Today, you have your seat ready on a train to the past, with some of the most touching, beautiful and intriguing moments of history. Call it modern-day time travel, since these days, most of us barely have time to sit back, relax and dwell on the wonders of human history.

But thanks to this Instagram account titled A Slice Of History, which is basically a visual collection of selected historical ‘slices’, we have a whole lot to uncover. Think of Michelle and Barack Obama giggling on their wedding day in 1992, or Freddie Mercury lovingly hugging Mary Austin, and a couple of male lovers captured on camera in a photobooth in 1953; there’s something eternally beautiful about these moments.

Bored Panda also reached out to the creator behind this entertaining Instagram account to find out more about the idea behind it and what messages it spreads on social media. Scroll down for the interview below!

Thank you to these 3 men for their strength, endurance and spirit - they survived to tell their story, and we must *never* let it be forgotten (there are too many Holocaust deniers out there even at government levels, e.g. Hungary).

Well this one is a proper gut punch. I'm so beyond happy they made it and then were able to make and have wonderful lives but they should never have had to endure what they did (goes without saying I hope that no one in those hell holes on earth did). And we seem never to learn and history repeats. Free Ukraine x

To find out more about A Slice Of History, we reached out to the creator behind it named Sarah, a 22-year-old from Sydney. “I absolutely adore film, fashion and culture,” Sarah said, adding that she works as a production coordinator making TVCs (television commercials) and advertisements “with an incredible production team.” On top of that, Sarah is a full-time university student studying a Bachelor of Media and Communications, and a Bachelor of Arts, so it seems like no day is dull for the creator of A Slice Of History.

Nope, size 0 is an invention for the 1960's model, Twiggy. It has been in use since, although Nichole Miller is the first to mass produce the size for retail. Interestingly...the American size 0 is equal to the British size 4. https://wikipedikia.org/when-did-size-0-start-2/

I love her, and I adore this idea, but size 0 didn't exist in the fashion industry until 1966 when it was created specifically for Twiggy. It wasn't widely used in clothing for sale until some time after that. Unfortunately this quote didn't happen.

A Punk And A Kid | Brussels, Belgium, 2009. Photo By M. Lambrechts

The encounter took place at a Pride event in Brussels, where a curious kid asked if he could touch the punk’s jacket to see if the spikes were as sharp as they looked. The punker knelt down, amused by the kid’s reaction, and they engaged in conversation before returning to the parade.

That is sweet and doesn't surprise me. Punk rockers were never these mindless troublemakers who want to fight every person they see. Their fight is with greedy corporations, corrupt governments, oppressions of society and elitism, and they express their discontent through music, fashion and other creative forms. Most of the time, the people who dress punk rock just like the style. They're just people like everyone else. I could dive deeper into it, but I'll leave it at this overly simplified explanation.

This sounds really good. You could use an anodized aluminum or neobium for the spikes or you could tempur steel to the right colors and then clear coat it. It would be a heck of a lot of work but it would come out PHENOMENAL.

If I remember correctly, from when I visited the memorial, they were tied in pairs and only one got shot. The other would drown being sunken from the others weight. They did it that way to spare bullets.

When asked about the idea behind her Instagram page, Sarah said: “with our secular society so absorbed and engaged on social media, I thought this modern tool truly had the potential to share old stories, different cultures, spectacular fashion moments, the marvels of filmmaking, and, of course, history; the good and the bad, on a scale that I could never reach alone.”

But making your content stand out from others on social media is a challenge in itself. “It can definitely be challenging in the sense where in order to stand out, you need to think outside the box and really delve deep into research,” the Sydney-based creator said.

I hope they found each other, and were able to resume their friendship after that internment b******t was over (never should’ve happened in the first damn place, but we can’t—-and shouldn’t—-rewrite history, even if we finally have working time machines, because then we won’t learn from our mistakes). I love reunion stories of parted friends, relatives, and loves. They were ahead of their time in their friendship, I just hope it (and they) survived.

There are 2 million Russians trying to escape Russia because they don't support what's happening, yet out here, people still cannot make the difference between background and political affiliation.

I could be wrong but the military weren't allowed to give all their food to the prisoners, even though they were starving. If they ate too much too fast and richer and heartier food, they'd get severely sick, losing a portion of the fluid in their bodies to the point of death. I may be wrong about it, I saw it on an episode of band of brothers

Times were dangerous for men to show any form of affection or love towards one another. People in the 1950’s had their lives threatened, the possibly of injury, humiliation and to lose everything was a harsh reality. Women met the same fate. If not for these brave people, risking all, many people in today’s world would have a much tougher life. Enjoy those freedoms okay, love from Boomers.

