Once you cringe over [insert a wish-wash subject of debate] or the anti-vaxxers and get that sweet aftertaste from the sheer absurdity, you want a second hit. ‘Cause cringe is real and everyone loves it, from me, you, to 1.2 million members of the “Cringetopia” subreddit.
And there’s an infinite source of things to recoil from in laughter and embarrassment because the world, like the people in it, and like the subreddit itself, is colorful. As the community’s description says: “In this moment, I am euphoric. Not because of any phony god's blessing. I know it's not relevant to the point but... I don't understand the initial comment. Are they saying that white cant speak Spanish because they are incapable, or that the can't because they are not allowed. Or are they alluding to the fact that some cultures struggle with making some sounds (such as rolling R's in Spanish, or clicking the tongue in various languages in Africa)?
To find out more about this insanely popular community, Bored Panda reached out to the “Cringetopia” subreddit's moderator Fjallmadur, who was happy to share some insights.
“We started this subreddit to break away from the politics and hate that CringeAnarchy was becoming saturated with. /u/IAmMrPositive founded this subreddit and brought along me and a few other CringeAnarchy moderators who were tired of the mess that place had become,” the moderator recalled.
Fjallmadur added: “He basically made it a full-time job promoting this place in relevant subreddits and building this community from the ground up while telling people that this subreddit was going to be a place for everyone to come together, put politics aside, and just cringe at the people doing really weird and awkward stuff that they post online.” Today, it has turned into the one of the most regularly active subreddits on the entire site.

Do people not realise that “skin” is literally the wrapping paper of your body. It’s nothing more than that. The pigmentation was decided by evolution as it it light or dark depending on what side of the world your ancestors lived given hotter countries have people with darker skin so the sun can’t burn them. Likewise colder countries people have lighter skin as the sun isn’t there often

I suspect that the 'porcelain empress' may have racist reasons for opposing inter-racial adoption, but there are some things to be aware of. First, if you are going to adopt a kid from a different culture/race, you need to preserve their connection to their culture of origin and prepare for them to have different needs. For a very basic example, a black child is likely to have much curlier hair than a white person is used to dealing with, so their parents will have to learn how to take care of it properly. The child may also have to deal with racism on an axis their parents don't have to. The parents should be prepared to support and protect their child when this happens. There's also cases of unscrupulous international adoption agencies taking children out of foster care (some of these children have loving parents who cannot take care of them at this time, and plan to take them out of care once they're back on their feet). It's not as simple as draumbouy makes it out to be.

Ughhhhhh I hate that so many people are against transracial adoption. It's true that when a white family adopts children of color, it is especially important for them to understand their white privilege first and to work really hard to understand the experiences of people who are not white, but that is no reason to NOT adopt children that need a loving home.

This is a fake story, trying to make CNN look bad - Dr. Dipo Awojide is a senior lecturer at a Nottingham (UK) business school. Somebody made up that twitter handle and use the same picture, CNN is using in their report. Unfortunately, this is the way how they try to discredit news sources.

I wondered if this was a fake story. A quick search revealed a handful click-bait websites -- nothing legit. With a little further investigation (don't call it 'research') I found Dr. Dipo Awojide's tweet at: https://twitter.com/ogbenidipo/status/1348569484018257925?s=21 On January 11 he wrote: I made a joke last night, tweet crossed to American Twitter, 10,000 RT's and 40,000 likes. A very few people didn't get the joke. Had to delete it. I didn't like the attention". I haven't read all of the comments, but I didn't see anyone who called BS. Due to the lack of critical thinking, it seemed like time to make my 1st post.

When asked what the term “Cringetopia” refers to, the moderator explained that it’s exactly what it looks like, “an amalgamation of the words 'cringe' and 'utopia.'” Moreover, “It's a place where any cringe that doesn't break our relatively lax community rules or Reddit sitewide rules is allowed.”
The moderator of the community sees cringe as inherently subjective. “What makes one person cringe, another person may think is entirely normal,” he said and continued that “My take on it is that we've all done stupid stuff that we look back on and cringe about, and looking at these people is a good way to relive that feeling, even if it's not the exact situation that we've been in ourselves.”

