It reads 'From Aunt Mandy on our 25th wedding anniversary Dec 1961', 'Cup given to Grandma Lange's mother on her 25th ann.'Soooo....I have a Great Aunt Mandy and my Grandma was a Lange. They used to have these at Restoration Hardware while I worked there. Always wanted one to goth out. Also had some weird chandelier lamps that were about 6 feet tall that Nikki Six bought.

I think it's called a Porter's Chair? The hood at the top was to give protection from cold and draughts
it was originally for door men in England to shelter in from cold breezes from guests coming in and out. The doormen were effectively door openers and bouncers for the more up market establishments.....
You can find very similar chairs, not antique tho, at Throne Direct. Very nice and inexpensive.

Those chairs often used for doormen or porters in upscale hotels. Gave them a place to sit, just inside the main doors to monitor comings and goings, and keep them out of the cold draft that came with such a location
Yes, there was a department store in Dayton, OH named Rikes. It was a mid-range store rather like Marshall-Fields or Belks, or Macy’s. I believe it was or became a Federated store but probably went out of business in the 1980s or so.

I Found A Gift I Made For Someone In A Thrift Store
It’s a big, squishy, crocheted blanket made with bernat blanket yarn. I made it in 2017 for a dear older friend that I knew from our coordinated 3x a week outpatient hospital infusions. I visited her when she was inpatient in hospital and gave her the blanket. She was so touched! She wasn’t getting a lot of visitors and I really felt for her. She passed christmas day, 2017. I’m not mad, just a bit sad thinking about it sitting there. It was stained and looked pretty well-loved... I’d like to think it was a comfort in her last days

In high school, I often sat next to a guy when we were placed in alphabetical order. We loved to tease each other - our puns were the stuff of legend. When I asked a friend what she wanted for Christmas and he says, "What about me??" I told him I was considering a paper clip. I was in Goodwill that weekend and lo and behold, I found this foot long brass paper clip!! 15 years later, I get a message from him - he works in an office and it's still on his desk! LOL
It never ceases to amaze me all the weird and wonderful things people find in a second hand store

So I'm part of a FB group about weird thrift store finds and the majority of these photos I've seen from that group long before this post was added to...🤔
Our best finds: (medieval gothic)Spanish chained candle sconce (mid-century revival) for $4 (US dollar) worth $150. Mid-century modern peacock for $ 0.25 worth $100. Mid-century modern ceiling light fixture in the neighbor's garbage pile (free), highest offer has been $400. We have no interest in selling.
The McDonald's chick with the orange hair.. I think she's on My Subscription Addiction.. She post review boxes for clothing ECT.
So many of them disappeared after I went to sleep. When I woke up, the list was shortened. What happened? They are such a good laugh 😕.
Yeah it sucks. I was happy to find my image here. Now it's gone. But it has nearly 30 000 likes on the facebook page for weird second hand finds ;)

My best yard-sale find this summer was a whole shoebox of top-shelf acrylic paints for $10. Best part is, it wasn't even on display, I just had a hunch and asked if they had any art supplies. They had belonged to the guy's dad, who was a landscape painter.
I only wish that I had still had the photo I took of a rampaging dime-store amusement ride horse. It was amazingly frightening to look at. I will always wonder what it did when you put the quarter in the slot to start the ride. (seen at United House Wrecking, Stamford, CT 2016).