No, he wasn't an experiment, the Smallpox vaccine in one form or another had been around since the late 1700's (Edward Jenner was the pioneering doctor) - I think this was just an illustration of why people need to be vaccinated (now, if only we can convince the modern day ignorants who deny that vaccines work - possibly show them this picture ?)

A Couple 48 Hours After They Met At Woodstock, And 50 Years, Two Sons And Five Grandchildren Later

A Couple 48 Hours After They Met At Woodstock, And 50 Years, Two Sons And Five Grandchildren Later

Judy had met Jerry on Aug. 15, 1969 which was day one of the iconic Woodstock music festival, when her car broke down on New York’s Tappan Zee Bridge, roughly 90 miles from the concert grounds, and she and the two acquaintances she was traveling with decided to hitchhike.

She revealed in an interview with PEOPLE, “I was just thinking, ‘Damn, now we can’t go,’ and we were dying to,” recalls Judy, 71. “Then Jerry and his friends pulled up. I stuck my head in and I saw that there was a woman in the car. I’d never hitchhiked before, but I figured, ‘Well, since there was a woman, it was fairly safe, and I probably should just get in the car.’ That first ride together in the back seat of Jerry’s pal’s 1967 VW Beetle eventually grew into 50 years of love and marriage, including two sons and five grandchildren.”

‘No One Is Born Racist’ Photograph By Todd Robertson. A Boy Dressed In A Kkk Robe And Hood, Curiously Touches The Shield Of A State Trooper During A Kkk Rally | Gainesville, Georgia, 1992

Trooper Allen Campbell had recalled, "I didn’t even see the kid. I was just looking down to see what was bumping on my shield. And when I looked down, there was this little kid in a Klan uniform. He saw his reflection in the riot shield. He was tracing his outline. The child was oblivious to what was going on around him”.

Marathon Officials Try To Stop Katherine Switzer From Competing In The All-Male Boston Marathon

Registering officially under 'K.V. Switzer', enabled her to enrol without detection of her gender. Switzer became the first woman to officially run the marathon, as she told Forbes ”I wasn’t trying to prove anything. I loved running and knew that for others who had run Boston, it was a great experience" Boston, 1967. Photographs by Paul Connell.

Headline is wrong. It wasn't "Marathon OfficialS", it was one marathon official: Jock Semple. (That's the bald guy in the dark jacket right behind her) The guy on the left is her coach, who's trying to shield her from the raging Semple. The man on the far right is Katherine's boyfriend, who, right after this moment, body-slammed Semple out of there.

He Man Who Cut Out His Own Appendix

He Man Who Cut Out His Own Appendix

Russian explorer Leonid Rogozov was in the middle of Antartica when he realised he had appendicitis and needed an appendectomy straight away. Being the only medic on sight and his appendix hours away from bursting and thus spreading a bacterial infection, he decided he would operate on himself. Rogozov instructed his team to sterilise his equipment and had them set up a mirror below his right hip. He injected local anaesthetic, and despite accidentally slicing his lower intestine, completed the surgery successfully and recovered within 2 weeks | 1961

The last photo show depicts Rogozov returning from his expedition healed and healthy

Nobody should be treating wild animals like this. He was extremely disrespectful with the animals, just a showman. A person who cared for the animals would photograph them from the distance but not stress them

In response to the common sentiment here that Irwin was cruel to animals by interacting with them in a way that likely bothered many of them, I just want to say 2 things. 1) I don't think his bothering of wild animals resulted in trauma for them and I don't believe he would have behaved the way he did if he thought he was causing trauma; and 2) what he built by becoming so famous led to a world-class facility that rescues, rehabilitates and releases thousands of wild animals a year in Australia. I appreciate the sentiment, and agree, that people should generally leave wild animals alone, but condemning this man for his tactics used to create interest in even the "ugly" animals really seems to fit the definition of allowing perfect to be the enemy of good. I am an animal lover, I feed the birds that live around me species-appropriate food, and I don't even partake in the enjoyment of watching them eat because most of them don't like to be watched. So I get it. But give Irwin a break.

Wild when you actually take the time to think about it. Grandpa was probably just enjoying playing with his grandson in the beach, little imagining he had a future two term President laughing on his shoulders. Too bad his grandparents and his mother died before he was elected. Considering all the s**t they would’ve gone through because Obama and his sister were mixed race, it would’ve been such a sweet moment—-a triumph over the haters. Too bad as well that there were haters like that in Congress during those 8 years, and eventually emerging from under their rocks nationwide because of the orange stain that was elected next (f**k no, absolutely not voted for by me).

I totally understand that notion and feel the same. But after starving for a long time it's really dangerous to eat "too much", especially sugary food, because it can lead to a refeeding syndrome Which is potentially lethal. So they have to start with a restricted caloric intake and slowly enhance it.