As much of a flaming liberal as I am, I feel that this whole "cultural appropriation" concept is utter garbage. This reminds me of the 'controversy' (I dare call it stupidity) about the author they found to translate Amanda Gorman's poem in the Netherlands. The woman they picked (and whom Amanda Gorman was absolutely fine with) is a poet and an author and white, and some journalist (I think?) with black skin was angry that they "couldn't find a Black woman" to translate and - and this is the part where it gets not just stupid but honestly insulting - "the white author wouldn't be able to express the feelings behind the poem of a poet (Amanda) who has always lived in a world that defines her by skin-color" Basically, the journalist said that the white poet wouldn't understand the poem because she was never Black. That just makes me so angry! If we really want equality, we need to understand that we are all human, and if we can understand the language and aren't emotionally constipated, we very much understand emotions! It ended with the white author dropping the project due to the shitstorm

If Dani Jo is an Asian American, then she reminds me of some Turkish people in Germany. Those are more Turkish then the actual Turkish people living in Turkey. Do you know what I mean? And although there are “some bad apples in the bunch,” according to the moderator, “we're not about bullying or spreading hate at all; it's all just for entertainment and understanding other people at the end of the day.”
Turns out, the subreddit has a bit of a bad rep from other communities because “they feel like we're bullying people,” but Fjallmadur stressed the fact that their community is exactly the opposite. “Our community is all-inclusive, as you can see from our wonderful mod team, and I feel like we do a pretty good job as a whole to enjoy the light-hearted picking while avoiding actually hurting anyone,” they concluded.

My baby sister had cancer. She will bite your head of if anyone saying things like "battling cancer", "defeat cancer" etcetera. Because it implies you are a good person if you get well, while you are weak and "not good enough" if you do not get healthy again. Oh, she is also a nurse who have worked with lots and lots of cancer patients thru the years. It is not a stance she has come to lightly.

Y’all chill!!! This is from the egg-kid’s point of view, and very emotional, of course it’s skewed to make you side with him, it’s biased! For all we know, his parents said eat your breakfast two or three times. Their “threat” was to restrict his access to one website, and that was enough for him to surrender and cannibalize his fellow egg-kin. He said he felt like throwing up, not that he did. His bigger complaint is that his parents don’t understand him, and can’t accept him for who he is, and is constantly JUDGING them, not mistreating them. My niece is very active in ComicCon and tells me the problem is that 8 or 9 of them will pitch in to afford 1 hotel room. No one bathes, no one cleans up anything. There are a lot of things to do at these conventions and lots of costume changes, no time, no time to sleep, taking shifts taking naps in 2 beds and according to her " a lot of people who have "issues" and aren't exactly the cleanest to begin with" or take medication or smoke too many cigs or weed and smell like dumpsters. She's also come home with ringworm and head lice several times from sharing costume articles and them all using the same 3 towels for 4 days. Gross doesn't describe it.

I read about this or something similar where the boy's name is Hunter and the school told his parents they would have to change his name if they wanted him to attend there. Here's how schools should handle transgender students: 1. Every bathroom has a stall without gaps. 2. Locker rooms have changing rooms. 3. Treat people how they want to be treated. 4. Teach people to mind their own d***n business and only worry about what's under their own clothes - not someone else's. I can personally say I don't know if I've met anyone who is transgender because I really don't care - whatever you identify with is how I will perceive you - enough said.

it was posted on r/witchcraft, which is a subset of Reddit for people to talk about anything related to witchcraft. that's why this kid was asking for "curses". i'm pretty sure anime gore just means anime that is very gory, bloody, disturbing, etc. it's cringe because the kid's basically saying "oh, you're calling me cringe because i said i hate everyone and want to curse them? wrong! i'm not cringe, i watch gory anime and listen to heavy metal all day! that proves i am a badass™ and way better than you." I take issue with the idea of a baby's consent here. All decisions for a baby is against their knowledge and consent. No one consents to being born. That's not problematic, that's literally how babies work. If a toddler says they don't want to change diapers ever again, letting them decide that would be abuse. Just take care of babies and don't scar them and they'll be fine. Consent is a super important topic but it really means something else when it comes to babies.

