If you haven’t been able to keep up with the Depp v. Heard trial, let me catch you up to speed. Johnny Depp is suing his ex-wife Amber Heard for $50 million after she wrote an op-ed piece in the Washington Post in 2018, implying he abused her. The trial has now been going on for over six weeks, and over 100 hours of testimonies have been heard. But let’s go back to the beginning of the couple’s relationship timeline to understand how they got to this point.
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard met in 2009 on the set of The Rum Diary, and began dating in 2014. Later that same year, the pair got engaged and was married by February 2015. Unfortunately, however, newlywed bliss was short-lived for the pair. After only 15 months of marriage, Heard filed for divorce and even obtained a restraining order against Depp, claiming that he had abused her.

He was only accused by ONE woman! A bitter ex-wife. No other woman came forward. How did JOHNNY ever end up being cancelled when other men have been accused by MULTIPLE women & are still living their lives?
Depp has denied these accusations since 2016, and a $7 million divorce settlement was reached in court between the couple. Heard pledged to donate her funds from the settlement to two charities, the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and the ACLU. She released a statement saying, "As described in the restraining order and divorce settlement, money played no role for me personally and never has, except to the extent that I could donate it to charity and, in doing so, hopefully help those less able to defend themselves.” She went on to say, “This is over and above any funds that I have given away in the past and will continue to give away in the future."

So not just 'not true' but turns out that he was caring and helpful into the bargain. I remember a case in my home country where accusations were made against a man and when the 'witnesses' came forward it turned out much as this case, it wasn't true at all - but it still ruined his reputation..

I honestly think she didn't think this would happen. That Johnny would actually take her to court after the U.K. trial loss..And then she just assumed everyone would believe her. And in the U.K. trial when she did deposition I think that's it, you could tell she was on something. My bet coke. She couldn't quit fidgeting and the way she was talking
After the divorce, the couple released a joint statement saying, “Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love. Neither party has made false accusations for financial gain. There was never any intent of physical or emotional harm." Depp presumably thought the whole affair was ending and that they could finally move on with their lives. Unfortunately, the battle between the two of them was far from over. Cut to 2018. Heard releases an op-ed piece for The Washington Post portraying herself as a victim of domestic abuse. She never mentioned Johnny Depp by name in the piece, but he was clearly implied as the perpetrator.

The op-ed piece was really the catalyst for the seemingly never-ending legal battles between the two. In 2019, Depp sued Heard for $50 million for defamation, after her claims in the op-ed piece began costing Depp acting jobs. In response to that, Heard counter-sued for $100 million. In 2020, Johnny Depp also sued the publisher of The Sun for libel, as they published an article in 2018 claiming he had been violent towards Heard. Depp continued to deny these claims, despite Heard testifying that he threatened her life “many times”. The London court denied Depp an appeal at the time, deeming The Sun’s claims about him to be “substantially true”.

As far as the former couple’s 2022 legal battles, the ongoing defamation case began in Virginia on April 12th. The entire trial has been widely publicized and incredibly painful to watch. In their opening statements, Heard’s legal team said that Depp would “try to turn this case into a soap opera”, but the reality of the case is much heavier. Any trial dealing with claims of domestic violence and assault is never easy to watch unfold, but it must be even harder to be a part of when the entire world is watching the courtroom’s every move.

My dad was a victim of domestic abuse from my mother during their entire marriage… emotional, mental, and physical (she would hit him and sometimes even slice him with a knife.) This was in the 80s-90s, when men were NEVER the “victim”. I had to watch my father get broken and beaten by my mother regularly. I hope this case is a step towards realizing that abusers are not restricted to any one gender, etc and that nothing justifies hitting another person.

