made for each other?"
That's one painting that needs to be escaped from!!

Interesting how "because my scarf match the colour of the sofa" make us think those are the same girl.
And her neck and her haircut... not just the scarf...
Load More Replies...This one looks like an extension of an endless loop, like what you get with two mirrors facing each other.
Like on the sleeve of Pink Floyd's Ummagumma for instance?
Load More Replies...Truth is stranger than fiction, but some of these are a tad hard to believe they aren’t staged (or at least... “hey you, would you stand over HERE for a minute for a quick pic”) type situation.
I don't see the correlation between the viewer and the painting, but I love this Vermeer painting!
Hahaha! Yup! I was going to post, "Bernie, is that you?" but ya beat me to it. :D
Load More Replies...This looks like a Van Eyke painting. Wonder if the lady is related to the lady in the painting
My dad was a photographer and part of being a good one is PATIENCE! If you wait long enough, and are ready for what you want to happen, it will. But...you MUST be patient!

One of these people is not like the others, one of these people just doesn't belong ....
Why do people like to wear clothes that drag on the ground like that? Not only is it a pain to walk like that without stepping on your clothes, but the clothes will act like a broom, and sweep up all the 'yuck' on the floor! The color is cool, tho!
All of these people have way cooler clothes than I do. And I think that's a woman, because it looks like there has to be a pretty high pair of heels underneath in order to achieve those proportions.
maybe it's just the perspective of the camera shot - but does anyone else think these people are WAY too close to the paintings they're looking at?
I have been to many museums and I always get quite close to see brushstrokes, etc. There are docents there watching your every move.
Load More Replies...Interesting. This painting is titled Eichbaum im Schnee ('Oak tree in the snow') by Caspar David Friedrich 1829. Displayed in the Alte Nationalgalerie - same gallery where another painting in this collection is displayed. (The bleak landscape painting, with four white haired women peering into.)
That’s a glitch in the digital file, it prolly happened when he put a filter on it.
Load More Replies...I want to know what the man in the painting, is whispering, in the other guys ear!
I like how the person on the painting appear to whisper to the viewer whose head is bowed in 'reverence'.
This looks exactly like my beautiful stylish Grandma Cicotello... She had red hair and loved wearing quilted dress coats. Love love love this one!!
The painting is so interesting and deep that she sleept with the head on the wall. Or maybe she feels the energetic vibrations.
Brings tears to my eyes as I remember how perfect Jesus, God incarnate went to hell to pay for my sins and the sins of the world. His resurrection gives all of us liberty through belief. So grateful
As am I, but the vast majority of people who see this believe it to be SO EDGY. Yet nothing could be further from the truth when you're living in a world that is in open rebellion against its Creator.
Load More Replies...Prophetic t-shirt matches what happened after Jesus died-he descended into hell.
There is no repeated pattern between the clothes and the painting... Yet they just looks like a set.
Not a painting- that is Islamic tile and the configuration is what you would typically see in an Iranian mosque or other typically Iranian or other Gulf state mosques.

