50 Times People Wanted To Appear Edgy And Stand Out From “The Norm” But Ended Up Embarrassing Themselves (New Pics)
As Andrea F. Polard, Psy.D., wonderfully put it, arrogance is weaponized pride. Unlike healthy pride — which is an appropriate celebration of personal or communal accomplishment — it pushes people away.
The subreddit r/NotLikeTheOtherGirls is an excellent example of this. The online community is dedicated to shaming people who are trying to be unique by defining themselves outside of "the norm." Instead of proving how unique they are, these folks simply make a fool of themselves, earning ridicule instead of respect.
We've covered r/NotLikeTheOtherGirls before here and here, but with 785K members, the subreddit constantly offers new content, so it's about time we release an update. Continue scrolling and check out its most popular recent posts.

Moms Are More Important
Lady, other people work very hard too. Not just you. Get to the back of the line.
Of all of the things that diminish the quality of interpersonal relationships, few, if any, are as damaging as arrogance.
To be arrogant is to appropriate for yourself, presumptuously; to claim without right and to be overly convinced of your own importance.
One of the unfortunate consequences of arrogance is that people who have this trait often have no awareness of it and when confronted by feedback that suggests that they may be grabbing more ground than they are entitled to, often become highly defensive and even combative, which ironically demonstrates that they probably are.

The Only Correct ‘Not Like Other Girls’
So in an attempt to learn how to deal with these people, let's take a look at what the before mentioned doctor of psychology, Andrea Polard, suggests doing to stay calm and collected while still standing strong and confidently against arrogance in your life.
"Be compassionate, but don't try to fix the person," Polard wrote. "The need for superiority is deeply rooted and ranges from low self-esteem to an unquenchable thirst for praise to a lack of empathy for those who are or appear to be less accomplished. Only the arrogant person can confront such a problem with sustained effort. On the other hand, and as always, it brings peace to your heart and potentially to the situation if you can have compassion for the unhappiness of others."

Next, accept the fact that the other indeed feels superior. Try to realize that there is nothing you can do in the future or have done in the past to make them arrogant.
"He or she suffers from a problem that goes far beyond you. Most importantly, understand that accepting feelings of superiority in another person does not mean that you must feel inferior in turn. Look at it as a game that you can refuse to play."

"Communicate directly," Polard added. "Sometimes it is advisable to tell the other person how she/he came across. It is good to remind an arrogant person that no one knows that much, considering life’s mysteries, and that no one can claim absolute truth. As long as it does not harm you later, do not suppress yourself."
You can use disarming sentences such as, "Forgive me for interrupting, but...", or "Maybe you did not mean to sound arrogant/hurt my feelings/come across as if you are 100 percent right, but..."
If arrogance is an aberration, you can also ask if anything negative happened to them that day.

"Involve a mediator or a greater number of people," Polard said. "Sometimes direct communication backfires, which is why you might want to include a third party to help diffuse the situation."
"Without being vindictive, stand up for yourself under the guidance of someone else. Seek the support you need. Sometimes you might have to find allies and stand together against a particularly harmful arrogant person or persons."

