I think most of us can wholeheartedly agree that cats not only can make for loving and cute pets, but they’re also incredibly complex and hard-to-understand creatures at times. In an attempt to understand their behavior and share the funny realities of owning one, Russian artist Lingvistov creates hilarious webcomics that perfectly sum up what it’s really like to own a cat. Because one thing is for sure, when you have a cat, there’s not a dull day in your life (besides the times when your cats are sleeping, that is).

Lingvistov’s works have been featured on Bored Panda quite a few times already and if you’d like to see more of these comics that you might’ve missed, you can find them by clicking here, here, here, here, and here!

And in case you want something a little bit extra, Lingvistov has also been working on a cats calendar for the year 2022 because let's be real, cat people need a daily dose of catness just to keep them going!

Given all of that, we believe that most cat owners will be able to relate to a lot of these situations, therefore we invite all cat lovers to scroll down below!

My Nikki does that all the time and it always cracks me up, it's awesome!

First, we asked the artist if they had any major influences in their life that might've helped them to develop and refine their style.

"I have always been a fan of French illustrators. The major influence for me is Jean-Jacques Sempé. The first time I realized the power of illustration was when I discovered his books while traveling around France. I have never been very good with words (despite majoring in English linguistics), so when I saw how he could tell a story with no words but drawings only, it was eye-opening!"

Art, in any kind of form, takes a lot of time not only to practice but also to produce, therefore we asked Lingvistov how long it takes them to fully finish their comics.

"It really depends. The execution is easy. The hardest part is coming up with the idea and putting it together in my head. Sometimes they come unexpectedly during the day (I always keep notes on my phone), sometimes I sit there thinking about the drawing in my head for a long time."

Being an artist is not easy, one can easily encounter a lack of inspiration, burnout, etc, so we wanted to ask the artist about their ideas for the comics.

"They all come from my personal life and lives of my friends. Mostly these are situations during the day that are an inspiration. Sometimes I see my friends and ask them to tell me stories about their cats. Surprisingly the best time to come up with ideas is right before sleep. I lie thinking about my day and my cats and images come to my mind."

As we mentioned before, sometimes creative work can cause quite a burnout, therefore we asked the artist how they dealt with that as well.

"I do, it is very normal in any line of work. I am a very organized and hard-working person but there are days when I can't draw. When it happens, I try to be kinder to myself and not push myself. I remember John Fowles, who recommended going out for a walk and looking for inspiration outside in nature—it is the ultimate muse."

We also asked them about how people reacted to their work.

"The best and most common reaction is the feeling that I somehow have a little camera in their homes and draw their lives! If people see themselves in my work, it's the best compliment ever."

Even if you just washed your hands, too! Cats love their own aroma more than any other smell.

Unhand me, you filthy human! I now must lick myself clean with the same tongue I licked my butt hole after I pooped.

We had a cat who was obsessed with cleaning herself that my daughter pisses her off by poking the cleaned areas.

My Mitzi will start a power wash even if I look at her sometimes, not to mention if I actually talk to (or about) her!

The creative process is not easy, but there are many enjoyable parts to it.

"The most enjoyable part is seeing your ideas come to life. It's like completing a unique puzzle. When you finish it and see the result, you get this incredible feeling of satisfaction!"

We also asked about the inspiration behind the artist's Instagram account.

"Initially we were a school of English and I was making my drawings to stand out among other schools. Eventually, people kinda forced us to launch a store with our merch and I reinvented our business and focused on drawings only, Instagram is a part of it. The best outcome, really. I always say that my followers are the only people responsible for me being a full-time artist."

Make sure your human is not late by meowing at least two hours before they need to be up. Refilling the food dish will buy your human a one-hour "snooze" but after that they must be woken up for pets and scritches. Failure to do so will result in bed-zoomies and feets-attacking.

Digital art and art, in general, is not easy and requires a lot of patience, time, resources, and in most cases even money, therefore we wanted to know how the talented comic artist started their own career in digital art.

"I have been drawing since I was little. But I never went to an art school. Actually, there's a funny (and sad) story: after graduating from a linguistic university, I applied to an art academy in Saint Petersburg and an art professor there told me that I would never be an artist. Before becoming a digital artist, I worked with oil, watercolor, and pencil. I have been drawing comics since being in school—little sketches about my friends and teachers. These were widely popular!"

Our cat has a fountain with fresh water available 24/7. She prefers to drink from the bucket on our balcony, which I use for catching rainwater.

Tortie on antique stained wood. She's like a magic disappearing kill-you-when-you-step hazard.