Plus, either way, a decision has to be made. Enabling the child to hear is a choice, but so is permitting the child to remain deaf. Also, we don't know if the family can sign. There are no deaf people in my family, but we signed with our children when they were babies/toddlers because some children need a visual component to language to help them transition to speech.

Meet the deaf community. It's complicated. I agree with you for that matter. The biggest issue with getting an implant later in life is adjusting to the added stream of information. A baby's job is non stop doing that, so they would adjust very quickly.

The kid can choose to have the cochlear implant removed, or take out their hearing aids once they reach the age of consent, if they wish to live without hearing. But cochlear implants are most successful installed before a certain age, as the brain has to learn to process sounds. Imagine growing up deaf, in a hearing family, and learning that your parents chose not to give you the chance to hear.

My son was born Deaf. He had his first CI at 11 months and his second implanted at 22 months. His father and I are both hearing. We both learned sign language, as did our daughter. K is now 14, he made the choice last year to take off the external part of his CI and live in silence. We made a choice when he was an infant that he was unable to, he is fully capable of making that choice now and has.

This is actually a big debate in deaf culture. Are you taking away from a dead baby's experience of its culture and community if you give them CIs (cochlear implants)? Sure, as an adult you'll be able to decide if you want to take them out, but that doesn't take away from the fact that that person was raised hearing, probably didn't learn sign, and has no connections to other deaf people.

Ninety percent of deaf babies are born to hearing parents, and only 75% of those parents learn sign to communicate with their child. That 25% doesn't mean they opted for CIs either, they might just deal with the deaf baby treating as though its hearing and vocally communicating, even though they know the child can not hear them.

This one makes me so sad because he could’ve been a professional violinist in an orchestra or something. I listened to his cover of some Trisha Paytas song (very random) and it was SO GOOD. His issues seem to stem from a desperation for attention. Like a child acting out it doesn't matter if the attention they get is good or bad as long as they get it. If gaining weight and eating large quantities of food whiled smearing ranch dressing all over thei face is what puts eyes of them that seems to be what's most important. There was a point in my life where I was pushing 400 lbs but I was never shoveling food in my face hand over fist and smearing my mouth with dipping sauces. It perpetuates a stereotype that people who carry excess fat have a total lack of control around food. When it is more like I got the double Cheeseburger instead of a single and an extra refill of soda rather than a sugar free drink drawn out across 365 days a year for a decade straight.

Boomer humour is always terrible, but c'mon they didn't even try here. CD? DVD? How the f**k would you even put documents on those?? They are used for music and video. And they're old. No one has used them since the blockbuster days

You could burn a file storage CD or DVD, but it would be highly impractical because computers these days do not all have optical drives and they are both larger and more fragile than a flash drive.

Random thought: what happened to Krazy Kanuck? Haven't seen him comment for a while.

Or OGs like Hans, John L., etc if you go that far back. I still see a lot of our "popular" pandas out and about occasionally, but their comments are much less frequent. Part of it is probably just changes in their lives, but I feel like the more frequent argumentative/clickbait-y type posts have been large factors. I think in its' golden age BP was 99% pet/animal lists, comics, and art, which meant people had more opportunity to make funny and entertaining comments, but more recently it's been getting bogged down by political content and more "bad" stuff (eg more posts like "50 times people experienced evil neighbors" vs feel good stuff like "50 times strangers helped people"). Also a lot more beauty content, which isn't necessarily bad, but causes a lot of negativity for people with discussions about upsetting beauty standards. I find it kinda sad really, because our pandas are getting into more debates in the comments and we've lost a lot of the unity and good vibes :(