Well, it is cool to be able to do repairs on your own. Probably wouldn't make an Instagram post about it, but still.
What's she fixing it with? Cleaning supplies and a flashlight that matches her work skort?
Guessing she took the cleaning supplies out from under the sink to get to the problem. That's where they're normally stored after all
Load More Replies...The first thing that crossed my mind is that she would get more elbow room if she opened the other cabinet door.
Good point! Our plumbers don’t lie on their backs to fix things. I could be remembering incorrectly.
Load More Replies...Oh shoot. I forgot to post when l repaired the toilet. Won't forget next time.
Why do women punch out at other women? I'll never understand this level of insecurity and attention -seeking. There's room for all of us with all of our different interests and skills.
To me it sounds more like an advert for a dating site. Pick me! I can do plumbing!
Load More Replies...This is for show. No one in their right mind gets underneath the pipework (presumably to unblock a sink). A facefull of sludge is the least of the likely issues
idk if I had that body, i’d be taking all sorts of weird pictures 🤷🏼♀️but i’m chubby so no worries on that front.
Some of the most beautiful women I know are chubby and their bodies are lovely (yes, I know not all bodies are lovely, but this isn't the only great body type.)
Load More Replies...no tools displayed so is she cleaning under there or am i missing the point?
I mean... good for her, but there are very, very few things more disgusting than a clogged sink. I'd always try to make someone else unclog it, lol. Give me a power drill or a saw and I'm game, though.
I'm fem presenting and it blows people's minds when I talk about all this s**t I fix around my house. Most of the men I know don't even know how to replace a valve cover gasket, much less how to diagnose and fix an EVAP problem 🤷🏻. I post pictures because I'm proud of how much I can get done WITHOUT a man.
I took pipe off bathroom sink to get the massive amount of hair that ended up in there but didn't see making post about it😐 it's broke you fix it big deal lol
Lol. Fixing the sink is one of the easiest home repairs. Not something to brag about.
Have fun when the water ends up in your face. It's a sink, not a car, you don't need to have your face in there.
This is both the girls/dudes fault. She wants to be sexy while being a plumber, he wants to brag to his friends. So he couldn't fix it himself could he?? Very unmanly. Feel sorry for him.
Dunno how she's gonna fix the sink wit cleaning supplies but...... 🤷♀️
By lying on a rug... With cleaning products... And a torch? Thats where I was going wrong with my plunger, mole grips, adjustable wrench, bucket, plastic sheet, hydrochloric acid based drain cleaner, gloves and eye protection... Silly me... Still, never LOOKED THAT GOOD THO
Shoot...I forgot to take a picture and post it when I replaced my faucet. To let everyone know how special and unique and not girly I am...or something.
Gotta love how she doesn't have any tools lying about or towels to wipe her hands off. That s**t is nasty, and getting it on anything is gross. And how you gonna repair anything without the proper tools? Go one by one?
I've done a lot of sink repairs, but i can't remember laying like that. All the gunk and black water that would waterboard Me 🏃🏾♀️🙅🏾♀️
Isn't the OP saying instead of asking her boyfriend to fix the sink, she hires a sexy handywoman? She doesn't say she is fixing it herself, but I guess you can take it two ways.
What gets me is at this point, it's just derivative to point out that not all women engage exclusively in hyper feminine activities. I work on my car but I'm not making posts about it when I do. I'm an adult woman who understands that I don't have to define myself by out dated gender norms. Ya know, like 90% of adult women who stopped playing this kinda BS sometime around high school.
My neighbors in college used to call me Mrs Bob Villa. I could fix just about anything in our apartment building. (Dad taught us life skills)
why are they using cleaning supplies not the tools that you need to use to you know... fix the sink?
I, like most females, can understand when a sink is blocked how best to unblock it.
Watch as I pose sexily while draining this sink basin...Oh, look, my hand is stuck. Can you help me???
Nothing to brag about, lots of women do ALL of the diy around the home and they don't take dumb a** pics for social media
I feel like I grew up on another planet when I see things like this...I never saw repairs and such as more of a masculine trait...just something that needed to be done by whoever knew how.
Aahahaha homeowners do this every day, let me now see you go into basement and or crawlspace when sump pump goes and your septic lines are plugged and your gripping support beams and the saw so the s**t clogged pipes don't empty out on your chest the moment you cut semi way through the pipe.ahah dude where are your tools.
"... Me: wait let me put on my favorite casual-sexy outfit and try out a few poses while I pretend to be fixing something, did you get the pic, did you??? Ok, so now let's call a plumber then..."
Looks to me like she's just looking for the reset button on the garbage disposal.
i guess arching your back to stick out your boobs and A$$ for all those instagram pics payed off because that sink repair bend you are doing causes most people's backs to spasm for a week
Nothing wrong with women one way or the other. We all have our own skills. I'm not handy, but I can help you ace that interview and speak in front of crowds, yes I can!
She Reads The Books Guys !
So Cool
You can also reduce the harm by setting limits. "We cannot always choose with whom we work and must deal with, but we can set limits," the psychologist highlighted.
"Before meeting with an arrogant person, decide how much time you will spend together and what subjects you will or will not speak about. Be disciplined and resist biting any hooks that would prolong the allotted time or cover more territory. If you cannot keep your distance despite great effort, maybe it is time to plan to sever the ties. Nobody should remain silent and endure abuse, whether in a personal or professional relationship."