I had an RE teacher who would go down the corridors saying 'big up the human race'. He said that Jesus was a 'legend' (not a mythical one but like an awesome person). He also re-enacted the sermon on the mount, with one kid playing music, He also let me do knitting in class.

Makes me think of my Biology teacher. I remember so much thanks to her enthusiasm and unique teaching style. Everything was taught using as many senses as possible. 30 years later I still remember the process of photosynthesis as she gave us all the duty of using sunlight to synthesis nutrients, all acted out in a 5 minute play!

I've done it. Trust me, it's tough. I have huge respect for all the men and women that do it today. It's hard for those at home, too. But luckily the military community is a wonderful community. I know multiple times that I let family members of those deployed have a dinner at my place or crash at my place while a loved one was deployed. If you know someone with a deployed family member, all the small things help.

Chilling to think what would’ve happened if Eisenstein didn’t have a camera—-to record the moment for posterity—-and witnesses. Of course, ina few years even that wouldn’t have mattered.

I love that nobody ever mentions that there was already a famous English singer called Davy Jones (born two years earlier in 1945) who was the lead singer of the British group "The Monkees" who had their own TV show, and sang "Daydream Believer" and "I'm a Believer" (yes kids the song in Shrek) ...then I saw her face, now I'm a believer.... etc. David Bowie was born two years later in 1947 (also British) so would have had to change his performing name anyway through copyright rules. But I imagine he would have anyway. In some ways I think every adult should get to pick an extra name for themselves when they're older and know who they are... and I love that performance artists are brave enough to do so!

Wow. You can see the worry in the eyes of the lady on the left—-worry about the photos getting out and all the awful s**t they’ll both have to endure because they love each other—-until her girlfriend’s pure joy, warm affection, and deep love finally overcome her fears and make her crack the smallest of smiles. I can’t imagine the sheer debilitating fear and crushing stress of being found out, arrested, and publicly humiliated that these women, along with every LGBTQ person, faced every single day. I hope these two ladies had a long and happy life together, even if they had to pose as “roommates” to accomplish it.

It's so hard to believe this was ever a thing. If it weren't for the awful neon sign and knowing what they had to endure simply because their skin was a darker color, this would be a beautiful picture. Take a min to get to know someone even if they are from the other side of the world and you'll see we all aren't that different and there is common ground for everyone to love each other.

It really is a very “Madonna” type outfit, isn’t it? The necklaces (though she’s missing the crucifixes), OTT lace—-including the lace opera gloves that hook over one finger. It was 1986, after all.

    The 2800 Year-Old Kiss

    The 2800 Year-Old Kiss

These human remains were unearthed in 1972 at the Teppe Hasanlu archaeological site | Iran. The site had burned during a military attack and people from both fighting sides were killed in the fire, which has been proven to have spread quickly and unsuspectedly through the town. The skeletons were discovered in a plaster grain bin, as they were suspected to have been hiding from soldiers, and died from asphyxiation. The head wound visible on individual’s forehead (right) was a result of modern-day excavators.

Most sources believe it to be a male and female (female on the left, male on the right) but there are disputes from sources that believe both were male. Everyone agrees that the skeleton on the right is male.

Protestors Scream As The Hotel Owner Pours Acid Into The ‘Whites-Only’ Pool

In an attempt to protest the segregated regulations enforced by hotel owner James Brock, individuals began a demonstration by swimming despite the discriminatory ‘rules’ at the Monson Motor Lodge | St. Augustine. 18 June, 1964

J.T. Johnson and Al Lingo were two swimmers present that day who recalled “everybody was kind of caught off guard” after owner Brook began “loosing it”. J.T stated “I tried to calm the gang down. I knew that there was too much water for that acid to do anything”.

I'm sorry to do this, but it does really appear that he was a pedophile. I always feel badly for his victims who have to see him still largely receiving adulation. I gave him the benefit of the doubt throughout until finally watching the documentary Leaving Neverland. The young men who claimed they'd been abused by him for years as children were very credible. It has to be hard for them to see that apparently they weren't heard or believed by most of the world.

It's a theme park like Disney; called Thorpe Park. It's still there, you can Google it. It's rides are big roller coaster type rides, the water ones you are in enclosed boat type things or seats so you don't actually get wet; just splashed by the water, it's not very deep and the splashes are like, kind of the point of it. Hope that makes sense!

Guys.... it's not a water park / swimming park.... it's an outdoor theme park with roller coasters and smaller like, fairground type rides for kids. For this, it's a ride. You stand in a long queue, from a platform, you sit in the boat, it goes along tracks.... it has a small splash, it carries on the tracks and you get out on dry land. Like a log flume. Also yes, it's just outside of London, it's cold. Always. Except for maybe a couple weeks a year. It's definitely not swimsuits outside weather!

