Hardwood floors are replaceable. Intricate art like that is not.

It's such a shame we're all expected to live in a way that won't "devalue" our properties. If I spend 20 years living somewhere, do I need to keep it like a display home for some random "next owner" or do I get to enjoy my space the way that makes ME happy?

Maybe this floor was already badly damaged and they decided to salvage it by making something beautyfull out of it. How can you juge without knowing. I think it's lovely.

Not really. I went to the IG page where it stated: a “rug” carved directly into a utility oak floor. Utility grade flooring isn't the best quality and generally requires filler for knots and cracks.

You say people need to learn how to “disagree with someone politely” yet you have just claimed someone has “destroyed” their own floor in their own home with their own skilled art work, on a public forum. When you use words like awful & stupid to describe a work of art, you might invite strong responses. This isn’t meant to be a rug. This is an abstract, sculptural artwork that cleverly evokes / plays on the design of a rug. If you don’t like sculpture, that’s fine; you don’t have to do it.

Yeah under this logic, Michelangelo really should have left those marble stones in their natural form. 🙄

This is an art installation, created by Selva Aparicio as part of her art thesis. She carved it into discarded wood flooring. So it's not a permanent part of anyone's house or building.

it's not a floor, you can see that it's on a white sheet, looks more like an art piece, Plus if it is Someone's house {it's not} It belongs to that person, itsTHERE'S, who cares what YOU THINK?

That, but also difficult to clean. This floor is not meant to be used again I think. table might wobble, can't move your chair on it. And terrible to dance on. I'd rather have it as a wooden wall carpet.

If people want to do this to their own floors, it's THEIR floor. Who cares about resale value if all you want to do is live in a space you enjoy.

I agree AND disagree with you. I agree that you are destroying the hardwood floors. And, getting dirt out would be a B*TCH!! However, what if you cover the floor in an epoxy resin? Because, the artistry that went into making that is MIND BLOWING!! With an epoxy coating, the floor would be smooth and MUCH easier to get and stay clean. All while keeping the artwork out on full display. Even with all this, you HAVE TO agree, this piece is STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL!!!! Also, just found out. This was done on a utility grade floor. At the owners behest.

They should have filled it with epoxy.

Get the floor comment - although not the concern - anyone who even attempted this would understand all concerns and surely doing it for reasons / in setting it makes sense - as well as being super talented at wood craft. For me it’s inspiration to revamp an old furniture piece - but sadly lacking the talent

You are correct from a practical point of view. I agree. I would not want this in my living room on the floor. It is too fragile to walk on it. But as an art piece…. Maybe on the wall? Behind glass even maybe? I would love it

Not to mention, they didn’t even make the edges looked brushed. You know what a pia it is having to do that as a house cleaner.

So this would work well as an art installation, just not on a real floor.

I agree with you. It looks like a worn out, dirty rug too. And what if you change your decor? Carve another bit of the floor? At least with decor you haven’t permanently carved into the flood, you can replace them when they’re old and worn or when you want a change.