My son went through the same thing…not believed that he was abused by his girlfriend. Even when I had to rush him to the ER because she stopped him just missing his lung. The courts gave her unconditional discharge and no parole. My son was basically told to go home and suck it up

Over two years ago, I was harassed and stalked (as defined by law) by a woman. When I filed police reports, was told by the DA that it was a civil case, and they refuse to charge her with any crimes. This woman repeatedly called my children's schools, came onto my property (trespassing) [cops gave her a ride into town, but no arrest], sent over 1,000 emails in under 3 months, threatened to harm me (recorded on voicemail and through emails), and called child services on me over 8 times in a year. -- She was pissed because, as the mother of my oldest child (I have sole custody) she was required to pay child support, and has yet to make ONE payment in several years. And, yet, the DA does nothing, the police refuse to arrest her (saying it is civil after her committing several felonies). Why, because I am a MAN and that can NEVER happen to men!

Johnny Depp’s testimonies have included incredibly painful moments from his past including his childhood growing up with an abusive mother, his past struggles with substance abuse and his turbulent former relationship with Heard. While he admits that the couple had their fair share of arguments, he maintains that he was not abusive towards her. "Never did I myself reach the point of striking Ms. Heard in any way nor have I ever struck any woman in my life." In fact, it appears that Heard knew Depp was actually a victim, rather than an abuser. Jessica Meyers, Depp’s attorney, asked him what his response was in an audio clip that had been played for the court where Heard said to him, “Tell the world, Johnny. Tell them, Johnny Depp, I, Johnny Depp, a man, I'm a victim, too, of domestic violence.” Depp responded, “I said, ‘Yes, I am’.”

So, for those who don't know, there are four elements to defamation and all must be proven. (1) That the person made a false statement claiming it to be factual. (2) That the statement was made knowing it was false or with reckless disregard for the truth. (3) That the statement was published. (4) That the publication caused the other person harm. Johnny has proven all four elements in his case; Amber hasn't proven a single one.

The British model Kate Moss testified on behalf of Johnny Depp, denying claims that he had pushed her down a flight of stairs while they were dating. Heard had brought up the rumor at one point, claiming she was fearful he might do the same to her sister while they were arguing. Moss cleared up the situation, saying she one time fell down the stairs while following Depp out of a room. “As I left the room, I slid down the stairs and I hurt my back," she said. "And I screamed because I didn't know what had happened to me and I was in pain. [Depp] came running back to help me and carried me to my room and got me medical attention."

I liked your comment and agree, but it can also be the case that: it's not such a big effort, because he just can't stand her. He gave up trying to reason with her. He's very hurt and angry and disgusted by her, by her actions/words/values... he'd rather avoid her completely, and not have her in his life at all for his own sanity. This was my case, when my narcissist ex would have his worst episodes. I couldn't look into his eyes, and avoided him completely. To look into someone's eyes is a privilege. It's to engage. It's intimate, and signals interest and openness to interact. He wants nothing from her.

The funny thing is that if someone on a thread about transgenderism failed to accept the relatively recent distinction (first proposed in 1968 following discussion in 1955), they'd be suspended, too. I'm actually not convinced they're not friends. I think they said this in order to bolster their case to say that "look ambers old friends, that she doesn't even talk to anymore are even coming forward to defend her. They have no skin in the game & no reason to do so since they're not friends" because that's literally all they have... I think all of those toxic liars are still friends. & they're all banking on her winning to get their final "payout" from the most generous man they've ever known. As if they didn't use him enough as is.

What the hell? When we stand with Johnny Depp it’s not that we don’t stand with women. So many women get abused, a lot more than men, but that doesn’t mean that men don’t get abused too. I’m a girl too and honestly it’s really sickening that women get abused so much but we can’t just decide that men don’t get abused. They do! Amber Heard is clearly at fault here.

All the times that she was on the stand fake-crying, we never saw Johnny laugh at her misery. She's proven to be pro-tier manipulator, a pathological liar, and to lack any level self-awareness. Johnny presents as pretty genuine, and his positive reactions all show vindication for the things nobody believed before all this. I think anyone with eyes could call this case. I'm not worried about what the jury will say.

