I just returned from a vacation in Seoul. It's challenging to find trash bins. People carry a bag and take their trash home to dispose of it.

I know Japanese sports fans tidy up before leaving the stadium too. That area of the world is very concerned about keeping things clean and tidy. It's a nice change from dumbasses tossing rubbish out of car windows.

It’s probably the dream of most photographers to create work that is so powerful that it echoes around the globe.

Truly iconic photos that you can identify at a glance are the height of photography. They resonate with you on a deep level and offer you a glimpse into the very soul of humankind—or at least that’s the idea.

CNN points out that iconic images are so dramatic that they embed themselves in your culture. “They have come to define a historical event, a famous person—or maybe even an entire generation.” These photos can be something that makes you feel proud or horrifies you because of the tragedy captured in the frame.

“I think the most important common denominator is that they [iconic photos] strike us on a very deep emotional level, and the emotions are usually some of the deepest emotions that a human being can feel: heroism, fear, grief, joy,” Peter Howe, former director of photography at Life magazine and picture editor at The New York Times Magazine, told CNN about the universality of the emotions depicted in iconic images.

The world needs more billionaires like that. It’s amazing to think how much good they could do if they only wanted to. Any billionaire could immortalize their name and become a de facto saint if they give away their fortune to those in need. What’s more, any billionaire could still live comfortably even after having donated 99% of their fortune.

Partly, it's because they often came from those communities, but also it gives you hundreds, if not thousands, of sets of friendly eyes watching your back. Wild West outlaws often burned mortgages when they robbed banks and it meant they could get refuge at almost any farmstead they wanted. At the very least the farmer wouldn't rat them out even if they didn't shelter them.

cartels are not moral in anyway considering the harm they do, but considering this dogs alleged skill was so good they put a bounty on it, it was a move on their part to keep their integrity, what really p1sses me of though is the use of dogs in police units, it puts innocent dogs at risk when its the humans making the calls

My only question is how does the dirty soapy water affect the workings of the flush mechanism? The soap in the water after sitting static long enough will settle to the bottom of the tank. In time, that becomes a mess in itself. I'm not knocking the concept, just wondering about the details.

I wonder if it is motion-sensored to turn on the water? I don't see a handle on the tap. I don't think I'd want to use the flush handle to turn on the handwashing water.

“I think there are probably more pictures being taken now than there have ever been taken in time. You just walk around and you see people always taking pictures on their iPhone. There’s a massive visual imagery that is being generated by the public,” Howe pointed out.

On the positive side of things, changes in tech mean that you can instantly see the photo you’ve taken, and there are more opportunities to capture exact moments. But not everything is a win.

On the negative side of the scale, the volume of photographic content being produced now is almost deafening. To put it simply, there are so many photos being shared online that it makes it extremely difficult to find potentially iconic images of high quality.

“I think it’s much more difficult now for any particular image to rise to the surface, because we are so inundated with visual imagery nowadays. … You are getting the image so quickly, and it’s being followed up by so many more images afterward,” Howe told CNN.

How naturally natural she looks her clothing is an amazing work of art

International Center of Photography curator Carol Squiers adds: “Right now, it’s pretty hit or miss. It’s pretty haphazard and it’s very much focused on the personal. ‘Selfies,’ I’m sure, far outweigh any other pictures that anybody takes. But it’s a process. We’re all undergoing learning experiments with the digital, even though it’s been around for so long.”

According to Squiers, “It’s very easy to take a picture; it is not very easy to take a good picture. And it is even harder to take a picture that lasts through time.”

It saved more despite some saying it was pointless. Flu is airborne, so someone ill would have the virus contained behind the masks, not a precaution from catching it

If you can smell a fart through a mask you aren't getting good protection. Could smell bad breath too so I don't want to hear about masks protecting others. Viruses are smaller than bacteria, which is what those cheap masks are for.