I feel ya', girl. Or maybe-"So that's where all my spoons went!"
Load More Replies...Pardon my very limited knowledge of art here, but what exactly is this art??
It's colour field painting. Rothko believed that certain colours and combinations could induce different moods and emotions, possibly even meditative states. Many of his paintings are larger, so when you stand in front of them you feel enveloped by the colour.
Load More Replies...As an artist, I hate lazy art like this. =3= Some spend so much time and effort on their art and get no recognition, while others become famous for the canvas they used to wipe their brushes on.
You really need to see Mark Rothko's paintings in person to appreciate them. Most are quite large and can fill your field of view. And the paint isn't just slapped on; he worked on each painting for months and applied the paint in thin layers to build up a rich, deep color. I've tried to paint this way myself and it's definitely harder than it looks. Read up on Rothko and go visit his art in a museum before you dismiss it. The way the color impacts your eye, the effects at the transition from one color to another, the feelings you get as you look at the paintings. Rothko was not lazy by any means.
Load More Replies...People actually paid for this s****y art? I don't give a hoop even he is a famous painter! Still not art to me is just few color doesn't a complete painting period.
"Stand closer so the lines on your shoulders looks like they're extending into the painting."
She looks like a dancer, her posture and back muscles, also her stance.
And it's actually the dress I wore when I went to my first art museum.
Load More Replies...I upvoted you. I think I get what your saying. Her top matches the bust and the khakis match the stand the bust is on
Load More Replies...The bow has evolved over the centuries, just like the instruments they play. In certain parts of the world, the bows were shorter and the wood curved opposite to modern violins (among other differences). The shape of the bow affects its idiomatic way of articulating phrases.
Load More Replies...you have a bold sense of commentary. Inept, but bold.
Load More Replies...This young lady appears to have put on shorts or jeans over her swimsuit to come here and look at some art, and I'll bet if you turn her around, you'll see nothing to arouse a frenzy there either. But she has clearly failed to realise that you, Linda Gulley, are the Sheriff here. BTW I'm waving all my obscene parts at you while typing this :)
I think that is a very judgemental statement. This photo is not about her attire, rather the similarities between her artistic tattoo and the piece and the wall. Statements like that perpetuate the hate culture that is way too pervasive.
Load More Replies...What, and cover up that glorious ink that goes so well with the artwork she's looking at? No way! Besides, if she had, she wouldn't be in this collection, and that would be a shame. This is a good picture!
Load More Replies...Lo'vyn, it's not just the painting that the artist is "matching"; it's the whole person and contact within which the painting sits. Your criticism throughout this article appears to come from a basis of - not very much at all. Like someone else said, why not google and get back to us?
Lo’vyn, her hair matches the sand, her curls suggest the palm fronds and her bow is similar to the small shadow under the lady on the right. Just because you don’t see the similarity doesn’t mean others of us aren’t more observant.
Lol and I think she's enjoying watching her crew work ;)
Load More Replies...Lo'vyn, I hope you are just ignoring these rude people...I don't know what their issue is. :(
Load More Replies...Yes, girls, you are in a place of great art. But please, check your phones for something you might have missed!
A lot of museums have apps that give more info about the paintings and artists...before you judge them...
Load More Replies...Superlative! That script just above the middle back of the singlet is the Tiben script of the old Indian mantra om ma ni pad me hum. I have it on my wrist. ET-tat-day...a99823.jpg
He serves to lead the eyes into the painting... Yes... He's part of the art.
Not part of anything. I'm sure there were other pictures that were better matches.
Load More Replies...The faces on her top would be a better match with some Chinese painting...
Heehee, you wrote "songpants". I like that. :) (It's 'Lederhosen'.)
Load More Replies...Are those supposed to be camouflaged arm bands at his shirtsleeves openings? I'm confused about his attire, German Boy Scout or nah?
No, his hair is untamed like the foliage. The coat's fur resembles the frame.
@Joey... Extension, echoes, momentum. These are jargons unfamiliar to people who don't do art. Can't blame him for misinterpreting my comments.
Load More Replies...I would have cropped this differently. r bum takes all the attention
Lady, you're killing me with your commenting. You focus too much on only one aspect of every picture. If you took the entire scene into consideration, you might be able to fully appreciate the photography. Not being mean, just being blunt with a smidge of advice. Peace!
Load More Replies...Before anyone says anything, he's probably checking the app that the art gallery has to learn more.
LOL, that would be interesting to have on a portable game system.

It appears to be a collar, like the old "sailor suit" collars that you put children in.
Load More Replies...It looks like the hat is part of the painting and that she is sticking her head inside the painting in order to try the hat on.
Load More Replies...it just.. fits! The photographer actually has an amazing eye for this.
I believe the painting is Don Quixote and Sancho Panza by Honore Daumier...her hat fits in the painting and her shoulders cover the breadth of his horse.
Off-- All of these posts make me wanna go to museums, and meet nice haired and dressed girls..ready for -1 :D
The photographer just used his baldness to create the lightest spot for focus. 😂
lmao! People really don't seem to like your comments. Happy you don't let them tell you what to do. It's been entertaining till the end. Never seen so much dislike over something so trivial.
Load More Replies...The last few are really a s-t-r-e-t-c-h! Some look contrived, but overall, fairly entertaining!
I don't see it in this one. Disappointing finally when all that came before were pretty incredible. Still really enjoyed all these captures. Wonderful work!
remember that they are in "more votes" order so it gets boring at the end !!

Load More Replies...I'm wondering if they're actually staged, at least some of them. Like he sees someone come into the room he's waiting in, and so he asks them to stand in front while he takes the photo. Potentially he waits at the entrance of the gallery and then guides people to the appropriate painting - even better hit rate then.
I'm wondering the same thing. Like maybe it started as a coincidence, but then he started staging.