I'm a domestic violence survivor. I had to beg my husband to accept a plea deal because even though a good amount of time had passed I was still too traumatized to begin to think about testifying in a long drawn out trial. I would have been a wreck. Luckily he took it. It meant he got off easier than he should have but it was worth it for my own mental and emotional sake. Amber is not a victim. She is the abuser.

I'm not defending AH, because I think she is abusive and a liar, but for the sake of future victims, I think it's important to recognize that people experiencing grief and trauma often don't behave the way you think they would or should. That fallacy has contributed to a lot of victim blaming.

I once got hit just below my knee while sparring in a Taekwondo class. Not only did it change color, but it swelled up. A LOT. I had to sleep differently for at least a week after that, and putting on/taking off certain items of clothing was particularly painful.

there are only two reasons heard gave rambling answers: 1. her legal team did not properly prep her in that she is to give direct answers to questions without editorializing or embellishing as that is where witnesses screw up; or,2. they did tell her but she is such a loose cannon that she thinks it better for her to avoid a yes or no but go into a monologue. she was her own worse enemy.

I saw a lot of people on Twitter saying they don't know why everyone is watching this, it's just rich people and celebrities to distract us. I agree, there is a lot going on in the world right now and my heart does go out to the victims of the shooting in Texas but you have to understand the gravity of this case. You have to understand what it means for all victims of domestic violence. Those who want to be heard, those who have been falsely accused. The legal precedent that would be set at the end. It is actually quite important also.

this trial is about more than just two celebrities fighting about reputation and/or money. it is finally giving validity to men who have traditionally either not reported abuse or were not believed when they did report. very similar to what happens when a man reports that he was raped, though that has other implications that they worry about. it also shows how a person can try to fake being a victim can back fire which i hope that those who would consider doing such a thing will take note that expert/professionals can see through that charade.

I think AH is abusive and that she is a liar. Furthermore, I believe charging her with assault and perjury would be appropriate. Having said that, it's frustrating to me that people are being so vitriolic toward her, calling her names like "Amber Turd", and threatening her. This is inappropriate and unacceptable. Why bring yourselves down to her level? This is what Trump did during his campaign and presidency, fostering an attitude of fear, hate, and tribalism rather than addressing the issues. We have to do better than that.

Since Johnny got together with this woman, I thought she was trouble... but who I was to judge by reading the yellow press and thinking heaven entered his mid-life crisis... But what I see now is so utterly ugly - and only on the side of AH! I SO MUCH DISTASTE HER AND WHAT A NUT-JOB SHE DID FOR ALL WOMEN (AND VICITIMS) WHO REALLY SUFFER ABUSE! And on top of this she claimes she is borderline, bipolar or whatever. Using a serious mental disorder as an excuse to get away with what she's done!!! Not realizing what a throwback her behavior is for all the common people who have to live with this disorder and try to establish themselves in society while permanently fighting the prejudices on a daily basis AH just had used as an excuse! She's like the evil step-mother in those fairy tales when it comes to this! I hope Johnny's repulsion will be established and that AH will dissappear in the same dark hole she's emerged from.

I'm not stating my opinion on this case one way or another but I just can't stand the amount of people passing judgement or making comments on how victims of abuse are "supposed to behave". Again, this is nothing to do with who I think is guilty in this case but to say someone isn't showing the 'usual signs' or isn't 'acting right' for a victim is dead wrong. We don't all turn into timid, perturbed, shadows of our former selves - it's not one size fits all. If you're not a professional and you haven't worked one-to-one with the person, keep your unfounded opinions to yourself.

I don't know if anyone wondered about this before... but isn't it a little odd that someone like Heard knew everything Johnny was into before drawing him in and then just used him, getting parts, mooching off him? Maybe it's just me but I can't imagine her reading the things Johnny does or things he listens to, and then calls him a f a t, old man behind his back and acts like this. It feels like she hunted him down and made herself look attractive for him to pursue, because let's face it, he's a bit of a unique guy; it's hard to believe she just happens to like the same things. She's just into money and fame.
