I agree with 2 out of 3. The watch charges magnetically because a charging coil is a lot smaller/flatter than a type-C/lighting port. Keeps the watch nice and small. And it's convenient, if you ask me.

Android phones have used custom chargers, mini-usb, micro-usb, and USB-c charge cables. It's hard to blame only Apple for this.

Load More Replies... I have an additional cord as well. Its charges the very first ipod I purchased 20 years ago. I also have the 17 year old iPod photo. They both still work to this day and I've never had to take them to have anything fixed.

Apple has turned into a behemoth monster. When I got on the bandwagon in 1992 it was set it up your way, have it your way, what ever YOU need. Now I have 75 languages, and fonts for them, in my computer and I speak one. There is a ton of stuff on my computer that I will never use ( like drivers for every printer in existence.) If I try to delete any of it I get an error message: The system needs that. I wish I COULD go somewhere else...but the fortune has already been spent ....
I have had to run PCs and Macs AND Unix workstations and they all do something different so you can't say one is better than the other UNLESS you are specific about what you are using them for. It's like saying one child is better than the other.

The EU wants to implement the USB-C-Standard for all devices. Including apple. Starting 2023 I think. Then everything shall use only this standard to lessen electro trash.
Nope apple is threatening to use only wireless charging, no port of any kind, that is wildly inefficient compared to cable charging. Even the data transfer would be by wireless besides that wireless charging is not standardized, so apple makes thei devices only charge with a apple charger.

I betting it's Apple! Well, that's probably about to come to an end. The European Union just passed a law requiring all tech companies to use the same universal USB-C chargers for their products. Needless to say, Apple is going ape s**t, and they're suing, but they'll lose that fight. They won't want to lose all the business they have in Europe over chargers. Way to go Europe!!

Going back into the history of Apple, I kind of see why they did it at that time, but it's over now, so get with the program. We're living in a digital age and all stuff should be compatible.
