Someone Asks “What’s A Profession That Deserves Every Bit Of Its Hatred?” And 43 People Don’t Hold Back
Some professions get a lot of hate, but it stops the moment people need their help. Others, however, can't seem to shake their bad reputation.
Reddit user Spektakles882 asked the internet which jobs are universally disliked for all the good reasons, and the answers came fast.
Due to fake appearances, exploitative tendencies, a lack of added value, or other factors, many careers were nailed to the shaming board, with questions about whether society would be worse off without them altogether.

When I lived in the US I moved a lot. Two of the weirdest cities I ever lived in were full of conservative Christian fundamentalists, although I managed to last in each state for 5 to 8 years (Tulsa, OK --> Oral Roberts and Lynchburg, Virginia --> Jerry Falwell). We sent an autistic child from a facility in the Tulsa area to Oral Roberts medical school and he came back with a diagnosis of "affected by demons." Oral Roberts had exposés where people would send them their last dollar to be prayed over and secret cameras showed them slicing open the envelopes, pulling out the checks, and throwing the letters in the dumpsters unread. They wouldn't allow men with facial hair walk across campus. The c**p they poured out 24/7 was enough to make a grown man cry.
I live in a Tulsa suburb, and the ORU campus is proof positive that all the money in the world can't buy good taste

In all but two countries (India and Singapore), people are more likely to see politicians as untrustworthy, while in Argentina, only 6% say politicians should be trusted.

This should be illegal. There are protections for child actors, but these kids fall through the cracks

Any "beauty" pageant for any age sends the wrong message.
However, the survey revealed there's a broader global distrust in the government. For example, government ministers are also among the least trusted (only 20% say they are trustworthy), and only 28% of respondents trust civil servants.
That being said, politicians have some rivals for the least trustworthy title.
Only 15% of Ipsos respondents say they trust social media influencers (a category that was also frequently mentioned in this Reddit discussion).
Influencers. Have met a few in the wild and behind closed doors, with friends, exes, partners, etc they are atrocious. And many have caused irreparable damage to the values of society all to gain more followers, views, money, etc. Seen a few that travel around making money off of tragedies like storms, m*****s, kidnappings, etc like some tragedy pimps. Exactly why are people giving them air space and then complaining about them? Just unfollow them. The sky will not fall on your head.

@KatSaidWhat, I think you’re thinking about brothels, like the ones in Nevada. I understand those places are regulated and inspected, the places are kept squeaky clean and hygienic, the girls get regular check ups and shots, and there are strict rules of conduct and behavior for clients. The girls working there are doing so by choice, and can leave whenever they want. They also have the right to refuse a client for any reason, and the management cannot make them take the refused client. Nothing by force or coercion, all by the girls’ choice. All because the local government legalized the brothels, which then introduced the regulations and fair working conditions—-one example of government stepping in, when they realize they have to give in because the “business” will go on, whether it’s legal or illegal, and making it legal means they can make the conditions a whole lot better for the workers, thereby making a potentially horrible situation much much better for all. That’s an example of the kind of protection someone in that line of work should have. Is that what you were thinking of when you made your comment?
Why do you keep calling them girls? I believe that they must be of legal age to do this work legally and therefore they are women. Male (men) prostitutes are also allowed in Nevada.

Lobbyists. They get rich convincing leaders to ignore everyone else.
The Onion did a satire piece about the American public hiring their own lobbyist. I think it's actually not a bad idea
Let’s call the majority of “lobbying” what it actually is—-BRIBERY. Plain and simple. Now, some lobbyists are not bribing anyone, they just go and plead their organization’s case to what is hopefully the friendly ear of a sympathetic politician who can help. That’s true lobbying, and in my mind, perfectly fine. But when lobbying starts to include favors, gifts, payments, and other “incentives”, then it crosses the line into bribery and attempts to buy a politician to do their organization’s bidding, even if it is illegal. That’s true lobbying is the lobbying that should stop, and any elected official who takes those bribes should be removed from office and run out of town on a rail. They should also be barred from running for ANY elected office, and I mean they can’t even run for dogcatcher in a tiny town in the boondocks.