German songwriter Reinhard Mey wrote a whole song in 1986 called "Nein, meine Söhne geb' ich nicht!" ("No, I Won't Give My Sons!"), including lines that roughly translate to "They won't march in line They won't hold out, they won't fight to the end, They won't freeze to death on a godforsaken field, While you sit on soft cushions. Protecting the children from all dangers It's my damned fatherly duty, And that also means protecting them from you! No, I won't give up my sons!" I can't help but speculate how badly that song would have been received 50 years earlier...

Almost every day, before she left, she bundled up the baby, put him in his stroller, and put him outside on the patio in the bright sun. She said the same thing--the fresh air and sun would keep him healthy, and also get him accustomed to the cold. He was a very healthy, plump baby with rosy red cheeks!!

It's sad that people are this lazy that they can't take their own garbage to a landfill or dump. At least to a central location outside of town. But then look at big cities like LA, NY and Chicago. Even with the services running, they're still a dump.

    Marie BellaDonna

And how exactly would you propose people "tend to their own rubbish", when there's literally nowhere to take said rubbish? Maybe some smaller towns/areas still have open air dumps. But most bigger cities have outlawed them, in favor of communal landfills where trash is buried with heavy machinery in lined pits, to try to cut down on chemicals and things leaching into the soil. You can't drive your own trash to a landfill. You can't even enter a landfill, unless you work there, for obvious safety and insurance reasons. So if your city's trash isn't being picked up, where would you take it? You can't take it to your neighbor's, because their trash isn't being picked up, either. You can't even take it to a dumpster at a fast food place or something, because theirs isn't being picked up either. No one's is. Neither is recycling. There's NOWHERE to take ANYTHING. And there's only so much you can compost-plus that's simply not an option for everyone. So it piles up. The garbage collectors knew this. They knew exactly how important they are. And they knew exactly what would happen if they went on strike. That's exactly why they did it. That's how you force a change. By showing the people in charge exactly how much they, and everyone else, really rely on you. And exactly how much they stand to lose, if they mistreat you. Besides, as someone else said, if everyone had taken their own trash, and cleaned up on their own (assuming they had a place to take said trash) the strike would've been in vain. It might have been gross in the short run. But it improved things in the long run. And that was exactly the goal.

They didn't say the baby was 14 months old. They said he'd been at sea 14 months. If he got his wife pregnant right before he left, and she was pregnant for 9 months, then the baby's 5 months old. It's plausible, at least.

There have been periods where they interacted with scientists, but the scientists then respected their wish to be left alone. Nowadays any interaction with the outside world has to be initiated by the North Sentinelese, on their terms. They know how to contact the boats that are in the area (Indian Navy provides an eyes on, hands off approach).

Actually, they did patent it. They just made it an open patent so anyone could use it for free. They felt it was such an important safety feature they didn't want to restrict it's adoption by other auto manufacturers.

The government wants to increase urbanization rate a lot and is planning for expansion of some existing cities so they started huge building projects in advance. Those places were mostly empty at first but several of those “ghost cities” are now fully functioning cities, having gradually been populated over time.

Or even gay. A lot of men back then married and had kids because it was the "proper" thing to do. Whether they were straight or not. It certainly wasn't NEARLY as acceptable to be openly queer back then. Especially for someone who hoped to become/was president. Which I think is sad. People should be able to be who they are, and be happy. Love is love, man. And I don't care who someone loves. I just care that they do their job properly. And treat others with basic human kindness.

    Hugo
    Community Member
1 month ago Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

Driving on the left is safer because most people are right-eyed, meaning the right eye 'locks on' to something and the left follows. So when you overtake on the right of another vehicle you spot anything coming toward you (or some other hazard) a split second sooner. Sweden changed because -- it was said -- most cars were imported from other countries and had the steering wheel on the left: that made street parking easier but overtaking decidedly hazardous. Not sure why the cars were left-hand drive: the UK has plenty made in Germany and elsewhere but with right-hand drive for the UK market.
