At the same time, researching and double-checking absolutely every tiny tidbit of information can be incredibly time intensive. So you need to leave that for the fringe cases where your alarm bells are really ringing. In the meantime, try to evaluate the credibility of the source that’s publishing the information.
How trustworthy is the account, outlet, or reporter? How do they ensure the reliability of the information that they share? What does their track record look like?

The fact of the matter is that there are no perfectly reliable sources; however, this doesn’t mean that all sources are equal. Though everyone makes mistakes, professional outlets make fewer of them, make corrections, and acknowledge if they’ve accidentally misled their readers.
So it’s always best to opt for reliable sources like Reuters, Associated Press, or The New York Times that employ fact-checkers and editors. These are always better choices than random, extremely biased, clickbaity websites that only care about getting views at any cost.

There are some signs that indicate that some facts or claims might be fake. Some of the red flags that you should look out for include things like the information being incredibly outlandish or unheard of before, or the facts coming from a source that’s either disreputable or completely unknown.

You should also listen to your gut: if something sounds too good or too awful to be true, it might just be. Look for some other sources that might back up the claim before you repost it: it’s very easy for misinformation to spread in this day and age because there are more and more internet and social media users. Even doing some minimal Googling is better than blindly accepting everything as fact.
Meanwhile, keep in mind that as our attention spans are shortening, content creators and news outlets are having to adapt to the changing needs of their audiences. People prefer short-form content these days because that’s what they’ve been consuming. It’s all a bit circular.

So you end up having to condense a ton of information into bite-sized posts, meaning some context gets left out. At the same time, long-form content and in-depth analyses still have a place in the world for those who want to learn things in a nuanced way, instead of having a very black-and-white perspective on life. Long-form content also has the added bonus—it can help restore our attention spans and ability to focus.

There's a photo out there of a bear ripping into a tent. The photographer inside took a photo right before the bear killed him. It is the most terrifying photo I've ever seen. This may be #2.

I met this guy! It was actually a grain elevator that cut his arms off (according to him). He waited for the ambulance in the bathtub so he wouldn’t bleed on his mom’s carpet.

There are homeless people who will just commit a mundane crime to be fed and have a place to sleep. Saw one lady one night just flip off police as she was crossing the street. They immediately turned their lights on and arrest her. It's just that simple, I guess. Can you blame them, though? Shelters don't always have space to provide a bed, have early curfews and I've heard some require a small fee that not every person in need is able to pay. They get kicked out of bus shelters, the skywalks are locked by 11-12pm, and not even one cafe is open past 9pm downtown, except for some Tim Hortons, but some of them have a 20 minute stay limit. We see a lot of them drinking, huffing during the day and by night a lot of ambulances and police are tending to them. Many have made "tent cities" just for the city to come and take them down.

I haven't been to a hospital in 9 years. I am still being charged for a small visit when I was sick, back in 2015.

Wow can not even wrap my head around this am Canadian! My wife moved to the states when she was a preteen. As soon as she turned she moved back home on her own leaving her twin behind. 14 years later her sister has had health problems and avoids treatment just because of $$$$$$$ !!!!!!! As well the know how to do stitches and set broken bones and by medications smuggled like ppl buy illegal drugs up here.Crazy

This is exactly why I support capital punishment, we the tax payers pay for prisoners to live, have a bed, 3 meals a day and health care. If someone commits a felony, death one bullet behind the ear. No dragging out the case, just done immediately. The prisons would empty out quickly and crime would drop!

At age 90 she sold her apartment for the right of occupancy and 2,500 francs a month. She outlived the purchaser by 2 years and received more than twice the value of her apt. She quit smoking at age 117, she stopped bicycling at age 100 after breaking her leg - she recovered and continued walking - she lived alone from age 88 until she was 110 and was forced into a nursing home because that winter the pipes froze in her apt (her hands became frost-bitten)

My wife and I were visiting Tokyo and a new friend offered to take us to a museum and show us a fun day. But he only owned a motorcycle. On the day, he picked us up in a car. He said he drove 4 hours one way to borrow it from his parents. I said, “ Oh, so they live outside Tokyo?” He said, “No, still in Tokyo.”

bp is not a real site, it's a psyops, i passed from plus 20 points to minus 40 yesterday and minus 550 today, based EXCLUSIVELY on few of the comments at this article, despite the fact I WAS UPVOTED for all the others. so either i suddenly became the earth's enemy and all satanists were awakened from their beds to downvote or someone in usaf cyberwings scrambled statistics in my particular case. after being accused of corruption, i feel free again. thanx to all that made this possible and said more about the human mound than they would have ever wanted, so much that they put themselves behind the line. and since they banned me and these are the last words of this account: i don't usually mix personal feelings with duty, but since there was so much hate directed to an evil purpose, i hope all that downvoted me would burn in hell - they were taking a stance, not just attacking randomly, maybe even voting for my killing.

In June 1985, On a flight from Trondheim to Oslo, a man highjacked a plane. The flight landed in Oslo, almost on time, and the hijacker allowed the passengers to leave but kept the crew on the plane. He then placed himself in one of the toilets, keeping a constant watch on his hostages, two pilots and three flight attendants. He kept drinking and demanded the attendants bring him more beer. About an hour after the passengers had left, airport police told him he couldn't have any more beer unless he gave up his pistol, which he did.