In the late 60's early 70's, manufacturing made up 34% of the all american jobs, today it's less than 9%, and the economy continues to loose 300,000 jobs to outsourcing every year. Likewise, after the immigration boom at the turn of the century, everyone realized that unchecked expansion wasn't sustainable. Resources, homes, jobs, schools everything is finite, so they placed limits....which stood until the 1965 loophole that effectively undid those restrictions....and the consequences were so apparent, that closing that loophole, getting immigration under control became a bipartisan issue, for decades. Who opposed these restrictions? Corporations, and their lobbyists....who wanted, and continue to want to keep the steady slow of cheap labor moving through, because that keeps wages lower for everyone else too. 16 years since the minimum wage was raised. Home buyers/flippers. Those predatory vultures will hound you nonstop. I sold my last house over 3 years ago, and I still get calls about selling it. If I have time, I waste some of their before calling them terrible things and threatening them with the do not call stuff, that they aren't afraid of in the least.
Telemarketers in general. Total waste of time, and I feel for the lonely people they hook. I pray that I'm never in that position of loneliness where talking to those scumbags seems preferable.
Over the years, I've received text messages asking if I'm interested in selling "my" house, providing a very incorrect address and name. Early on, I replied telling them they had the wrong number. Nowadays, I've been tempted to say "yes" and send them over to the house. Common sense prevailed since I'm sure they'd finally do their due diligence if I messed with them.
I've seen others reply with pictures of a burning house. 😊
Load More Replies...Flippers have caused massive problems in the housing market for people wanting to buy their first home to fix up themselves.
It should be required that you have to physically live in a house you buy for a minimum of 6 months or 1 year BEFORE you can sell it. That would take away all incentives to flip a house, as flippers prefer to buy, fix, and sell before their first mortgage payment on it would come due. Making them occupy it for several months, thereby having to pay 6 to 12 mortgage payments would absolutely k**l the flipping trade, once and for all. Same goes for the wealthy buying houses as nothing but investments (or for money laundering purposes), with no intention of even renting them out, then letting them sit vacant. Getting rid of artificial inflators of home prices and home-hoarding practices might give home prices a chance to settle and even out to a reasonable level. Now, there could be an exception made for vacation homes in resort areas, but even that would need regulating so the flippers and hoarders can’t buy up all that real estate, and end up driving up prices and driving down the availability of housing in those places too.

At least the masks and lack of proper identification and, most importantly, valid, signed warrants. The funeral industry. Exploiting vulnerable people by guilting them into spending an exorbitant amount to dispose of an empty shell.
My grandmother passed away 3 weeks ago and the funeral home was really nice with us. They were attentive and respectful and the Master of Ceremony apparently (I refused to attend the ceremony so I wouldn't know myself) was really kind and respected what my mother and aunt asked him to do and say. Maybe we got lucky but I'm still thankful for how they behaved towards us.
This is one where there is either great or awful, but no middle. A funeral home that is genuinely compassionate is a godsend, especially if it was an unexpected death or one without prior planning. There are absolutely terrible funeral homes, but that doesn't negate the good ones.
when i die, i want to be put in one of those biodegradable coffins (or, f**k it, no coffin, just bury me and let me rot) and the funeral will be in the woods behind my grandparent's house
theres more to burying a body than disposing a shell tho, you have to spend time and resources making the body presentable for a funeral - like stopping it from rotting away since some funerals can be a week or so after the person as already passed. the reason most corpses look peaceful and grand is because of make up. it shouldnt force someone into debt more but theres a lot more behind the scenes work than youd realize
Not even that, several cases of them just stockpiling the bodies and saving on fuel or other expenses.
I've heard those stories too! How horrifying! Dealing with a family members death is hard enough but to find out their body was just tossed in a pile of others would be downright traumatizing for most people.