George W. Bush was interrupted at 9:07 during a school visit in Florida. With knowledge that a second plane had hit the World Trade Centre, and the US was under attack, he stayed in the classroom reading a book to the children for another 8 minutes.

He was waiting for more confirmation. This was before instant news and he didn't want to alert the press who were covering the school visit if it wasn't a genuine thing. I AM NOT in any way a Bush/republican supporter BUT context is important if we are to challenge fake news

Divorce court in 1948? Realistically, the reason for the split likely involved domestic abuse. It's not uncommon for abusers to excessively beg for forgiveness. I hope she stuck with the decision that was safest for her.

More likely adultery. You have to prove 'extreme cruelty' for domestic violence and that would basically mean having broken bones. Anything less you'd be unlikely to be able to prove. Adultery or abandonment were the only real ways women could be sure to be granted a divorce (I think conviction of a felony in some states but I'm not sure it was all of them). I suspect she has evidence of adultery and I'm not convinced he necessarily wants the wife back so much as he's scared of what its going to do to his bank balance.

Masks Worn By Soldiers Whose Faces Were Mutilated By War

The top row reveals the brave soldiers current facial constructs. Contrastingly, the bottom row is comprised of masks showing their faces before enduring injury. These masks were effectively designed based off their pre-war photographs by American sculptor Anna Coleman // 1918

The Man Who Claimed To Be 137 Years-Old, John Smith, Despite Unclear Evidence Regarding The Year He Was Born

According to the Chippewa people, and eyewitness accounts he passed away due to pneumonia at the age of 137, placing his birth year at 1785. He married 8 times, and had an adopted son who also maintains that his father’s age was indeed, 137. Many have found conflicting evidence that identifies him to have been 95-100, yet nothing sufficient to consolidate his actual age.

Well, he don't look 100. It was uncommon for Indigenous people to keep records of birth dates and death dates. You just have to go by what they say.

I was in a TB hospital near Wigan as a 3 year old (1957). We were in a ward where they opened one side of it and we were pushed out in our beds. My mum told me how cold it was standing next to the bed in winter.

And a lot of these women were actually spies. They willingly associated with the Nazis to get information & pass it on to the Resistance, knowing that they would be despised & treated horribly. Many of them never said a word for decades about the spying, even when this was done to them.

I always hate this pictures. Yes, maybe some were convinced nazis or people who wanted to gain power betraying their country. But most were just people trying to survive in a war that destroyed their country. How many women got raped by soldiers, pregnant and then misstreated by their peers and called collaborators?

1.5 Million Helium Balloons Released By Charity Organisation United Way Of Cleveland

1.5 Million Helium Balloons Released By Charity Organisation United Way Of Cleveland

The event was hosted in an attempt to generate publicity by breaking the world record while simultaneously creating an artistic statement in the process | Ohio, 1986. Photographs by Thom Sheridan
    .
However disaster closely followed the grand event. The balloons quickly collided with a cold-air front and heavy rain, which resulted in the helium-fuelled balloons falling back down to earth. Clogging water ways, causing car accidents, damages to pastures, and problems for airports derived soon after. With exceeding damages numerous lawsuits were filed against the charity.

Our helium supply is finite; we will run out in less than 30 years unless we can stop wasting it for fun or find a way to harvest it from space. Or a way to make uranium decay faster.

As long as you can detect that the tornado is moving to the left or to the right, it's absolutely fine. If you cannot detect left/right movement, for the sake of safety you must assume it is moving toward you, and you should move out of the way.

I've heard of this. I'm going to play devil's advocate, despite how much I hate this war, and ponder if some companies are playing it neutral, and that there may be other things going on behind the scenes the public doesn't know about between Russia and companies. Just a thought. Because it's not really about Russian people against Ukrainians. It's about Putin's fragile ego and lack of anger management. The Russian people, most of them, don't want this war. Why deprive them of big macs and salty, salty fries? They go through enough oppression and deal with enough anti-western propaganda. Come to think of it, it's wise of McDs, because if they pull out of Russia that might make it easier for Russia to go back to Soviet times. Just a thought, though.

AND! After 20 years, mine has definitely been rubbed my socks enough to make it duller and blurry. I can't imagine this would survive well at all!

That's a waste of ink and unnecessary pain for a tattoo that's going to wear off very quickly. Your palms and the bottom of your foot are not made to hold ink.

I can't imagine how much this placement would both hurt and tickle.

Wow - hard to tell whose violence record is worse - the rapist or the phone-chucker.

Are you serious? I'd rather have a superficial head wound from a thrown phone than be raped