The important thing to remember is to stay mindful. Whatever you decide to do, attempt it deliberately, thoughtfully, and with as much love as possible.
"Arrogant people cause others to lose their temper and become their worst self. Observe your reactions with self-compassion and your long-term interest in mind. Play the game of your life instead of trying to fit into someone else's," Polard said.
So always stay true to yourself and... don't forget to shame them on r/NotLikeTheOtherGirls.

The sad thing about "not like other girls" is that they buy into the myth that women who aren't emulating males are some sort of anathema. Also, I think since women are underrepresented in history books, etc., any woman not fitting the "stereotype" seems an exception, when in fact individual tastes, skills, and talents are common in all women, because women are people. And interests aren't gendered. 😒
The title says "cringy people". Seems to just be about s******g on girls.
Load More Replies...Don’t mind teenagers posting this stuff, it’s cringey but puberty is a b***h and it IS very difficult to find your place in society, especially with social media pressure added to it. I’m more worried about adults, parents even, posting this type of c**p. Regardless of gender btw.
I couldn't finish it either, but it was a nice reminder to check myself. I don't want to be like people who aren't like other people.
Load More Replies...I'M not like OTHER guys. I never work out, I easily become happy or sad (tears!), and I'd rather practice cooking than watch sports games. Which is to say I'm too lazy to work on my physical health, never properly worked on my mental health, and sports just confuse me. Lol, I should really work on those first three things though, boo sports.

A lot of pick me girls here. Thankfully l know a lot of nice, well adjusted women who try to navigate this world helping each other and l love them dearly.
Honestly I think women are being fooled into believing all women are the same because of the lack of diversity in media of female characters. My whole childhood it was just hot, sexy love interests who I saw everywhere. The damsel in distress who doesn't want to get her nails dirty. Oh but she can also take a guy down twice her size. Us women have to create our own narratives, realize that there are just as many different male characters in this world as there are female characters. Females can also be geeky, adventurous, funny, brave, strong, leaders, tortured souls, edgy, cute etc. and they don't all have to be hot. And I love that we're getting a much more diverse set of personalities now than before. The fact is women are unique. So a lot of them are going to feel like they don't fit into this tiny box media has put women in. Hence, "not like the other girls".
I'm not like other girls. I'm so edgy. I just had buffalo chicken pasta for breakfast without taking heartburn medicine (the regret will arise soon)
A lot of these are just basically "different strokes for different folks." I've never fit in either, but I don't think that makes me special. That attitude just comes off as overcompensation for low self-esteem. Accept who you are, no matter what. But don't make a big deal out of the differences.
I have an engineering degree. I worked as sys admin for 20 years for a multinational company. Stopped wearing makeup and only wore pants to work years ago. (You try crawling under desks in a skirt and still be decent.) I'm not unique, but still in the minority.
This entire post is just insulting women. As if men are perfect. I hate this patriarchal bullsh*t.
This might sound kind of weird, but the girl I sit next to in my math class makes me feel like I'm in one of those "There are two types of girls" things. She's like the opposite of me physically. But she's super nice, were not friends but we get a long and I'll sometimes help her with her math work.
You kno I always found these things so cringe. But if you look deeper a lot if it is just pple wanting to individualize themselves, not wanting g to appear to be " the same" . Its actually a part of growing up for girls. Little harder to speak of grown azz women
I’m not like other girls, I’m a trash goblin who dips in and out of the Void :). On a more serious note, these people are going through the phase where they see the stereotype of women in the media and want to be different. I hit that stage at 13 and tried to be “gothic” and “mysterious”
I was like this when I was little too... turns out I'm just non-binary and these posts are really bringing back dysphoric memories