Debt collectors. If you think i had money to pay it don’t you think i would’ve done it already. Just be harassing you over some money that they have yo buy in the first place. Then you have the nerve to try and sue take money from my check like have some sympathy.
They do suck but hear me out. One benefit is they buy those debts for pennies to the dollar, so shows how much the original debtor cares about the money but holding you hostage, the benefit is many times you can negotiate a lower payoff, because the debt collector still makes a profit. Edit: to add from comments below this helps restore your score.
Load More Replies...Sure, they are leeches. But here it's also a way to split the bill in several payments. For example, I took my bird to some very expansive appointments I knew I couldn't actually afford. The vet didn't do payment plans. The way I made it around it was to tell them to send it directly to debt collectors - who always seem to accept payment plans. You follow the plan and you got no further issues.
If a debt goes into collections, the original wrote it off, got a tax break on it and more than likely got an insurance check. It's then sold to a collection agency for pennies on the dollar. a $1000 note was probably bought for $100. So, insurance, write off plus that $100 the original company made. Now the collection agency who paid the $100 comes after you for the full $1000 plus interest! Hell naw! And if you ignore them, they sell it off to another debt collector. Funny, all 3 companies now put 3 negative marks on your credit report for the same debt. Supposedly illegal but if you don't know your rights...
In the US for-profit rehab industry there is a totally legal position called "marketers". They connect the rehabs with clients. They are paid a commision for this work. Because of the nature of the industry and the clients they serve, this creates a wealth of opportunities for straight up human trafficking.
At one point I was poached from 1 rehab by a marketer from another who offered to get me h**h. I was still in early sobriety and he offered me a couch and free d***s. While there he propositioned me for a chance to earn 1300$ (a cut of his commission for sending me) for going to a 30 day program in another state.
By the end of my 30 days, I had watched other people he had sent return to the rehab a week after "graduating" They told me he refused to give them cash but offered to get them high and convinced them to do it all over again.
Knowing I would never see the money, I chose not to return to that state and eventually got myself sober without the help of the rehab industry.
Honestly the profit motive shouldn't be anywhere near this industry. I wrote an entire article about my experience once but the friend who published it online stopped maintaining the website. Perhaps I'll revisit it.
This is almost comparable to private prisons offering cash incentives to people in the legal system. US is very broken.
Honestly, I feel like this is worse. You're taking people who are supposed to be getting better and breaking them again. The extremely annoying kiosk workers at the mall who will shove samples in your face or tell you you're ugly so that you'll try their product. Like yo. I'm just here to get my dose of mall food and go to the book store, my guy. Your $600 product isn't gonna make me less ugly. Genetics did that.
Having become a mall walker, I've come to respect their hustle, in an odd sort of way 😀 Some of them are really amazing in getting people to stop. Even though they know we're not potential customers, many are still quite polite and friendly. But there was a time when we'd cross over to the other side of the promenade to avoid them.
Taxidermists
They can get stuffed!
Pretty sure this is a joke? I don't like taxidermy myself and it will never be welcome as decor in my home, but if my neighbor wants to mount an elk head who am I to say no? I have no ill feelings towards the taxidermist themselves.
Realtors
As someone who is currently selling my house by owner I get 100 calls a day from these people trying to sell it for me. No thanks I don’t need to pay you $11,250 to unlock the door to my house for someone.
Unfortunately most people do not realize they don’t need a realtor to buy a house either so I’m forced to deal with buying agents as well.
It’s literally a club of retired people making way too much money on peoples laziness.
For first time buyers/sellers having someone to guide you through the process can be extremely beneficial. However, that's if you get a good realtor who actually explains the process. The one I had was terrible and wish I'd never hired but he was recommended by my grandpa because they go to the same church...so yeah.
I'm only half joking, but President. And not just as a jab at our current, preposterous one. Being the President of the United States is the worst gig going.
The most mild mannered, decent one is probably leaving with some war crimes.
Half the country hates you. Forever.
I can't even estimate how much of the world hates you, but it ain't looking good.
And I gotta live at work? I'm agreeing to move, TWICE, for this?
The f**k outta here.
at this point the president is just a mouth-piece for their respective political party and all they do is make people mad, so lets just have a turtle as president, they can meet all the requirements, they can't speak human, and they can't use twitter
There should seriously be a set of requirements for candidates. For instance, they should have X amount of foreign relations experience, they should have to be a licensed attorney, they should have to have a masters degree from a REAL university not a diploma mill that also bears their name. There are requirements for every job you ever apply for in life and the office of the presidency should be no different. Just because some knucklehead can write their names doesn't qualify them for the job.
Used car sales or any other slimy sales types.
Forewarned is forearmed. Research the model you like, there's this thing called the internet that will give you all complaints/reliability of a particular model. And for pete's sake have a loan approved BEFORE you shop, just to compare. I have had one dealer that found me financing for a cheaper rate, but better to be prepped.
Prison officer.
I was never detained. But from what I study and from my conversations with the people involved (on both sides) it's kind of inevitable that they act like monsters. It's kind of a consequence of the environment and human nature.
Yeah....i'm not saying that unhinged a******s just itching to exert control over someone else don't exist in the DOC....but most are the same as everyone else. You give back what you get....and i don't hold much sympathy for murders, serial killers, peophiles, abusers, thieves, human traffickers and the PoS who sell d***s to 10/11/12/13/14 year olds. They don't see a problem victimizing others? Let them get exactly what they gave.
Clippers and Reaction Videos.

The police, especially British police in 2025. Instead of tackling real crime, they arrest people for hurt feelings on social media.
The "Blue Wall' mentality especially. "He's one of us" (even if he r*p*d her), "She is one of the best" even if she helped human traffickers stay under the radar. "We put our lives in the line for random citizens every day. We shouldn't be punished for getting something extra out of it." Disgusting!
I am immediately pissed off if I see an officer with his pants bloused into his jump boots like some special forces reject.
